Hey, one of my friends wants me to put WM6.5 on their Kaiser for them, and i'd like to cook up her own custom ROM for it if i can, but i have NO clue how to. Can anyone point me to a good tutorial and tools or explain how to do this for me? I really do enjoy doing stuff like this, and i'm a pretty fast learner, so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge for me.... i hope
Thanks in advance
Might be a good idea to read the first page of Kaiser ROM forum as you will find what your looking for.....
Also WIKI is a good source of information...
No need to make a new thread.

So you think that you are ready to cook a rom, but you can't even do a simple search of one page ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517957

Hmmm.... i feel smart lol
Anyway, thanks, i skimmed through and didn't see anything... guess that's what i get for skimming lol
Download JoshKoss and TPC noob kicthen and play with it. Cooking is not a simple process! It all comes through reading, flashing and some programming knowledge! If you do not have any clue about WM devices, then you are better off looking for a cooked ROM. Just my two cents!
I have an LG Incite myself, and i love to play around with stuff, i just odn't have a CLUE about HTC devices lol

I'm a noob just like you all and as easy as the written directions are, its always nice to get a little more help. So I made these screencasts to help you out. I wanted to start fresh, since I'm kind of past the trial run period. Click on the pictures to view the screencasts are below (if there is a serious error, let me know):
Setting UP Your Kitchen (22.4 MB)
Cooking (61.5 MB)
Dumping Your ROM (51.3 MB)
Rebuilding Your ROM (22.3 MB)
Converting an CAB to a Package (33.3 MB)
Remeber folks that I'm a noob too, so I may not be able to answer all of the questions you may have about specifics. The videos should help you get the general gist of the process and it should make you less scared of cooking your own ROM.
REMEMBER TO HARDSPL YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOU FLASH YOUR PHONE WITH A COOKED ROM.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO YOUR PHONE.
Alex!!!
Add this to the sticky in the 1st page or put it in the WIKI!
Nice work my man...nice work indeed!
Thanks! for this i really needed this Ultimate noob thanks you
Thanx for the info, but how about converting an OEM package into a CAB? Would be nice too.
Thanks. Great idea and Great job. Finished the first one and d/l'ing the rest.

And, important too: HARDRESETyour phone AFTER you flashed it!!!
Wow, thanks Doctajay for spending the time to make these great screencasts. I haven't had a chance to view all the videos yet, but I do have quite a few critiques because, as an observant mod noticed, most ROM chefs are perfectionists I'll keep them to myself until I have the time to either make easier to use kitchen or my own video tutorials or both...
In the meantime, I've added it to the ROM cooking section. I'd add it to the sticky too, but as mentioned in yet another thread, we're at our 10,000 character post maximum, so we're out of space, unless a mod adds another post to that thread...
Thanks again!
DEFINITELY A STICKY!!!!! Great work. Good to see the time spent to help everyone out!!! Thank you

Lol, I understand man. I actually look forward to your critiques because it might point out the small mistake I'm making that is prevent me from cooking but that lets everyone else do it. (It might just be that my PC is cursed ). Anyway, thank you for your guidance!
excellent.. excellent!!
Now I have a little more direction since i'm a n00b as pure as they come haha.
Thank you very much this is very helpful!
Wow Doctajay!
Thanks for taking the time to create these instructions to accompany the Alex cooking wiki. It is great that you offer this to the community, it must have taken a lot of time to create.
Pictures are worth a thousand words of thanks to you from all the future Kaiser Rom cookers!
No problem guys. Alex really deserves alot of the credit. I just turned his words into video.
I wanted to tell you all that if you want to download the files I used in the tutorial, you can download them also on my website. they are the older v5.1 though, so if you want the current v5.2 that Alex uploaded, you need to get it from the wiki. Here is my site URL:
http://xdadev.doctajay.com/?page_id=5
now if someone can upload these to youtube or google video so we can stream instead of download, that'll be great.
a little addition you could have added is setting the folders to show system files so they can see the rgu files. I made that mistake before.
NICE
Love it Nice
So easy a cave man cab do it

Stay blessed.
I admit it! Im overwhelmed with all the information on this site. I would really appreciate the technical expertice of this helpful community. So far Ive installed HardSPL and im downloading roms from alex, faria, and thinkin about dutty's roms. Im researching on which radio version is the best for me and so far it looks like 1.47.30.10 from DR Puttingham's experience. Im also starting to understand that the best way is really to cook up your own rom but id rather start with a lite or clean version with great looks, speed, functionablitly. Im curious as to why I only see a few people cooking up roms when i know there are better chef's out there like...molski? again...what do i know..im just a noob.
so here i am asking the vast community their opinions of best of...
best chef? (not just for quantity but for quality)
best lite/clean rom?
best full rom?
most useful radio along with your location?
top useful programs?

