My screen on my DUO bit it and I need to get some of the files off of the phone before I send it for repair. Is there any software that will let me access the file system on the phone to retrieve the files or am I SOL.
This has to be done without any use of the phone menu functions.
Any ideas?
Used ActiveSync
Connect the phone to your PC (any PC) and if you have not already set it to sync, you can hit cancel and connect it as a "guest". Then click on the explore button and you will have full access to everything stored on the device.

Hi folks
I'm waiting on a nice shiny new Samsung Omnia arriving from my mobile provider, but in the meantime I'm still using my old HTC Trinity handset... and have managed to break the screen on it. I'd love to recover my data, but ActiveSync hasn't managed to get my contacts into Outlook and I don't think it can get my SMS.
Any ideas on how I can recover my data, preferably in a way that I can then put it onto the new Omnia when it arrives?
Thanks in advance for help everyone!
Uso SOTI controller or whatever it's called to see the PPC screen on the PC screen. Navigate using PC mouse etc.

QFT. Use SOTI Pocket Controller (which you can download a trial for free from SOTI's website) and you can control your PPC on your PC's screen.
^^ What they said, but use MyMobiler (which is free forever ) from here.
Also you should be able to use ActiveSync/Explore to install DotFred's PPCPimBackup (here) - it's just an .EXE you need to copy somewhere on your Trinity, then run it (using the MyMobiler screen to guide you) and backup all your contacts and SMS messages (and calendar, tasks etc. if you wish) - if you have a lot of contacts/messages, make sure you un-tick the "use memory for temporary files" option.
The resultant backup file can then be copied back to your desktop PC and you can perform the reverse operation - with or without the help of MyMobiler - when your Omnia arrives.
Cheers,
Mark.
I am in the same situation.
I had an Eten device before and now have a Diamond.
The problem is that the screen is broken and most (all ?) of the controlling apps need a software PPC-side, and without screen it's quite hard to install.
As long as MyMobiler can establish an ActiveSync-type connection with the phone (i.e. if you've got the phone and PC connected via A/S) you'll be fine - MyMobiler will install the software on the phone itself....I don't even think it asks any questions.

Thanks, I'd not heard of MyMobiler but I just downloaded it and it connects to my phone quickly and automatically without even having to set it up in the first place. Nice one.
Hi. I accidently cracked the screen on my s740 and now i need to extract my sms from the phone. I have already installed my mobile, but the damn program doesent seem to work. I have win xp, but when the phone syncs to my computer, my mobile says: "Not connected" -> "Connecting" -> "Running on your mobile" -> "Not conneted".
It is slow as hell and doesent respond in windows, it doesnt seem to be able to connect to my phone.
So, here is the deal, my screen is busted, and i have a very important sms in my phone that i HAVE to extract from the phone.
So, can i copy some file from the phone, containing all the smses and then extract in windows on my computer? If not, how am i supposed to do? PIM Backup can only be run on the phone and my screen is cracked.
Please HELP!

Try this...right click on the my mobiler icon in your pc's taskbar, choose "configure mobile", then "install". Sometimes I've had to manually force that step to get it to allow connection.
EDIT: also, is it making a solid activesync connection to begin with?
Reviving an old thread
What happens if I can't make an activesync connection? I think at some point I disabled the auto-connect on the phone and now it may require my input to connect.
(Its an elfin with one of the latest onyx roms)
I am running WM 6.1 (Michyprima Full) and I wanted to flash to another ROM, however for some reason my phone will no longer connect to activesync on the desktop (tried two pcs). It can sync just fine via exchange.
Nothing has changed on the mobile device or the desktop; ActiveSync on the mobile device is set to allow connection via USB and activesync on the desktops is set to use USB to sync.
I know the underlying connection is ok because the device will start charging from the USB cable when it is hooked up.
What can I do to fix this situation so I can flash to a new ROM? I do not need to save anything on the device... I have tried soft-resetting.
EDIT: Also when I list USB connected devices on the desktop PC, I see one called "Windows Mobile-based Device"
did you use a ram cleaner
i used a ram cleaner and my device dosent get recognised by pc.let me know if you find a solution.

