Polaris + Mug of Coffee = ? - Touch Cruise General

Mrs dropped my Orbit 2 into a cup of coffee...pulled it out quickly ..took out the battery etc...shook it for while ....let it dry out for the day...everything works fine ..surprisingly...buttons a bit clunky.
I thought the caffeine would have solved the video driver issue too !!! ...but no such luck.

if u put it next to it, it won't absorb any caffine

Keep us informed in this thread, m8. I don't want to scare you , but it
may getting worse in a few days due to oxidation and if there was sugar
in the coffee, maybe the HW keys could also stuck.

Will keep you posted if any anything extraordinary starts to happen to my caffeine drugged device!!
Thanks for the lawyer advice...because it was only half dipped..I will pass on it for now.

hehe ...
sorry but this post made me laugh.

maybe the device is caffeine compatible?

my son put his old nokia through the washing machine by accident - twice! And it still worked!

My mother washed her SE k750... and it died...

You're right...today my call button stopped working...cannot bring up the dialpad the normal way..have to goto start > phone.
Bit of a wasted cup of coffee ...lucky it wasn't a cup of Kopi Luwak!
But seriously, any solutions to this ?

Important
Question : was it with or without the screen protector ?
This little sheet is so nice rotfl ....

I spilt coffee on my kaiser today, battery out - leave it to dry... All appeared well until I discovered touch screen doesn't work.

Let it dry a bit longer, take out the stylus and keep shaking it (like a very quick vibrating motions) on to tissue paper...make sure as much coffee as possible has been shaken out. My call button has started working now.....

Great thanks, it's the touch screen's just come back. Ta.

Mainboard picture

Hello Folks,
I just took apart my Tornado last night in order to clean the joystick since I have been having issues with the "up" direction. The whole operation was successful but the cleanup didnt quite help me much with the issues. However, I took a picture of the mainboard since I havent seen any here and thought of uploading it for your viewing pleasure.
I might take it apart and make a step-by-step pictorial guide for it next weekend. Enjoy !
Excelent contribution, that kind of work is very appreciated for some users.

The joystick assembly was clean as ever. I cleaned the rubber housing and the joystick. No effect. I am thinking maybe the actual joystick mechanism on the keypad is damaged ?
I hope its ready for some beta testing soon anandoc
That is, when I reinstall XP. Dumped various ROMs, then windows update complains about wanting to rrestart, so I let it. Now my XP installation wont boot I've recovered the data though

About time you show up I hope uni is treating you alright and the drinking games continue
I did the same with mine...split it into many pieces to try to clean the stick, have not used the WD40 though, was a bit wary on spraying it all over the unit, put it all together again and some slight improvement.

I had problems with my joystick too to make sure its not the mechanism when you disassemble the phone connect your battery and try the joystick without the rubber or the joystick plastic.
I have completely removed the rubber and now its working very good.

Ah yes uni is great. Tho now its the summer term, meaning I'm not playing hockey 5 nights a week, and not doing as many drinking games as I can't afford it Either way it means I can get down to some real cooking.
On topic though... I recommend using a can of compressed air or something like that to blow out all the dust, wiggle it around a bit, then some more compressed air. Repeat as necessary.

