does this exist - Touch Cruise General

hello all,
does the polaris have tactile feedback or is there a third party app which will provide this?
I have searched and searched but could find any trace.
cheers
Marc

What do you mean by "tactile feedback"? Reporting problems to M$? If so, you can enable this.

if you mean a gyroscope orintation detector like iphone then no i dont believe so

Nope not the function that would rotate screen depending on how i was holding the device.
what i mean is a function or third party app that would feedback when entering text on the screen, niether by making a noise or better still a short virbatration. similar to the LG VIEWTY or the new symbian touch platform that they are developing?
cheers

No, there is no tactile or haptic feedback on touch cruise.
(Like the one you get with xbox controllers ... ...... not in touch cruise though.)
Still, it is the BEST. VIEWTY or symbians ar nowhere close to what TC is.

There is a very old application on this forum from the xda days called "vibrate" which only vibrated when you dial numbers in the phone application. Perhaps the smart people of this forum can extend that functionality to all screen taps, or specific input formats.

Adding a new phone number during a conversation

Hi Folks,
I recently ran into a situation where I wanted to add a new phone number while I was driving and having a conversation over the speakerphone.
I switched to the keypad and pushed the digits one by one as they were read to me. However, there wasn't a way to save them into a new contact.
I was wondering if anyone encountered this problem before. Was I supposed to go to contacts \ New and then type the info? That can't be done while driving... I only wanted to save and a new phone number...
Thanks,

think pressing memo button creates an memo for that conversation
In memo mode there is not keypad

Thanks for the reply.
I also thought of using the memo tool. However, adding comments to the memo is done by using the keyboard or by recording a voice message.
The keyboard isn't as comfortable as the keypad, and in fact, I can't believe anyone uses it during driving.
As for the voice recording, is it possible dial a number that you recorded?
My feeling is that the designers of the phone edition didn't think about usability that much.
Perhaps there is some kind of a 3rd party dialer with more options..?
Can someone please recommend ?
Thanks,

Thanks for the friendly replies. I didn't expect that from senior members.
But anyways... nobody is perfect.
Motorola's car phone kits have had this feature for many years now:
Checkout this one:

This model and many others are designed for use during driving i.e the buttons are very large, and so is the screen among other things. My point is, that I'm afraid PPC isn't yet a suitable replacement, and perhaps this is a limitation of the platform.

my post should be seen as a joke which was why i added the and jk part
OK, cool, point taken.
I wonder how the issue is solved on the iPhone... they claimed the user doesn't need a stylus at all.
Big buttons allowing the use of fat fingers?

Keyboard evolution

Guys it's just me or it is a fact that the progress of windows mobile is really slow?
I mean there are several versions of windows mobile, 6.0 got our before 5.0 was even running well enough (not to mention several bugs in 5.0 that were barely fixed) and I wonder: wouldn't it be better to stick to an OS version for a longer period of time and make it run really good?
I won't go into a debate mac vs pc or anything of this kind, but isn't the standard windows mobile interface a bit boring? I like the iPhone for the innovative interface and design only, or another model I've seen m8 from meizu.
Something should change, not just a fancy gradient in the titlebar and the menubar!!!!!
I have a problem with the keyboards too. The MS sip is the same since 2002 pocket pcs!!! And that is really a lot of time of using the same cra.ppy system, and forgive me for overreacting but I think entering texts is a main concern, we all use these devices mainly as communicators or for various information storage that needs to be edited, moved from a location to another an all these actions require user input...
I know there are lots of experienced users on this forum, so this is a call to all of them , I need their suggestions in what would be the best choice for a text-input software for Pocket PCs?
I was using the SPB keyboard for about 2 years now I really like it, it's just that it covers all my text (yeah, I know it's fulscreen ), and I would like to try some similar variants: concern #1 : it must have big keys or it's useless to me.
Thanks for your time, everyone!
I'm using ZTA4 SIP, it's mainly for Chinese input but also can be used for English typing.
Cheers,
Vibranze
thanks, any link for that?

to bad thats a smartphone OS shown there and not a ppc OS
WM7...

To me looks to be the next zune device, as you can see one of the screenshots where the mp3 is playing. A copy cat of IPHONE definately but nicer feel of the OS we currently use on the kaiser.

Windows Mobile 7 will dramatically change the way we use mobile devices. It will emphasize the use of touch on the device, as well as motion gestures created by using the device. It is, absolutely, Microsoft’s effort to beat back the iPhone, and the iPhone is referenced several times in the document.
Windows Mobile 7 will use touch gestures, similar to how the iPhone does. You will be able to flick through lists, pan, swipe sideway, draw on the screen. A lot of emphasis has been put on making navigation easier and doing away with scrollbars, including a new scroll handle that allows for multiple ways of finding items extremely fast.

Also, row 1 column 2 shows a SIP keyboard. I think this is the PPC version.
Well it certainly looks like more then just a skin face lift, looks pretty darn cool. I hope we can use it on our recently new devices, but when they say that gestures will be controlled by a camera looking up through the screen, i dont know if that applies to device hardware we have now?
Id on' really know how the biotouch stuff works right now
edit: ohh they must mean the actual camera on the back/front f your device that would do that sort of recognition I guess. I just remember seeing this youtube video of a microsoft screen witht hat "shock" technology where the guy said the screen had a a camera under it so it was able to follow all your gestures etc.. perhaps nto the same tech we are talkigna bout here I suppose.
It sure looks interesting. One thing though:
It will feature graphical transitions, subtle effects, and other things to make it more interesting to look at.

