Which radio do I use? - HTC One S

I have a question regarding the radio. In the Viper 4.2.2. sense 5 thread, it is mentioned that the best radio is 1.20.50.05.16_10.31.50.08L. I'm running CM11 (radio 1.15) and experience heavy battery draining when using 3G. Is this radio really the best and is it compatible with CM11? i'm living in belgium btw and have a provider which has relatively bad 3G coverage in not so densely populated areas (edge is 100% though).
Thanks!

The only solution for you is trying them all. I'm on a cm11 based rom and I feel very comfortable with the 1.20 one. Have a nice day.

2.19 is the stable base with good signal and battery life. slow to connect.
all in the same category IMO 2.37, 2.69, 2.71.
i would try 2.71 and if you get ok battery life and no dropped calls, thats the best. it usually works very well. i've been coming back to 2.19 because of the battery life.

Question for WM6.5 users on Vodafone UK

Which radio version do you find gives you the best coverage. I am currently using 1.71.09.01 and I am finding that unless I am near a decent sized population centre or a motorway I lose signal.
I have just switched from Orange to Vodafone and don't remember losing signal completely as much as I am now so I am assuming that maybe Vodafone works better with another radio version. Yes I could spend a while testing different radios but the areas that I lose signal completely I do not go to daily and it would take a few months to properly test all 1.65 and 1.7x radios, so I thought I would ask the community because I figure I can't be the only UK Vodafone customer using a WM6.5 ROM...
I am primarily interested in network coverage, then battery life and lastly GPS locktime (as I use a Bluetooth GPS unit instead of the onboard)
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Check the The Ultimate Radio Thread for other users on network, or look @ peoples sigs on same network, the easiest way is to flash and find the best as so many variables involved.
On that note not ROM Development thread closed.

[Q] doubts about radio

Hi, im from brazil. i have some problems with network signal.
in places where friends of mine from the same network operators (vivo)
have a full 3g signal, i cant even get an edge. but in open spaces i get a good signal. im on CM7 nightlys,
baseband I9020XXKB3,
and my build is GRJ22.
signal on -95dbm now.
my questions are:
can i solve this problem by flashing a new radio such as XXKD1?
what really is the function of the radio?
does the contry that im on now request a diferent radio?!
thx for the attention?
Radio effectiveness differ from user to user. Depending where you are. What might be a good radio to me might be bad to you n vise versa. Unfortunately you will have to try them by yourself and judge.
For me kd1 gives me a better reception but slightly more battery drainage than kb3. Some users reported better data speed. Try it out and see.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
thx for the attention man!
i'll try them all.
another thing, do you know if the radio already comes with the ROMs
or i would have to flash it always apart?

Which Radio in Southeast CT?

I know that radios vary greatly by location and one radio where I am could be crap while somewhere else it could be awesome. But I have tried a couple radios now and they all seem to be pretty poor for my area except the one that came with the phone. If someone else in the area knows of a better radio please let me know or just direct me back to the stock radio. Thanks
Honestly if the stock radio or the second stock radio that came with the update works best, I would go with that one. In my experiences the performance of a radio can differ in as little as five or six miles.. For example the desire gb radio works awesome at my house, but performs extremely poor where I go to college (about five miles away), while the stock performs okay at my house, and works amazing at the college I go to.
I live in SW CT, and I've about had it with att. Ive tried all the radios and they all are about the same. Thinking about picking up a thunderbolt now that LTE is available.

Worse Signal Since Rooting/Roming

Good news is I rooted and loaded CM 10.1 Rom last night with zero issues! I was actually very surprised that I didn't have a single hiccup.
Bad news: the signal strength here at home is definitely worse since rooting/roming ...took my first call this am and it was horrible. When in and looked at my signal strength and Im at -110db. Am I right in my assumption that with rooting and roming that I am now on an older radio than stock 4.1.1 OTA? If yes is there a way to flash the latest radio? Also my 4G seems to be working good. Thanks for any help!

Regardless of what ROM/radio combo you are using the signal strength is hit or miss. Right now I am using the radio from the latest OTA and flashed the Avatar ROM and get -95 dBm signal strength at home and has been consistent almost everywhere I go. If I were to flash another ROM I might not get the same results. Lastly if you want to flash the latest radio go to the android development section to find it then flash it to your phone.

Signal strength really depends on many things, like the current radio and rom you're running. In general, AOSP roms like CM10.1 have worse signal than TW roms. Try Cleanrom or Bean's rom.

I am using an AOSP ROM(Avatar) and have better signal. You have to take into account where you live as I got average signal strength with the ROMs you've mentioned. ROMs and radios can only improve, degrade or do nothing for your signal strength. In reality your location and your carriers coverage in the area you live in along with the phone you have play a larger role in signal strength. Example I live in New York City(urban area) so I generally have good coverage and a strong signal with most of the phones I ever owned. This phone has average signal strength which is the worse out all my previous phones. Cleanrom and Beans didn't improve that but the Avatar ROM gave me the type of signal strength I was accustomed to with my previous phones.

Well, by the nature of TW based roms being specifically built for our device, and explained by many devs, TW roms communicate better with the radios and *usually* have better signal. It depends on other factors, you might just be lucky.

I am going by my experiences with cell phones and this is the only phone that needed to be rooted/jail break to improve cell signal. That is on Samsung for poor radio design. I shouldn't be getting the signal strength of someone living in a rural area in the city. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and other carriers have great cell coverage in NYC and your phone should capitalize on that. It is a known fact that the Galaxy S 3 isn't the best when it comes to cell reception. It is also a known fact is not everyone will have the same experience when rooting their phones signal strength included so an AOSP ROM giving me better signal isn't luck just proof that results vary from user to user.