You know you're never going to get a proper answer to these as everyone has their own preference not mention they aren't gonna say one is better than the other... Why not just try them all and see what you like?
And I think most people don't cook their own ROMs cause:
1) They don't want to learn how to, or
2) They don't have the time, or
3) Somebody else is already doing the hard work (and doing it well..), so why bother?
Personally, I think I'm a combination of the 2nd and 3rd, which therefore makes #1 redundant (for me)..

okay ... first of all you should really think about what you post before you post.
You can't compare the chefs because each one invests there precious time into our community here (WITHOUT COMPENSATION) and does the hardwork for us of making a rom that is better than the piece of **** our carrier shipped us. So in my eyes they are all the greatest and bestest. Choosing a radio is a trial experience you have to find the one you like that best suites your location.
And if you don't like what other chefs are doing get the dumped rom for your carrier and work on it your self.
this by the way is the nicest reply you'll probably get (not unless someone just won the lotto or got laid or is stoned .. .in which case they won't be able to reply ...)

Here are 3 outcomes:
OMG WTF BBQ stupid question

There is no best, only what you think is best.
but most of people have their brains working will either go 1 or 3. So, put on your flame suit and start flashing.

Hello everybody. i'm sick of all theese ROM's with a lot of programs. I want CLEAR WM6.1 ROM.
Please give me some link for G4 phone.
Thanks.
Try SEARCH
I don't want what phrase to write as search string ?
You have lots of ROMS in this forum, and you want that somebody does a quite simple thing for you
Read
Quite easy.........
the cleanest rom you can have is the one you cook for your self... but then again, you may as well just use wm5 ass just about all of the new features that distinguish 6 and 6.1 are cooked into the oem. camera and mms is also an addon.
maybe you would have better luck if you actualy listed the features you wanted instead of the ones you didnt.
or better yet, learn to cook one, then you would understand how it works, and wouldnt ask for something like that.
all of the cooks on this forum try to cook the best rom. and the fact that you insult their cooking doesnt help. You dont go into a restaraunt asking for a raw piece of meat on a plate and then eat it; do you?!

just wait till he realizes that he could have a well cooked his own 209 or 588 rom as easy as cut and paste, well, maybe not 588... Does anyone remember Faria?
Oh, and another thing: When I got to this country, "please" and "thank you" were not the first words they tried to teach me in school; it was "**** You". Luckily, I learned the pleasantries of "please" and "thank you" before I got here.
AnTo, you should start saying these things when you make requests. otherwize it seems like you are making angry demands.

"I can't help you if you won't help yourself
I can't help you if you don't help yourself
Yo can help so, you can only get so much from someone yeah

Hello together,
I want to learn how to cook ROMs for the Herald. Could anybody tell me how to do this? This would be very nice if anybody got the time. I know it's a lot of work, but i want to learn and do something for the forum. I'm really interested in. Thanks.

I gotta remake the whole walkthrough that I had created once. It has changed a LOT since I wrote that... The only person that even remotely knows the way that I currently do it is the author of pepperland.
It's not that hard once you understand the concept...
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to write up the right up at the moment.
Allright, thank u anyway. Some of u got the knowledge and i really want to learn. But it takes a lot of time so i can understand u that u can't teach me at this time. Perhaps someday i can do this, i hope so. I'm sorry if my english is not perfect enough. I know that u do a lot of work for everyone in this forum. I thank u very much for ur ROMS, they r awesome. It's really cool to have WM6.5 on my device
Are there any sites that explain in detail how to build an Andriod ROM, I've googled it, but nothing of any relavence. I want to learn how to build one.
interesting as well. Waiting some BIG guy to give a guide.
It would be nice, Maybe like a complete kitchen ala WM.
Former WinMo ROM builder (Touch Pro) and looking for the same info.
snag JF's 1.51 build environment from here:
http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/24/jfv151-images-are-out/
that will at least point you in the right direction.
you can always modify an existing update.zip and resign it using the testsign.jar tool
i'd love to see a step by step guide as well
A guide would be realy helpful, and greatly appreciated! Been experimenting on my own, but I'd love to see a Ion build enviornment.
Wow, so it looks like we are all making an official request for someone to put together a "Roms for Dummies" or similar..... Who's got the pull to make this happen, lol
there's cyanogenized rogers, a very good sample to start with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524160
I'm a Herald cook, and I would also love to learn this.
Making ROMs for WM devices is so limited, I'm looking forward to this.
This would be awesome... I know just enough to be dangerous... but would rather have some sort of guide to get things going right.
I would have to agree with everyone above me, having some sort of step-by-step guide with a list of necessary tools would be very handy to have. Especially for someone who's just starting out and no idea what certain things do.
I would appreciate some kind of basic tutorial in this direction, too.
I have just been a little confused about how to resign an update.zip if I want to change any files inside of it, and then rezip.
Well.... Lets see if we can't get a Mod to come up with a cool idea of appointing someone who knows what they are doing (i.e. NOT ME), or themselves to collect everyone's pieces, and put them all together into a newb friendly version, and lead up to an advanced version. Talk about really opening the door to new developers. Eh? Whatya think?
I would love to learn too
