IMAP email setup... worked on 6.0 not on 6.1?? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I have a gmail and need to setup account as IMAP... when I go to setup new account it automatically takes settings from internet and there is no option to set up manually, then after setting up its set to pop3 and greyed out unchangeable. Also tried setting it up with the outlook but am not sure of settings, is it only for exchange server??
Any tips here would be appreciated.

Try misspelling the domain (like gmail.comm) and it will let you set it up manually. Then just go back and change the email address once it's all set up.

thanks, you dont know how annoyed I was. seems like it should let you choose to set it up manually from the start.

Yeah...that drove me crazy for a while before I stumbled on it by accident thanks to missing a key press in the domain name

doesnt work. even with the server added again the box stays grayed out
EDIT
found a registry hack in the hklm/securities/policies that worked
but apparently after 24 hours or so it changes itself from 1 to 2 and reverts to wanting a password
guess i will find out
but if anyone knows that would be great
I use an exchange server that requires a PIN, to disable it i set the reg key 00001023 to 1 which is located at HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies
Then go to Start>Settings>System>Lock and remove the lock.
Mine does not reset after 24 hours, but this is prob because the exchange server i connect to only enforces security policy on first connection. May be different for other exchange servers.

ok yeah thats what i changed
good to know it works for you.
thanks
Thanks!!!!
It worked for me let's see if it lasts.
If not, let me know I have a CAB in the office removing this lock.
I did this and it worked. If your server updates everytime it might not work. Or if you delete the server the security setting may not go back to default automatically, so you will still need to change the registry key

Gmail Exhange via ActiveSync; does yours work yet?

As of Oct 16th I am still unable to get solid performance out of Gmail Exchange with ActiveSync.
There are literally hundreds of complaints across the web detailing the same issues I am having but I don't hear people saying much on these forums.
Does your ActiveSync/Exchange Gmail mail work properly? Does it work well? If so what ROM are you using?
nope does not work for me.
i get
the server you are attempting to synchonizw with is either not and exchange server etc.
anyone else??
It's works for me after i changes my user name to [email protected] instead of [email protected]
I'm using touch pro latest official rom.
Yeah you make it [email protected] rather than [email protected]
Mine is working flawlessly. I am running EnergyRom 10/14. I had the biggest pain in the ass of a time trying to set it up a couple weeks ago until I stumbled across a thread somewhere and BLAM!!! it started working.
here is what you need to do.
1.) when you enter your email address in the first step make sure it is all lower case. ie.. [email protected]
2.) make sure you uncheck the option to obtain server info automatically
3.) in the exchange address use m.google.com (case sensitive)
4.) now enter email address in all CAPS ie.. [email protected]
4.1) make sure your password is "exactly" as you would loggin in online. (case sensitive)
5.) make sure that you uncheck "tasks" and "texts" as they are not currently supported by GoogleSync.
5.1) PS> not sure if this helped me but when selecting what I want to sync I went into setting for "email" and change them to this
Download the past---- ALL
Message Format----HTML
Download size limit----Entire Message
Dont check Include file attachments.
6.) Hit finish and watch the magic happen.
Also under "Menu > Schedule" make sure that the Sync During Peak times and Off-Peak time are set to " As items arrive"
Hope this helps!
ALSO!!! make sure that you are already set up on Google Calender!! if not you are going to error out...
There were problems with it a couple of weeks ago, and it stopped working for me. I tried everything I could think of but couldn't get it working again. Then I deleted the account and reinput all settings and lo and behold it started working again and has worked perfectly ever since.

I wasn't using googlemail.com.
When it was first setup, I followed the instructions provided by the Gmail Sync website, everything worked fine.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. My setup was identical to yours (all 15 times I have setup, resetup, etc) but I still have the same issues.
Contacts sync just fine (Confirmation that server address, email address, login info, SSL, etc are setup fine.)
The folders within the pOutlook/Gmail show up but nothing is in my inbox.
I can even send a test message from the phone with the gmail account, receive it at my gmail imap on a laptop or via the web, but not on the phone.
I can see those damn folders and send email, wtf.
Maybe I need to turn off IMAP on the Gmail account?
I was already set up to sync with google calendar, and that worked just fine.
I added my gmail to it, and it got all the messages, and even though I DID have include file attachments, it didn't actually get any attachments, or even show that an attachment was available to click.. so it's basically worthless.
back to checking every 15 minutes I guess.
at least with hotmail you can have it set to as it arrives.
using NFSFANs B13 ROM, gotta update to B14 still

I am using the stock Sprint HTC Touch Pro ROM
There are many bugs and occasional lags of up to a couple of hours. Here are the bugs I have encountered:
Attachments aren't delivered
Calendar does not sync existing items from phone to Google, only ones added
Contacts are missing the category data
Well fixed mine not working. All i changed from the other settings for for it not to sync text messages and tasks and it now works I think !
Mine still doesn't work, no matter what shenanigans I try. I gave up, went back to IMAP, Outlook for contacts and usb/bt sync. I push my contacts to gmail via a silly file once in a while.
Oh well, at least Imap keeps things organized between all my email.
Gmail sync
I tried many different settings, but it kept telling me that there have changes on the server and it needs to start again. The only thing which made a difference, was setting the days to push as 1. It now works flawlessly, and has worked for a complete week. (I did not try syncing folders yet) I use it only for inbox notification, as the reply address cannot be changed to my domain name. So I use imap for sending and Microsoft exchange for notification (or if I dont mind the reply address to state *****@gmail.com

[Q] gmail keeps asking for password help!

