"usb to pc" settings cannot be opened - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

I have a Verizon SMT5800 phone, also known as an HTC LIBR100. I am no longer able to connect via ActiveSync, and, if I try to view the "USB to PC" settings under Connections, I get an error message saying "The settings could not be opened." I suspect that this means that some registry entry has been corrupted. Unfortunately, restoring from Sprite Software backups has not solved the problem. Am I going to have to hard-reset the phone, or is there a less drastic way to get these settings back into working order?

Activesync connection wizard will not start

Hello all... I'm a total newbie to Windows Mobile and this site. Hopefully I've found the right place to post this. I have Win XP SP2 with activesync 4.5 and HTC touch pro (att fuze). My device connects to the PC fine but ONLY as a guest (tried this with someone else's device as well, same issue). I plugged my device into my co-workwer's PC and the got the option to set up a sync partnership. This option has never appeared on my PC. I've deleted/reinstalled activesync multiple times and tried other suggestions found here (checking & unchecking "advanced network functioality" and "ask about connection type" in USB to PC settings on the device). Prior to all of this I had software called Intelatrac installed on my PC. This is a "task tracking" program which uses activesync to connect to a Windows Mobile PDA device. I don't use this software in my current job so I uninstalled it. Somthing in the Intelatrac/Active sync set up is possibly the issue. I've connencted multiple devices to my PC and to another PC which has Intelatrac. NEVER is there an option to set up a partnership. Only guest connections automatically occur. All menu options in activesync except for "connection settings" are "grayed out" ("Syncronize", "Mobile Device", "Delete Moblie Device"). Any ideas what to look for? I have tried my IT department for the past month but have yet to find anyone who has a clue. Sorry for the long description.

Actually, long descriptions are best to identify problems
This is just a suggestion, but maybe this Intelatrac software left something in the registry that is being used by ActiveSync. My advise to you would be to first uninstall ActiveSync and then look for entries for this program in the registry and delete them if you find them. You could use autoruns to see if there are any processes/dll loading that shouldn't be there in the first place as well. Hope this helps...
Thanks for the reply... a problem with something left in the registry is exactly what I thought might be the problem. This being my PC at work, I don't have authorization to even look at the registry let alone edit it. Only our IT "help" desk group can don that . Through unofficial channels I got access and found that there are at least 20 references to "Intelatrac" left in the registry. If I can ever get these folks to look at the problem I'll report on the results. Thanks again!

How to restore the default Active Sync - Disk Drive - Internet sharing screen

Some how I must have clicked on the "Don Not Ask Me Again" box on the USB connection screen. Now I have to manually go to the "settings" - "connections"- "USB to PC" in order to change from active sync to disk drive. I have the Ask me first box checked but no luck.
Any ideas?
BTW, I did try the search function and I am running the new HTC Fuze stock Rom.
Many thanks to all!
reset the phone , if that doesn't work hard reset the phone . with something like this unless you know the registry (which would take quite awhile to find) you can't fix it unless you reset the phone.
Yeah, usually all you have to do is check mark that in the settings. It happened to me once too, and I couldn't change it. So I had to hard reset.
I have the same problem. Someone must have figured it out already!
I would try changing it in the registry:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"DisablePopUpUI"=dword:00000000
You want it to be 0.
resetting activesync default start up choice
Thank you Farmer Ted! Been struggling years with this type of problem, including doing hard resets... Your simple registry solution does the trick.

Can't connect to activesync anymore

I am running WM 6.1 (Michyprima Full) and I wanted to flash to another ROM, however for some reason my phone will no longer connect to activesync on the desktop (tried two pcs). It can sync just fine via exchange.
Nothing has changed on the mobile device or the desktop; ActiveSync on the mobile device is set to allow connection via USB and activesync on the desktops is set to use USB to sync.
I know the underlying connection is ok because the device will start charging from the USB cable when it is hooked up.
What can I do to fix this situation so I can flash to a new ROM? I do not need to save anything on the device... I have tried soft-resetting.
EDIT: Also when I list USB connected devices on the desktop PC, I see one called "Windows Mobile-based Device"
did you use a ram cleaner
i used a ram cleaner and my device dosent get recognised by pc.let me know if you find a solution.

