I currently own an O2 XDA IIi (HTC Alpine), I am quite satisfied with it but it has gotten a bit old, there is no OS upgrade, so I cannot enjoy many of the new apps which are made exclusively for WM5.0/6.0/6.1. I am wondering which device to buy. I thought about :
- getting an HTC Advantage
- getting an HTC Kaiser
- getting O2 XDA Flame (but WM 5.0!!!!)
- waiting for E-ten V900 or SE Xperia X1
I use my PPC as a phone (about 1-2 calls a day, 2-3 SMS a day), to play MP3 (about 1-2 hours a day), to play some games especially using FPSECE PSX emulator. I also use it as a "mini-PC".
The Advantage seems to be extremely powerful but I am afraid itmight be too big for me (I want to know how it compares to an XDAIIi with 2400 mAh battery thus making it thicker; I also want to know how the Kaiser compares to Nokia 6600 ).
HTC Kaiser also appears to be a good choice but I am not sure it will be powerful enough for me, especially with the driver problem.
I also thought of waiting for E-ten V900 or SE Xperia X1 (especially the latter), but I want a new PPC before July, and I am not sure when these devices will be released.
Another question : what about upgrading to Windows Mobile 7.0 in the future? Will it be possible ? Or is the question thoroughly irrelevant as the OS is still under development ?
Can you help choose my future device ? Thanks
have you looked into this? I see it on your list but is it at the top?

I hear what your saying. I've been getting very anxious to upgrade my current ppc and the X1 is what I want. I told my wife, if I upgrade to the Tilt now, she will inherit it when the X1 comes out. She also would also inherit my 8525 if I got the Tilt now. apparently I'm out of my gaourd.... Needless to say, thats a ton of money just to get what I want.
Good luck with your descision....
ROLL UP FOR THE MYSTERY TOUR - wat the **** is that -
the fone looks ace - but that advert is everything that is wrong with america!
before i got my advantage [im getting another one soon...] i went on pdadb, and got the measurements. then i drew the outlines on some paper, and compared them to my hermes. the best thing was, it was thinner, and really not that much bigger...
kinda made the final decision about getting it

last info i got on the release of x1 was september

Nice. I thought Sony Ericsson was a Japanese company. Or they make the product and America promotes it?
Go here and pick you own region and give us your thoughts then.

So, does it fit in your pocket ? (My XDA IIi fits but it's a bit thick ) Is the performance really good ? (much better than that of Kaiser, for instance ?)
it's pretty much the same hardware as kaiser so it all comes down to if
sonyE is also too cheap to pay qualcomm for their driver
Well, depends wht pocket. School trousers... no. skinny jeans obviously not. tracksuit bottoms, yep. Blazer pocket definitely.
So it depends on where you want it lol.
Its about double the speed of any of my other devices. But i guess thats because the other two both lacked something, the tytn lacked the ram, and my touch lacks the processor.
The advantage has it all. which is why im getting another one.
Rory
Definitely NOT xda Stealth
hmm
my next toy will def be the X1 from sony just look awsome . as far as the advantage man thats not much money for a phone might as well buy a laptop or a EEE PC from asus they rock. love my EEE
Hi all, I'm usually over at the vox section, but my daughter wants one of these tornados. I know nothing about them and was wondering if this would be a good purchase for $109.00 usd. Can you tell me good/bad about these phones if possible. Thank you all for your help!
Come on people, 26 of you have viewed this, I REALLY need an answer soon! Can you recommend this phone or not? PLEASE!
If you mean $109 including shipping and almost new phone then yes go for it, otherwise add $20 more and get new one from ebay.
About this phone:
Well I am sure others know more about it, but I am going to say that only thing missing in it is GPS. I mean I dont see what can any new phone do more than this one. You can use wifi for free internet (that means free skype calls all over the globe), watch movies in great quality, play music, put so many optional home screens and so many free programs as it's a windows based phone etc etc
You actualy might say its a mini notebook phone
Me and my wife both have them and we love them.

