Missing HTML in email - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

How come everysince I flashed away from original I can not get pictures via HTML in email.
Originaly I could view pictures within my email but with the cooked versions I can not.
It does not even download the pictures as attachments soI can view them seperately.

I would like to know this as well.

What email account are you having problems with? POP/IMAP/Exchange/LiveHotmail???
Exchange requires you have Exchange 2007 for HTML. POP and IMAP work fine for me (tested with both GMAIL and Hotmail Plus).
Windows Live is another story all together. If you are using Windows Live to get your Hotmail/Live email on your Kaiser, then you need to make sure you have your email settings set for HTML and I also recommend changing the Character count to 30,000 (which is the max). For some reason this 30,000 character limit constantly causes problems with HTML email coming through properly on my Hotmail emails.

I am using standard POP
FOr some reason I xheexked one email and presto pictures.
Not sure why this one worked and none of th eothers did ???

Free pushmail service

I'm looking for a free pushmail service for my HD2. Somebody can help me? I have tried some but they can not work correctly with WM 6.5.
Gmail works fine for me. Besides the actual GM account, I also duplicate some other GM accounts to it & it checks / collects mail from still further other non GM accounts.
ive also been looking for one for ages. My symbian friends are quite quick to put down my htc hd 2 because it doesnt have free pushmail service. XDA-developers have solved 99.9% of my probs. I hope it goes up by 0.1%
Thanks in advance. I love this website!

I see that you are on Tmobile UK. Do you use the standard web'n'walk for this push service?
I've never got proper push from Google to work with Gmail.
I use Gmail to forward to my Hotmail account, which is then picked up on Windows Live.
Works great!
just use google sync to push gmail
Gmail works great on my HD2, you just have to correctly set the account in Active Sync :
Server : m.google.fr
Mail : [email protected]
Pass: Your password (And check the box to store it)
Domain : Left blank
Then you can choose to synchronize Contacts, Calendar and mail but be sure not to check task (Otherwise you will get an error while syncing).
Then in Active Sync you have to set when the phone will check for new items, you have to say "when new items arrive" and check the box to allow while on Edge and 3G.
Normally every thing should work great.
I get mail quite quickly and my calendar and contacts are always up to date on the phone, the computer and the web!
the prob is i dont use gmail. i use hotmail and my work email is being hosted by mail2world.net so i need those to work. Im sure there is a free pushmail server for winmo i just havent found it yet.
Try www.momail.com . It works great for me

I am on T-mobile UK, I do have standard WnW.
Push Gmail works fine on my HD2 both T-mobile 1.43 & HTC 1.66 (as it did on my old TytnII).
I simply followed these instructions to access my email
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
Actually my ISP is Sky who email service uses re branded Google mail. I have my own domains for email. Because they insist on tagging my outgoing mail address/domain with their moniker, hardly professional, I use a 3rd party SMTP server (from the Skyusermail forum) for outgoing mail. All set up from within the HD2 messaging utility & transparent in use with no additional input.
I only sync my mail to Google. For privacy, Contacts, Calendar, Favourites & OneNote I sync to my Vista32 computer via USB (upgrading to Bluetooth in a couple of days). I found, when INITIALLY setting up the PHONE syncs, I have to add them ONE TYPE AT A TIME in sequential syncs, or it fails After the initial set up, it behaves correctly syncing all automatically together.
As far as what that Pushed Gmail account reports, I went into its web control panel and got it to collect incoming mail from MANY other accounts. I now have a PUSH one stop shop, when mobile, for about a dozen entirely separate email accounts!
I no longer need an office to run my business affairs. I can run everything from my mobile. Huge overhead saving and much more leisure time. My business now interrupts my leisure pursuits instead of vice versa.... Worthwhile trade off for me.
I also have a few other email accounts being checked every few hours. Also my HD2 is hooked up to Windows live / Hotmail. (Need to reinstall Skype.)