Solution for Unresponsive Joysticks: WD-40

I'm guessing others have suffered from annoying, unresponsive joystick problems as much as I have. I read elsewhere online about using a drop of WD-40 lubricant on the joystick to solve the problem. I just wanted to let others here know that I tried this, and while at first it seemed like it didn't help or perhaps even made the problem worse, I've noticed that now my joystick responds *perfectly* - perhaps even better than when I first got it (I bought mine used).
I used these instructions to disassemble my SDA. I used the T6 Torx screwdriver included in this kit found at Dealextreme.com for US$2.65 with free international shipping.
Remove the plastic top from the joystick mechanism and let one drop of WD-40 soak into it. Move the joystick around (as if navigating on your phone) for about a minute to spread the WD-40 around.
Again, my experience was that at first it seemed to make it worse, but after the first day it got better and better. It's now gone one month without any problems.
Update: 8 months later and my joystick is still working perfectly, without any additional lubrication. I definitely recommend this process, though as usual with anything like this, attempt it at your own risk.
Hi,
KONTAKT working too
I didn't even take my spv c600 apart.
Just took the battery out.
Sprayed WD40 around the joystick and wiggled it about for a couple of mins ...
Then left it to dry.
Result = Perfect Joystick
Hey, my left softkey is not so responsive.
What could be the remedy? Mind showing the contacts between the keypad and the circuit board?
Thanks for the tip! I was hoping I wasn't going to have to take my phone apart though.
Cool, thank you! I had the same problem, and already bought and installed another keyboard - and got the joystick problem back after few months. Now I just sprayed WD40 around the joystick, wiggled it for a while, and it works like new! ) THANKS!
Just a warning: if you do this without disassembling the phone be very careful to only do ONE or TWO drops and sparingly. Although I thought I only did a couple, I now have a nice discolored "blob" going up through my lcd, not that it doesnt personalize it a bit, but not quite what I was going for
I just used to take a drop of alcohol on a little piece of paper tissue, with a toothpick carefully cleaning the base of the joystick around. This has always helped for 2-3 months.
Well, I always used deodorant spray when my joystick was not responsive (with phone closed, tilt the joystick both up & down and then spray, just a bit - no need to disassemble the phone). No problem, no stress.
I cleaned my joy in the same way. (disassembling cover + WD-40)
This is perfect way. I did that a 2-3 month ago and joy is still working perfectly.
I made the same with my old Motorola's and their joyisticks are working perfectly for about year now
Ps. WD-40 need some time to start working. Next day after cleaning everything should work very nice
Ps2. I don't recommend spraying WD-40 on non uncovered joystick. The best (and the safest) way is to spray only joy. I had to change microphone in my moto becouse of that ;P
thanks for sharing this. ill be doing it tonight!
white lithium grease in the spray can also works really well. Just take one small drop on a toothpick and pull joystick down and drop it in there. Its an easy alternative to having to take the phone apart. I did this last October and it still works great.
funny.. just seconds before i found this topic.. i put 2 drops of contactspray in the joystick. for so far it doesn't helps much..
so i am not the only one with these problems
sticky?
Mods: I'd like to suggest this thread be made a sticky.
WD-40 need some time to start working. Next day after cleaning everything should work very nice !
I dropped my phone on concrete floor from about 4 ft high and it bounce up and bounce. luckily it is still working with some problem with power switch and few loose casing (I glued it with super glue).
To fix the unresponsive joystick I tried to open following the instructions but the screw near the power switch is not able to remove, seems something broken inside after that drop, and I could not completely open it. So, tried to put few drops of spirit on the joystick but I actually pour some. After that I thought joystick is responsive more but later it remains same. Yesterday only I found out my keypad backlight is not glowing in the dark. I don't know when the problem started, after that drop, after that spirit, or after some setting change (I flashed Kamadaze's Pro RC7).
Sorry for long story.. but someone help me .. my joystick & key backlight.
Thanks in advance.
I will try doing with some organic solvent, but first I will have to wait for my joystick to malfunction (I always use nineway keypad to keep my joystick safe though )
What is the exact name and company of WD-40. Can any one tell me its composition coz i have many chemical lab retailers around in my neighbouring city

I would have thought a generic "maintenance spray" would do the trick.

How hot can the TP be before it will broken...

I forgot my TP on my modem and it become quite hot...
when i picked it it worked and everything is great but....
Is it really OK??? what is the max temp that it can get and now get broken?
is there any SELF TEST that i can run?

