Android on smartphone or ppc?? - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

I have seen they are working on this on a few different sites. Does anyone here no anything about it yet? I figure if anyone is going to do it, it woll be someone here..Here is a link of someone doing it on a mda 3.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/13/firm-shows-off-functional-android-build-on-ancient-htc-hardware/

From what I understood of what I read, it's technically not running it on a smartphone. You run a VNC Viewer on your phone (normally, VNC is software used to remotely control your PC), then setup your PC to feed the Android display to your phone.
So what's basically happening is Android runs in an emulator on your PC, but shows up on your phone.
Because of the nature of the VNC, however, this makes for a very slowly system and means you really can't make phone calls using it.

Oh...is that what they are doing there? I guess I didn't read closely enough. Thanks for the update. I was hoping to flash my Wizard with some mystical android rom at some point....I know............. I'm dreaming......but it would be cool..

Agree... it would be cool. In the mean time, if you haven't already, check out PointUI. I expect it to progress into something really sick (it's pretty cool already).

Oh it'll most likely happen sooner or later...especially considering HTC is planning to release an Android device, which means possibly similar hardware, but it's still too early...

How do you install andriod apps on a tilt 8925?

I downloaded and installed the android SDK with AVD and the drivers for USB connection. I read through their documentation and it should just pull up the hardware change, search where you then browse for that driver... but that new hardware profile never comes up. So how can I install android apps to the Tilt 8925 Kaiser?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer
DaveJ
(I didn't see any posts relating in the threads so far, sry if I missed it)
Thats not a android phone.
It is now
Well I put the android technology on it (a huge part of this site) so it's running like an android phone. So my question is then: Can I put android apps on my android hacked phone? I've seen people posting about how they have but I can't get mine to install the USB Drivers. I tried installing them manually into System32 with no luck so apkInstaller for example won't recognize it.
Is it possible? anyone?
It's probably better to ask in the Kaiser forums or threads from android images packaged for other WinMo devices.
One way we be to upload the apk to a webserver, then download and install it from the browser.
Lol Android on non-Android devices isn't meant to actually be used normally yet. It's more of a toy. Until that side of Android development gets a bit further, I don't think you'll be seeing much of what you can do on your WinMo device.
I'll try that
Ok thanks for the advice. I'll keep trying and post if i get it
Try this: Create a folder on the root of your SD card called AndroidApps, and put the .apk in there. Boot into Android and it should show up
HAH!!!
Well that was easy! I've got it easier than real android havers haha! So much for not being able to do it. Thanks DaveTheGuy. Must have something to do with the name!
Thanks Again!

Ive been looking for a bit with no luck, its really not looking hopeful, but I too would like this if possible.

While I agree it can do it, somethings are just easier in app form I guess, but I will check it out from skyfire when my HD2 arrive
Moved as not software release.
sure you can do it web based. but have you seen the app on iphone?
its amazing. fast. you can go thru stuff quickly.
i hope someone makes one. I will donate.
anyone?
we need someone to make this, the new android has one now. Someone made a custom program and it looks awesome
I think the program is java based, so I am not even sure you can reverse engineer it.
Just wondering if there is still any interest in this?
I have been out of programming for awhile, but was thinking of trying my hand at doiong something for my phone, and figure this might be a good one to start with.
if there is interest in it I will give it a go. Just have to figure out what I need to get to do it..

[Q] port wm6.5.3 to our android device?

I feel like we are only thinking one sided, android devices should be able to boot windows mobile. I would do it but I dont know where to start.
maybe i will try and flash a wm6.5.3 wqvga rom to mytouch 3g and see what happens since they have native capacitative support in the os now.
somebody mind pointing me in the right direction?
wtf would you want windows on this? i would point you in direction of buying a windows device
only for try..i want to try win mob. on my magic..i don't like win but if i can choose with a bootloader if start android or win mob. ............so WoooW
if win mob is hard to port...we can try to port iOs... no??
(sorry for my bad english, i'm italian)
if Apple users can port Android on iFron, why we can't port iOS on Android devices???
I don't like WM either, but i think it would be nice to see iOS on Android...but in my opinion it is impossible.. if it was possible, somebody would do it already..
lele5800, because Android is open operating system, you can modify sources and build it for any device.
iOS and WM are closed..

you see you all miss the strong points of windows mobile. not only could i open view and edit office files i could open and send directly from my email (outlook mobile) i have a mytouch 3g and honestly dont like it even with froyo. the only reason i got this lacking device is because i broke my touch pro2
there are so many things I can do that i cant do on android with out a force close.
and if android is soo "cool" why not run windows mobile for people that need that good office integration for work since jobs are hard to find here in america.
I thought it would be a good idea. android to me is for people who would like to seem smart with out the need of actual know how.
the developers on the other hand seem smart to me remembering all the sudo command lol
but I seen my personal compatibility flaws with android when i couldnt open a docx or a doc file directly from my email and/or save it where I wanted to.
so dont down me for wanting better integration.
android looks nice. thats about it. the keyboard onscreen likes to close on its own and never come back. too often. so please if you arent helping the port dont say that other chitter chatter. cause the **** don't matter.