My fears are that - as with Vista - it's a lot of window dressing with limited (added) functionality. And for all that window dressing, we need more power. More power means more battery power. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'd rather have a dull looking tool than a great looking gadget.
At this moment, the Psion 5MX that I used to own, beats a WM6 device on functionality. Hands down.

I just have to say, if you read the tech docs, Vista added a LOT under the hood - it's not just an XP "skin." Truth is, I even see a lot of added functionality in plain view as well.

This really doesn't mean anything... just because it looks like a Zune doesn't mean it IS a Zune. As I posted in this thread a month ago (to VERY little fanfare ), MS has an entire department dedicated to giving WM the functionality of a Zune. It's called the "Pink and Purple Project."
The only thing that scares me is that they'll make it SO much like the Zune that I'll lose my Media Player functionality - I remember reading that Zunes have proprietary software and don't use WMP - they're not even "PlaysForSure!" Not sure if that's accurate.
However, can't Media Center convert saved shows to a low quality and sync up with a Zune automatically over WiFi? How sweet would that be for my Tilt!

If you've read anything about Windows Mobile 7 you would know that Microsoft will not have different SKUs for SmartPhone or PocketPCs this time around.
It will be one size fits all. (Probably still in a few different flavors so OEMs can chose one with Office and one without etc, but the general functionality, look and core will be the same)

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I think think this Smartphone vs. PPC argument is moot.
You see, the gestures and touch features (such as dual touch) described in that document can't be done with Smartphones OR PPCs yet. They require the new touch system that the iPhone has (using electricity from your body vs. pressure on the screen), and thus these features (and maybe WM7 entirely) will depend on an entirely new generation of devices.
As such, if WM7 is truly such a huge leap, I doubt we'll see the entire thing released for the Tilt - I'm sure some chefs will extract and add features to WM6, but looks like the Tilt and ANY WM6 devices at this point won't be able to handle that stuff.
(That's not even my $0.02 worth, because there's a distinct possibility that I have no idea what I'm talking about...)
I found this, SEXY

Seeing as the kaiser has no accelerometer, that feature is useless...
And for all you noobs who are going to say GPS!!!, that is no where in hell as accurate as i needs to be to detect in/out in 2 or 3 inches (pulg.)

Make from your pda a webcam

Recentely I was wondering if it was possible to use your windows mobile pda as a webcam. During business trips I always have my mobile with a camera with me. Why buying a webcam...
This is in short how it works (and it is free):
Download mymobiler: http://www.mymobiler.com
Download VH screen capture driver: http://www.hmelyoff.com/index.php?section=8
Start mymobiler and activate your mobile camera
Grab the part of the screen you want with VH screen capture
Now you have a webcam stream which you can use in any program like skype, msn etc..
Look at this video as example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wveANUBUIJM
Instead of using the microsoft remote tool use mymobiler. It is much faster.
PS: You need active sync to communicate with mymobiler
Edited to not hurt feelings
Thanks for the new thread!!

thanks for this thread. this was always something i wanted to do, but was never a big enough of deal for me to remember to search for it. seeing your thread and reading the other linked threads reminded me how cool of an idea this is.
It is easy to say it is old news if one has time to sit around all day long just monitoring what's going on in a website with nothing else to do besides familiarizing oneself with every single item published, every single pda/phone launched on earth.
It is never straightforward to find the right content when one searches. The amount of rubbish one finds is overwhelming. Internet/seach/google, all this is great but it is never that easy to find the right words/sentences to put in a search mechanism, even more so when English is not your first language and the gobbledegook that passes for speech nowadays. It starts for example when you type in dolls in a search because you have girls and want to find gifts and what you get is porn, porn and more porn! Get my meaning. One gets fed up with searching and getting nothing useful.
Besides, other people may have other needs, families to care for, and just a few minutes in hand to spend looking at this great community. Some people may have a life!
Is it that difficult to understand the word solidarity? Or maybe I am in the wrong community? Maybe so! I was hoping not and the big egos could be shelved once in a while. Ou maybe this community is only for, only wants and deserves to be for developers to developers, nothing else.
I too get fed up with people that don't do a bit of leg work first but sometimes, just sometimes somebody can bring something new to the discussion even when cases are old, without reinventing the wheel.
End of rant!
how do you get the camera to show up over mymobiler? I've used mymobiler for a while now but when I turn on the camera (Fuze/Touch Pro) it just shows a blank screen (all black) and same is true with the MS app. It shows me the settings in the camera and the rest of the dialogues but the actually camera image does not show. I realy think it has something to do with the interpretation between your pda screen resolution and the windows screen resolution.
The first thing what comes up is te change your windows screen resolution to for example 16 bit color with 800*600 pixels and see what happends.
You can change your setting in windows by hitting the right mouse button on your desktop. Then choose properties -> Setting.
Pressing F5 in mymobiler could help as well.
This may help as well:

Interesting question. Maybe also usefull for gamers on Topaz who misses hardwarebuttons.
I'm not a gamer, but I also never use the zoombar. So, another function would be a good deal...
It's possible. Here is a thread I started a while ago regarding the HTC Raphael. It basically creates 4 "zones" which are configurable, available for directional control.

I offered my idea to demosten, creator of SensorScroll... and he created it.
I'm not saying that SensorScroll would work with our Topaz sensor drivers, but at least that would give you some hope.
