Treo 750 and Spb Mobile Shell - Palm Treo 750

Anyone having any issues with the battery meter in Spb Mobile Shell on the Treo w/ WM6 (stock AT&T ROM)? Every few times I flip it on to check something the battery meter on the applications tab will go down to zero for several seconds and then come back up to the regular level. I checked the stock battery meter in the taskbar and it stays at the charge level the entire time (i.e., the battery meter that is up at the top of the screen will say it has x% of battery power left while the indicator for Spb Mobile Shell says 0%).
Is this common? I am trying to decide if it is a software issue or just something wrong with my phone specifically.

You need to click on the battery indicator before you can see the actual power percentage left on the battery.

I think that the app just refreshes itself when coming out of sleep/idle mode.

Battery drain (touch cruise or SPB mobile shell 2 )???

I made a small test.
1) Hard reseted the HTC, Charged my battery to 100%, then let the phone lying on my table for 12 hours without doing anything and then check battery status -> 84%
2) Hard reseted the HTC, installed SPB mobile shell 2.0 Charged my battery to 100%, then let the phone lying on my table for 12 hours without doing anything and then check battery status -> 68%
Anyone encountered this same issue?????
Thansk a lot for helping
Dag
Depends on whether you have set weather updates to download at set intervals. Also check your backlight options, this may have been changed by SPB.
I think I have heard a similar thing a couple of times (spb draining the battery). The solution as suggested by MrSmith22 is to disable the automatic weather updates. I think you also need to disable the option "Show the Now Screen when device wakes up".
Another thing which you may find useful is to install the PowerGuard program (freeware) and monitor the energy drawn by your device. I installed version 1.5 of the software you are using and with screen dimmed and nothing else running the buttery current is -32mA. Of course this varies between now and then...
I would say if you notice huge negative numbers while at standby, for example, -150, -300, then there might be a problem! These numbers are what i get when i use coreplayer for music or video.
Of course you need to make sure that WiFi is turned off. I have no idea how spb updates the weather reports. If it tries to use a WiFi connection every 10 minutes then i guess this could be a cause... In my device, I have also disabled the HSDPA mode as I do not really need it.
Bottom line, run PowerGuard and observe the current drawn with and without the software you are interested in.
Hope I helped...

problem with battery indicator and charging

I welcome. I have the very untypical problem.
It all started with it around the phone started showing that the battery is unloaded, in spite of it around was loaded up. I thought cool it apparently a battery fell down. I bought new and unfortunately the same. Since the battery almost on max is loaded up the rally is loading it for moments and then loading is turning off. However an indicator of loading up on the nought and an announcement of the weak battery are demonstrating the system and it is disconnecting. I thought ok I will make hard reset and most probably he will help, however it turned out around not. Yeah rally loaded WM6 together with new ROM and unfortunately the same old story. I will still add around after this moment when is loading and an orange diode is shining and the indicator is showing the battery around loading is when he is finishing an indicator is appearing around empty battery and with stamp 'x'.
I hope around somebody here will help me. And perhaps somebody knows where in the register it is possible to change placing so that the system doesn't download details about loading the battery up and he wasn't mutually exclusive
Say what?
Can you please ask someone to translate so we can at least understand what your problem is?
ok I write it with my words.
When I switch on my phone battery indicator in main screen shows zero and sign '!' and the telephone switch off itself.
When I put usb cable or telephone battery charger and switch on my phone the phone charging about 10-20 seconds and after that battery indicator shows empty battery and sign 'x'. The phone still work but the indicator in Settings/Power Managment/Main Battery is completely empty.
I have new battery so battery is ok. I made hard reset and changed software from wm5 to wm 6.1 and the battery still isn't charging.
I hope that it is undertanding now.
Has the battery indicator ever worked while you've owned the phone, or is this something that has happened since upgrading your ROM? Having said that, this sounds more like a hardware issue to me. Try taking the battery out and cleaning the pins on the phone. If you've tried different ROM's, I don't believe it's a software issue and after a quick search of the forum, I haven't found anybody with a similar issue, which I would expect to if it were software related
The battery indicator worked normally and one day it stopped working. I upgraded ROM becouse i thought that it help.
I have second question. Whether it is possible to change the register this way so that the starting system doesn't read the level of battery charge out.
I have the same problem. Did you solve it?

