Polaris sound volume & quality - Touch Cruise General

Hi there !
I've my Polaris since one week now and I'm very happy with except with the sound output.
First, and comparing to the ELF (Touch), I find that the quality of the sound output (on the external loudspeaker) is really bad (in quality and with 2 time less in volume). Tested with a MP3.
Second, when I use the headphone, playing any sound, I've two time less volume into the headphone with the Polaris than with the ELF.
The most strange thing is that with the FM Radio I've a clear and loud volume.
Then I suppose that this problem won't come from the hardware but seem to be the same as by the past with other HTC PPC: A software (system) bug.
F.y.i, I've tested the WOW SRS application. The main difference is that the sound become much "crispy" but don't change anything on the volume.
Anyone have the same problem ? (I really hope )
Thanks for your feedback.

Thx Riconat but as I've explained, my problem "only" occur when I listen a MP3 or any other sound.
With the Radio, it is perfect (without any need to use "AudioBooster" application).

Hows the sound quality and loudness on a call on the speakerphone compared to listening to an MP3 on speakerphone?

I have a rather opposite problem,
When listening to mp3 co audioboster feel a fable,
Fm radio instead feels very low in both headphones and external

Same and much bad as on the ELF.
I also remarked that the voice sound of the TomTom isn't so good (if in this case, I find it sufficiently good).
by the way, I've tested the headset with a phone conversation, no problem, the sound is clear and sufficiently loud.

;-) Sorry for my poor English
What I would say are two things
Comparing to the HTC ELF (Touch), my Polaris is really bad (volume problem) when I listen a MP3. Same MP3 tested on both Mobile (ELF & Polaris), two time more volume on the ELF than on the Polaris. Also the output of the same MP3 on the external loudspeaker of the Polaris is crappy comparing to the ELF (tested with the same MP3 file)
I've also remarked that the sound of the voice of my TomTom navigator isn't so good as I can expect (but I also wrote that this point isn't the most important for me)
I've tested all what I can with a lot of tools.. The volume problem with the MP3 is really one (for me, at the moment) unsolvable problem.
I'll try to open a ticket to HTC by tomorrow and see what they told me.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply, wasnt trying to offend.
My question is more about the speaker quality in terms of actual calls. I plan to use this phone more as a phone and pda than media device. If Im on a conference call, I want to be able to hear my other party on the speakerphone pretty clearly.

Well. Just tested the speaker sound in a conf call. The sound is quite good (comparing with my old p3600 [Trinity]).
That's all for the moment.
As I previously wrote, I'll try to call HTC about my MP3 volume sound (and also quality of the output when the MP3 is played via le Speakerphone.
Keep you informed here as soon as I've more news.

Same problem with me .
Speakerphone works pretty good in conversation and with FM...but Mp3 sound very low. I've tried to increase their volume with Mp3gain...no results.
That's why, it's impossible to set a mp3 as ringtone because sound is too low

Well.. What I propose is that you call HTC on your side and I'll do the same on my side. (I suggest this to all other people that have the same problem). HTC MUST do something to correct this problem.

Tomorrow, I'll send a mail to HTC.
But, I'm not sure that their answer will be helpful.

Well, wait and see

Back to issue. I think that's a bit weird coz my MP3's plays good and loud enough on Mobile Media Player 10 an Audio Manager. In fact, all my notifications were MP3 based.

@reyjabs
I tried to play Mp3 with Windows Media Player and...it sounds no bad at all .
But if I try to set this same MP3 as ringtone...it sounds too low .
Maybe, I have to use a 3rd party soft to set MP3 as notifications with an acceptable level? Do you use this kind of software?

Recording Phone Calles....

