I have had this problem for a while and I really need to fix it.
I am ok dragging items to the phone through windows but it does not allow me to take any files off.
For example if I drag an image off it will display the bar as though it is dragging to completion. But once done there is no image on the computer.
It's frustrating me now as my phone is filling up with pictures I want to take them off also there is little point in taking them if i can't get them to the PC, I recently tried to cut 60 pictures and I pasted them into a folder on the PC and they were all gone! Lost forever! I was mad!
So in short, It syncs fine, I can browse the PPC using the explorer on my PC, and I can even copy files *to* my PPC and manipulate them on the unit itself. But taking a file from the PPC to my desktop won't work. It looks like it's copying (it gives me the progress bar) and thinks that it was copied but it never arrives.
At the moment I have an Elf, but this problem started before with my Alpine when I used to have that until not that long ago.
Use the flash card. There is no enought memory on the phone for pics.
Do you mean put the card straight into a card reader and do it that way?
I don't have a card reader suitable to do this.
What do you mean 'there is not enough memory on the phone for pics' ?
Anyone?
I have pictures and other documents i really want to get off my phone but i can't?
Even if there is software that backsup off a phone that might work........

I'm not sure if this is something everyone has or not, but it seems like an issue when I connect portable devices, and can't remember if its happened in the past but its definitely not working this time around.
Basically, i want to be able to preview my images in thumbnail form on my computer without needing to take the images off my device. I have no problem viewing files already on my computer, and they come up with thumbnails as they should. But when i view the folder that is on my HTC, this is what I see [see attachment]. Do other have this problem? Do you know how to solve this problem?
Its annoying because if i want to just see the file, i have to open it, or copy the files to my computer first. I know that i could just use the phone to see the photos, but yea, its just the principle of being able to do it with your computer like you would a normal camera.

if the pictures are on your sd card then you can plug it in as a disk drive and view them the way you want.
Yes, I have the same issue.
I usually pull them onto my desktop by date.
I have not tried to remedy the problem since the quantity of photos are a handful.
ok. Yea, i do have a microSD converter, but i want to try and avoid always taking it out and in of my phone just for a simple task such as this.

I don't know about the Raphael, but with Blackstone, when I connect it to my PC, it asks me whether I want to connect in Activesync mode, Disk Drive mode, or Internet mode.
In activesync mode, I can't see thumbnails, however in Disk drive mode, the memory card is taken as any external USB flash drive, and thumbnails appear normally.
If Raphael does not have this feature, I believe you can get a software which can turn your memory card into a USB storage. I don't remember its name anymore I used to have it on my K-Jam.
Hope this helps,
Regards.

Hi Fuseless,
Yup, i tried your technique. And it works! Now, I can see the previews of my pics in my HTC TOUCH HD whenever I connect it to my PC. Thanks!
I was recently given a Htc mozart by a friend who had cracked the screen and bought a new phone, they said I could have it but would like their photos and vids off it so if I could back it up (easy as pie I thought!!!)
The phone charges and functions fine (I changed the digitzer) but when plugged into a pc it displays usb unrecognized error code 43 (malfunction?). I have tried multiple cables, laptops and even os (xp, 7 32bit/64bit and osx), I have searched the internet and have seen some suggestions on wiping the phone (but I don't want to do this until the data is backed up) also looked at reading the micro sd but found you can't by conventional methods.
I have also tried multiple apps - boxfiles, sendstuffnow, sharefile (they seem to allow one photo at a time but not videos), I also tried emailing them but again I can't email vids and the phone has over 500 pics! tried bluetooth and also yivosoft but it doesn't seem to be able to view the files (root access required??), tried a few other programs such as ftp and they just state the phone needs to be updated via zune (currently running 7.0.7004.0).
I was thinking of sticking another microsd card in and formatting it etc just to see if it is then recognised in windows and poss update the firmware then put the old micro sd back in? would this work or is the firmware stored on the micro sd card and also if not when I update would it then state the old micro sd needs formatting or something? If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get the pics and vids off it would be greatly appreciated! I am an android user and this is my first experience with a windows phone so if I am way off my apologies. Thanks again
For sure don't mess with the uSD cards. They're locked to the device (the "S" in SD stands for "Secure" and refers to a rarely-used ability to lock an SD card). Even if you managed to make the card usable again, the data on it would be gone. Also, yes, the OS is at least partially stored on the SD card, and your switch-update suggestion would not work.
WiFi sync would work, but if that's not already set up you'd need to connect the phone to Zune via the USB to set it up. There are some homebrew apps that would be able to lift the files easily enough, but unless you have something lile TouchXplorer or Advanced Explorer installed already, that's not an option (you need USB connection to install more homebrew).
Sorry, man. This is one of the reasons why I plug in my phone to my PC every day or two and sync it; the tiny amount of time it takes is worth the reassurance. I realize that doesn't help now, though...