Raphael Roms on Fuze - Battery Drain Issue

Bad Problem with the Battery
i have the TP and the bettery have a big problem it's ended in about 5 hours with no use.
how can i fix it?
is there any program to increase the use or tweak the settings?
from 5 hours no
change the battery
You have either some app running which consumes a huge amount of power (really huge! Even if you use TP as video player with the screen configured to full brightness TPs battery lasts for at least four to five hours). Or your device has got a faulty battery (which would probably be more likely).
Are you by any chance using Wayfinder Navigator gps-software? I found (the hard way) that this software doesn't close the GPS-unit in the phone automatically when you exit the application. Even after a soft-reset the problem persists. This will drain the battery in pretty much 5 hours. The solution is to manually close the GPS-connection in the WF Navigator program settings every time you exit the app (and hope for a fix ASAP). I've already reported this to Wayfinder, and they're working on it.

what aBE-One is saying is that on his phone he had a similar problem, the software was closed but the GPS command remained active thus draining his battery, so your IGO8 might be shut down as software but there is a chance that the GPS hardware is still running in the background for no reason. go into your com manager and turn off GPS and that should resolve the issue

Exactly the same happened to me, after a full charge it took only 5 hours to an almost complete discharge.
I bought TP 1 week ago and it came with radio 1.02.25.17 with no battery issues at all but with the GPS issue -not finding sats-. After upgrading to 1.02.25.28 radio ROM, the GPS now works ok with TomTom, GPS test etc, but the battery now drains dramatically even in standby with no software running and all radios off except phone.
Is possible that the GPS radio stays on even after closing GPS software? In that case, is there any way to manually switch off the GPS module?. In TTN there's no a button to do this.
Mine too..
But i've observed this drain even before upgrating to radio 1.02.25.28
In 40 minutes from 78% to 69% (9%), in stand-by mode (short press power) without any running application!
And I've done 3 or 4 full discharge-full recharge cicles...
LE: No active moderator here? There are plenty of battery problem topics.. why not merge them? It's hard to chose in which one to post... Also, that's not the only case. See GPS related bugs, opera, etc. Too many duplicate topics.
Ok, more info:
I've drained the battery completely till the device turned off then I've left the phone on charging overnight (device turned off).
After about 9-10 hours I've unpluged and turned on the device. Used for 1 hour and 25 minutes in total (about 1 hour for browsing - not downloading, so data transfer was not continously - and the rest for music). With "Auto adjust backlight". The battery level gone from 100% down to 68%, so 32% battery drain in less than a hour and a half!!!
Now, after 4 minutes (device was in standby - eg: short power button press), I wanted to check something and the battery metter was on 66%... so 2% in standy/idle mode in just 4 minutes?!
@l1234 any updates?

That all sounds correct. I can be typing emails/sms with WiFi and phone on (not actually doing anything), drains about 1% per minute.
I read the other day that the percentage indicator is faulty. Some people have reported the battery draining down to 10% in a very short time, but then the meter will stay at 10% for hours before going down to 9%, etc. Has anyone else noticed this? If not, look for it and see if it happens to you. Also, open the power meter in the settings options and verify that it shows the same battery level. I've had that happen to me already where it would say 50% in the title bar but the power options still show 3/4 of the meter!

I have noticed that the battery percentage indicator does this. All in all, my device has better battery life after flashing a custom ROM, keeping screen brightness under half and leaving off bluetooth or wifi if possible. my battery will stay at 100% for hours, but if i soft reset, it drops 10%. other times it will drop right away but stay there. It really does stay at 10% or so though for ages before it drops further.

I was brosing via 3G/HSPDA connection. No WiFi/BT on.
Now, it seems that the drain in standby time is OK (haven't done something special, same processes opened.. maybe just now the battery can be used at its full performance, after some charges/discharges) - BUT when using the device the battery drains quite quickly..
I give you an example.
Battery was 100%. Browsing the internet with IE & Opera for 1 hour. Battery meter was on 75%. So 25% in one hour... tooo much... The display backlight is set to "Auto adjust".
Again, I'm not using Wifi/BT, push e-mail, etc. Just normal browsing (without downloads) with a 3G/HSPDA connection.
I've had my Fuze about a week and I've been testing out many of the available ROMs. I've noticed disturbing trend and want to know if anyone else is seeing this problem, and if so, how can we fix it? It seems like anytime I install a Raphael based ROM, I start to lose battery power at a fast rate - about 10%/hour, maybe even faster. With a cooked ROM based off the ATT Fuze code base, I do not have this problem. I get this even when I install the keyboard fix, etc. and I am doing a hard reset after install to no avail. Any help, input, thoughts or shared experiences welcome.
Andrew
I am using PROven's latest 1.4 rom and the battery is amazing!!! I loaded it last night, charged it up around 9pm and at 5pm today I am still at 70%!!!
I've noticed this as well. I first go suspicious when after a long flight in airplane mode the battery drained significantly.
No I am in all day meetings this week so I am trying several combination to see what sucks juice and what does not by keeping the radio out of the equation.
So far it seems that RomeOS is a battery suck while NATF is not. This is with the device doing nothing but sitting there with no radio activity.
I've notice that the stock .32 radio on the fuze is the culprit (at least on MY fuze). After I downgraded to the .28 radio the battery life has easily doubled!
@NRGZ28
Which .28 radio do you mean?
1.02.25.28 - Extract Official Shipped Orange ROM ESN 1.90.75.3??
I'm using ROMeOS with 1.02.25.28 radio and I have pretty good battery life on the Fuze. I've also used some other ROMs here and no issues either in regards to battery. Is your data connection on constantly or is it configured to disconnect after X # of mins?

