xT9 disable - HTC Vox

I just received my Verizon SMT-5800 aka HTC Libra today. There isn't really a section here for us, but the phone is based off of the Vox so I'm making home here. Anyways, is there any way at all to turn off xT9? Every single time I change it back to abc, the second I go to a new text box it reverts automatically back to xT9 which is completely annoying as a input at times.

You should be able to change it by pressing the * [T9] key, and it will remember your preference. Be sure that the keyboard is closed, since some HoFo users reported it wont work if open.
btw, how come there is no separate section for the s720 Libra/5800?

E650 phone

hi friends of the net,
help pleeeease.
when i go into go into calendar i get numbers come up and not letters when the key pad is closed, if i open phone to type on key padi can get the letters, if any numbers have been entered already the numbers do not delete and i have to press the home key and then go back to it again before it lets me write anything, this also happens in internet explorer! after this has happened if i try to access contacts via home page or via menus it does not let me access them.
also my i bar/cursor vanishis sometimes when i am in text messaging.
tried factory reset and it still happens, also had a new phome sent out and the new one does the same!!!! assume its software fault on many phones.
Can you vox owners try these out...
This is regarding my friends phone, member - Wezog. Ive taken a look at the phone and im just wondering if any of you guys out there have these problems?
1 - Make sure your phone is closed (qwerty keyboard is hidden away), using the right soft key or by going into the start menu select the calendar application.
Once in here start typing an appointment, do you find that you have numbers appearing instead of letters?
Its as tho you cannot type any appointments using the keypad, but you have to open up the e650 and use the qwerty keyboard to enter information.
Do you HTC owners get the same problem or is it just the Orange e650 owners, or is it just my friend being unlucky? (being his 2nd phone to do exactly the same thing - hes let orange know about this but apparently has to decide what he wants to do)
2 - Once youve tried the Calendar above, exit out of it and then try and select CONTACTS as tho you were going to call someone either by using the left soft key or by actually going into Contacts in the start menu.
Do you find that Contacts dont display and nothing comes up? My mate has to then soft reset his phone to get things back to normal again.
Thanks in advance for your help, its very appreciated.
Cheers
Could someone try the steps below and post here...please
Would appreciate you guys following the steps below and letting me know if you get the problem, or not. Cheers.

Frankly - actions like creating an appointment is why I chose a phone with a QWERTY keyboard after all
But for the sake of your test I tried to create an appointment on my closed Vox and it worked.
Pressing a pad key repeatedly scrolls through its lowercase letters + the number, starting with the first letter. The *-key switches between lowercase and uppercase.
Contacts open and work normally after closing the Calendar.
I have an unbranded HTC S710 with the original ROM.
The behaviour you describe is definitely weird. And it happens also after a "Clear Storage" / Hard Reset ?