Hi there i have noticed that ppl want to record their phone conversation so here is the trick i got from Pocket PC email.
Recording phone calls
Here's a neat trick you can do with your Pocket PC Phone Edition that you probably can't do with your old phone. Did you know you can record single phone conversations or keep track of conference calls with your Pocket PC? This would come in very handy if you would like to remember exactly what a conversation was about, days after the conversation had taken place! Of course, you can also use it to make sure you get what you are promised when you call your telephone company to sort out your account!
Before you do this, you should be aware of the laws in your area regarding recording phone conversations. You should also tell the person you are talking to that you are going to record the phone conversation. Having done that, read on...
To record a phone call, start the phone call as per normal, then once you have started the phone call, open the notes application (tap the button), tap New from the menu bar at the bottom, and tap the button. You should see the recording bar at the bottom of the screen.
Simply tap the record button to record the conversation.
You may get variable results depending on the device you are using, and may not be able to use this at all on some devices - particularly older ones.
... or you can just press a record button after establising a call.
On most devices this would record only sound coming to microphone, so other party sound volume would be low. This has been discussed several times before.
also it does record only in WAV files & still the recording length is limited to a certain maximum length!
recording phone calls
Seems to me that what people would like is (NaturalRecorder)
http://www.naturalwidgets.com/products/naturalrecorder/
But this is only Compatible with Nokia Series 60
unless some one knows how to adapt it
if i am recording a call using the Notes application i can hear my voice ver clear but i can't hear the other end.. how to improve that?
this method does not work with magician

Guys, I've just had a thought about this problem (recording/playing sound from/to the phone)
How does the bluetooth profile work? This is redirecting audio through the bluetooth stack to the headset.
Would it be feasible to write a dummy bluetooth profile that would merely redirect audio in/out back to the local device, so that we can record it etc?
V
I once recorded conversation using Resco Audio recorder V 3.2...one can listen the other party sound.. relatively better than the notes application...
But I guess this will work much better in quiet surroundings..
Have anyone tried Simbsoft Voice Recorder?
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...latformId=2&N=96806&productId=118218&R=118218
Anyone any thoughts on the bluetooth profile idea?
Concensus is that it is not technically possible otherwise to record the phone through current software and drivers; I haven't tried other recording software, but that's not what I'm talking about...

It could work if someone can write a virtual BT driver, which would actually buffer the incoming & outgoing audio streams & write them to a WAV or MP3 file..
By the way, Resco Audio Recorder can record both parties in a conversation! I just tried it now on my JAM
ezzkht - re buffering Audio, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. I know some of the guys on the board are working on a bluetooth stack replacement. I guess I better post a new thread on this subject.
Re Resco: is it recording internally, or through the microphone and speaker? eg, is it dependant on how loud the phone volume is?

(RESCO) It does not depend on the volume of the phone! thats why i liked it 8)

this would not work. GSM audio outputs are physically connected directly to BT chip and data does not go through any driver.
mamaich - thanks! Didn't know that. What do you think about Resco audiorecorder recording both sides? I've not heard of that before.
V
Thanks mamaich! I never knew that
So how could Resco Audio Recorder capture both streams together..?
BTW, as far as one-button recording start is concerned, you may want to check out the "One-button recording? Does it need to show the app window?" row in the article "Everything you may need to know about sound recording on the Pocket PC": http://pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/112005SoundRecorderApps.asp
Almost all sound / audio recorder applications know this trick.
Go get PMRRecorder at http://www.1800message.com/SPWM5CallRec.cab
It works very well on my Universal! It automatically records calls! I take the recorded files and have my secretary transpose them to text. Audio level is very good.

What about caller id names from phones contact list?
Does the caller name show up on the headset for incoming caller id

Still think it's one of my best buys in recent years though
You are right! Got one from Expansys this morning and soon after charging fully it has been hanging around my neck tuned in to FM. Sound quality is also good.
Using it with Atom. No names adre displayed.Hope a solution is found soon.

