Will Polaris ROMs be compatible with XDA Orbit2? - Touch Cruise General

Hi,
I am about to buy an XDA Orbit2 from O2 Germany. I am not a native German and I generally hate localized software. So will the Polaris ROMs be compatible with the Orbit2? I guess some kind of unlocking will be needed again ... but still?...

Why not it's definite the same hardware if HTC don't made changes.

It should. You would need:
1. CID unlock (to flash what you want).
2. HardSPL (to protect your device).
3. Flash your favorite ROM.
All are unavailable yet.

Thanks for the replies. Just what I expected Just have to wait some time...

ROM comparison

Hello people,
I have just purchased the T-Mobile MDA Compact (Magician) on German and I have been visiting these forums for some time now to see if I can get english language. I have noticed that there are many different english ROMs out there depending on who is selling the device (I-Mate, Q-Tek, T-Mobile).
What are the main differences between these ROMs? Mainly I am interested in the following:
1. Is the phone functionality the same for all ROMs? (same quality of voice, ring-tone selection, dialing and SMS interface)
2. If they are different, what ROM would you recommend?
3. Would placing the new ROM lock the phone to a network (I have unlocked version)? (T-Mobile ROM to T-Mobile network)
4. Are other pocketpc features the same for all ROMs (Bluetooth functionality, battery usage, memory usage)?
Thank you.
High i recently got my magician, it was already unlocked (it is branded t-mobile mda) i used t-mobile latest rom and phone was still unlocked (i am with o2 ukl). using this forum i upgraded to the 1.13rom,1.13radio rom and bigstorage. there is a guide on how to do this on this forum. the guide has all the links you need to get the roms and all the software you need to do the upgrade. since i have done the upgrade i have had absolutly no problems and have encountered no problems with the added software i use. battery performance etc is no different to before as i have always found it to be good. hope this is of some help to you
here is a link for you on this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32274&highlight=1+13+rom+storage
Hi, thanks for the reply but the link you've posted is for how to install the ROM. I have no problems with that, I am just wandering about the differences between various 1.13 ROMs out there.
Thanks.

The main differences between differently branded ROMs is the Extended ROM, ie the additional software bundled with the ROM. However by large the software included with each ROM is essentially the same, just branded with different things.
1: Yes
2: Well... they're all really the same! I use the T-Mobile ROM since its the 1.13 I'm most accustomed to BigStoraging (I have a guide on that ).
3: No. No ROMs on this site lock your phone to a specific provider, even the branded ones. Heck, I don't think there are ROMs which implement locks on the phone, but stick with the ones here on the FTP in case!
4. Yes, all the core Windows Mobile functions are exactly the same.

Other WM6 languages than English

I noticed that HTC has released an upgrade software (WM6) to HTC P3300 (Artemis) and the software can also be downloaded in different languages.
Well, being a Finnish guy I'd like to know that if I have Finnish WM6 of P3300 downloaded, can I also flash my HTC TyTn II (Kaiser) with the same software in order to have a Finnish WM6 in it?
Actually it doesn't bother me to use English software since I'm pretty used to it but just for the curiosity I'd like to know whether that same software would work in HTC TyTn II?
WM6 = Windows Mobile 6
Hi,
As i understand, different rom cannot be flash onto different hardware.. It willl brick your device. I think i've read somewhere that somebody (maybe Schaps) doing rom with different language. I cannot point it to you since i'm browsing from my TyTN.

Hi!
I'm currently browsing from my TyTN II since there's something wrong with my WLAN connection :-(
However, could you please post a link to those ROMs when you'll be able to get back to your computer? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Definitions, please?

Hi All:
I would appreciate some help and explanation on the following items. Once answered, I'd be happy to write up a summary that could be used as a "sticky" to help other newcomers!
1. As I understand it, "Cheetah" is the internal code name for the Treo 750, and it was manufactured by HTC (High Tech Computer)?
2. It seems that there is a way to upgrade the Windows version on my 750? It currently has v5.0 (OS 5.1.195 Build 14959.2.3.2). Is there any particular benefit, other than being current) why I should upgrade Windows? Any potential problems?
3. Hermes is the internal code name for devices made by HTC, but NOT for any Treo devices?
4. How does Hermes SPL relate to Treo 750? And what does SPL mean?
5. What is "Hard-SPL"?
6. I've seen references on this forum to some sort of "radio upgrade" or "radio mod" for the 750. What is it, and why do I need/want it?!
7. What is a "cooked" ROM?
8. If I either upgrade Windows, or replace the firmware with a modified one, can I permanently damage (i.e. "brick") my 750?
I know, many questions!
But I am an intelligent techie-type, and yet I feel like I've just walked in on the middle of a foreign-language film with no subtitles!
Thanks

Hi there. I have been using a Treo 750 for about 18 months. While I have not "played" with the ROM on my device to the same extent that others have here, I will answer what I can.

Correct. HTC have made many Windows Mobile devices and the Palm Treo 750 is but one of them. I'd have to say in my experience, having owned and used other HTC devices such as the O2 Xda II mini, i-mate JAMin and i-mate JASJam, the Treo 750 beats the others hands down in both hardware design and software implementation.

Yes indeed! My device shipped with Windows Mobile 5. I upgraded to WM6 when it was released late last year and can say that it offers some very good improvements over WM5.
One of the issues the upgrade did was provide a much more stable radio ROM - phone operation was much improved in my experience, e.g. no more dropped calls, especially when answering a call. There were also some helpful software improvements such as the in-call buttons for speakerphone and mute, etc.
Note that Palm have just removed all WM6 upgrade ROMs from their websites (in the last week). Hopefully you will still be able to find a ROM somewhere on the 'net.

I don't think so. AFAIK the Hermes is HTC's TyTN device.

Sorry, don't know about that. I have seen it mentioned here too but don't know what it means. I have a feeling it is something to do with unlocking a phone from a specific carrier.

Sorry, don't know about that either.

Again sorry, I don't know. There are cooked versions of WM6.1 floating around here for the Treo 750. Palm never released a WM6.1 upgrade for the Treo 750 (although it comes as default on the new Treo Pro) and I have seen references to radio ROM upgrades/downgrades in relation to this cooked ROM. I'd avoid it.

This is a ROM that someone has put together themselves. They disassemle a commerical ROM for a specific device, remove and add components, and then re-assemble and release it to other users. Use these at your own risk!

It's certainly a risk with any modified ROM and has not been something I was ever keen to do. Note that ROMs are device specific so don't try to use one for another device on your Treo. I've found the commercially released ROMs to be reliable and work just fine.
Hope all of this helps.

Well if you havenĀ“t buyed I recommend no to...
If you already buyed expect bad quality and short duration in general.
EDIT: Erased comment after reading Mod after post
It is very hard to flash the device with other ROMs.
They are known to have DIFFERENT hardware (so the drivers aren't compatible). Even the clones are different from each other..
They have different bootloaders, so our methods of hardSPL etc won't help.
Next to that, there is the quality issue, it is not even close to the quality of an HTC device.
So to sum it up:
-bad quality, no support, no availability of cooked ROMs, no warranty..
I would say, stay clear from it!
Regards,
EqX
Thanks guys, you helped me so much, thanks to you I haven't bought it)). The prices difference between original htc and clone is 100$, so i'd better buy an original one

[Q] WM 6.5 ROM on newest phones ?

In order to continue to use legacy WM6.5 applications on the newest phones, is it possible and legal to flash WM6.5 ROMs on current selling HTC smart phones ?
The boot-unlocked models, I suppose. Those listed here on htcdev.com/bootloader
And where can we find support for that ?
Paying for the service, obviously.
Thank in advance