I agree with bllohin and recently bought a brand new one for my son for almost the same amount; see my sig at the bottom of this reply
The only issue is the camera is not much as compared to more expensive models. If you are (or your daughter) is brave enough to flash modified ROMs which are released in this forum then there is much improvement (but not the camera because it is hardware dependant).
Thanks

It's superb phone and I really like it. Upgraded to WM6.1.
Has tons of free programs / games that you can add.
I pity those brainwashed people who buy iPod while they can get a better phone for like 7-8 times less
Go for it! I bought it a few weeks ago, at first , i still feel unsure on this phone and O2 Graphite ,but i finally choose this one, for it mostly include all the functions on a cell phone ,and there are lots of resource on net.if a new one cost $100, it is much more cheaper than mine.... so go for it ~~ you will soon enjoy it~~
I love my tornado to be honest with you, i don't really need to upgrade it. Especially with all the ROM updates you can get here, they really put new life into the phone! especially the new 6.1 edition.
HOWEVER
I'd also like to get my hands on the new S730 that is basicly identical but has boosted up features and the slide out keyboard, which for me would be great as i do more typing then talking on the phone.
Other then that, i don't see any other reason. This phone is SuperB! has everything in it!
I agree that the Tornado is one of the best smartphones HTC ever released. I have the Tempo variant running 6.1 and I like it as much as my Touch Diamond! The only things I will say against it are that the RAM/ROM is a little low (64/64) and it could be a little thinnner than it is. And it would be nice if it had built-in GPS/3G.
The price you are being offered is a little on the high side. I just bought mine for about $100 new.
Hi all
Im considering getting a raphael, so I was wondering if you guys feel that it was worth the buy?

I would never pay 500+ euro for this device, my business payed the bill (-;

