2.19 is the stable base with good signal and battery life. slow to connect.
all in the same category IMO 2.37, 2.69, 2.71.
i would try 2.71 and if you get ok battery life and no dropped calls, thats the best. it usually works very well. i've been coming back to 2.19 because of the battery life.

Best California T-mo Radio ROM?

Many of you may think the subject of this thread is strange, and I don't blame you. Why would anyone ask this? Well, I have tested a handful of radio ROMs with a handful of the WM6 ROMs and the only one that seemed not to have the missed calls/messages problem is 2.19.11. I know some folks have reported that the problem seems to only affect Cingular users of the newer radio ROMs, but I am on T-mo and I haven't found a good one yet. The curveball factor here is that about 3 years ago, T-mo bought Cingular's network in California, and I don't know if this means I am experiencing the "Cingular effect".
Anyone here on T-mo in California (I am in Orange County) with push e-mail working and a radio newer than 2.19.11 that isn't missing any calls/messages?
bumppity bump
yup, I agree. I'm in So. Cal too.
I'm located in San Diego and I'm experiencing missed calls and dropped signals with 2.40.11. Although this one seems to have a better signal than 2.19 but I still have missed calls but it is a lot better of letting me know that I have voicemails.

Yeah, I think we are all going to see the same problems the Cingular users complain about with the newer radios...2.40.11 was one of the more promising options, too.
I use the 2.40 im n the 909 no problems really

Leave it to a Marine to muck things up for me
I should have known people down at Pendleton would definitely have experience with this! Good to have you here. Anyone else want to be a tie breaker? I may have to test 2.40.11 again now that my battery issue is resolved.

I have been using the 2.40.11 with NTS vanilla and have noticed no problems thus far. It seems to acquire signal faster than the 2.19 I had been using previously. I was thinking of trying the 2.61 or 2.67 which have been reported as possibly being better, but very few reports on these so I'm reluctant to switch.
The signal with 2.40 *may* be a tad stronger for me than 2.19, but in reality it is very hard to quantify. To my knowledge, there is not evidence that the number of bars can be reliably compared since it is possible that different radios may assign various bars for the same signal. However others have reported more dramatic differences.
I am in the SF Bay area using t-mobile.
I am not a marine, although my dad was one in WWII.
====================
13/5/2007- Correction.... I have not absolutely positively seen missed calls with this 2.40 radio. I installed it in both my wife's and my MDA. She missed a bunch of calls from and also I missed some from her. Then I tried when we were together and established positively absolutely that some calls are missed. We use t-mobile in the SF Bay Area.
I don't know whether to go back to 2.19 or try 2.67. But this rom is No Good. Nice features or not, the primary purpose is to be a phone and if the phone does not receive calls it is no good.
Well. I live in the 562 area. i tested all the latest radio rom and it seem that 2.19 is still the best one out there no miss call, but the other rom get better signal tho.
i run radio 02.69.11 and so far it works great.. its fast connecting and got better reception then the 2.25 (it said it was 2.19 in the filename) i had before..
have it running for 2 days now.

Battery life?

I just got a unlocked tmobile MDA, install this lovely rom (kudos by the way... it's great!). I install the 2.25 radio and installed the cab to fix reception for cingular networks. I'm wondering what people with a similar setup are experiencing as far as battery life goes. It seems to me that mine is running down pretty fast. But i have nothing to compare to since as soon as i got the phone i made these changes. I mostly use it for e-mail/web browsing with some calls thrown in.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
yup
i installed this last week, i had the phone for a year before changing the ROM (originally cingular 8125). It seems to have good battery life except when i make phone calls, previously i could talk for many hours, but it seems i cant even get 40 min out of a full battery.
Which radio version do you have? I'm thinking that may be the culprit.
im fairly new to this, how do i tell?
When you turn on the phone it says it. next to GSM
Also, do you use cingular or tmobile?
tmobile.
gsm: 2.25.11
its whatever came with the xda mobile 6

For T-Mobile UK Kaiser users only. Which is the best performing radio?

Hi guys
I am currently running Q-Mobile v1.2 on my Vario III which I must say is working nicely. I bought my phone on Friday and have flashed my phone 4 times in as many hours!
I also upgraded the radio rom from the stock t-mobile to 1.27.12.32. It works ok now and then but then it suddenly drops coverage for minutes at a time.
Anyone has a radio rom that just works on T-Mobile UK flawlessly?

Please refer to this thread. You can also just flash to each radio yourself and see what works best for you.

I am about to do that now, was just trying to get a general consensus of what other T-mobile UK users are experiencing.

I've tested all radios whether in Orange or T-Mobile the best is the one you are using (1.27.12.32) subject to rom installed..
I've got similar results with 1.27.15.32 but battery drain much faster using this one...
I'm on T-Mobile UK myself and have experienced exactly the same problem with network coverage being frequently lost for several minutes. I'll try 1.27.12.32 myself to see if this improves matters. Thanks for the advice.

ROMS & Radios?

