LOL... I can't believe to MY EYES!

Not only that, but they demoed PIE 6, which is the new version shipping at the end of the year, which includes flash lite 3. This shows current generation devices will have enough power to run flashlite 3 when it comes out.
Surur

Any dump of that ROM???
..Maybe videocall works too!!!

lol, that's a full screen static image being displayed. Nothing shown suggests they are actually rendering you tube on the Uni.

At 0:55 you can see something.. like a zoom on Universal.
And anyway: if it is a screenshot.. Why there is the green softkey for keyboard?

But Windows Mobile 6.1 will be officially released for HTC Universal?

Unlikely
A lot of the Original development for WM6 was done on the Universal, because thats what the Engineers at Microsoft have (and because its so awesome )
So it would appear that Microsoft's Engineers are doing dev of WM6.1 on the Universal too. While this may mean that there is not likely to be an official version; it does offer hope of some nice ROM and driver leaks...
UPDATE:
I love it how the video says "Windows Mobile Browser 6.0 on WM 6.1" and yet the site is claiming "Mobile Internet Explorer 6.1"

At 55 seconds the presenter has changed the device that is being projected on to the larger display. The zooming you see is the person taping the event zooming THEIR camera out to capture the whole screen. The IMAGE displayed on the JasJar doesn't change except when they swap one (possibly a different unit, lol) in to view with a STATIC portrait display of a web page. The keyboard icon you see is a frequent graphic artifact in Windows Mobile, often when full screen applications are interrupted (like orientation changes) the stupid little keyboard icon appears and doesn't go away even when full screen mode is returned. I did actually see that in PIE frequently on my Uni, but i believe also in many full screen image viewers.
I guess I just chuckle when a static image of a browser feature that isn't going to be finished for 9-12 months is displayed on an old device becomes a call for a ROM dump and hope for a 6.1 upgrade for the Uni. If it was capable of rendering the YouTube video, wouldn't they have shown it playing the video? Sure the Uni might get this feature down the road, but only if the XDA hackers put one together after it's made available for other device.
*Edit - that's definitely a device swap @ 1:15: never before in the history of Windows Mobile has a Universal changed from landscape to portrait and redrawn the screen entirely in less than 1 second.

Oh.. I see.. You're right.
Yes, He has two Universals. The probability of an official WM6.1 is nonexistent.
I had only an hope to dump that rom.. But you say it's a stupid picture.. Now.. I don't have even an hope!

What is this smartphone?

A friend at work recently bought this phone - manual is in chinese and it claims to be a 'Dopod 818'. It runs WM5 no problem, has a camera, bluetooth but no wifi. The 'settings' page shows the OS number as 5.1.476 with an XScale PXA270 312MHz cpu
But what is it? I can't find a reference to it anywhere on the web, least of all Dopod/HTC's website. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards it being some sort of chinese copy with pirated WM5 on...

818?
http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-magician-en.shtml
Nope, that's not a HTC Magician (aka 818)
Did you says it RUNS WM5? Or is it a simple Chinese knockoff?
hmmm...
Magician has 416mhz.
It definitely runs WM5 (even in English). CPU is 312MHz as stated. I don't think its a magician, as it has the numerical keypad not just arrow keys
It is VERY interesting. Having a XScale PXA270 312MHz CPU doesn't really help as it seems tons of phone are using it. One of the unique perspective of this phone is the keyboard/pad. As far as I know, there isn't any WM5 phone does that. And, from what it seems, it also a touchscreen.
AND.. VERY VERY interestingly, if you look at the bottom of the screen, you get all these print-on icons on the screen, which you usually gets with cheap knock-offs, which runs Linux. You pretty sure it is the real WM5? Why don't you test those lower buttons and see if they are working 'icons' or not.
If they work, and you can configure it in the Settings -> Buttons. I have no ideas then. However, if these buttons are not functional and/or they are not configurable in the Settings -> Buttons, chances are, the phone is originally done for other OS and have been hacked someway to run WM5.
Also, the 'Designed for' sticker doesn't look authentic to me too.. anyone with this sticker to confirm. Ironically, my Wizard doesn't have a sticker.. no wonder WM5 suxs in my case

definitely it is not dopod 818, Indeed that is not a dopod at all. Made in China!!! Currently you can even get a copy Iphone

I agree, the sticker looks a little suspect. What makes me also think its a knockoff (albeit good one) is the manual looks very generic (not a nice shiny front with colour picture like my Blue Angel), and the phone has a 1gb mini SD card inside which has a metric crapload of games on - I suspect they are pirated.
Bizarre!