Thanks for the reply, know what you mean I back up regular also but my friend didn't. I can't believe its so difficult to transfer the files without the usb connection :S also can't believe the updates are no ota :S was hoping there might be a method of unlocking the phone for homebrew like there was with the iphone at one stage. Ah well back to the drawing board unless someone can come up with any other ideas!
I have searched the internet for the answer for the last few days, have tried multiple things suggested and nothing seems to fix my issue!
First the problem : When I sync my phone to my computer it syncs like normal, phone gives me all 3 options (Charge, Disk Drive, Tether). I choose disk drive and then my computer asks me what I want to do. I click explore and it opens up the phone folder yet it doesn't show anything on my SD card, just the stuff on my phone. The weird part is when I Search for a folder that is on the SD Card for example "audio" the folder shows up with all it's contents. This has been driving me insane for the last couple of days.
Things I attempted already to fix the issue to no avail : Have tried different computers, have tried 3 different cables at this point, HTC Sync (Doesn't recognize phone at all), I have went into my folder options on my computer and made sure all hidden folders are showing. I have restarted and replaced my SD Card multiple times.
The thing that really gets me is that when I do search for a folder on my SD Card such as audio it DOES show up and I am able to delete/copy/paste stuff into it but everything on the SD Card does not show unless I search for it specifically. I hope someone can help, this is really frustrating me at this point!
Okay, so I deduce windows based on htc sync - you can start by going ahead and uninstalling that. (htc sync)
What version of windows?
Try choosing your usb mode before plugging into the pc.
What brand sdcard? Capacity?
Did you format the card in the doubleshot when you started using it?
What rom are you running on the device?
Or are you sure it's not a virus? I once had a friend who had his USB drive infected with a virus. And same situation as yours. When I plugged in the usb it should that most of the space is used. Yet when I opened the usb there's no folders or even files. But when I plugged it in a linux PC I saw all the folders and found a autorun.inf and an exe file. Deleted it and when plugged back in the windows PC all the files showed up again but as hidden & system files. But all contents are intact.
Ok so to clarify some more things, Yes I am using Windows 7, have already uninstalled HTC Sync.
Next one important fact might be that I'm NOT rooted in which case I'm not sure if I'm even supposed to ask this question in these forums (I did read all the rules pages and understand this site was created for developers and development aspect of phones, did not see any specifics as far as asking questions about unrooted phones, Sorry if that is the case).
I DO have Disk Drive as default setting before plugging up.
It is a SanDisk 16GB SD Card Blue.
Don't think last two questions apply since I'm not rooted.
Also just to clarify something else, I think I actually am seeing folders on my card when plugging in but for some reason it's not showing all of them. I know this because when I search the drive for "audio" it brings up the folder and shows that it is directly under the drive, not in any subfolder.
As far as it being a virus, in that case what should my actions be?
I REALLY appreciate you guys taking the time to reply and answer some of my questions. Thanks again, hopefully I can get this fixed.
Does it do the same thing when you connect to a different PC? I want to say this is a PC OS setting issue.

I have tried 3 different PCs with Windows 7 and got the same result. This is beyond frustrating at this point!
If it's a virus issue have you already tried browsing the content of your SDCard? If there's a virus using a android file manager like ES Explorer for example you might see some unfamiliar files in there. On most case you should see a .exe file in the root of your SDCard. Also try looking for some odd named folders or RECYCLER.
This is not applicable on a windows OS. So I recommend you to browse through your android phone or try plugging in your device to a linux PC.
Using ES Explorer I did find an exe titled audio.exe and deleted it, restarted phone and that didn't seem to help.
The way I finally fixed my issue though, I had to uncheck "Hide protected system files" in folders options to see the rest of the folders.