Your battery drainage, is most likely your 3G or HSDPA connection (that's eating power for sure). S2U2 does not eat that much power.
I have the feeling it uses up lots of power as well. Went from 100 to 0 in a day with minor usage. Will uninstall it and find another one...this sucks

S2U2 weather updates
Hi,
Does anybody know how to configure S2U2 on TD2 with Touch Sense to update the weather status on the lock screen? In settings I used TF3D variant but seems it is not in sync with weather tab.
Here is part of A_C faq conserning power drain :
Q. S2U2 consumes a lot of power?!
A. Make sure there is no music player application running in the background.
A. Use digital clock without showing the second.
A. Don't use GIF wallpapers.
A. Don't use a folder of wallpapers.
A. Turn off "Show Appointment".
A. Turn off "Show Weather".
A. Turn off "Full-screen Battery on top of wallpaper".
A. Turn off "Don't Suspend Power".
A. Turn on "Don't use Keyboard Hook".
A. Turn on "Ignore screen orientation".
A. If any "auto-rotation" application is installed, add "S2U2" to it's exception list.
A. Disconnect the data connection.
A. Update to v2.14 or later.

I'm a truck driver and I'm a heavy user.
I did too before I made the changes below. These all work with the Stock Rom.
1. Installed No Lock (so that I don't have to swipe the screen to unlock, just push the power button)
2. Set screen to turn off in 30 seconds.
3. Installed Brightness Widget (allows changing the brightness from the home screen
4. Installed Screen Filter (lets me really darken my screen at night.
Try those and see how you do.
5. I then flashed the Infused Rom (I now get up to 10-14 hours)

Battery
After much experimenting and monitoring of battery use I find that the biggest drain is the screen display, so go to settings-->display-->brightness and lower the screen brightness as low as you comfortably can. Also when you you are not using the phone make sure the screen is off, I have trained myself to automatically hit the power button every time I put down the phone. If you listen to music through your phone make sure the settings on your music players allow the phone to play when the screen is off and turn the screen off while it plays.
GPS also drains the battery, so I keep it turned off when I don't use the Nav. When I use the Nav I know the battery will drain at a rapid pace, nothing you can do there, even if I have the phone plugged in to car power while using Nav it still drains the battery! Drains slower than unplugged navigating but still drains.
If your watching videos then your S.O.L. there's really nothing you can do that will increase battery life enough to make a difference during video playback.
I get 10-12 hours with regular use and stock rom. Worst was 8 hours best was 24.
Thanks for all the advice this has really helped my battery

It seems that Samsung ****ed up and included phone CPU/screen/etc usage when measuring battery charge current.
This means that the 600 mA stock battery charge current limit isn't just going to the battery, it's split between battery/screen/CPU. If screen/CPU/etc go above 600 mA (Navigation at full brightness seems to be the most common way), battery starts draining.
It also means that unless there's something I'm missing (which I could be since the MAX8998 datasheet is super-ultra-secret), our phone isn't going to be able to do proper charge termination - if the screen is on/CPU is running, it will cause a falsely high battery charge current reading, which will cause charging to fail to terminate.

look in about phone battery use to identify the biggest battery user, it should be the screen. anything else and there is a problem.
the cell standby may go high on froyo rom, turning on flight mode and turning it off will correct that, it's an android bug.
on gingerbread the android os or android system may hog battery occasionally. some think it is the wifi sleep policy but it pops up on me without setting the sleep policy. the fix for that is to pull the battery for a couple minutes and put it back in and restart the phone.
next manage the screen brightness
install a custom rom, there are issues with certain firmware keeping sensors active wen they shouldn't be.
turn off unneeded sync options (i find that auto fetching my email uses a lot especially with my gmail already set to sync),
use wifi when you use the internet if possible, turn it off when out and about.
monitor cpu useage of apps that are cached in the task manager
kill apps that use cpu
if needed turn the max cpu clock down to 800mhz
set "use wireless networks" for location when possible for general location (limited to city level at times)

Actually, high cell standby is OK if the phone is screen-off often.
Cell standby is always my top user - but my phone is sitting on my desk with the screen off frequently, in a location with weak signal. Weak signal makes cell standby usage go WAY up.
