I am currently using 1.64.08.21 and I find the battery drains very quickly with only average usage. I have turned beam off, but I like having HSDPA enabled, it certainly drians faster than the standard O2 radio rom version.
Does anyone have any experience with them on O2 in the uk.
NB, I am on Duttys latest, which is a brilliant rom.

I am using Radio version 1.64.06.04 with the latest ROM and battery usage is very reasonable. Like you, I have HSDPA enabled on the o2 network. I hope this helps.

i am using 1.58.21.23, seems to be ok.
I second that.
Good reception and amazing speed & battery life.
Thanks chaps, I will give the others a try.
hey, im using 1.58.26.20 at the moment. reception is pretty good here, always got hsdpa on BUT it does drain the battery quite a bit.
will try the other radio - cant remember the numbers - if its got good reception and batt reviews..
thanks lads..
:S
does anyone else get an error (204) when trying to flash the radio rom back in the last step. Also do i need to flash a radio rom onto my phone because everything works fine on my pone. your thoughts please.

Not to be a jerk..
But there are already about 10 threads discussing different radio's. I know this question is address UK specific, but I would just try them all out and see what works best for you.

I just finish to download the new radio version for our devices. I can not tell you my impressions about the new radio version, but you can download in Wiki, placed on a folder.
couple of questions on the Radio ROM
1. It looks like it is a G4 Radio ROM. Will it work on the G3 version? If not, where can I find the latest Radio ROM for the G3 version?
2. Does it enable Blackberry Connect support on the Prophet by any chance?
Thanks.
Isn't this the Radio ROM from the Wizard? There is a topic in the Prophet part of the forum that discusses this..
I thought the latest original Radio version for the Prophet was 2.30.21.
I also tried the 2.47.11 on my Prophet. Reception was better, but battery life was drammatic
Wizard, Tornado, Prophet, Oxygen, Artemis, Excalibur:
all these models are based on pretty much same platform.
Latest Radio ( GSM firmaware) for these devices that I am aware of is:
GSM 2.67.90
Just thought that I will let you this know.
Yes I noticed that the reception is much better but at cost of the battery duration. Let me still making more tests about these new Radio.
my radio rom is 2.19.21 how and and how I would get the newst stable?q
The cost is very expensive, at least for me. Just one night, without calls, or touch the Prophet full charge and in the morning the batery meter is almost 26 % less !!!!!!!! Guauuuuu! is to much, you don't think so?
Let me still testing.
Yeah, I already tried this radio rom on my S200 and it drains a lot of batt. I don't recommend it to anyone...
I revert to the other radio rom that is floating around here, but I think that also drains a little more that the official ones....
so which radio rom version we/I should use? And where can I download?
I foud something is not right. When I like to turn the device on, (right button) to make a call phone or make a consult or whatever, the device is dead, so I have to make a soft reset. That's pass me very often, so I decide to revert to other radio version, I mean, to 02.30.21.
My impression about this Radio Version:
Pros: Better signal in all aspect.
Contra: Battery duration, inestable.
So, end of my private testing.
ok. this is something that I would like to check:
The standby mode power consumption is 21mA which it doesn't meet the spec.(but if pressing the key lock into
standby mode, the power consumption is 2.1mA.)
please keep your keypad locked at all the time and see if that will improve battery life.
I wish that I could explain better
this should be valid for all devices with this radio. not only for wizard.
Thanks.

Hello,
I use a prophet whith an older radio 02.30.11.
Do you mean that when you lock the keyboard from the today plugin, the consumption is less?
I tried it today for the whole day and now I have 80% from 100% this morning which is very good! Is it because of the locking?
edit: BTW, how did you measure your consumption?
I tested this radio ROM long time ago when it was first posted here. But I changed back to 02.30.21 after one day.
It was a terrible experience, the device automatically reset during conversations very often. One day, I had to reset the prophet for more than 10 times!!!!!
So, I went back to 02.30.21 right away. And I also warned others not to install this radio ROM in this forum, too. I can not believe you guys are still so brave to take the risk.
@andrew_sh
Do you mean that when you lock the keyboard from the today plugin, the consumption is less?
Yes, that is correct. this bug present in 02.47.xx radio and is fixed in later radios.

Good! I have same result on all my test devices.