New Dopod C500 user coming from Blackberry 8700

Disclaimer: It's my first Windows phone - I've been a Blackberry user for a few years, and might have been conditioned to using it.
A few impressions: I like the Vox very much. Although it feels a lot slower, it has the small size, has the "normal" phone pads where the 2=ABC, 3=DEF - I missed it a lot on the Blackberry, has WiFi, a 2MP camera (which I doubt I'll use much), and a truly useful Bluetooth (the Blackberry's default profile set is painfully small)
On the other hand, there are a lot of minor things that makes using the Vox a pain compared to the Blackberry...here're my top rants:
1. I've been looking for ways to display the day of week on the home screen. Why MS leaves it out is very baffling.
2. You have to press "unlock" to unlock the phone. On the BB I could just start typing the passwords.
3. Four fixed profiles - I'd like to define new profiles, please. It should be easy?
4. Autotext: I miss tremendously the eagerness of the Blackberry to prevent me from having to hit "shift". Pressing the space can mean a dot, an @ sign, etc. at different places. Pressing and holding a key means capitalizing, double space inserts period, "br" means open bracket, etc.
5. Backspace key on the slideout keyboard is not doing what it is supposed to, at least in pocket IE and Quicknote- pressing and holding does not repeat the key, so to delete the URL on the address bar I have to press the backspace X number of times...or just hold the backspace key on the numeric keypad.
6. On each contact I have to choose "Last, First" or "First Last" instead of a global setting...WHY?
7. I thought the phone should be smart enough to enable the "traditional" English IME when the keyboard is slided out. The "smart" English IME only has its place when the phone keypad - when you have the full keyboard, why guess and force me to hit "Enter" after every word? I should be able to use the arrow keys any time to confirm what I have already typed without "Enter".
8. Those annoying sounds - Wifi turns off, initiating a call, etc. Why?
9. Networking Wizard - that tells me my carrier is not in its database, offers me "Don't ask me again" checkbox that I cannot find a way to check.
10. Ending a call does not automatically bring me back to the home screen. That's annoying.
11. No page up/page down anywhere. It's a PITA in pocket IE.
I know it's a lot of rant - I don't know which ones of these things are fixable and which aren't. After searching for a bit I know #8 is fixable via registry hacks. Don't know about anything else.
I'm really trying to move away from the trusty Blackberry, which is getting old (but holding very well after surviving countless, vigorous abuses like dropping down subway platforms, flying towards brick walls, etc.). So by putting the shortcomings of the Vox together in one message, I hope someone may point out ways to tweak/fix it.
Sorry for the long rant. I'm really trying to use the Vox - or is "life after Blackberry" an oxymoron?
Some good news:
#1 is solved. HKLM\nls\overrides, add "ddd" to SSDte. Mine is now "ddd yyyy-MM-dd" and it works perfectly. Now when I try to update the time in the setting menu, it automatically updates the DOW too!
#4 - I read there's something called "Kai's Autocorrect" - is a pay-software, but it might do what I need...anyone knows some other proggie that can replace-as-you-type?
#6 - still trying - although it looks like there's a registry hack for it.
#8 - easily fixed thru widely available reg hacks!!
#10 - I just realized it does, but I don't want the 5 seconds or so delay. Maybe there's a tweak somewhere...
#11 - Have I overlooked? Pgup/Pgdn are there - maybe I'm asking for too much to use "space" as Pgdn?

HTC Touch Keyboard

Anyone knows how to remove this black banner
When i type a recipientname i only get one name and this black banner
also with the message i type
disable xt9 and word suggestion
I did disabled the word completion, bud where to complete disable te xt9 ?
input methode => touch keyboard => i remove the checkbox there
Weird thing is, it doesn't show up every time you use the keyboard. In one screen it does and in the other screen it doesn't (or I'm blind).
The settings you changed should work I think.. lemme see:
start -> settings -> input -> *select 'Touch keyboard' from list* -> options -> XT9 settings.
In the XT9 settings you can turn off word completion etc.
However, I'm not sure if that also turns it off for the normal keyboard. I would assume it does, but you know what they say about assumptions eh
After this regtweak
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\
and change the key "XT9SupportMSSip" from value "1" to "0"
The black banner bellow is gone for keyboard input, the input sms recipients its still there and have only one name instead of the hole list with email names.
Try this. Will Disable xt9
Works great thanks
I have exactly the opposite problem - Word Completion doesn't work at all even though I set ip up several times in the "Input" menu (in "Settings").
Any suggestions??
Thanks.

Does that also disable T9 for the Touch Keyboard and Keypad?
Hi, I tried this CAB file and it works for the DUAL. May be you guys can give it a try. I got it from the HTC website. Good Luck!
Hi, I've also been irritated by the new XT9 on my HTC Touch Cruise. I have managed to stop the XT9 black bar coming up when using the standard jeyboard, but how do I get the original windows word suggestion to come back up? I have become very fast at using the windows word suggestion on my old HTC Artemis and like how it suggests a word but does not replace the one you're typing before you click on the suggestion.