Hi,
I just bought the HS-12w. Paired it without a problem with my Magician (using the a2dp patch). The problem is the hissing sound at the high end when playing mp3s ... I don't know if this is because of the headset itself or because of the magician and the patch ((

WM6 and A2DP

Hi all Gurus!
I was planning to get myself a Jabra BT8010 and plan to get it working with WM6 installed XDA MiniS.
Generally, how is the sound quality of BT A2DP as compared to normal headphones? Are there many issues in BT Stack of WM6 that might prevent nice music experience?
Also, has anyone tried BT8010 with WM6 Orwell's rom? and got it working perfectly fine?
And can we just jot all the issues/problems/solutions faced with WM6 (whether Orwells or PDAViet) and A2DP here in this thread?
Mods, the specific threads are all scattered so I thought I would start off this thread specifically for WM6 and A2DP. Please delete this thread if this topic doesnt require a separate thread.
thanks,
Sid
Works fine on mine with a Sony Ericsson DS910, and an iTech Blueband.
It has AVRCP also, so with the DS910 it supports all the controls.
Quality is probably about the same as A2DP from my K800i, but it is all quite memory intensive, so if you're low on ram it will stutter like a bastard.
i had the PDAviet 3 WM6 and the xound quality on mine was okay..its just a cheap think i bought on ebay that you plug your own headphones into. its eem sto lose some base and sound a bit tinny compaired to the same headphones plugged into my 8125 directly, but that could just be my BT receiver.
I have Nokia HS-12W and the music quality if good with same gaps in music but the quality in voice is very bad!
The voice is like talking from far!!!!
If someone solve this problem please tell us!
Im Using my Mono SE headset to listen to movies etc on the go and have noticed a bit of a drop in quality from WM5 to WM6, It seems to crackle more on WM6.
Bluetooth range is very good though, I was on a call the other day and someone came to the gate so I got up and went outside still talking on the headset only to realise my Wizard was still on my desk 10 meters away

I use iphono mini with WM6, quality in music is quite good (similar as WM5) once you add the bitpool registry key to 40 (before a lot of skips).
But used as hands-free has quite bad quality, at least in my case most of the times I have to disconnect the bluetooth and use the phone.
Perhaps the Jabra are better in this aspect.

Got My Jabra BT8010!
Hi All,
I got my Jabra BT8010 working with the WM6. I am pleasantly surprised with the voice quality. Music thru the stereo headset is also excellent, but sometimes the songs seem to slow down or plays fast randomly.
I tried overclocking, but it did not do much good.
Has anyone faced this? this doesnt happen everytime.Just randomly, the speed of song increases or decreases. Any pointers in this?
Further, Anyone knows how do I activate cyberon voice dialling thru this? The MS Voice commander doesnt work well with Indian names :-(
Thanks for the help...all. I also filled the petition for XDADEV to allow storing the ROMs at this site!

Give this cab a shot. My buddy uses it on his Mini S, says it works wonders. I don't have a a2dp headset yet. I forget what brand he has, it's a something-com I think, the one that folds up.

I got it today.
The damn thing took forever to charge the first time.
I have to say I am very impressed with this thing. Works out of the box with WM6, so far no issues whatsoever. The sound quility is not audiophile level, however it is a lot clearer than I thought it would be!
I was listening to some songs that i have only heard on my crappy laptop speakers and they are awsome. I can hear a lot of things that I couldn't hear before. The bass on these is great.
the best part is that they were only like $60 US, that is less than I paid for my Jabra BT800 a year ago.
I Give the BT620s a 2 thumbs up!!!!!
btw no A2DP fixes have been applied to the Mini S, I am using PDAViet 3 so I am not sure, actually there may be some tweaks in that.
Using A2DP on pdaviet3 with the itech clip IIs headset works great for me:
PROs:
- no skipping after 20 min of mp3 playback
(EDIT: it does drop audio for one sec about 1-2 secs after initial playback, but then resumes)
- not wired headphone sound but pretty darn close
- seamless music pause/resume with incoming calls
- no problems at all with MS Voice Command
CON:
only one so far - people on other end when asked about sound of MY voice said it was a little distant/tunnel sounding (but this is more due to the mic location on the itech)
That being said, I've just "reverted" back to faria's 3.3 rom. Today screen with SPB Pocket Plus/Diary combo seems snappier.
i have wm6 and sonorix OBH-0110, and sound quality if awfull comparing to PC connection with toshiba bluetooth stack. and some cooker said that wm6 bt stack is alot worser then wm5 one.
Hi All,
I dont have this location on my WM6 Orwells: "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Bluetooth/AD2P/Settings/"
The "Settings" folder and the subkeys are not there. This location was there in WM5 while it isnt there in the WM6. Does anyone know where it has been relocated?
And any settings for A2DP skipping and Music playback speed uneven-ness?
Added those bitpool registry keys but they seem to have no effect. How can I improve A2DP sound quality in WM6?