Have you tied going to Start/Settings/System (or Connections) and running USB to PC? Try unchecking 'Enable enhanced network' then OK back to the start screen and try reconnecting.
If that doesn't work, try a hard reset with the current ROM, and see if that fixes it. If so, you can then flash the new ROM.
If it still doesn't work, I think you can flash using a memory card or the Flash Drive without needing to access the PC.

Have you tried completely uninstalling ActiveSync from your computer, reboot, download and re-install ActiveSync. Its worked for me - sometimes the USB drivers become corrupt.
When I try and hit ok to commit the change of unchecking the advanced network functionality (it was checked before), the device just sits there with the spinning thinking wheel. Doing a soft reset and going back into the usb to pc shows the box still checked.
I will try a hard reset.

I think thats the only answer at present- the inability to change the A/S settings on the device suggest something's got corrupted somewhere
I was able to get it to sync after a hard reset.
However, when I attempted to load Michy's light ROM the device rebooted and sat at "Loading..." with a white screen. The wrapper then said error connection failed.
If I soft reset the device it comes back to the loading... screen; if I hard reset the device, it comes back to the loading screen after the hard reset. How can I fix this?
blast. left the stupid sd card in while i did the first flashing.
Removed SD card, re-hard resetted, then re-ran the ROM updater.
Sometimes its OK, sometimes it isn't- just one of those little mysteries I guess!
Glad its OK now. Michy's Lite ROM is excellent
Solution for deleted active sync notification called replog
YES...you guys definitely ERASED your Active sync NOTIFICATION file called replog. As someone suggested...he ran his CLEANER...then the problem begun.
It is true that Hard Reseting the device will get you back that file, but there is an easy way to do it...I can't find the original article but this file I will post will RE-CREATE that deleted replog notification file that is needed by active sync to work.
So next time you try and clean-up...just make sure you won't delete any file named replog
To use this FIX, just place it on your SD Card and run the file. If you want you can create an icon at Windows>Start Menu>Programs>to whatever folder... that will work too for easy access.
Just a word of caution...DON'T RUN THE FILE MORE THAN ONCE...why? Because it will re-create the file again. Although it won't hurt in any way except eat up internal memory, but you don't want any duplicated file... right?

Can someone please help me? no USB, unrecognized unknown device, etc

I've asked before but haven't come across anything that helps. My Fuze, with hardspl and the olipro unlocker and a 6.5 rom (TAEL) now doesn't show up on USB. I get the USB Device Not Recognized error with a listing of Unknown Device in the detail window. Cycling the high speed USB resets the connection but does not resolve the error. My old Tilt works fine on the desktop and on the laptop. The Fuze does not work on either. I was unable to replace the serialUSBfn.dll file even with Total Commander as the file seems to be in use. I hard reset the device and finally reflashed the phone by SD in an attempt to replace the file. This wiped my associations in ActiveSync so I can't sync or for that matter set up the phone for the first time over BT.
I also tried to get it to be available from the bootloader with no success.
I've checked the USB contacts on the phone, reset the power on the device and the PC, etc. I've found many tips but none that have helped.
So, my questions are, in no particular order are:
(1) is there a code element that is passed to the PC upon USB connection that I need to replace, such as a bootloader? Can this be done by SD flashing?
(2) If this is hardware problem and USB is dead, can my contacts be loaded in a single action by a data file import by email or SD?
(3) Can BT be used for an initial sync through any unusual process?
(4) Should I re-run hardSPL or the Olipro unlocker to reset anything?
(5) Does anyone have any other suggestions?
(6) Is this a dead phone that need to go somewhere for service?