I would like to know this aswell, I become very fond of this on my Orbit 1 (artemis) and liked that it learned words that you used frequently.
Exactly, I had the Orbit 1 and have now upgraded to the Orbit 2. The way it learned words was great, but it didn't interfere with what you were typing. I'd rather it assumed I was correct and let me choose when to go with it's suggestion.
Ah ha! I have managed to rid myself of the XT9 and get the nice old native pocket pc word suggestion back!
I installed PocketCM Keyboard. That's it.
As I was typing on the new keybaord I noticed word suggestions coming up as well as the PocketCM Keyboard suggestions. I then swithced back to the standard keybaord and the classic word suggestion was back! I went into word suggestion options and changed it to my favourite settings and hey presto, it's working as good as the old one was. It also gives me the nice standard list of contacts when typing a name into my SMS 'to' field. Fantastic.
I don't know if it was a fluke or if it would happen every time you install PocketCM Keyboard, try it out. I don't know if you can get the XT9 back though, and the XT9 doesn't work for the touch keyaord and keypad now either rendering them practically useless, so be warned.
I also haven't reset the phone since this discovery so i don't know if it's permanent, but, crossed fingers...

I don't know of any way to switch off the touch keybaord and keypad, but you can switch to another keyboard easily enough. If it's the black bar with predictive text in it you can switch it off pressing the XT9/ABC button on the touch keyboard, then using the keyboard of your choice. However this does not replace the XT9 predictive tet with the old style word prediction. The only way I found to do that was to install PCM Keyboard. I don't know why that reactivated the old style word prediction but it did.
Also, in addition to my previous post, i have reset my phone a number of times and the old style word predition has stayed. It seems to be a permanent solution, even if i don't know why it works.
I hope that helped.

Thanks Swidge. You are awesome!

Word Correction / Auto Correct Fix

I posted this in the other Auto Correct thread (found here). That thread got so long that it was requested that I start a new thread with this info so it is easier to find this fix and how to do it.
I have a FUZE and mainly ONLY use the actual physical keyboard and not the onscreen keyboard. The fact you can not set up normal Auto Word Correction words was driving me crazy. So through a lot of people a fix was found. Credit goes to a lot of people who suggested different things (like Bugsykoosh), and then I put a few different programs/tweaks together and it works very well.
Here is how you do it.
1) Disabled T9 completely by installing the cab found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2914474&postcount=8 . After installing the T9 button will no longer work.
2) Change your onscreen keyboard to "keyboard" as the default. You will no longer be able to use the QWERTY keyboard, but that was fine for me since I mainly use the actual keyboard. For this to work you MUST switch your on screen default keyboard to "keyboard" or install the Happy Tapping keyboard.
3) Install DictMgr for Windows Mobile that can be found at http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=DictMgr&platform=ppc . It is FREE. This program is the key to making this work.
4) Only parts of DictMgr works with our version of Windows Mobile. After installing open up the program and launch the Word Corrector part of the program. It looks exactly like the traditional word replacement entry screen you see on your PC. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE.
5) Add the words you want to auto correct and hit save. It requires a soft reboot.
10) After the reset try to type something using the actual keyboard and you will see the word correct work the way it is supposed to.
I am VERY positive right now about this working so far.
Some other Feedback/Notes:
1) I use MyMobiler so when connected to my PC I can view my phone screen on my desktop. This makes entering all the auto correct words I want MUCH easier since I can use my normal keyboard.
2) I entered as MANY as I could at one time because a soft reset is required each time you save the file.
3) I have started entering all the basic ones like
i --> I
monday --> Monday
mon --> Monday
tuesday --> Tuesday
tues ---> Tuesday
(and all the rest of the days)
jan --> January
feb --> February
(and all the rest of the months)
4) on the onscreen keyboard I did go to the Touch Input Setting and check all options. See attached image.
5) I also went to the Options-->Word Completion Tab and checked "Enable Auto Correct. See attached image.
Everyone, this SEEMS to be a real EASY fix for this issue I am happy to report.
There is a solution to still use the Full QWERTY Keyboard. The complete text is located here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1527
After disabling T9 you must toggle the T9-ABC button back on. To do it press the button then hit the ABC123 button and keep going until it stick. If that fails go into landscape mode and try toggling. Once you get it to change it will stay that way. The one downside is it only works for odd numbers so it works on the first, third and fifth letter you enter and on the second letter no autocompletion appears on screen. The autocorrection (ex spell check) still occurs either way that.
Thanks TVDinner -that was fun
sweet! This issue now has 2 solutions. I love when a plan comes together!!!
So with this fix can I still use the physical keyboard/Full QWERTY soft keyboard/Phone Keypad like normal?