wel.. you have to buy it.. we have it already.. hehe.
fitrst: I would never buy a 500 euro phone.
I got it for free with my new contract....
About what ya wanna hear....
I really like the phone.....
It does everything I expect from it...
There are a few things HTC forgot , but with a little bit of help in this community it all works quite good...
And 4 me all the annoying things are solved here...
Offcourse everyone has another opinion.. but the most people here in the pro section are satisfied users...at least that's what I understand....
The phone is very simple in use....it's handy... and you can do a lot with it....
the new version of windows mobile is running smootly as well here...
I like the windows because there are SO many apps you can use...
The performance is good
the functionality is good
the camera is good
all fine for me...
But I'M PROBABLY NOT A HEAVY USER....
I guess I'm somewhere in the middle ...
well good luck with your decision..
agreed with above.... works pretty well and the major complaint I hear is that the battery is crap but I get 3 days out of it given I dont bluetooth or wifi.
I won't go into the good things so just assume everything ios good for me.
Only points to note that bother me some are:
1) when the phone locks... the volume buttons still work...WTF and that is really annoying and I have yet to figure out how to stop this. I tried reading the millions of pages here on this forum but have yet to find anything to install so this will be fixed.
2) heaver then normal phones. For me I'm use to using nokia or SE phones so when I switched to a WM based phone, the weight takes some getting use to. If u have been a WM user all along, u wont have this problem... really a personal beef I'd say.
3) Thickness.... it pretty thick in my opinion but only because its height and width are pretty compact which makes the phone seem think in the hand... I get its pretty much the same size as other WM based phone but still getting use to it.
I take it ur lvl of expertise is not as shallow as mine as I'm still very new at WM so I dare not touch flash the ROMs or tweak the registry because if I F it up, then I have no clue how to fix it.....
For u to write on thie forum is already half the battle won as the ppl here as the best bunch I've seen and the developers here are awesome...
To ur original question, I would rate this phone 4.5/5 if ur into WM phones. You can consider the Diamond BUT u will hv to live with shorter battery life and a bit of slower performance du to half the internal memory RAM. My 2 cents worth, hope it helps u out a bit.
Samsung Korea announced this Morning the T*OMNIA, the OMNIA’s big brother. If basically both the OMNIA and T*OMNIA are similar, the Korean version has some improved features, with :
- A slightly larger Screen 3.3” (Regular OMNIA has only a 3.22”)
- A Higher Screen Resolution of 480 x 800 (Regular OMNIA has only a 240 x 400 screen resolution)
- A DMB TV Tuner (Digital TV Tuner)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[MOD EDIT] Removed gigantic (hot-link protected) pictures.
But then some further digging I found the official Anycall.com website:
http://www.anycall.com/bbs.review.r...sR9~&start_page=1&direction=1&bbs_type=review
They are fronting this as the SCH-M490
Can you believe this now has a 806Mhz CPU!!! Not so sure about the lower RAM, but if their keeping up with the i900 which was rather snappy to use I can't see any probs.
I'd love to purchase one and convert it to English from Korean. Is converting the language very difficult?
Does anyone know how easy it is to purchase one from korea? Anybody with info please let me know I'd be very grateful
they might actually be shipping it in WWE - they do this sometimes in Asia.
Like you, I think I could happily kill someone (i dont like) for one of these. I currently have a 16gig Omnia and love it... far better than ANY of the many HTC phones i've had in the past.
If anyone can tell me how/where to get one of these without flying over, that would be sweet!
T*OMNIA from korea
Ei
Glad to see some people interested in the t*omnia at xda devs... I've been waiting so long for this smartphone to came out... I'm planning to buy one soon, but not until someone can assure me it can make it run on english. So we have here something similar to the question of what's first, the chicken or the egg... I'll buy the phone before someone cooks an english rom (something i'm not able to do myself) or I wait somene does and then I buy...
well, anyway I'll try to post any news about the device from here (seoul)
And BTW if someone else plans to release an english rom I'll do everything I can to support it
thanks!!
yes please! Please keep us informed from your end of the world
I've been with T*OMNIA
Yes, finally this afternoon I was able to spend some time (short) with the T*OMNIA, now, in order to be true I must say I've never seen a regular omnia i900 directly, BUT I've been with the iphone...
Well, in short, the phone was great, the new interface looks a little like the one in the new HTC phones, and the "responsiveness" of the screen was really, really satisfying, and also everything goes like a breeze, I've seen almost no difference with previous dumbphones like the Haptic 2, wich widget interface was 90% same as T*OMNIA, really fast (806 MHZ at work, I supose).
The operating sistem was indeed in korean, but I didn't found big difficulties to operate it, as many programs where still in english (opera mobile, windows media, etc etc), and also I can download any program in english if I wish, so...
Now, after all the goodness, there is something that will made me NOT buy it, probably: NO FREE LANDSCAPE MODE!! Yes, just like the iphone one, only some applications where using it, like the mp3 player, movie player and opera and web browsering... no landscape for message and mail, no landscape in menu or other applicatios, and after all I forgot to open word to check it...but not hopeful of landscape even there. You may wonder, but I've really checked the phone for options on the screen and they where INEXISTENT!! I'm askig the korean forums if this will be solved in the next firmware, but I doubt it...
So definitely not worth that much money if things came like that...
Samsung really treats its own korean costumers as if they were stupids
I'll update as soon as I can...
well, that is a bit crap!
LOL, are you guys serious?
Just use Gyrator 2. Seriously I expected better from people at xda-devs.
I don't know if gyrator 2 will work with the t*omnia, also I forgot to comment that the battery life is much less than regular omnia (due 806 MHZ) processor and that the general memory is ONLY 4 GIGAS (that cost around 800 USD with a two year contract), samsung will made a special version of 16 GIGAS but just 2000 (yes, two thousand) will be available... what a ****!!

Why should we? The normal omnia doesn't need it so why should the next version need it?
And maybe, just maybe, we don't spend all our lives on this forum and only pop in for a visit/gander. Seriously, I expected people here to understand we are not all phone mad.
I would expect the larger res screen would also eat a lot more battery power. Combine that with the faster cpu and yeah, would think the battery would last a lot less. Very disapointed that its only got 4gig .... real shame. One of the selling points for me was the ability to have a phone with 32gig in it. Thats also one hell of a price considering that has to be WITH a two year contract as well... wonder what they sell for off contract? Couple of thousand?
so is this omnia recommended over the prev. one ?

