works for me.
Can access the main website but the forums are dead...
I can't even get to the main website. Keeping my fingers crossed for an update, perhaps they are simply too incompetent to publish an update without bringing the site down We can always hope can't we?
UPDATE: I can load it now. It's the same as always. It looks like they have temporary network problems, so don't hold your breath for an update
I can't access either the main site or the forums site.
I didn't know they were still working on this UI! Last time I logged on, it was a dead forum except for a few straglers....
i was on there yesterday, now the site won't work for me...
Site is working today, 4/10/08 for me. looks like it should be working for everyone.
No new updates to their program sadly.
Yeah its working, i think they have changes there hostings coz it is loading quite fast now.
okay, it works again... but why should we care anymore... i believed that there would be something new coming, but now it seems that PointUI will share SCLPC's Fate as there has not been a new version out of that one either.
Guess it doesn't pay off to do something for free for the community.
yea this sucks. i want something new and fresh and cool for my phone. Anyone have any ideas on something. I've used iPhone themes before, tried the S2U2 things, used the Cube, used Pointui, used Spb Software. Anyone got any ideas on something cool for our phones????
There is a response from one of the developers today in the Support and Bug fixes forum.....
Forgive the multuple posts.....
PointUI is alive http://www.pointui.com/home.aspx
ans it looks f%^*kin awesome....
Wee. Let's revive. PointUi is dead. Getting nowhere >.> I so want the new pointui it looks slick!
It would just be nice if their forums actually were accessible half of the time... It's usually down it seems.

Now that everyone is happy to get root back. What do you think the next big thing coming for this phone is.
Qtronix
I want to see something like OpenArena get ported :-D, or some game that actually uses the 3D power on this jawn!! Pref FPS and using the accelorameter.
Anyways, good looks to everyone who helped in getting this going, I was stuck with an unrooted rc30 for a minute!! thanks!!!
When I get time, I want to play around and see if any emulators can run and access the framebuffer without going through Java.
Plenty of the major console emulators (nintendo, sega, arcades, neo-geo, etc.) have been compiled to run on ARM processors already (GP2X/GP32). I'd love to see them on a G1, tho it might take doing the Debian thing to get to where they'd actually work.
Free sim unlock Or porting windows mobile
Yeah another 1+ for Windows Mobile on the G1.
More apps being developed that require root, (Home Today Screen) like WinMo....
Someone should just write out a list of things to do after root.
Can you WinMo-on-G1 guys keep your posts on this thread pretty please? That way the rest of us only have to ignore one thread.
I'm a little disappointed* that the pace of things is going so slow. I don't recall the timeline but when the iPhone was hacked, there were little programs popping out all over the place as people recompiled things for the OS.
*I'm not a programmer so I'm not going to tell others how to do their work. I presume native apps are coming and I'll be grateful when they get here at whatever pace.
What about flash? Iphone has a little app that lets them use flash. When's ours coming?

Let's see.... iPhone came out how long ago? They still don't have cut & paste? They still don't have MMS? They still don't have ...... A LOT
Yet you are worried about the pace we are seeing things? Sorry, but major problems are being resolved daily.

I been trying to get copy and paste ported but it need to developed in the sdk better. I am also porting touchflo to g1, well a knock off verison lol.

Is it really though? Granted, while we will all eventually get it, would you know if it was being pushed OTA right this second? Historically, one or two people got the OTA update and they announced it.
However, now that everyone has OTA blocked (minus the people that don't bother and also don't frequent boards)...who is going to tell us if Google doesn't post something up the very second it is available?
then youll have to wait a few days.
Check the t-mobile forums, nothing yet.

There's alway the question of the dev phones. No OTA update for them anyway, and google is going to tell the devs to upgrade their phone. There will probably be some kind of announce on android-development mailing lists as well.
Don't worry, we'll know, one way or the other

But I wanna know NOOOW
Our updates are blocked really? I honestly wondered if our phones downloaded the updates then tried installing the update or it sends the keys then updates. But the answer is not that important to search. As for things being done I believe Jf recompiled busybox from 1.8 mb to 700k and linked it to the system. That's a big step forward

good luck with the porting!!
Quick status update.. Im Guessing this is harder than i imagined, if anyone could give me a pointer to how to make a system.img from sdk i would appreciate it, then it would be done no maps or market yet, but once i have the system.img on my g1 i can see what files need placing on or modifying to put google apps on, im sure its not impossible, im lucking forward to getting this workin.. the g1s capable of running this.. the only thing worrying me is that im guessing its gonna need the new SPL seeing as its apps are bigger than hero.. Anyway, Promise by tomorro i will have figured out how to make a system.img and ill post it up on here
I'm working on it since saturday evening and now i'm really stuck. Do you wanna to share clues? My ICQ/AIM: 278-783-808 or jabber: [email protected] or yahoo: [email protected]