Yes I created those manually. Now I use Molski's AKU3.3 Crossbow style rom and sound quality improved alot. Still not on the same level as a wired headset but much better nonetheless. As soon as there is a better WM6 rom with working A2DP tweaks I will upgrade again.
An Update,
I used this A2DP fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284974
and skipping went away. Also, music quality reduced.
I uninstalled the fix, and I have the quality back, but songs have started skipping again.
Cant MS provide for a better BT stack in WM6 with all their development prowess??
Would going back to some stable ROM like Molski's or Farias WM5 help?
Faria's WM6 and A2DP
Another update....sighhh
I updated my Wizard to Faria's latest fully loaded WM6. The skipping reduced a bit, but thats about it. The Music speed is still intermittant.
Seems like I wouldnt be able to enjoy this gift. Why cant things just RUN....
I am guessing, changing ROMs wouldnt help...or would it? Does Widcomm stack work on WM6? Anyone with this experience?
The next ROMs I am gonna try are:
1. WM6 MBE
2. Farias 3.3 AKU
3. Molski's WM5
After that i will try selling my Jabra BT8010.

Anyone figure out a cause behind the intermittent skipping and speed fluctuations when playing music over bluetooth? I'm using the XDA Mobile 6 release 2a ROM with my BlueAnt X5i headphones. Everything works for the most part. But about 10 to 15 minutes it will drop audio for a few seconds, then start back up again. Annoying but I can live with it.
What's really irritating is the fluctuations in playback speed. For some reason playback tends to speed up every 5 minutes or so. When I skip ahead or go to the next song and it's fine. Then the issue recurs again in 5 minutes... repeat cycle.
I've tried using different mp3's of different bit rates and that doesn't seem to have an impact. I've also tried different players - WMP, TCPMP, GSplayer, Mortplayer, etc. All seem to behave the same way when it comes to variations in speed during playback. Any ideas on this one????

Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Stereo Headset HBH-DS970

Any tweaks to make it better?
I'm on the verge of buying but unsure of how good it is...
I have them, and they work very well, caller id is shown, but only the number, not your actual contact name, and when you play music no info is displayed, too bad, i would have loved these extra functionalites, but apparently they are not supported, but its still a great headset, specially if you have a pc with bluetooth and you can have it paired with the pc and the mobile at the same time!

Hello, mine is working fine with phone (music re-start after a phone call), I can use all functionnality of this device (except forward and backward for music) but ther is too much "crush" when I listen to music (small "hoels" in the music); it seems to be due to A2DP...

Bcross white, I get the same problem with the Motorola Sound pilot S705. when playing a music every 3s it cut for ~1s. So I can't listen the music.
Update : After reset it is working fine. I was wondering if it was not because I was sync over BT at the same time. My only last pb with a2dp is that the sound is bad and I'm still trying to enhance it.

If you turn on the stereo function (Change the registry), then it skips every 30 secs, legit or not it still does it.