AT&T customer, midwest United States here. I live in a fringe area, but have always been able to get reception.... until I rooted and started running custom ROMS. It seems some ROMS, for whatever reason, get better radio reception than others.
I tried Viper, and while it was the best for reception, there were a lot of things that gave me trouble and I couldnt live with.
The CM ROMS wont even think about getting reception for me, unless the mobile data is turned on, and then are very erratic. I leave the data turned off when at home due to it always looking and searching and killing my battery. Well, that, and I always use wifi at home. I even tried the newer 3.18 AT&T radio, but it didnt help
Any suggestions as to a ROM that is known for reception? Or a specific AT&T Radio that is better for reception? While I knew different ROMS had different good/bad points... I didnt know the reception was on of those things.
Thanks

There sure is a big difference for some reason, with me anyway. The only 2 radios I have found in the Radio thread for AT&T without the RIL (senseless ROMS) is the 2.20 and 3.18 radios. I have bounced back and forth between them, and not seen any difference to speak of. The 3.18 seems to be the more erratic of the 2, for me anyway

My advice would be to try a different radio until you get one that works for you. I work out of state so I have to change settings to wcdma only to make them work in the area. I use the 3.18 radios on both CM and Sense because they work best in my home area. Viper is based on 3.17.661.2 so AT&T 2.20 may be the best option to try.
I use 2.41 seems 80% of the others I've tried plain suck in my area

When flashing radios for CM, also be sure that you are flashing the ones designated strictly for CM as the radio fw is kept in another partition than sense. I've never had an issue finding a radio that works for me. They don't all work well but at least 1 always does. When looking for the best radio, I download them all, test them one at a time, marking the signal strength and speedtest results for each and then flash back to the radio that gave me the best results.

Im getting the radios out of the radio thread here on XDA. I am d/l the radios in the lower section, for CM. I didnt try a different radio when using Viper, because it was useless seeing as I had so many other issues. I wasnt aware I could use Vodaphone or Telstra radios, on AT&T. I had only tried the 2 AT&T radios. My bad, I will try the others.thanks for the info guys. The speed tests are a moot point for me. As I said, i am in a fringe area. I cant judge anything based on data speed, and leave data turned off most of the time. Im not worried about data speed, or trying to fix anything in that area. Im trying to get my phone to get good enough reception to make/receive calls dependably and send/receive texts dependably. Sorry if there was some confusion over this.
Honestly, I would have stuck with Viper, but my wifi wouldnt work, and I couldnt even get my contacts and calendar imported from my Google account. In fact, there wasnt even a Sync option for contacts. So that was a no go.
Thanks again
The 2.41 he mentioned is not a ROM mate it's a radio.

Try 2.40 radio, I get the best reception down here in Texas with it, especially when I go to the lease.

Ok, I tried just about every radio in my CM ROM, to no avail. Then, on a whim, I ticked "2G Networks Only", and now I have decent phone signal/reception. This sucks though.... to have my data connection have such an affect on my voice signal. I had always left my data turned off when at home, due to being in a fringe area, and it always bouncing around and killing my battery. That, and I always use wifi at home. Now, I have to leave my data turned on, and in 2G mode... just to be able to make a call. Rather silly to me.
Thanks to everyone who offered to help... MUCH appreciated
P.S. when it was said and done, I think I wound up back on the stock radio for Cory's CM ROM (2.20?)

signal remains the same... around -87/13, but the Edge "E" icon, disappears from the screen. So, no real difference that I can tell.
It just amazes me that my data connection/type/settings can ruin my voice reception. Hopefully, its going to work decently now.
Good luck with it

thank you! so far, so good! As long as I leave the phone in 2G only, my signal is great. Well, great for my area anyway lol.
With VoLTE being so far out yet, and AT&T not having true 4G, and voice/data being on 2 different frequencies.... how in the world is this happening on this phone? How can enabling/disabling data/4G/2G have such an affect on the voice/text signal? I just cant wrap my mind around this

I'm no expert by any means but if I were to take a guess, I would say it may be due to limitations of towers that are closer to you? IE: closer towers provide 2G signal but have not been updated to support 4G? and the towers that support 4G are further from you?
Like I said, I'm no expert, I'm merely taking an educated guess based on what I do know about the technology.

Actually, I dont know either, but that does make sense. If the phone is in 4G mode, then ti will try to connect to a 4G tower, which could be further away. But, there were times I had a great signal with 4G enabled, but it was in H, or H+.... and wouldnt make a call.
Im just happy I found how to get a decent... steady signal. I love the HOX, and I love the CM ROM... but I was ready to pull my hair out with this lol.
Thanks for the input, I may ask someone at the local store next time Im in. There is one kid in there, that is pretty knowledgeable. I think the rest of them know less than I do lol
Well, I spoke too soon. Now I have good reception, but the quality of my connection SUCKS! I have flashed and tried every radio for CM, and while I have a good signal now (around -85/13) my call quality is terrible and are all fuzzy and fade in and out.
I dunno, Im thinking seriously about going back to stock. I love the idea of having control over my own phone, but Im not in this as a hobby. I just want things to work right. Every ROM I have tried has had one issue or another.... wifi connection issues, wifi going to sleep when it shoudlnt, bluetooth connection problems, a dozen apps starting by themselves, radio/reception issues. Its to the point its just not worth it to me. I dont like having to work on anything every day, and if I do, I feel something needs to change in the situation, if that is the case. Dont get me wrong, Im not slamming any developers, or their projects.
When I was younger, I was always the first to get one of the Celeron CPU's and OC the snot out of it. As I got older, I thought... why? Ill just spend and extra $20 and buy the faster CPU so it is more stable, and not have to mess with anything. Thats sort of how I feel now

Which radio do I use?

I have a question regarding the radio. In the Viper 4.2.2. sense 5 thread, it is mentioned that the best radio is 1.20.50.05.16_10.31.50.08L. I'm running CM11 (radio 1.15) and experience heavy battery draining when using 3G. Is this radio really the best and is it compatible with CM11? i'm living in belgium btw and have a provider which has relatively bad 3G coverage in not so densely populated areas (edge is 100% though).
Thanks!

The only solution for you is trying them all. I'm on a cm11 based rom and I feel very comfortable with the 1.20 one. Have a nice day.