I have not meassured it myself. Information in bold is per ... technical documentation

You can find that Radio ROM on the FTP Or use the search...
hi currently im using lvsw prophet 220734 rom.im new to ppc .is the rom im using good enough?
and any applications to make battery drain little low.tips pls? thank you all.
Google for Battery Status or OPAMScaler both reduce Clock of the CPU. This save a lot Power. Read wiki.
@parmghali
better you google for OMAPscaler
I use LvsW ROM the one with 8mb pool page. Good performance and the most accurated compsuption i've tested. I have tried among smarts, true, jesterz, shipping roms... i think this one is the one to keep.
Every radio rom past 2.19 gives me low battery time.
I'm using now 2.19.21 with AKU 2.3. AKU 2.3 solved the problem about "home service" on the current network. 2.19.21 solved the problem where the phone was always registering with the GSM netowrk, draining the battery very quickly.
I went from 1 day and a half using 2.61.21 and 2.69.21 radios @aku2.2 to three and a half days of battery time with 2.19.21 [email protected] aku2.3.
me too.
2.19.21 is the best choice for my Prophet (Qtek-ROM 2.20), long standyby and no problems with gprs.
I've been a WM user for years, I had the same issue when I upgraded my Axim X50V to WM5.
I've been upgrading to almost every single ROM posted here.
After 100s of crashes, battery drains, radio problems... switched back to WM5, cuz i was unreachable all the time.
Is there any ROM worth trying? no battery/memory drain, no radio issues and no crashes?
Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Try Jwrightmcps Crossbow Rom 2.12.08 WWE which I am using on my Qtek 9000 since it was released on 12/16/2008. I think his rom is the best. I am very satisfied with his rom. I am waiting for his next rom release that supports 128mb of ram since I had my device recently upgraded from 64mb to 128mb of ram by PocketPCTechs.

Thought: The problem's not the ROMs, it's something on your side.
I didn't try many ROMs and with one or two I had stability issues. With the 1.18 radio I had several radio crashes, but most certainly due to a weak battery. With 1.17 none of that. I also didn't have any issues with stability using a WM 6.0 version of thingonaspring's one and I don't have them with Ranju's 7.1 WM 6.1.
Idea: Possibly your problems have something to do with your battery or some software you use, that doesn't work all that good under WM 6.
Suggestion: Check that
Thanks for the quick replay guys,
I tried Jwrightmcps's and Ranju's ROMs, they were two of my favorites, I had some issues with Radio and battery, I decided that i'll buy a new battery and switched back to WM5 until my battery arrives.
Somehow, everything is very stable with WM5, I even canceled my battery order.
I'm pretty sure it's not software related, cuz I even tried ROMs without any additional software, I switched between radio ROMs looking for something that plays well with my service provider.
Do you guys think it's worth trying?

You gotta answer this for yourself. This depends on the benefits you get from WM6\6.1 and how intense the effort you put into this is. And especially the latter one is something we can't even estimate.
I'm usually the first to spend his free time fiddling around with some technical details without any real needs and I just can't help doing so. So I'd certainly try. My wife's just the opposite, so she would (most certainly) not
About the radios, what's your proider and where do you live?
I can't help you much with this, but at least for Germany most people are satisfied with the 1.17 and claim to have better signal or battery life. But sometimes I wonder if most of this isn't just mambo-jambo. Nobody seems to really know what's really different between the radios and I can imagine that many fall for some placebo and the rest is just experiencing "random" changes, not structural benefits of changed algorithms.
Settling for the version your provider distributes seems to be reasonable choice if you don't want to experiment yourself.

-they have same
RADIO=1.18

in short identical UNI..
Same here some time ago.
Solution: My RSS-feed-reader tried to connect every 5-10 minutes. Even the Uni was closed. So the batts were empty in about 1 day.
Maybe you have a programm like mine...

thanks for your help CHOSEN_ONE....but the programs i have on my two uni were all stock or i should say pre-installed software from luca's rom...and i think none on its programs or software are draining my battery fast..it so happen that only on that specific uni it drains fast...but the other it last more than a day..
experimental solution
1. ive downgraded my radio from 1.18 to 1.11
2. configured activesync option for server connection..ive switched the connection manually under the schedule option..
as a result it somehow slows down the draining time..but it is still under observation..i will just post here my findings as soon as i get some good results..
thanks for all those who helped me out so far..