[Q] microphone broken ?

i opened my new transformer yesterday and loaded skype. tried voice chat and no-one could hear me. the sound recorder app shows slight movement if i tap the case where the microphone is, but bellowing into it shows no reaction. external headset mic works fine.
Is there some setting for input levels i hav'nt found yet? I would hate to be missing something obvious. Or should i just send it back
I think the built in microphone may be crap, I have fantastic results with voice recognition on my phone with a very small margin of error in recognition, on the transformer, the recognition is terrible.
I hope that it is a software issue where the settings can be changed to increase sensitivity.

the blue security tabs on the box were open, i thought my wife had opened it to check when delivered but she hadnt. I have sent it back to amazon and they are sending me a new one first class post, fair enough, it did seem a little second hand on close inspection. hopefully mic will work on the new one.
thanks
I had the same issue when I got mine, the mic was completely useless. After I rooted and installed Prime v1.4 everything works fine. Im assuming its an issue like the speaker imbalance where there is just an incorrect value somewhere in the code for mic gain or volume
Yeah, mine is crap too. I keep trying to do voice search to no avail.
I love this device, but man, it looks like they picked some really cheap parts for some items. Both my microphone and light sensor are not nearly sensitive enough to be usable, it's almost like they are just there to pad the spec sheet.
I find this so annoying, because previously I had a Nook color that I sold off because I wanted a true tablet, one with real Android support and such niceties as GPS, camera, microphone, light sensor, vibrating mechanism and notification LED that the Nook didn't have since it was designed as a e-book reader.
Now I find the Transformer has no LED (at least Nook had one on the cable), no vibration, light sensor and microphone that may as well not be there...
update
well i returned it saturday morning. new one arrived monday afternoon. great service amazon. anyway microphone works fine on this one so im happy everything else seems to be working ok so will see how i get on with it
when I record my voice in high quality I hear something like :
chchchichchch chchilly chchentenches and chcho bad chchound*
*(six silly sentences and a so bad sound)
I don't think it is a microphone problem, cause even with a half dollar microphone, sound can be better, no?
mic technology has not changed much in a while...its a commodity part that is bound to be afflicted by quality control and configuration...since there's an issue with the speakers it might also signal an issue with the Mic config

I think I agree.
If I put my mouth right next to the microphone, it will record my voice in an audible manner though not amazing quality. But it's not good enough for like voice searching or typing, not on my Transformer at least.

did you try to record your voice? the result is like under the water and the "s " sounds like "chchch ".
I tried a stereo bluetooth headphone with microphone integrated and the microphone isn't recognized. did somebody else notice the same.
the only satisfying way to chat or record with a correct sound is to use ordinary headphones with Microphone and it's not practical.

I did try to record my voice, that's how I arrived at that conclusion! Previously I had only tried to do voice inputs and failed, and just assumed my microphone was totally broken.
If I speak right into the microphone, then I can hear my voice okay... it's not distorted, just not amazingly clear. But this isn't really feasible, unlike a phone it's pretty hard to talk right into a tablet's microphone.
I haven't tried pairing Bluetooth headphones since mine broke before I bought the Transformer, but it should work for the microphone as well. You should check the Bluetooth settings page and make sure your Bluetooth headset is set to use both media and headset profiles, you need both to get audio playback and recording.

Ah, no clue then, sorry.
I was big on Bluetooth headphones but recently gave up on them as I found them too much hassle to use. Now I have a USB headset for the computer, it's great except that it won't work on Android.

on my laptop I use integrated microphone. works perfectly. on EEE pad I could use ordinary headset that works OK but imagine each time somebody wants to chat with you, finding your headphones , disentangle the wires and then answer. I confirm we live in the 18th century

We should all put some video on Youtube showing the microphone quality recording for example on 44'000 sample rate. This would make people think before buying that crap, and maybe ASUS will try to change that.
I'm really furious about Microphone quality. voice search is impossible and chat is really hard
I was using spashtop and tried teamspeak to test the mic. No one heard anything. When I used my bluetooth stereo headset and mic, it was fine. I have not tested further and am not sure if that was a spashtop thing or the mic completely failing, but since seeing this thread, I guess I should check it.
I swear the mic almost seems like it's been fixed in 8.4.4.11 update.
I just did a test using the built in voice recorder app, and speaking at a normal distance it recorded my voice pretty well!
Voice search still seems less than perfect compared to my Android phone, not sure why this is. But the mic itself is now recording sounds as well as one can expect of any mobile device.

Are you running on Stock ROM?
for me there is no difference of quality. try google search with a wired headset and you'll see how it is running fine.