Definitely NOT under the actual conditions, oh, BTW I forgot to tell you that the GPS is NOT a-gps but s-gps, so biiig shiit again. That's not to say that the phone can be very atractive... but by now it seems like a capped version....4 gigas sounds like a joke, specially when outside korea is 8 to 16 gigas... koreans are also complaining about the battery life, but this pint I can't confrm wether is that bad or not, since this is the first smartphone (beh) to be popular in korea, the koreans expected it to behave like a dumbphone (compare your regular nokia-razor vs a i900, off course battery drainage is different), so they complain a lot.
Well, I just it will everything improove with time, but now I'm looking for an unlocked samsung i900, I've heard the american CDMA version can work in korea, so I'm gonna check, I can exchange a slower processor and less resolution for bigger battery life, full functioning apps, internet radio, A-GPS, no samsung propietary crap USB accessory(that's another point, is really a little fragile device that someone designed to made it specially prone to lost and destroying), english software support, etc etc etc.
I'll wait until february, then I'll decide over everything, by that time the omnia 16 giga woud have been released (some rumours says it will be firmware upgraded, but with so few units....who knows), and also the iphone wold be released-with all the good and bad thinks of the iphone-and I prefer to have that smartphone that no smartphone or a crapphone that cost me a leg an four ribs...
I'll keep you updated for any news related to the t*omnia that came to my ears and eyes
so now i have the choice of:
1-waiting for a better version of the t-omnia.
2-buying the original omnia.
3-buying an HTC HD or Pro (dont want to cause i hate HTC by now)
4-buying the new ASUS
or waiting a little more with the headaches of my Kaiser.......who knows maybe switching to androide if nothing comes up!
talking about ENGLISH ver !!!

Samsung has appliedfor FCC (USA) clearance for the SCH-M490 which means an English version will likely to released in USA.
......................................
It (SCH-M490) also applied for FCC (USA) approval meaning it will be launched in USA once it is approved.
See http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10063032-1.html
To be launched in USA means that it has be English version.

sanybody from korea can help?
Im on orange and in my upgrade period. I was going to go to another network but i got a deal from Orange.
Please can you help urgently with what you guys would recommend.
Last week i went for the Blackberry 8900 Curve but i am used to touchscreens and told orange who advised i could have the below phones. Also i wanted the SE Xperia X1 but was told that this was "never" released on Orange due to not passing various tests and that they would highly recommend against it. I see on here that the new Xperia X2 is soon to be out, when that is i dont know and if it will be a normal non buggy functional phone.
Nokia E71 - not touchscreen though
Blackberry 8900 Curve - Not touchscreen, not 3G, 150 sms storage limit
HTC Hero
HTC Touch (apparently cant have the pro version??)
HTC Touch HD
Samsung Omni HD i8910HD - OLED screen doesnt last long??
Nokia 97
Toshiba TG01 - Review doesnt have much favour for it at www.techradar.com , phone is also quite big
Can you guys advise cos it will be a 24 month contract and i rfeally dont want a handset that will be a problem for all that time.
I have used previously the SE P910i/P990i and also the HTC tytn 2.
I liked the P910i thought it was slow and then i came across the P990i and was unhappy with its sluggish performance, buggy software, and constant problems inc bluetooth not wanting to work with all other handsets. I liked the SE P Series phones as they backed up my contacts/sms etc onto a pc so if i ever losty the phone i could retrieve it and as well as that being able to do a lot more with them than a normal phone ie programs and ability to save unlimited (as far as i could tell) Sms/Mms etc.
The Tytn 2 would have been ok but it really peeved me off a lot of the t, ususally from the touch screen not feeling my touch lol. ALso a key thing for me, it didnt backup the phone contacts or sms.
PLease could you guys tell me what is a good phone to get and also of any other recommendations as i have tried an dtried to look on goog;e and reviews etc but it seems i keep getting the wrong info or if it is right i get more negative reviews than positive. Its really frustrating me now.
I would like the following functions:
Touchscreen
Backup to pc of phonebook contacts/Sms/Mms
Ability to be able to save unlimited Phonebook numbers and Sms
Ability to be used as a satnav using the Oraneg (UK) nav software or possible other co
Preferable to have 3G capability
Intuitive GUI
Least amount of headache so no buggy software or not doing as told lol or real slow performance
I will use as a media device but as a bsuiness pda type when i can start a business.
I need to know in the next asap i had to tell them today but they have been pushed to tommorow.
Please help and if you need any more info please do ask. As far as i recall i think i have covered it all.
Thanks
Welcome to forums
I would go for Touch Pro 2, and in second place I´ll chose Tosh TG01
Uhh..hello Hero.
although this isnt completely relavent to your post
u say u want a reliable phone as you dont want a problem phone for 24 months
theres a clause in orange contracts thats states if you have 3 faults the same during ur contract then thy will offer to give you a different handset
it takes a while too argue but it works
after sending me faulty samsung omnias that kept failing (handset lockups) i told them i wouldr prefer a different phone as id rater not have a 4th faulty phone
one guy told me this isnt in the rules isaid id take it up with another department they said it is in the rules but they logged my three handset locjups as keyboard failures. so there fore i wasnt entitled to a ifferent handset
after only three days of constant *****ing they finally told me theyd send my a touch hd
the moral to the story, dont be scared to ***** and moan
After playing with my wife's HTC Magic, I would happily recommend the HTC Hero. Capacitive touchscreen, responsive OS, plenty of apps for download, "proper" satnav through CoPilot Live and decent location services.
If you're set on sticking with WinMo then the Toshiba TG01 isn't bad at all. Yes it is quite large compared to some handsets, but the raw speed is noticeable in general app use and the screensize would make satnav a joy.
Another one to consider is the Samsung Omnia B7610 (Louvre). Think of it as a Samsung version of the Touch Pro 2.