Radio definitely one important point for Battery, second is the band wide 3G/GPRS. Setting your uni to 3G will sure use more power. The age of the hardware (screen, and others) may also effect your power consumtion.. I dont remembr but here in this forum is a tool to check power consumtion per mA..you may look in to that

im also using the GSM band not the 3G/UMTS (not using 3G eversince)

I've been following the battery drain issue with ARHD, and I've tried changing kernels from the stock Faux, to Faux123 0.2.4.r, Bricked 1.5 and even Bricked 1.4r. None of these has fixed the drain problem for me.
When I look at Battery Monitor Widget, it shows between 100mA to 150mA when the phone is sleeping, so I'm pretty sure this is where the drain is coming from. Is it the rom or a "rogue app?" I turned off wifi, mobile, gps, bluetooth, etc. and the drain stayed at the same level while the phone was sleeping. What can I do to find out what the problem is?

yup am in a similar boat, would love to know the answer
Do you use facebook etc. How often does is sync? Do you have IM programs running such as Meebo or anything of that nature? What is your brightness at (hopefully not Auto). Does your radio get good signal (Menu > Settings > About > Battery > Battery Use > Click picture of battery drainage up top and is the phone signal section green, etc)
There are many things that can factor into this.
I do not use facebook, I have sync turned off, and I also have wifi, mobile, gps, and bluetooth off. For brightness I use the dimmer app, so it is on its lowest setting. Taking your advice, I looked at my radio signal, and using the recommended radio for ARHD, it showed the radio was not green but grey.
So I reflashed the radio to the one in your signature, and now that bar is yellow. I'll monitor this and let you know if this fixes the problem. Is the radio supposed to be green? Is there another radio I should try if this doesn't work?

Make sure you flash the matching RIL files to match the radio (when you do this in Clockwork Mod or 4Ext mount /system first before flashing the zip) to give best radio signal.
Green means you are getting good signal, yellow means decent, red is awful. Grey I honestly have no clue.
Different radios give different results for different people. I am not sure where you live to know the best radio to suggest but any changes make sure you match the RILs for that radio.
@ Kohr-Ah
where do you get the matching RIL's from ?
say I tried a different radio on my phone, just to try to get a decent usage from my battery, where does the RIL come into the equation ? what exactly is a RIL and what doe it do ?
Oh, I'm in the UK so if you have a good radio suggestion that I could use on the O2 network, feel free to let me know
Same here, sometimes it gets as low as 40mA but just stay like that for 2 minutes then it's back at between 90-180mA in sleep mode. I'm on ARHD 3.6.5 with Bricked 1.5... Stock gave me about 2 1/2 day of normal use, now I'm down at about 10-12h... Seems to me it's a ARHD problem and not Kernel cause I tried a few Kernels as well.
How about giving the stock kernel a try? Along with what everyone else is saying of course.

Matching RILS (Just match to the radio you just installed)
MUST MOUNT /SYSTEM before you flash. Otherwise they don't install.

That explains what the Radio Interface Layer is and does. Basically communicated the radio portion and telephony portion of your phone (if you don't want to read a techinical site)

I've had a good experience so far (in terms of both battery life and data reception) with the 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M radio and HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ. I tried the XE radio before that (10.15.9035.02_2 and HTC-RIL 2.2.0173HMQ), and it was also pretty good, but it seems like battery life and data reception is a bit better with the first radio+ril I pointed out.

Cause stock can't record calls... But I'll try that for test purposes and post the result here. I'm also going to try a different radio and perhaps a different ROM (maybe both Stock and cooked).
I installed Faux 014 last night and it worked really good (50-55mA in sleep) until I sent a text, after that it was back to "fake' sleep mode with 90-180mA. I guess this can still be Radio, ROM or Kernel... The search continues.

I have the same problem with both faux as bricked kernels. I never had this problem until I recently upgraded the ROM.
In sleep mode it takes about 6% battery per hour, with background sync off this is reduced to 4 - 5%. I usually lost about 1% and 2% max when it was sleeping. Didnt install anything new... And this is on my Anker 1900mAh battery. I really dont want to know how fast it will burn through my stock battery

Ok, I'll wait 3 charges and report back. During say when you first flash a new kernel, have you looked at the battery monitor app to see the drain? Like I've been saying, when the phone is asleep its draining over 100mA when this should be around 20mA or so. What could be the cause?