I ALWAYS test my new HTC devices by putting them in my owen, if it passes that test then you are good to go!
Seriously, I have not checked the manual but it should say something about max and min operating and store temperature!
If the display still looks good, then you are OK.
The internal electronics can take up to a specified 45C but will even handle 60C at a push.
The least temperature sensitive section is the LCD. Ever seen one die left out in the sun?
Rule of thumb is...If the LCD is OK or the case plastic hasn't melted then you are not the dumb Sh^t you thought you were for not taking care of your expensive electronics...
I learned in my Climate Control class (yeah, 3 weeks all about automotive a/c, lame) that the inside of your car can reach 155+ on a 95F day sitting in the sun. I'm sure HTC plans for situations like a phone being left in the car, as all GPS and radar detector manufacturers do. So unless you think it reached 160ish, I wouldn't be too concerned.
If you find yourself dialling for an ambulance with your charred appendages, then your phone is too hot. Unless you can dial for the ambulance using your TouchPro, in which case you can assume it's fine.
The maximum operating temperature of the device is 60 Celsius (140F).
Heat is generated by current flow, so the faster the battery drains (or charges), the hotter the device will get. In particular, the more data you transmit and the faster you transmit it, the more power you drain, and the more heat the phone will generate.

Yep, very nice Ski slope/village in the Emirates Mall in Dubai.
They are building one here in Abu Dhabi in the Marina Mall but its only about 1/8th the size. We expect a rash of broken noses as they hit the bottom wall.
people please stay ontopic!
I'm sure Dubai & Abu Dhabi are quite nice and the weather is nice and warm,
but this no longer has anything to do with the original post

Not everyone is dishonest you know! The OP clearly states that it was his own fault - why should the retailer and/or Asus pay for his mistakes?? Man, the level of dishonesty around here just amazes me!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Hairdryer. Just don't hold it too close, hardware dislikes intense heat.
Or as the_game_master says, submerge it in rice.
Or just leave it to dry in a warm, dry environment for a week or so.
the rest of the story
Thanks for the suggestions
At the risk of admitting what a total idiot i am........
It was nailpolish remover that sloshed on the keyboard so you can imagine what damage it wld do
That is what i get for multi-tasking!!!!
I have a new dock ordered........sigh.
(I am not usually stupid/careless with my stuff and have learned a lesson !!!!)
My Tf700 is not rooted or unlocked cuz otherwise i wld likely brick my tablet.........i am smart about some things , lol!!!
This is something I would do
I could see my self doing this as i love to cook and some times instead of getting a hard copy I just use my tablet for the recipe for what I am cooking so yeah maybe I shouldn't do that no offence but I don't want to end up having the same issue as you I cant afford a new one.
Actually, Acetone can be used to clean electronics. Provided you don't run electricity through it whilst wet, it shoudl be fine when you dry it.
Nail polish remover is probably the safest thing to spill over your keyboard. 'Safest' being relative, of course.

Yes , a word of advice to all you chefs........keep your keyboard away from your food prep area !!
(I own an old samsung netbook, with spill proof keyboard ....always thought that was a brilliant feature !!)
That stinks man. My keyboard dock survived a coke zero bath for several minutes (I still don't know how it happened) thanks to the rice-trick. I think since it's a diet soda it didn't do as much damage as it could have, but nonetheless, I'm just glad it's still working perfectly 6 months later.

Need urgent HELP plz.

Hi all...
Could you check one thing for me pls?
Put your OP6 on a hard surface like a study table(mine is made of wood) and charge it. Take off any case etc. Also without any shoes or slippers etc.
Then run your fingers along the sides i.e. along the metal frame while it's charging.
Do you feel like a hint of current/electricity on your fingers?
I feel like the minutest of minute vibration while running my fingers.
But only when it's on a hard surface.
When I hold it in my hands, I don't feel anything.
Please kindly do this test and tell me.
Thank you.

That happens with MacBook too! I mean thats electrical discharge / leakage. Thats pretty normal. You might get a minor shock if you lick the metallic contacts or if the same comes in contact with your sensitive areas like elbow, belly and below that