Hi NeroDan;
With bugsykoosh's fix you can still use the on screen Qwerty keyboard.
With my fix you have to choose the onscreen "keyboard" option, or install the happy tapping onscreen keyboard. You can not use the qwerty keyboard with the fix I described.
If you do not use the onscreen keyboard then either fix will work fine.

Hardware keyboard slide annoyance! :mad:

Hi guys,
I went from loving my Touch Pro to almost throwing it at a wall!
This keyboard slide-out issue is driving me nuts, whenever I want to type something using the hardware keyboard, I slide it out and the damn landscape TF3D menu gets displayed ON TOP of whatever page I'm on.
I've tried the disable landscape registry trick (HKCU\SOFTWARE\HTC\Manila\landscape=false then soft reset) which works... but after a while (a few minutes or after some program or some random thing) it stops working and I have to either reset the phone or turn the reg key back to "true".
Is there any way at all to prevent the keyboard slide showing the landscape menu or at least prevent the menu from being on top of the current app?
For example I go to reply an SMS (I even tried waiting on the cursor to blink a few times, 2 - 3 secs) then slide out the keyboard to type and the stupid 8 icon menu goes on top of my message entry page, I have to choose 'messaging' app from the list of running apps to get back to that page, it really defeats the purpose of having a hardware keyboard!
Thanks guys for reading the rant.

What ROM are you currently using?
I had that issue too, I got rid of the theme I was using and stuck to the original HTC theme and I no longer have that problem!
I'm using Da_G's Clean ROM with his standard Manila install afterwards.
I've recently uninstalled the EzInput/T9 package from HTC and it seems to be behaving itself for now (it's been 2 hours with minimal use), like I said before it happens randomly. I don't know if it was because of the EzInput or something else because this seems to go away after every soft reset then comes back unexpectedly.
Thanks.

I had the issue using the RRE ROMs and ended up removing HTC Volume Control and it solved the problem completely.
Hrm I see to be having the issue again. How do I remove the HTC Volume Control?
I don't have any of this because I dumped the TF3D. Much happier and trouble/issue free without it. Euro device using stock rom.
OK I can confirm that it is the HTC Volume Controls that is causing this!
So from my previous post I tried to uninstall HTC EZinput which seemed to have fixed it but like I originally said the problem seems to happen out of nowhere after some time using the device.
So after reading the post above about HTC Volume Control, I pressed the vol down button, then this problem started happening again. I did a soft reset and no more problem after a while I pressed the vol button again and it happened again!

will the application works on HTC Raphael??
Problem solved!
I had this problem for ages (as long as I have my Raphael, I think), and I couldn't track it down on the internet. Some time ago I found a post on XDA describing the problem but I can't find it again. Finding this post made me think.
I installed the aforementioned "volume control from JMZ" (I had extremely hard time finding it) and I didn't like it because it did something strange with my system font but it solved the problem. After few unsuccessful tries to fix the font (btw does anyone know how to fix this?) I decided to uninstall it. And the problem didn't return.
So what was the problem? Well… when I bought the phone I wanted (as many of you did) to change those ugly taskbar icons including volume icons contained within HTCVolumeControl.dll. And I did it by finding the dll file with the prettiest icons here on XDA (and maybe I changed some of them using the described procedure, I really can't remember now). However, that dll is the main culprit for the bug described in this post. Was it already broken when I found it, or I somehow broke it it's irrelevant now.
So the solution is: you don't have to install anything. Just delete HTCVolumeControl.dll from Windows folder, i.e. rename it using for example Resco File Explorer and then soft reset the device so that original file from ROM can be restored. Yes, the ugly icons will return but at least now you'll now where to look if this bug reappears. After that go and some find pretty volume icons, and again follow the procedure how to change them.
I have no idea how the file got corrupted in the first place (maybe there is some corrupted dll roaming the xda forum ) but after this episode I make changes only directly on the original dll (the one from ROM) and every time it was successful. I changed many icons until I found my favorites.
Cheers!