Lol Thanks
Pilot -
Thanks ref the isnurance advice.
I have been down this route and to say i was talking to brick walls or that getting water out of a stone would probably be near the mark lol.
Orange were adamant i didnt have a problem with my SE P990i and also didnt tell me about the 3 strike rule either.
I was a good boy and didnt ask for a different moidel for about 18 months. The phone would just trun the backlight on fo rno reason on and off, the bluetooth decided it didnt like lg phones etc, it would do soo many things that would peeve me off and to think that my old trusty P910i was thought of as slow, man that was like a Pebtium 4 PC compared to the lowly P2 status of the P990i.
Yeah, basically one day after having lost my cool a few times with orange i got fed up and asked for a different model phone (after like the 5th replacement and all the palaava to get it flashed with backup etc taking an hour each time or so as well as the time wasted and onconvenience. They wouldnt do it cos they then aftyer 18 months said i have to have had 3 faults with it. I said wtf, howmany times have i rang you, how many replacement have i had, they then said no actually you need to have reported the same fault 3 times and i said wtf again - i said i have had the same faultS for 18 months with at least 5 handsets fi the same model but they said well... it depends what WE have logged on our system and wouldnt you believe it they had different logged faults for each scenario. So i said send a new P990i and iw ill show fault on bluetoothe again, so they did and i proved it again an dthen again. SO 3 times and each of these times ie 5 before and twice later they tried to charge me 30 pounds as per conditions through my insurance with them. The cheeky so and so's. I told them 2 year sony gurantee they said no, rang sony with them on the line, they shutup but then said i had to deal with sony direct, referred them to consumer law which apparently they dont know anything about, so i reffered them to their lawers to ask such questions, each tikme i had to go through this ****e and they each time pretended they had no idea what i was going on about.
Anyway, i have only claimed once in like 13 years for a mobile phone through orange.
£5 x 12 = 60
£60 x 12.5 = £735 the bsterds
Thnaks pilot, i wish i had joined this site like a coupole of years ago man, i did se it but i thought no point, could have saved lots of headache lol with your advice then.

Main reason are 2:
1. It has hardware keyboard, for me is a must
2. Is HTC build so it will have better support on this site
