Cooking Guides for the Ultimate Noobs- Screencasts - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I don't want to double post, so my previous one can be deleted.
I'm a noob just like you all and as easy as the written directions are, its always nice to get a little more help. So I made these screencasts to help you out. I wanted to start fresh, since I'm kind of past the trial run period. Click on the pictures to view the screencasts are below (if there is a serious error, let me know):
Setting UP Your Kitchen (22.4 MB)
Cooking (61.5 MB)
Dumping Your ROM (51.3 MB)
Rebuilding Your ROM (22.3 MB)

Converting an CAB to a Package (33.3 MB)

Remeber folks that I'm a noob too, so I may not be able to answer all of the questions you may have about specifics. The videos should help you get the general gist of the process and it should make you less scared of cooking your own ROM.
REMEMBER TO HARDSPL YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOU FLASH YOUR PHONE WITH A COOKED ROM.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO YOUR PHONE.

Alex!!!
Add this to the sticky in the 1st page or put it in the WIKI!
Nice work my man...nice work indeed!

Thanks! for this i really needed this Ultimate noob thanks you

Thanx for the info, but how about converting an OEM package into a CAB? Would be nice too.

Thanks. Great idea and Great job. Finished the first one and d/l'ing the rest.

And, important too: HARDRESETyour phone AFTER you flashed it!!!

Wow, thanks Doctajay for spending the time to make these great screencasts. I haven't had a chance to view all the videos yet, but I do have quite a few critiques because, as an observant mod noticed, most ROM chefs are perfectionists I'll keep them to myself until I have the time to either make easier to use kitchen or my own video tutorials or both...
In the meantime, I've added it to the ROM cooking section. I'd add it to the sticky too, but as mentioned in yet another thread, we're at our 10,000 character post maximum, so we're out of space, unless a mod adds another post to that thread...
Thanks again!

DEFINITELY A STICKY!!!!! Great work. Good to see the time spent to help everyone out!!! Thank you

Lol, I understand man. I actually look forward to your critiques because it might point out the small mistake I'm making that is prevent me from cooking but that lets everyone else do it. (It might just be that my PC is cursed ). Anyway, thank you for your guidance!

excellent.. excellent!!
Now I have a little more direction since i'm a n00b as pure as they come haha.
Thank you very much this is very helpful!

Wow Doctajay!
Thanks for taking the time to create these instructions to accompany the Alex cooking wiki. It is great that you offer this to the community, it must have taken a lot of time to create.
Pictures are worth a thousand words of thanks to you from all the future Kaiser Rom cookers!

No problem guys. Alex really deserves alot of the credit. I just turned his words into video.
I wanted to tell you all that if you want to download the files I used in the tutorial, you can download them also on my website. they are the older v5.1 though, so if you want the current v5.2 that Alex uploaded, you need to get it from the wiki. Here is my site URL:
http://xdadev.doctajay.com/?page_id=5

now if someone can upload these to youtube or google video so we can stream instead of download, that'll be great.

a little addition you could have added is setting the folders to show system files so they can see the rgu files. I made that mistake before.

NICE
Love it Nice
So easy a cave man cab do it

Very good point. I think I had done that before, but I didn't mention that I had done that. Definitely follow what thomasster said!!!

Great work!
Thanks for the help

I just got my new TyTn today, so I started browsing the Hermes forum and grabbed a base OS to start playing with. I wasn't overly pleased with what i was seeing. Pride and ego seem to be the prevailant theme, and I hope it never infects this group.
It reminded me that I want to thank everyone for being excellent contributers. I've found nearly everyone curtious and very helpful . On a scale of 1 to 10, I rank this forum as a 9+. I can't say the same for others
I'll still maintain the Kitchen thread, though I'll have to rely on input for the OS improvements since I won't have any hardware to flash. Hopefully it's nearly done. If there's a big issue, feel free to PM me if an needed.
*sigh* Is a faster phone worth it? Damn, I hope so...
Are you keeping your wizard? I did and tradee off every day.
Already have a buyer - gotta offset the cost of the new toy
Hey Matt, thanks for all of your hard work on the ROMS and kitchens and good luck with the new phone.

Regarding the Hermes forum...i think that as long as you don't ask any questions at all, and know a little bit of this and that...it could be pretty funny...in a sick sadistic way
Considering you own a hermes now...maybe you want to take a look at my Hermes kitchen and suggest a few changes .. considering i don't have one...and some people reported errors...some didn't so i wouldn't know what's wrong or how to improve it.

That wizard of you must of worth a fortune... like a Stradivarius violin
It`s the device that made the superb kitchen possible and solved us endless bugs...
It should of been sold as chef mattk`s device not like just another wizard.
Thank You for your contribution, i am amazed how much work you did.
YOU did bring us closer, because you shared everything you made this forum so much better.
Thank You again!