Refreshing with POP3 Mail

Hi,
Coming from a Windows Mobile device, I'm used to any email headers / part email that has been downloaded on my phone dissappearing (deleting) once it is no longer on my POP3 server.
Ie - It collects only the first 1kb header fine. If I wish to view the whole mail, i can choose to download the rest (which works). However, when my PC collects and removes the mail from the POP3 account, my windows mobile device when refreshed used to delete any part emails downloaded that were no longer on the POP3 server.
This way, my phone always showed (and only showed) non-collected mail. (Non collected meaning not yet collected on my PC).
Is there setting or method that I can use to have the same thing on my Android. I don't like the idea of having to delete (literally) hundreds of emails a week from my 'droid. I only want to view those not yet on my PC.
Thanks
Adza
From what I can tell it's not possible to do with the standard software.
I've tried K-9 and while it does what I want in that area, there's no option to download only xxx Kb.
I've installed a program from SEVEN (in BETA) which appears to have all the features, except that it's still in BETA, and it wants to send an SMS message to them everytime I add an account.
Sure is a nice app though.

Exchange questions

I am new to Android. Have been a longtime WindowsMobile user. The Captivate has a menu to synchronize with exchange including mail, contacts and calenders. I got mail to work, but contacts and calender do not synch. I would assume it is officially supported since it is in the menu. Has anybody else got it to work, meaning can you pull contacts and calender from your exchange account down to your phone?
Yes, mine works fine. Is auto synch off under menu/synch?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mine is working fine too. I went in and disabled the Contact synchronization and it looked like everything (mail, calendar, contacts) is all enabled by default. I think I remember seeing the settings when I initially set it up too. Go into your calendar and then into the settings and make sure it is displaying your exchange calendar. Same thing with the contacts.
Mine works great. In fact a little tooooo good. I have it syncing with my Google contacts and my exchange contacts. . .
One note. The client on the Captivate is not a full exchange client. That's apparently an Android V2.2 feature. That means there are some features that worked on my BB and my Nokia E72 that don't work on the Captivate. The most notable, and irratating is any http link embedded into an appointment note is treated as straight text. So if you have an airlines check in appointment, or link to a map - you can't just click on it and have a browser take you to the link. . . .or at least I haven't figure out how to make that work yet.
ok. The whole Activesync exchange seems very screwy on Android. I deleted exchange account and re-added it. Now, I can see and synch all my contacts, but I only get some of my calender items. I downloaded TouchDown, and via Touchdown I can sync my email but I do not see contacts or calender. I am pretty techsavvy, so this just baffles me.
Is it possible to look up a name against the GAL/company address book with the stock android client when composing an email message?
I have been able to "Lookup" emails through the GAL. Simply type a name in the To Field, hit search. You are taken to a new screen where you can do a lookup. One note though. I have not seen FULL integration with the GAL. For instance, our company has Email, Direct Dial, Fax, Cell, Address all entered in the AD. This makes it easy to look up phone numbers. Cant seem to get that to work in the phone search
having issues sending appointments from phone
I'm using Exchange and stock email client. I've tried to send meetings to people in my GAL, but they never receive the invite. Anyone else having the issue?\
This is a known issue with the captivate. Hopefully there is a fix on the way. It was supposed to work seemlessly out of the box, but there are some problems.