Have you tied going to Start/Settings/System (or Connections) and running USB to PC? Try unchecking 'Enable enhanced network' then OK back to the start screen and try reconnecting.
If that doesn't work, try a hard reset with the current ROM, and see if that fixes it. If so, you can then flash the new ROM.
If it still doesn't work, I think you can flash using a memory card or the Flash Drive without needing to access the PC.

Have you tried completely uninstalling ActiveSync from your computer, reboot, download and re-install ActiveSync. Its worked for me - sometimes the USB drivers become corrupt.
When I try and hit ok to commit the change of unchecking the advanced network functionality (it was checked before), the device just sits there with the spinning thinking wheel. Doing a soft reset and going back into the usb to pc shows the box still checked.
I will try a hard reset.

I think thats the only answer at present- the inability to change the A/S settings on the device suggest something's got corrupted somewhere
I was able to get it to sync after a hard reset.
However, when I attempted to load Michy's light ROM the device rebooted and sat at "Loading..." with a white screen. The wrapper then said error connection failed.
If I soft reset the device it comes back to the loading... screen; if I hard reset the device, it comes back to the loading screen after the hard reset. How can I fix this?
blast. left the stupid sd card in while i did the first flashing.
Removed SD card, re-hard resetted, then re-ran the ROM updater.
Sometimes its OK, sometimes it isn't- just one of those little mysteries I guess!
Glad its OK now. Michy's Lite ROM is excellent
Solution for deleted active sync notification called replog
YES...you guys definitely ERASED your Active sync NOTIFICATION file called replog. As someone suggested...he ran his CLEANER...then the problem begun.
It is true that Hard Reseting the device will get you back that file, but there is an easy way to do it...I can't find the original article but this file I will post will RE-CREATE that deleted replog notification file that is needed by active sync to work.
So next time you try and clean-up...just make sure you won't delete any file named replog
To use this FIX, just place it on your SD Card and run the file. If you want you can create an icon at Windows>Start Menu>Programs>to whatever folder... that will work too for easy access.
Just a word of caution...DON'T RUN THE FILE MORE THAN ONCE...why? Because it will re-create the file again. Although it won't hurt in any way except eat up internal memory, but you don't want any duplicated file... right?
I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 that now has a bad digitizer, and I am unable to use any touch-required functions. I only wish to retrieve the contacts from the phone in a way that I can get them on a new phone, even if it just means re-entering them into a new device. I just do not have any back up of the contacts, and need to be able to access the list on the phone.
I cannot "slide to unlock", so I am unable to navigate the phone or install anything on the phone. When I connect to my PC with an SD card it will connect in Mass Storage mode, and I can access the SD card only (not the phone system files). If I remove the SD card, and attempt to connect with ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center I am prompted to enter my screen lock code on the phone - which I cannot do because the digitizer is broken. I do know the lock code, if there is any way to enter it without using the touch screen.
I have been searching around quite a bit, and I found a program called MyMobiler that looks like it would work, if I could get past the lock code. I have also downloaded the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys, which also is unable to connect to the phone until I can enter the screen lock code.
Just to clarify, I have thoroughly read over this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852189#9434585
Is there ANY way that I can get access to the phone long enough to even just physically read and re-enter my contacts? Being able to import them would be nice, but I just don't have any backup whatsoever. Thanks for your help.
****UPDATE****
Solution: By pressing 911 on the keyboard, the phone assumed I was trying to make an emergency phone call and brought up the pin pad. I backspaced the 911, and typed in my unlock code. Now I am into the phone, and I can use the keyboard to navigate, and I can transfer the contacts to the computer. So glad I figured this out, and I didn't need to pay anyone to fix it for me. Good luck to anyone with the same problem.
Hi guys
Due to unforeseen consequences during a holiday, a beer bottle got dropped on my phone and it cracked the screen. Now I want to take a backup of my photos before I send for repairs and I will appreciate any help I can get! Here are the details:
Phone: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
Firmware: Stock Sony Kitkat, non rooted
Screen: Cracked, funny colours cannot see anything on the screen and touch does not work
USB Debugging Mode: Off
Wifi: On
Resources Available: OTG cable, AndroidLost is installed (its for finding your lost phone with a multitude of other useful features as well - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlost), MHL cable ordered online and on the way...
So firstly, I plugged in the phone to my laptop and could not open the Internal Storage as I had a pattern lock set up. But thankfully, using Androidlost I could unlock the phone remotely (it resets and disables the lock). Once it opened I could see that my internal storage was full (around 11 gigs) and I could browse all my files. I didn't have the time to transfer my files at the time so I thought I will do it later and switched everything off. This happened once more when I accessed it from another laptop but again got interrupted and decided to back it up later.
Now strangely, the third time I tried this (and on multiple laptops now), the Internal Storage is only showing 7.5gb of 11gb used, and when I open it most folders are missing and most files are missing from the folders which are present. It may be some weird issue of MTP or MSC mode or something, not sure.
I've ordered an MHL cable so I can plug in to my TV and see if the files are present if I browse through the phone. Its really weird though, wonder how the files disappeared if they have.
I also tried to access my phone through an Ubuntu machine but was not successful in mounting it.
And I also tried to put in an SD card and browse that through a laptop, and I could do that but the internal storage remained the same.
One path I was following - using Android Lost I can open any app on my phone remotely. I can install any app using Google Play store on a browser. I can figure out the LAN IP address through my router/netscan. Is there any app you think I can install to remotely make my phone an FTP server or something so I can browse my files that way? The only problem is I cannot click 'Start' or anything which most such apps require so once the app is launched everything else must be remote-doable.
Thanks for taking out the time to read this!