Well, if you don't mind, you can open the battery and see what information you can find there.. and you can see if you can get anything from its IMEI. I think there are database in the net to check your maker based on the IMEI. I can't rememeber where I found this one before.
it look like a device running windows ce (which could explain the 5.1 thing)
what would be the test would be to install a cab file and see if it installs and works...

Pointui ?? A new wm interface ?

Hey guys, dont know if anyone has come across this yet but for those who havent it looks like there may be a new interface for your wm device. Its called Pointui but as yet theres not a lot of info just a youtube vid and some screen shots on flicker, the web site just shows a countdown to what apperes to be the new year but by the look of the screens it might be something to keep your eye on
Youtube link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pUBWYErW3s
Flicker link :http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/
Web site :http://there-is-no-place-like-home.com/
I must say after having look at it, I'd be very intrested to try this out when its released. It looks very slick
WOW I'm surprised that there has been less buzz about this. I'm intrigued!
Yes, seems to be inspired by the iPhone but no proof to say its a Windows Mobile device?
Regards,
Carty..
If you click on the youtube uploaders username and look at the other vid you can see that its running on a Wizard
Wizard specs..
Processor: OMAP850 - 195Mhz
Memory: 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM
Should run fine on my Orbit !!
Interesting
Looks promising. I wonder if it is flash driven or C+ coded. A little strange how the video shows him sliding his finger to the right and the screen animation goes left?? That would drive me nuts!

...Also, you'll note very shortly into the demo the "Windows Mobile Settings" menu option...
I watched the video a couple of times and it seems to move very smoothly and quickly. I really like the way it works...........HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I'd say its more inspired by frustration of what I call Windows 3.11 Syndrome and poor excuses for performance because they have limited memory and slower cpus.
Never used an iPhone, sure looks nice. Not sure about user interaction consistency across all their apps which is something we hope to achieve with our framework.
Rest assured this is running on Windows Mobile. Unlike so many others we haven't forgotten those with Windows Mobile 2003.

Wow--amazing ui. I share your frustration with the Win 3.11 syndrome but I hate that other people keep using the iPhone comparison. The iPhone is like a new puppy--everyone loves it because it's cute and could do simple things (email, web, music, movies, pictures, oh calls too). After awhile, then what? Everyone here can name 100 things their PDA/Phone can do more than the iPhone--except on tiny little thing....and that's doing it with style! Swipe here, roll there, flip here, touch there, whatever which way.
Pointui will complete my PDA and will probably get more people to buy a Win Mobile device now that it's balanced with usability and functionality. Thanks, can't wait for Jan 1.
Dorothy, can you give us any idea as to when you'll be offering this up to the public, and are you planning this as a freeware app or will you be charging for use?
simplicity05, the answers to your questions can be found at there-is-no-place-like-home.com
I checked that just a few hours ago and all it had was a timer counting down to the new year haha!
Oh My God. This looks so freaking sweet!
Im sure you guys have clicked it but heres the link to the pointui main site http://www.pointui.com/
Says it will be available for download as soon as the clock from no place like home reaches 0. Wooo.
If it runs that fast on a 195mhz device, thats great news. All these iPhone clones run slow on my 247mhz orbit (overclocked) ... so, looking forward to this one.
Im back again
Just watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRw1T-N5dic
Seems it uses the standard WM phone pad, which sucks, hope they do there own phone pad/full phone system thing. Also, wonder how the text messages/email is handles, hopefully not the standard WM outlook??? Any guys in the know about this?
The scrolling/changing screens by sliding your finger seems counter-intuitive. I like how on my touch I grab and pull to the side of the cube I want, this Pointui looks like it is grab and push towards the place you want to go, very awkward...
Other than that, it looks very interesting!
Actually I think that scrolling the finger to go to the next screen is really sleek and intuitive.
And the speed is amazing! Really smooth, even on a Wizard! OMFG! These guys know how to program
From the screenshots and video I only miss some antialiasing on some text (top text saying "telstra", and some text on the initial screen), and it would be great to integrate further apps into Home, like the phone and messages (read, write, send).
I think this will be, again, one of those applications that disappoint the moment I press one of the "system menu" buttons and end up in the WM6 menu without any transition.
Becaus then, it just doesn't make any sense... Man, being all happy that you can go through the menu with your finger just to find out that if you REALLY want to make system changes you have to use the old stylus again sucks.
I think all the iPhone cloning is a massive backleash...

iGO Amigo v8.4.2.95590 (Jun 23 2009) working on TD2/Topaz

Hello everyone,
I have iGO Amigo v8.4.2.95590 working on my HTC TD2/Topaz.
As there is no 800x480 resolution i use the graphics from 400x240 and Amigo blows them up to 800x480.
Works perfect, you will hardly see that the resolution is 400x240.
You can use any iGO8 R3 and R4 maps, buildings and so on for Amigo.
Amigo has it's own language files they end with .gro as wel as branding.gro and data.gro.
Amigo is a lot user friendlyer than iGO8.