What the flying **** are you talking about? If you hate Android so much sell your myTouch3G and GTFO.
All the "flaws" your talking about aren't even real issues. File manager? Did you spend 1 minute looking through the market for a file manager app?
Opening the limitation to opening a docx file is part of the design by Microsoft why the **** would they want people to be able to open and edit documents with software that isn't getting them money? And why the **** would you want to edit your docs on a 3.2inch touch screen. FAIL
The Keyboard likes to close and never come back? That has never happened to me. You're using your phone wrong.
So android is for idiots?
Were you any smarter than you are you would have a bunch of apps that do all the things you want them to do. For example DocsToGo is an excellent program compatible with ms office files.
Android runs perfectly if you know what to run on your device. try running windows 7 on Intel 386. Works well, huh?
Exactly, your **** does not matter.
Windows mobile..never again.
Windows Phone 7.. wortha try next month
I only mentioned that some have making something for magic, but unfortunately, certains members instead of providing more, they talk and talk.
I think that is not the purpose of this forum.
your reply does not help its purpose either.

hey tell app for htc hd 2

my cousin just showed me this app for the iphone called hey tell. its a voicemail text app, instead of texting you say a brief sentence and sending like atext and its just as fast as a regular text.also they can do the same. just wanted to know if they have a similar app for the hd 2.
I'm not familiar with hey tell, but Android has voice to text throughout the OS. You can voice to text SMS. Voice to text searches, etc. Of course it goes the other way too with text to voice so that it speaks turn by turn directions.
Android on the HD2 is getting very stable and useable now. It's been my primary OS for many weeks now.

Its called Tellme (see it here.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKWjPONWl_c)
This can crash your phone so install latest microsoft voice command MSVC, it worked on and off for me so gave it the flick but others give it the thumbs up so each to their own.
I dont recomment using that app, can really brick your phone.

Dude man up already! If you can do cht you can do android with your eyes closed. Its really not that hard and because it runs from your sd card there's really nothing that can brick your phone. Once you go android you will not give WinMo a second thought. Trust me. The latest builds of droid are just as if not more stable than my WinMo setup. Battery drain is the only issue for me right now (it's not really that bad but it's not quite as good as WinMo atm) but once we get a nand version this should get better.

BackTrack 5 on Mesmerize

(This is a re-post from Android Hacking and General section; I developed this on a Mesmerize so I can promise it will work just fine on 2.1 and 2.2.1 stock kernels)
Requires a rooted device!
BackTrack 5 installation guides are making their way around this forum. I've tried to synthesize it all, but I've also added my own touches to help with usability and features, along with a workaround for the "ioctl LOOP_SET_FD failed" error message some people have been getting.
In theory this build is nearly universal, so if you have an Android device it should work. I've put it all in one zip file that you can download directly from my website, no hassles or wait timers.
If you are interested have a look, feel free to re-post. Credit goes to the BackTrack team and xda member anantshri (he's got skills, give him props guys), who built the base image file.

BackTrack is an operating system based on Ubuntu Linux that is used for security testing (aka hacking) and digital forensics. I'm a master's degree student in computer security, so I love this OS... it can do awesome things. Turn on your Wi-Fi and you can do advanced network scans and tests right from your phone, no laptop required. For me this is hella-useful.
But besides just being an OS for hacking ****, it's also fully Ubuntu-based, so you can run it like a desktop, including running Firefox and other Linux applications.

I doubt this is possible to do via a phone, but can you crack wifi networks using this?
Wait, so let me get this straight.... this is an ubuntu based os that will run on the mesmerize???
If so, HOW? Dual boot? Or complete rom replacement?

Assuming the Wi-Fi chipset supports it (and it probably does) then yes, you could, but it will take a lot longer than, say, if you had a laptop, since Wi-Fi cracking always involves cryptographic computations.

It still runs pretty nicely, especially considering you are running it on a phone And for what it's worth, having to use VNC as the GUI is often a plus; it's nice to be able to switch back and forth quickly.

Just like an app. Specifically it uses the concept of a "chroot" to run it from inside of Android's Linux kernel. You can even switch back and forth between the two instantly.

Correct, under normal circumstances. I'm going to cover my ass here and remind you that you'll be running this stuff as root, so if you start deleting files willy nilly you can still blow away your Android system requiring a re-flashing.
But as long as you aren't an idiot you'll be just fine, lol.