Exchange in new Froyo 2.2 JI6 ROM

It appears that the stock mail client in the new 2.2 ROM has fulll Exchange Support. I was able to do a remote wipe of the device from Outlook Web Access. Once I intiated the wipe on my computer my phone rebooted and formatted itself. I then received the following email:
The remote device wipe has completed successfully.
The remote device wipe you initiated from the Mobile Devices Options page on 10/1/2010 10:16:04 PM is complete.
Device type: Android
Device ID: androidc1773342835
Note: To sync with Microsoft Exchange, you must remove this device from the list in the Mobile Options page.
Otherwise, for security purposes, your device will continue to clear data if you try to sync again.
Also, the stock mail client now has the ability to move email to folders.
Seems to work well.
i cant get my [email protected] to works on push email. it only works with polling.
Some other changes to Exchange email:
Phone numbers in emails are selectable, but not in calendar appointments (still). Now it is no longer possible to go into edit mode on calendar appointments you don't own - so no way to cut/copy/paste phone numbers into dialer.
Still no support for Exchange groups - but google groups work - they have to be created on the computer.
GAL is the same - no way to access phone number (that i can find) only email lookup.
Email search is only on the handheld, not on the server.
PIN lock works, but no way to set time. It seems immediate, so either on or off, but it does take the place of swipe to unlock.
Stock email seems almost as fast as lagfix email - so moving through and deleting is much better then 2.1
Do tasks sync yet? If not, I can't believe it. Why is it so hard to sync tasks?
Also, does this support HTML email? I know touchdown does this but the stock email in 2.1 does not.

I went ahead and updated to the Froyo leak and am now having issues setting back up my Exchange. I removed the devices from the mobile options page.
When I go to setup Exchange on the phone, it successfully re-list my device on the mobile options page but fails on the email setup. Any ideas?
Error: "Setup could not finish: Cannot connect to server"
Mobile Options Page:
"Status: OK
First Sync on: Sun 10/3/2010 3:19 PM
Device ID: validate"

You have to use m.hotmail.com as your exchange server address and use your email address as username. You need to do manual setup instead of letting it auto search for it.
BTW, the Froyo email client also takes away the sync schedule and sync size options. There is no way to turn off email sync during night time
On the plus side, you can add more than two exchange accounts now.
If you have email being moved unread on server to specific folders, does it show up on the phone client?
I have folders per person in my company. I have setup rules to automatically move unread messages to their folder. Will these messages show up on my captivate?

Why do you say 2.1 doesn't support HTM email? I get HTML messages all the time and they show up like HTML - I don't see tags as the email is rendered. If the email client didn't support HTML, then you would see all the brackets and tags as plain text.
Could be a server setting is not telling your phone to treat the email as HTML.

That is exactly what I see. If I use Touchdown, it works perfectly so I know it is not my Exchange server. I am using Exchange 2003.

There is still no setting to control which folder sync automatically. So if I go into my Junk folder - it is empty unless I refresh. When it does sync, the unread emails put in the junk email folder via a rule, show up as unread.

Not really. EAS protocol requires client and server to negotiate protocol versions. If either client or server does not support HTML, Exchange server will strip off all the HTML stuff and send only the plain text email body to the client. So, no, you should never see HTML tags in Exchange client. So the only way to tell if you're reading HTML email is to check out the email with embedded images or different fonts on different part of the email message.

I was just trying to get OP to explain why he thinks HTML mail wasn't working under 2.1 - maybe he is using the Exchange client with a non-Exchange server. If you don't see tags, but you do see pictures, there are clickable links that don't look like URLs, and there are colors and shading - then HTML email is working. It worked fine for me in 2.1.
I was also thinking of the case of forwarded emails or originating servers where the mime type is text but the content is HTML - Exchange is going to pass it through with all the tags in the plain text - so it would look like the client is not rendering it.
Showstopper - found by Ogar1978 and I just confirmed it.
Forwarding and Reply in Exchange losses all comments that were not part of original email. Althoug i had one reply go through with my comment but not the original text.

It doesn't work that way. I never, through many email clients and mobile phones, receive any emails look like what you described.
HTML email is designed to be backward compatible with plain text email so that the situation where you described will never happen. The main message body is contained in the email text while all the tags, images are attachments. An HTML capable email client will have to re-assembly email text with the attachments to reconstruct the HTML page out.