Please help! A while ago, i was synchronizing my gmail when wp7 asked me to ipdate and reinput my password. But each time i type in the right password, it says that the password is incorrect! Tried deleteting the account on my phone and putting it back again, still the same. On the browser and also on the desktop, i can log on normally using the same password. Please help
That sounds really strange. I've never had any issues with my gmail accounts.
It sounds like a typo, but since you've tried it several times that may not be the case.
Are you sure you didn't mistype the email address instead of the password?
I know that with the software keyboard, I sometimes hit the key next to the one I want to hit. But I'm sure you already tried typing the password slowly and looking at each letter as you type it.
Yes i'm 100% sure i got them all correct. Tried changing and rechanging the password but still nothing. Also, i tried on my wife's iphone, and it worked perfectly. On the wp7, nothing
Is your Server listed as m.google.com?
Also, did you make sure to check "Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection?
Yes and yes, m.google.com and SSL is checked. Even tried turning my phone off but still nothing
Are you actually using a @gmail.com account, or a corporate account through Google?
i'm using a .gmail.com account. it was working before, but now, nada.
Sounds like a bug.
I heard of someone who experienced something similar. They were able to solve it by connecting to a WiFi network and then setting up their gmail account.
I'm not sure why that solved it for them, but maybe it could help you too.
And it just did. I was connected to 3G when it happened. Connected to my home wifi and it finally accepted my password. Again, i connected to 3G just to confirm it and well ut works now. Thanks for all the help guys. Will drop the wp7 guys an email about this
I just ran into the same issue.
I had changed my gmail password via web interface. then the phone asked for the new password but wouldn't accept it.
I ended up deleting the account on the phone, changing the password at gmail (again) to something different, then readded the account to the phone. In that time period though, I logged onto wifi in order to sync faster.
Would have been nice to have seen this thread earlier...
Gmail on Android persistence challenge credentials bug fix
I found this to be a bug with Gmail account log in failures on Andriod when using 2-step verification. It persistently challenges you for credentials although you have successfully logged into your Google account on another machine via a web browser.
This is the fix I found:
Step 1:
Log into your gmail account on another machine using a web browser.
Go to account settings > 2-step verification > authorising sites > application specific password
Step 2:
generate a password called gmail -android but do not click done.
Step 3:
go to device enter your gmail - andriod application specific password and you will get challenged a further 2-3 times enter the same password (you may have to also enter the CAPTCHA (a security image with distorted letters)).
Step 4:
When you are no longer challenged, try to sync with gmail if you do not get a sign-in error on your device then this has worked and be sure to click done in your your google account settings via your browser on the other machine you used.
Hope this helps to those of you who are suffering from this infuriating Google 2-step verification bug.
Hyp3rzz
I had countless issues with my Gmail account on WM6.x - same as you describe. Would not accept my credentials.
The steps described above solved it for me (having to reset using that captcha thing) but it would keep on re-occuring. Not seen it so far in WP7 though. *touch wood*

[Q] Changed Password, now can't get email on phone

Title says it. I cannot find a way to enter the new password on the phone. It just indicates errors synching, but does not offer to enter a new password, and I cannot find how to change it.
Any suggestions?
If its the gmail account password then your phone should automatically tell you that It can't log in to sync your contacts and what not then ask you for the new password..

It is the GMAIL password, and it is not doing that.
I am getting a message "synch is currently experiencing proglems, and will be bak shortly". Now, maybe that is in fact the case. bit it is quite coincidental that it started immediately after I changed my password online.
....
In fact, I just went in and changed it back to the old password, and it synched fine, so it seems my phone is not operating like you indicate it should.
[EDIT]
You must login to the market. It then asks for the new password, and you are good to go. Cannot do it via GMAIL. Interesting...
[EDIT2]
By the way, it turns out that on that ASUS Tablet, you must do it through GMAIL, not MARKET. Exactly backwords. Go figure...
Lol that's funny. Its been a while sice I messed with it so I couldn't remember

I had tried that. It will not let you because of all the things linked to the account on it. To do that you need to do a factory reset.

Problems with email setup?

I'm not sure if it's a problem with the phone or something else, but I CANNOT setup any email accounts with this phone.
Having used a Captivate, I'm familiar with the process, but whether using the auto setup or inputting the server names/ports directly, all I get it errors.
Any idea WTH is going on?
What do the errors say?

When it tries to go through the auto setup it gives me an error saying Setup Could Not Finish - Username or password incorrect". I KNOW 100% that the username and password are correct (and that I'm entering it correctly) as I'm able to login to my email directly at Cableone.net using the exact same information (and it's been the same for YEARS).
I think it has something to do with the fact that Cableone.net's email is/has switched to GMail and I'm betting there's some confusion there.
[edit]We figured it out - Apparently we had to migrate the email to the Gmail stuff... once we did that, it worked.
Glad you got it working