Classic. Right up there with windows hiding known file extensions, so you end up with some-file.zip.zip but only see one .zip extension and can't fathom why it won't work.
Glad it was something simple and not catastrophic!
Yeah a virus indeed! Just as I guessed on my 1st post better scan your PC then... Cleaning up your phone storage isn't enough as it will just come back once plugged in back to your PC.
And the audio.exe is indeed a virus. Also I'm sure theres more of those in your sdcard. Try to look further specially .exe files in sub directories etc.
Also I suggest these links in fixing your phone storage.

Hi,
my last phone was android 4.0.3. everything was perfect (and logical ). i had my internal space and my sd (wich was mounted to /sdcard). when i connected my phone to the pc i could acces my sdcard directly as it was... what a wonderful world
i know android changed the sd access because of security issues. i know the OPO got no sd.
but now i get crazy
OPO shows my something like "internal storage /storage/emulated/0" with an nice sd sign nearby. looked what was inside this, connected my phone as media device onto pc and found the same content. i thougt: well stange path but ok idc.
i placed my titaniumbackup and whatsapp folder there and placed a picture into pictures. then i installed whatsapp (it found my backup and restored it, but the backup folder was still in this place), changed background to the picture and set up everything else.
well, no it starts to get confusing after setting everything up i connected my phone onto pc a moment ago. and what did i saw then? the picture, movies, music,... folders all where gone. the only fodler left inside the whats app folder is media.
the picture i placed in pictures is still my background but cant find the filename with any (root) file brwoser. whatsapp still everything ok but where are the files and folder gone? how can i backup whatsapp in the future?
so im like:
- why are there at least 5 ways to go to the "internal storage" (/sdcard, /mnt/sdcard, /storage/emulated/0, /storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/sdcard0)? (only because diefferent devs using different pathes?)
- why, how and when got this place changed/folders deleted (from system?)?
am i maybe using something wrong? is there another way supposed to do it?
for me everything is really weird at the moment
So last week the tornadoes hit my hometown in Western Kentucky. If you watch TV, then you have seen it. 75% of the town is wiped out.. I have (should I say had) amazing video from that along with the destruction, the fear, there aren't really words for it all.. several friends are having issues with insurance and looting. I'm hoping some of their belongings are on my videos so police can prosecute the looters. (Totally not cool to steal from people who just lost everything.) Here's my dilemma
A couple days prior I changed My settings in my phone to record straight to sd card so I didn't have to move files to it. It's a SDHC. 1024GB MICRO SD. It was formatted because I've been using it for a while... just moving photos over to it from my gallery, no problem. Later that day I went to show the video and when I opened gallery I watched every video I had disappear and be replaced with the grey box and white exclamation. Photos I took are fine... eventually it has now greyed out 95% of my video.
I've tried playing on pc, with vlc, media player, Samsung video player, "unrecognizable file format " They are mp4. Here's what I noticed interesting.
I checked the SD card and it says healthy, no bad sectors.
The time length on each video says 0.00
The size of the file is different from the size shown in my explorer on my phone, pc, and what's shown by a file explorer/recovery program
I changed my settings back to record to the internal memory but still nothing.
I'm guessing headers or something didn't transfer or or hell who knows
I've changed the file extension and name. Nothing
I've tried converting but the file type isn't recognized.
Help! Here's photos of what I see
The last time I saw something like this, there was an issue with the card, not the phone. That doesn't necessarily mean that's your issue. But it's highly probably.
I agree it's the most likely scenario. Best thing to do is take a few similar test videos and replicate what you did on a new or different microsd card and see how it turns out. If it works and retains it then it's the original card. If not then it's an issue with the phone/ hardware itself.
I actually ended up copying the card and put it back in... the recordings I made next were fine! No settings were changed, and it's only the one Day they messed up... could it be because there was zero cell signal in town? Nothing could upload to the cloud.... I know moving files or even recording straight to sd will leave file pieces and signal most definitely should not affect storage on a device. I did get this data off one video though. Any ideas?
I've never heard of a data connection messing with storage of a device unless that device is separate and not directly connected. Again, doesn't mean it can't happen. But the most likely problem is still the card. You said you copied everything back on, what is happening to new content?