I can promise you it is not working for me at all. Not in 2.1 and I just upgraded to 2.2 and still does not work. I can load Touchdown and when I select the "html email" option, I see it exactly as I see it in Outlook with images and all with no tags or URLs. I would use Touchdown but I prefer the integrated email with stock so I will have to deal with it I guess. Attached is an example. I have removed Touchdown so can't prove to you that it does work.
New background colors in mail
This is a nice new feature in 2.2 Froyo... you can change the colors of the background now. Before there was only one choice, now many others. I like dark backgrounds.
Unless you're only reading Chinese or Japanese, you'd better stick to the default white background. Any other color scheme will cause word breaks apart in the middle when ever it reaches the edge.

Deff. a showstopper for anyone trying to use the phone as at a corporate level.
I am going to troll the I9000 boards and see if the froyo they have been running has the same issue and if so if there has been a fix.

Exchange 2003 does not support html email via true push. Iphones and touchdown uses a different methods to download emails. I believe they use the owa to download emails differently than stock clients. It is not true push. you need newer exchange 4 true html pushing with stock email clients. Varying of course the client can handle html.
I have noticed that I am still having a problem with emails sent internally that are missing the @domain.com. We have emails generated by web programs that are sent as just the user name. These come to my phone as "null". Very annoying. Can't reply to them without knowing who sent them.

Email removed after PC download.

Hey guys,
I'm on Windows phone temporarily while my HTC OneX is being fixed.
I'm having a frustrating problem with my email on a Nokia Lumia 610.
Using a POP account the windows phone downloads my emails without any problems. But, once I download the same emails on my PC, the windows Phone decides to remove(from the phone) the same emails rather than leaving copies like both Ios & Android. This is highly frustrating when forwarding Airline tickets or schedules you want to save for later reference. Today I missed a bus because of it. Thanks Microsoft
Anyone know how to fix it? The email settings seemed too dumbed down to be of any use.
Cheers.
First suggestion would be to use an email protocol that is merely old, instead of completely obsolete. POP3 is from the 80s, and it shows. Does your provider seriously not offer IMAP access? There are plenty of perfectly good and free emails providers which do... Some of them will even pull email from other inboxes for you.
Second suggestion, if you absolutely must use POP3, would be to make sure that both the phone and PC are configured to "Leave a copy of messages on the server" when downloading. My best guess as to what's happening is that your PC is configured to download and remove the messages from the server. Then, when your phone syncs with the server again, it sees that the messages it had previously downloaded were deleted from the server, so it deletes the local copies as well.
That's exactly what is happing. I just think its the wrong way. Even my old Nokia dumbphone from 5 years ago left copies of downloaded emails on the phone. As does the Iphone & Android.
Thanks for the help anyway. I don't think Imap is an option.
Gmail, as one example, supports IMAP (for free) and I believe it can retrieve mail from a POP3 server for you too (although I haven't tried). Alternatively, you may be able to set up your POP3 account to forward mail to a Gmail account. IMAP really is just a superior protocol.
Is there some reason you're not keeping the messages on the server after download? I guess I can see why you'd prefer that the phone not remove messages that were removed from the server, but given how little synchronization is possible in POP3 anyhow, I actually think that behavior is better than nothing (although perhaps it should be configurable and for some reason isn't).
I was able to switch to IMAP, but my WP is still deleting the mails after the PC downloads them. UGH.
If I let my PC email client leave the messages on the server, it will constantly re download them. (I think).
I'm sure this is a WP problem/oversight as multiple other devices work correctly.
If your PC email client constantly re-downloads message that it itself has chosen to leave on the server, you're using a truly outrageously bad email client! Even with POP3, it's quite possible for a client to list the messages on the server, and then only download the ones it doens't have. This is how all major email clients work (Outlook, Windows [Live] Mail, Thunderbird, Apple's Mail app, the WP7 email client, etc.) Even better, though, would be to also use IMAP on the PC client, as that way you could truly keep things in sync between the phone and the PC (for example, if you read a message on the phone, it would be makred as read on the PC when you got home, and if you send a message on the PC at home, it would be visible in the Sent Items folder on the phone too).