That shoud be obvious because iGO amigo is only designed for PNA's and not for PDA's.
But when I start driving the orange bar disapears and doesn't come back anymore.
I have a new question,
A the beginning i had a Speed/Speed limit/Time indicator on the bottom left corner, now it's a Distance/Time left and Arrival time indicator.
Does anyone know how to change it back to Speed/Max Speed indicator?
I have found following:
The bottom left part of the screen is slightly customisable. When navigating you can either show all of distance remaining, time left and arrival time or you can press one and the others are hidden thus freeing up a bit of map space. When you are not navigating the options are current speed, speed limit and time. Note that when navigating there is no option to show the current speed on the screen. If you go over the speed limit the speed limit sign (in red circle) is displayed on the screen along with a spoken warning of 'you are over the speed limit'. Pressing the hand on the right takes you to a 'browse map' function that allows you to adjust the angle of elevation as well; I'm not quite sure on the usefulness of this function though...

Q: smallest available Windows Mobile phone ???

I need a second phone, I want it to have windows mobile, and I want it very very small.
Requirements: small size, touchscreen, small size, windows mobile, and small size
Any suggestions ???
Thanks !!
PS: It MUST be VERY small
Go to this page, and input your desired specifications. Hit "Start", and look at the results. In my test search for a device like the one you requested, I checked "Mini Device", set "Operating System" to "Windows CE", checked the box that says "Integrated Cellular Phone", and set "Pos. Device" to "Touchscreen". Searching with those terms should return devices that match what you want. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Actually that was the last page in my browser before hitting the "new thread" button here @ the "ole trusted" xda-devs forums
Yes, tech specs can be compared there, but the in-hand feel of a given device is somehow subjective (slim and not tall, but wide, vrs a small foot print front-looking thicker device, etc), so I wanted to hear some user oppinions
Thanks anyway !!
Will keep searching, and will take your advice regarding those parameters
I think the HTC Niki was quite small with a 2.6" screen, but the sliding keyboard might make it a bit fat.
Isn't the Diamond 1 small enough???

Yes, it definitely is the smallest one. Unfortunately also regarding the battery. With 900mAh it is way to little.
the diamond 1 is a very good device and its small the only thing bad about it is the crap CPU , it become hot when charging or playing with the phone and its also slow, in other word 528mhz FAKE
HTC Touch Cruise 09 is also the best qvga windows mobile out there
Pantech has a tiny phone
I think the Pantech Matrix Duo is a tiny WinMo phone, about the smallest I've seen, but I'm also pretty sure that it's not touchscreen. You can see more on it at the AT&T site, which is where I found it at.
thanks to all for your suggestions and comments

Why? Cus it's missing certain things (like the keypad), it's got a couple of bugs in it... like error messages asking to send info to Microsoft (see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639799) and also the blummin rotation thing seems to stick on portrait when i want landscape! That aside, i'm impressed
Oh, one more thing i don't like about it (though there is a way round it as always!)... tomtom... the TG01 cannot directly use it's built in gps! you have to get a 3rd party app to link in conjunction with it! You don't get issues like that on the Diamond or Blackstone do ya!
About the error you get ^_^
I have 2 TG01 devices and i did'nt get such an error ever.
But If I am not mistaken gwes.exe is actually the application that monitors your touch screen.
I also ran into some post that refered the error to the screen sensitivity (calibration) and also to the time you actually press the screen (on the same place)-it makes the CPU usage to hit the 40%+ some even talked about 80% in extreme cases...
did it also stay after hard reset/Rom flash?
if so when does it happen to you exactly?

Well, it normally happens when the unit has gone into hibernation mode or if you put it into 'sleep' unsing the power button and then wake it back up later on. I've just had it happen again about 5 mins ago. After that, it got really odd. Every time i pressed the power button, it 'flashed' the screen back on and then went off. This happened about 5 times. In the end, i had to pull the battery and restart. Weird.
As for flashing a rom, if there was a WWE ship out there, it'd be on it right now mate cus this Orange rom is garbage. Sadly, to my knowledge, there isn't one available... or is there?

Can you do me a small favor?
Go to start->settings->system and turn off error reporting.
Tell me if you get the same problem again but this time without the error post.
