Hi,
I plan a business trip at the end of this month in the US. Ive currently an HTC P3600 but i would like to buy an HTC Touch. (I prefer the iphone but it lacks business application like Exchange synchronisation).
As i'm in the US, i would like to take advantages of the $/Euro convertion and get direct 40% off my phone.
Question: US Mobile Network and European Mobile Network are not compatible. The US version of the HTC touch is capable of both mode ?
Do you recommend the HTC TOuch or any other ?
Thanks
Ced

What he said, get a GSM phone. Even if it is locked to a carrier you can get it unlocked.

Hello,
I've been seeing in the flee market lots of HTC touch pro (not fuze) that claim to work with North American 3G networks. Are they not telling the truth? I thought that HTC touch pro does not do 3G networks in North America? Or is there another version of the phone that works? I'm talking about HTC touch pro and not the fuze or any other version of the phone.
Thank you.
Allegedly, there are Touch Pros made for the American market.
A websearch will reveal the specs - then all you have to do is lite up the phone and compare to see if it will work in US.
since there is no way of trying the phone since I want to buy it online, is there another way of telling if the phone works on north American 3G network or do I have to take the words of the seller?
Thank you

Ask them for the phone's Model ID. RAPH100, RAPH110, etc.
Once you have the Model ID, you can verify if it supports US 3G.

oh ok thank you
However which model supports US or Canadian 3G? I looked at the Raph_Specs in the wiki and I only found specs for Raphael 800 and Raphael 100; not 100/110. Plus I thought that the HTC Touch Pro has only two versions: the Raphael 100, which is GSM, and the Raphael 800, which is CDMA
Thank you again

The Fuze is RAPH110. Once you find out the Model ID, post it here and I'm sure someone can tell you for sure.
RAPH 110 is the fuze i believe
ok so in conclusion, there is no US or Canadian 3G unless its a fuze... Those that claim to have a touch pro that works on North American Network are scammers. and I'm only talking about the HTC touch pro that has only the HTC logo and no carrier logo. Correct???

A US 3G-compatible Touch Pro may exist. Once you know the Model ID, post it here, and someone should be able to confirm if it will work.
Touch pro
People there is no us 3g version of the Unbranded Touch pro Yet point Blank And FYI The Fuse And Unbranded Touch pro Are the Same phone Just Fuse has no Front Camera And Soft Touch Back other then that The Fuse is the Touch pro Same Speeds And Specs If you Flash the Oem Touch pro unbranded Rom to the Fuse And unlock the Sub Sid Bam there you Go Plus Fuse is Better We have Us 3g and World Wide Hsdpa Hell if i want a Front Camera I will pull out My TyTN II ....Lol
There is the the Diamond Touch (not the Pro) that is compatible with North American 3G. I saw it on www.mobileplanet.com I called HTC direct and confirmed that there is not a North American version of the Touch Pro Other than the Fuze. The will tell you that the Euro Touch Pro has the GSM support but not the 3G.

How about the HTC Touch 3g T3232? I just bought one and i'm having problems accessing the internet through AT&T...
I am only asking cause i don't see any of the new phones hitting at&t as in not UMTS 850 or UMTS 1900. look on pdadb.net it will list all of the new phones coming out not one from htc supports either one of those bands.... am i going to have to switch over to a steve blow jobs phone. Please someone tell me something i don't know.
They never support it on international versions. They always have a separate US version (when they don't skip the US market entirely, like the Touch HD) with those bands supported.
The Touch Pro 2 and Touch Diamond 2 are coming out in the US, and the TP2 is already confirmed as being on T-Mobile, so let's hope it gets announced for AT&T as well, or at least shows up on T-Mobile unlocked.

they supported it on the htc x7500 and the 8125, 8525, 8925, fuze but no more. i think at&t got a big head with the Iphone and doesn't want to deal with htc so htc said fu*k at&t and thus no longer support UMTS850, UMTS1900
Well I'm looking forward to HTC sending some ppc's to T-Mobile, since it's been a very very long 3G wait!

They still support it, as I said. It's just a matter of "international version" vs "US version."
It's likely to protect T-Mobile, AT&T, and whichever Canadian providers use GSM, so less people will import the unbranded international version before they have a chance to release their branded versions.
Since carrier locking can easily be circumvented legally, the only real way to block imports is to not support 3g frequencies in the US. Most people aren't willing to pay $800 for a phone that doesn't support 3g in a lot of places (like the Xperia X1i, which only connects in 3g in about 2/3 of AT&T's coverage area and none of T-Mobile's), or no places (like current HTC phones, which are 2100MHz only).
Hi,
I'm planning to buy a HTC Touch Pro off Ebay but they say Sprint. I'm in Australia, if I flash the rom will it be able to work still?
Thanks.

does your current phone provider use CDMA or GSM
the phone you are looking at is CDMA... if your phone provider is GSM, then NO... if your phone provider is CDMA, do they allow activating ESNs from foreign phones?
My provider is GSM.
If I flash the phone to a new rom, will it work then?
Thanks.
no... the phone is CDMA, but you are using GSM
AFAIK, there is no way of changing a CDMA phone into a GSM phone (someone correct me if i'm wrong)
You are correct to say that there is no way to convert between CDMA and GSM. The underlying technologies are different on a hardware level.
I want to buy this phone on ebay but I have a couple of questions.
I live in CHile so I need the quadband gsm vercion.
1) Can anyone tell me what carries use this? just to make shure, I cant exacly take the sellers word. For example I say a nextel for 300 bucks (about). The seller clames it works world wide.
2) Is the unlock software available already?
Sorry found it!
3) is the fuze and the raphael the same phone? I have seen some that look very diffrent, are they exacly the same just different color. What really looks different is the keyboard.
Thanks

Just to clear something up,
FUZE = GSM this version of the phone released by ATT on their US GSM network (only North American 3g version)
RAPHAEL = TOUCH PRO (both GSM and CDMA)
You will want to find out what frequencies your carrier uses for GSM and 3G (they will tell you, or look it up) and get the Raphael that suits your needs
Currently in the GSM iteration there is the FUZE, which works with North American 3G and the Touch Pro which will work with Euro/Asian 3G.
If you post your ebay link (or PM me or somebody) we can tell you for sure
thanks...much clearer! Searching..searching

Hi,
To be honest, it depends on a few things. First of all, the carrier you're on and if you use 3G... I live in Canada and use Rogers, so I had to purchase a Telstra HD2 to get the 850mhz 3G band, as the TMOUS version does not have the proper bands to run 3G on my network. Alot of people go for the T-Mobile if 3G support isn't an issue because of the extra ROM/RAM and because you can find one on ebay or online for 200-300$ US as opposed to other editions like the Telstra which goes for 500 to 800$ US. Otherwise, as far as I know, they're pretty much the same phone!
If you're not sure which 3G bands your carrier uses, just google "3G band (carrier name)"
Good luck with your new purchase!

Any advise
help plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The ROM size is a nonissue in my mind (unless you have a metric ****load of apps). The RAM is unlockable on the international version. So, I would get whichever is compatible with your carriers 3g band.
^^~. I think i should choose HD2 inter