It is the Core kitchen adapted for the Hermes...a little step more advanced.
The latest is the Artemis Core Kitchen..which is the more advanced(couple of bug fixed and some remakes)...and i will have to make one that will work for all (well..not all but most....you know what i mean).
BTW...you're lucky ...i want a hermes too
Have fun with your new toy
i flashed a hermes for a buddy yesteday and must say the process was alot longer but not all that difficult. there are some nice roms out for the hermes, but i agree that forums there are almost worse than what they were here last year when some of the wizard chefs were leaving
Ditto on thanks for all your hard work and patience with people. I also have a Hermes so will see you on the other side...
I agree, it's WAS bit more of a process. BUT - I already have it to where there's LESS steps to cook and flash a Hermes than the way the bepe based kitchens do And it's only my first few hours playing
Congrats on the new phone, matt. Sorry to lose a good cook.. Thanks for all the help... Still see you around though as I browse all forums to see all the gadgets here...
Hey Matt, thank you for all the hard work and personal time you spent to bring good ROM's and kitchens here. I have been using Pandora v3.2 since 6/22 and haven't had a need need or much of a desire to flash another ROM.
Enjoy your new toy.
Sorry to see you go...
Congratulations on the new Hermes. Thanks for all you have done to this part of the forum. Good luck cooking for those lucky Hermes people who now have a great person with them!
Hey Matt....sorry to see you go also
I switch to at&t a month a go and I've been using my Blackjack. I didn't think I was gonna like it but its working out really well. WM5 , Quick and reliable though .
My next device is that Kaiser...I initially wanted the Tytn but decided to wait.
I'm selling my device cuz I'm a flash junky.
Thanks for the ROMz and hard work.
You've been great to deal with .... see ya around the forum.
Thanks Matt
Man,
Now I have to get a Hermes.
Anyways thanks for all the great input and help. But please do stop by once in a while to check up on things.

I Want CLEAR WM6.1 ROM

Hello everybody. i'm sick of all theese ROM's with a lot of programs. I want CLEAR WM6.1 ROM.
Please give me some link for G4 phone.
Thanks.
Try SEARCH
I don't want what phrase to write as search string ?
You have lots of ROMS in this forum, and you want that somebody does a quite simple thing for you
Read
Quite easy.........
the cleanest rom you can have is the one you cook for your self... but then again, you may as well just use wm5 ass just about all of the new features that distinguish 6 and 6.1 are cooked into the oem. camera and mms is also an addon.
maybe you would have better luck if you actualy listed the features you wanted instead of the ones you didnt.
or better yet, learn to cook one, then you would understand how it works, and wouldnt ask for something like that.
all of the cooks on this forum try to cook the best rom. and the fact that you insult their cooking doesnt help. You dont go into a restaraunt asking for a raw piece of meat on a plate and then eat it; do you?!

Amazing you are can read
just wait till he realizes that he could have a well cooked his own 209 or 588 rom as easy as cut and paste, well, maybe not 588... Does anyone remember Faria?
Oh, and another thing: When I got to this country, "please" and "thank you" were not the first words they tried to teach me in school; it was "**** You". Luckily, I learned the pleasantries of "please" and "thank you" before I got here.
AnTo, you should start saying these things when you make requests. otherwize it seems like you are making angry demands.

i remember a song from Amy Winehouse - Help Yourself
"I can't help you if you won't help yourself

Request: Custom Rom (I did try...)