My hdd has gone on me just now! arrrgh (Posting from dads laptop, sadly it runs winblows )!, One thing i did notice however is that its a very big OS, the whole thing is bigger than Hero, so maybe taking out some of the Chinese widgets like the one on the 1st page which i have no idea what it does but im shure that takes up alot of space so.. And dont replace it with hero one.. Thats still rather big, get the image working 1st before trying to PIMP it out
If anyone wants to share there update script from ophone let me know i have a build almost complete, just missing the script.
No, It is NOT actually bigger than Hero. I'm working on it, follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3960559#post3960559
Will anyone be able to use it? Does the SDK include an english version or is all the writing in chinese?
Hmmm, Maybe i've done something wrong then.. Mines coming out at around 80mb :S, I got the feeeling thats why mine dint work at all lol, Ill start from scratch, Im not really getting anywhere fast when my laptops kinda bugged up
Yes it is also in english (it's default language) but there are some chinese trash i suppose.
EDIT: Again link to my thread where I have very first beta. I need to solve probs with Audio and Video http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526436

We can work as group. I have some friends who are helping me with some linux in it but I'm the only one who is doing android stuff so you can help me and they will help us with linux sphere
There are zillions of apps and ROMs and stuff here on XDA-dev. Some are buried in forum threads going back years.
I quite like to browse through software and fixes just to see what's there, and in the forum format it's really difficult. Anyone think it would be good to drag all the software into a common, browsable location? We don't need all the threads of people saying that they are downloading now, or the development process of new versions, just the latest version and a description with a screen shot.
Ha, I hope this doesn't mean I'm volunteering to do it!
thumbs up for it.
great idea. it would make it easier for lot many people.
That would be great =)
I'm sure I posted something similar a couple of years ago, maybe I just thought it, not sure. Either way, this would be awesome. There was a ROM a while ago that had a built in program for getting updates for programs and new programs, can't remember what it was called; what happened to that? I think it was a Hermes ROM.
Is the Microsoft Marketplace an option, or are there costs/hassle involved with listing free stuff on there?
Apptodate it was called.

that's just to keep some apps updated, not to install new ones.
and the reason for not using microsoft marketplace is because 1: it needs to go through microsoft first and 2: it costs money to get your app there.

I think you're thinking of Pocket Download Manager. You can download it seperately from the ROM, but you have to register it (for free though).
Also, an XDA-Developers App store has been done many times. There was Pocket Download Manager, Jak Portal (which became OpnMarket), Gecko (now defunct it seems), FireSale (Gecko successor, also Defunct). It seems only the first 2 are actually still active, but IMO OpnMarket is the most promising.
Sound idea
Might have gained me a night's sleep
Great idea!
I'm volunteering to do it too.
Sounds like a plan to me, lets home some mods read this.
I searched the forums for anything like this and couldn't find anything so I am starting a new topic.
I came across a new Android game that is under beta testing called Runes-MMORPG and from what I have seen, it looks really neat. They need tons of testers and people that will report bugs in the forums.
You need to register in the main site and register in the forums. Note: They ask for a lot of information like your home address; no SSN though After you register in the main site, they will email you some instructions and a link to download their Runes.apk file.

I, unfortunately, can't play it myself because I have a TP2 and the Android port for it is still under development, but I still want to know what you guys think.

I very much share the same opinions, Installed it a few weeks ago but stopped playing it for a while because I was a bit confused ons ome aspects..
in the official website last time i checked, FAQ isnt working yet,,
no online manuals/game guide can be found
in the map view, it doesnt show where you currently are..so I cant remember (or maybe im missing something?)
in the spellbook it deosnt clearly say what spells you already have and what you still need to unlock..
i cant explain it that much now, since I stopped playing but the UI seem to take time learning..anwyay, Im not uninstalling yet since this app looks promising..
im in, playing now.. not quite what i was hoping for. going to remove, was hoping will be more 3D action like runescape kinda game.
i beleive it has potential though.
Hi xda-developers,
We are about to launch PadKite in the Android market and we are currently collecting feedback from real users. Beta version now available for download at padkite web-page. As a new user we are not allowed to post links, please let us know your feedback on the application. You can also subscribe to our Beta Program. We are eager to hear your opinion.
PadKite is also an excellent app for tablets so we are also looking for people to test it on their tablets. Whether your multitouch device is a phone or tablet. Your feedback is very important to us. For any questions, please reply to this post or contact us at PadKite Contact us.
More about PadKite™: PadKite™ is the first multi-touch mobile mouse created to manage the tiny content on our cellphone screens. Never fumble or miss a target again. Breeze through favorite websites in a flash with customizable multitouch gestures. Post media and text to Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, all at the swoop of a fingertip.
Wow! This looks like an awesome tool!
There's only Éclair and Froyo versions available though, I'm running custom Gingerbread on my N1.
I tried running the Froyo version on my N1 anyway, but it Force Closes as soon as trying to open the app.
Any ETA on a Gingerbread version? I'm quite eager to try your product!
They said a GB compatible copy will be along soon.
I really wanted to try it but it force closes on me.
Always wanted to tryout multi-touch...
nice stealth edit trololol...
Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