When you attempt bootloader mode does USB show up on the tricolour screen?
bootloader now shows serial, not usb
since I attempted to set it up on BT to try to sync it that way, it now says serial, and in fact the mobile device shows up on My Compuer and I can see all folders and so on. If it matters, the SIM is out in the Tilt at present. Prior to setting up BT pairing it had been showing USB.
with usb cable attached, bootloader mode says nothing. pulling the cable in bootloader mode, it then shows serial.
These problems started after I set Activesync to exchange mode: does this change a hardware setting that is not reset by flashing or pulling the battery?
Not sure if it will help.
If you can I would rerun Hard SPL and Olipro. That is where I would go. I am no expert but hey, no one else is responding.

Try another USB cable.
Have you ever flashed w/ microSD? See how 2 do it in the first threads in this forum...
Try this procedures:
1st - HSPL;
2nd - Stock ROM;
3rd - Cooked ROM...
Hard Reset after each step
See if it worked
try to go to settings>connections> USB to PC; then uncheck (Enable advanced network functionalty).
then try again.
I've tried multiple cables and have changed the settings
as I say in the post.

[Q] Error 129 (HELP PLEASE)

I have been receiving an error code 129 on my Touch Pro 2 (Sprint) for sometime now. I finally brought it into Sprint and they WIPED my phone and said it was a software issue. 3 days later the same error message. I brought it back to Sprint and they gave me a brand new TP2. 4 days later I am still receiving the same error message (on my new phone). I brought it back to Sprint today and low and behold they WIPED my phone again, this time they did not put anything back on it, no contacts, no nothing. When I asked them what was wrong this time they said and I quote "DO NOT SINK IT WITH YOUR PC", HUH seriously, I have a WM phone and a Windows PC and I can't sink my phone. They recommended to put everything back on manually and see if the error happens again.
I am going CRAZY. Anyone ever see this before? Its NOT a text message I am receiving, its an actual ERROR, it appears on the top tool bar as and "!" sigh, when I click on it is says Error 129. When I get the error I can not make calls, send text or get on the Net. I have to reboot my phone to use it. Then when I reboot I have noticed my family gets repeated text messages. And once I get the error it comes back constantly.
Any help would be appreciated. THANK YOU!!

If you're experiencing the 129 data connection error, try calling advanced tech support and have them rebuild/refresh your network settings and see if it fixes you. I'm baffled as to the why part.
In any case, I found a listing of all the Sprint error codes and what really catches my eye is the fact it says this:
Error Codes - RFC 2002 (129) 129 Administratively Prohibited Mobile should display "Unknown error. Sign in failed. Please try again. If the problem persists, turn your phone off then turn it on again."
Maybe wherever you were with your phone Sprint wasn't letting you use the net at that time.
I also found the following info you may want to try:
Go to www.sprint.com and log in to your account.
Under My Sprint, click on the Settings and Password link.
Under Account Admin Tools, click "wireless web access."
Make sure your phone number IS NOT CHECKED on this page. If it is by chance, your data has been "shut off."
You may want to check it, save it, and then uncheck it. It could cause something to "refresh."
Also, check Settings -> Connections Tab -> connections -> under Sprint click on "Manage existing connections" and make sure your "sprint #777" is there.
If not, settings are as follows:
Name of Connection : Sprint
Model : Cellular LIne
Number to be dialed #777
Username/Password/Domain are blank
Advanced - Use server-assigned IP address is checked (on both tabs)
Use Slip is UNCHECKED
Use Software compression is CHECKED
Use IP Header compress is CHECKED
You need to soft reset after adding.
Other things to try:
Also make sure your data connection is "on" in the comm manager. I know that is a duh, but who knows.
Start > Settings > System Tab > Update Profile
Phone Dialer > Menu > Options > Services tab > Internet > Get Settings
If you're feeling ambitious with that one, you could then initiate custom NAI entry to device (client-initiated IOTA) by taping start.
That's about as much as I could turn up. I hope something works for you.
