Have you ever heard of DRM?!
You can convert DVDs, considering you have the right(sometimes illegal, depending on where you're living) software on your hands but there is no way to play an iTunes DRM protected media file on your WM platform, there is also no legal or illegal conversion software available, sorry.

Best App (Currently) for streaming locally stored pc videos to android devices

Hey everyone-
I've been doing a bunch of searching lately for an easy-to-use and convenient application for streaming videos from my pc to android device (like airplay for the iphone). And I can't seem to find one specific app that makes it simple and easy, they all seem to be a pain in the ass. I know this question has been asked before, but not for a couple months, so what in your opinion is the best application and/or method for streaming content from a pc to an android device? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have your PC setup with the dnla server software, this place has a beta dnla client for Andoid. I saw the write up on EuroDroid.com.
http://www.skifta.com/
I tried using the Playon streaming with the mobile link. It worked ok...but I do want a nice streaming option.
VLC Remote
Doesn't VLC Remote just control whats playing on your desktop? I think the OP is looking for something to stream movies to his handset.
That aside, I love VLC Remote.
Yes, I'm looking to stream videos from my pc's hdd to my phone, in an easy way (i.e. in the same way that airvideo for the iphone does).

And i don't have a dlna server on my pc, it's just an external hdd connected to my pc.
I use File Expert as a file manager/explorer and I mapped my computer under it's network tab, then when I select a video I use VPlayer to play it in. Works perfectly!
Every other way I tried before this required the video to download before watching, but this way I can stream any video directly.
You will need to setup your video/movies/etc folders on PC to be shared with proper permissions. Easiest to just share the whole external HDD.

Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.
Let me put it this way, is there anything as stupid simple as audiogalaxy for android that will do the same thing for music?
I'd definitely give RockPlayer a go. It has both hardware and software decoding and it works with TVersity!
Same way, through the file explorer. You just need to share your music on pc and connect to it.
My Desire HD came with DNLA client software and when I go into the music program I can stream in there directly from my WMP library, that's probably the easiest way but that would vary with different phones.
I use VLC Stream & Convert, though it is somewhat cumbersome to set up...
I ended up using windows task scheduler and a lot of program commands to start it with my computer all stealthy
Yeah, I've got windows media player set-up correctly with all the proper permissions and such. All of my media files are showing up, i.e. music, videos, etc, and all of my music plays fine as well. But, the one thing that won't play are ANY of my videos, which are mostly xvid-encoded .avi files, which I'm not sure skifta supports (as it uses the dlna classification). Any suggestions?
If you have a windows PC you can easily setup windows media player to stream via dlna. Just google "windows media player dlna". If you are on mac or linux, just substitute for OSX or your linux distro and the word dlna for a bunch of options. Once it's up and going you can use the dlna app mentioned earlier or if you are lucky enough to have a SGS like me, you can use Samsung All Share to stream. I have used this since I got my phone and it's working like a charm!

I assume you mean video since audiogalaxy is for music? And to put it bluntly, no there isn't anything as simple as that for video yet.

[Q] What is the experience with itunes on mango?

Hi, I'm thinking about making the switch to windows phone 7 but I have some questions.
If I don't use zune and add music from my iTunes library, will I get the same experience on my wp7 phone, like the artwork in the hubs and artwork on the lock screen (mango feature) ?

You have to use Zune to get Music on your WP7. I imported my music from my iTunes library to Zune, and everything worked fine. I can't tell you anything about the artwork though, because it's not available for countries without Zune music store..
remove DRM and play itunes movies freely
Because of the protection, you can't transfer itunes files directly. To edit and remove protection from iTunes DRM protected video, or convert itunes files to iphone and other devices, you can download a m4v Converter free trial to convert files to any popular format easily.
Get it from: m4vconverter4mac.com/m4v-converter.html
once imported, the artist info will either be pulled by the phone itself or transferred when synced with the zune software.
but as stated, you can't sync a windows phone with itunes, just like you can't sync an iphone with zune.

[Q] Any video player app which can handle majority formats for WP7

Hi,
I searched everywhere, either I did it wrong way or there is isn't any available.
A video player for avi/divx/mkv/mp4 formats with majority codecs supported?
Examples:
GoodPlayer for iPhone
DicePlayer for Android
Hope I have posted in the right section..
This is built into to Windows phone you just drag whatever format movie into your Zune then sync with device and bam it plays.

Agreed, but some media files zune will not add.
For Example:
AVI file with Xvid+AC3 = Zune says 'media type not valid'
MKV file = Zune will not allow to even drag drop this extension
So no option but to convert. Any one??
Even when you drag "compatible" video formats to the phone, Zune STILL converts them, so you may as well do it anyway.

Thats what I don't want to do. Atleast for directly playable files.
Please suggest if there is any app vailable.
Not at this moment..
Sent from my LG Optimus 7
that's the only thing i hate on wobdoes phone and the omnia 7. such a big screen and powerfull hardware, but most of my videos won't play. indeed most files are .avi coded with xvid/divx, and most files with higher resolution are .mkv.
even crappy bada phones play those files without any problems.
Big question here: Is it even possible that someone develops a videoplayer like moboplayer on android? or doesn't ms allow other media player or isn't there any access to necesarry api's? And if the published such videoplayer, how would we get these video files on our phones without itunes trying to convert them?
On itunes there was a possibility with vlc player until it had to be removed.

+1 - am interested too.. why?
Well I would like to have possibility download MP3 from Skydrive to my phone and have it stored in the device. This function doesn't allow me Zune, if the MP3 are not in the device Zune only stream it I wanna download it not stream.
Hope that's clear.
i was wondering about this too
I've heard of cloud music apps but I don't think there is an opption to do it thru Zune where you can downlad your music from Skydrive as of yet; hopefully soon. That is if MS feels like it.

Question about 8.1 RT and video playback

Hey guys,
My dad just got a Windows 8.1 RT surface. Im not sure which one he has. Im an android and pc junky, but havent had a chance to play around with RT really. Essentially, I just loaded up an external HDD with a bunch of AVIs, MP4s, and a few MKVs. Are these formats supported, either natively or with 3rd party apps? From what I can tell AVIs and MP4s are, but is there something out there that is a lot better than the stock video player?
Another question: On my android device, I can go to websites like gorillavid or putlocker, copy the video stream link, and open it in my video player, which allows for a lot smoother playback. Anything like this for Windows RT?

Mobile HD Media Player works with MKV files. It cost around $3.50AUD from store but no hassles and not sure if your tablet is jailbroken.
Not sure how well it streams though as I use PLEX media server to stream all my media when around the house - no free wifi that can be used worth a damn around Australia and not streaming over Mobiile Internet with our prices....

Yep. It does on the MKV files that have them included in the MKV container.
Haven't tried an AVI file with sub files in the same folder yet, my movies are (mostly) in English...
Vlc is launching their app on the windows store in this month, or probably the next one.
I use Media Browser for streaming. It looks and works much better than skype.

PowerDVDMobile is the most flexible player on the store with my files (mostly MKV, MP4) - costly, but it's pretty much a one stop solution.