Very lengthy question.
So you want to make your phone an FTP server. I have a great solution for that
Install the legendary ES File Explorer from the Play Store
Select Remote Manager from the option, it will turn on WIFI hotspot and also give a FTP address. Just connect your PC with wifi and enter the addresss in any web browser you want
That's all
Hit thanks if helped

Hi Sushant,
thanks for reading the whole thing and for your suggestion.
I can install ES File Explorer. I can start the app remotely using Android Lost. Problem is, I cannot use my screen so I cannot go to the options and select remote manager.

i really really want to help OP but i cant think of the name of the app. its something like vlc, vhc, vcl, the point is. you can control the screen remotly over the same wifi network. i think if you could install the app remotly and install it on your computer, you would be able to unclock it remotly because you can see the screen on your computer.
if i remember the name i will post it for you. good luck OP!
Thank you Phurkus! I think you may be referring to VNC.
I found an app called 'VNC Server' that you can connect to using Real VNC on your computer. But after launching this app, it needs me to tap 'On' before it starts so again, no-go.
I'll search around for an app that uses VNC that doesn't require any set up on the android side besides just being installed and launched. Thanks again!
i have the a51 and when i connect it to the pc to get photos off the phone and paste them into a pc folder and open it in the file explorer i get small icons and i get the oldest photos first. when i connect my lg aristo and my oterh samsung that i do not recall teh models they open photos in file explorer with large icons and newest photos first.
so it kind of looks like i have to do some phone settings to make this happen. i tried win10 but they are telling me i need different apps etc. but my older phones do this so the a51 should do this as well. even the nokia does thes but with that phone i have to first copy all the photos into a folder first.
anyway is there a setting on the phone that tell the files to open large and new files first? the phone puts the date and a file number on the photos automatically.
also on a side note how do i stop the pc from giving me that warning triangle in the taskbar and if i click that it tells me the phone has been disconnected or stopped working. i have even use the safe to remove hardware to eject the phone and i still get that message and i do not get it for any other phones i would just unplug those old phones and be doen with it. this phone give me that message every time