Yeah, yeah.... If at first you dont succeed, try, try again....
I did that... and again, I did that, and again...
While to MANY of the great chefs in this forum have absolutely no trouble cooking up roms, changing XIP's and SYS files, and after their long and tedious trial and errors, have learned the WAYS of the cook.
I SALUTE You!
So, here is my request... I know I will most likely be flamed... But if there is one cook willing to make a custom rom for me, I would be very appreciative...
Believe me, Having to ask for one rather than cook it myself is the last thing I wanted to do.. but I have edited .RGU files, and PROVXML files, and InitFlashData files till I cant see straight! Its not that I dont know what Im doing, its just that I dont know enough. Even through all the searches, and all the posts, and all the file comparisons of all the roms both Official and UnOfficial, I dont know enough and admit defeat.
I recently flashed a friends Vogue/Touch with this rom
http://www.stevesdesigns.net/xda/sprintv296.rar
It has an AWSOME dial pad. comes loaded with Voice Command, and S2U2 with nice animations. I have moved the packages found in the SYS folder to my base rom which is the HTC Kaiser Release 3.28.405. Ive moded the InitFlashData file in the OEM_Lang_0409 folder to include the needed file operations, but with all that and various stages, I cannot get a complete port.
Please, If someone would be willing to port this rom from the Vogue to the Kaiser, I would be very grateful, and willing to make a donation to the Chef that does this.
There is one request, do not port over the Wisbar Advance folder. It is registered to DHarvey, the maker of the original rom and it is only to be used with that rom.. He recieved special permission from Lakeridge Software to use it in that rom only. I do have my own keys for the complete Wisbar Package. If you do want to port it, I can let you know my keys only to be used in this rom. (assuming there is a chef out there that will do this for me)
If not, I at least had to ask....
Thank you for taking the time to read this. And Thank You to ALL the Chefs out there... I now know what you guys do for this forum and how hard you work to produce these wonderful roms...
Steve P.
lol yeah ur getting flamed cuz there is a thread and the cooks name is kareem
I am aware of his post, but I did want to make a new post only to put the broadcast out to ALL the chefs, not just Kareem.
Oh ok u might wanna just pm the different chefs im sure u know who they are
I have just finished cooking all 4 of my ROMs (Official REVROM). I will be going back to the Requests thread and there are a few on the queque list (bilbobrian and a couple more) and i'll get to that asap (uploading roms now).
Thank you Kareem... I made this post, only because I knew you were in the business of making custom roms for others, and I wasnt sure how much you had on your plate. So I wanted to put the request out to all the chefs.
I really didnt want to look like another "noob" asking for handouts... I know Im only still a "Junior" member, but thats only because I do spend more time searching and reading rather than posting.
Yes, I am. I had a lot more time in the summer (since I was off), but now that i have school, time is really limited but i really do try my best to get the thread (i even put it in front of homewokr which is ethically wrong, but i still do it for some reason [like now, i have homework but i made my ROMs first and then went to the homework]).

Cooking for the Kaiser?

Hey, one of my friends wants me to put WM6.5 on their Kaiser for them, and i'd like to cook up her own custom ROM for it if i can, but i have NO clue how to. Can anyone point me to a good tutorial and tools or explain how to do this for me? I really do enjoy doing stuff like this, and i'm a pretty fast learner, so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge for me.... i hope
Thanks in advance
Might be a good idea to read the first page of Kaiser ROM forum as you will find what your looking for.....
Also WIKI is a good source of information...
No need to make a new thread.

So you think that you are ready to cook a rom, but you can't even do a simple search of one page ?

Hmmm.... i feel smart lol
Anyway, thanks, i skimmed through and didn't see anything... guess that's what i get for skimming lol
Download JoshKoss and TPC noob kicthen and play with it. Cooking is not a simple process! It all comes through reading, flashing and some programming knowledge! If you do not have any clue about WM devices, then you are better off looking for a cooked ROM. Just my two cents!
I have an LG Incite myself, and i love to play around with stuff, i just odn't have a CLUE about HTC devices lol

Question about buidling a ROM

Are there any sites that explain in detail how to build an Andriod ROM, I've googled it, but nothing of any relavence. I want to learn how to build one.
interesting as well. Waiting some BIG guy to give a guide.
It would be nice, Maybe like a complete kitchen ala WM.
Former WinMo ROM builder (Touch Pro) and looking for the same info.
snag JF's 1.51 build environment from here:
http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/24/jfv151-images-are-out/
that will at least point you in the right direction.
you can always modify an existing update.zip and resign it using the testsign.jar tool
i'd love to see a step by step guide as well
A guide would be realy helpful, and greatly appreciated! Been experimenting on my own, but I'd love to see a Ion build enviornment.
Wow, so it looks like we are all making an official request for someone to put together a "Roms for Dummies" or similar..... Who's got the pull to make this happen, lol
there's cyanogenized rogers, a very good sample to start with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524160
I'm a Herald cook, and I would also love to learn this.
Making ROMs for WM devices is so limited, I'm looking forward to this.
This would be awesome... I know just enough to be dangerous... but would rather have some sort of guide to get things going right.
I would have to agree with everyone above me, having some sort of step-by-step guide with a list of necessary tools would be very handy to have. Especially for someone who's just starting out and no idea what certain things do.
I would appreciate some kind of basic tutorial in this direction, too.
I have just been a little confused about how to resign an update.zip if I want to change any files inside of it, and then rezip.
Well.... Lets see if we can't get a Mod to come up with a cool idea of appointing someone who knows what they are doing (i.e. NOT ME), or themselves to collect everyone's pieces, and put them all together into a newb friendly version, and lead up to an advanced version. Talk about really opening the door to new developers. Eh? Whatya think?
I would love to learn too

Ive been on windows for years and its all i know, but i do want to learn how to work on ROM's. I''ve heard that Ubuntu is the easiest to learn coming from a windows environment, please steer me in the right direction if im wrong. I guess illl have to dual boot my laptop to night.