They included the complete libwebcore.so in there effectively including a complete web browser in their so called mouse driver. What up with that?
Just sitting and clapping my hands :]
looks wonderfulll .. Did anyone try it already ? does it seem safe and real?
btw: So I've understood that it is a browser like dolphin and others. .. does it include Flash? (btw does it have hebrew as other browsers?)
Hi xda-developers,
Hope you are enjoying flying the web with PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse.
Yes, it is a web browser. It includes extended Webkit libraries that makes it heavier. Hopefully these will be able to be submitted into the WebKit build on the near future. The application does not include Flash for the moment and does not run on top of the OS or other applications. As a new concept we are starting small running as a stand alone browser aiming to grow bigger. We are braking the mold on multi-touch interaction and that has to be gradually. As you might have notized it has a lot of potential.
Currently we are making adjustments in order to run in all versions. This requires a lot of effort however it will allow PadKite to run in almost all devices. If you want to run on a Gingerbread version, let us know via our contact form and it will be delivered shortly.
Some users have experienced problems with Android versions of FRG83D and FRG83. We are currently looking into this and we will come up with a solution shortly. If you have problems, running PadKite on your Froyo, please contact us via our contact form too or join our beta program. We need as much information as possible from our users (especially your Logcat). Also, take part in our beta program and you will be the first to get updated on new versions.
Please follow PadKite on Twitter and get up-to-date info on new builds at padkite account.
Thanks for helping us make PadKite even better!
Cheers,
Jose Vigil
RoamTouch CEO
looks great, I'm looking forward to trying it when its available for Gingerbread.. also it would be great to get the adobe flash integration working.. But looks like a great concept, original and useful.
Bumping this, as it is a clear winner as a productivity tool, but so few people seem to have heard about it. I'm a huge fan, and that's based on only having seen the videos, as well as it partially working on a mate's Xperia X8 (the X8 lacks multi-touch, so is unable to take advantage of some of the more powerful features, such as text-selection via second finger-rotation, although as a pointer it works perfectly)!
Hoping they get back to me soon with an offer into the Beta program, as I'm dying to get this app! Also hoping they take it further, and fast, so that it becomes an integral Android feature, rather than just a browser tool.
This is a game-changer, people, so get on board and bring your family and friends!

Don't hold your breath on this one buddy. I gave up. I recieved 6 APK's from the dev...not one of the worked. FC every time. I was working on it with him for quite a time, and it never worked. Seems to only work on one or two phones.
Won't be holding my breath, but certainly won't be abandoning hope! If those who have been able to get it working could post details of which model phones they have, as well as the models that haven't worked, plus current Android version, the devs might be able to narrow the issue down. Not sure if I'm able to start a new thread, being a noob and all, so if people could list the following in this thread it would go a long way towards getting us what we want:
Phone model
Android version (stock or rooted)
Whether it worked or not, and if not, at what stage it crashed, plus any further comments.

Send the dev any info you like...it didn't help. I was in contact with him for a few weeks. I don't 'abandon hope' unless it's time to abandon it. After emailing back and forth for a few weeks, then not hearing back from the dev for the last 3 months, I would say it's abandonment time.

Good luck with getting things figured out around here.
Crappy app, perhaps, but only in terms of its failing to work for most who've tried it thus far. The idea itself is a brilliant one, I believe!

95% of brilliance is implementation.
I can think of a bazillion good app ideas...but making them actually work is where the real skill is. I am upset with padkite because they seem to have spent all this time on making a website and sharing the idea...then they spent 2 minutes actually BUILDING the app...and it's garbage.
This looks fantastic. I downloaded and try to join beta program, to improve your software.
And 14mb is nothing, nowdays phones have 1gb or so of ROM space. Or move it to SD card.

Are you suggesting that they faked the videos of padKite working on the Motorola (Droid?) phone? Because unless they did indeed fake the videos, then they had the app working on at least one phone! Obviously more than 2 minutes were spent, and I'm guessing the problem to be overcome is actually a rather minor yet befuddling one.
As stated earlier, I've seen padKite partially working on a mate's Xperia X8, so we aren't talking vaporware, here. Please, Mean Mr Mustard, change your heart and let hope in, and encourage others to do the same, instead of working against what you've already acknowledged is something good enough to upset you by virtue of not working for you.
There must be some out there who've been able to get padKite at least partially working. Chime in, fellows, and let's make this fairy well again!
