Which is best? O2 XDA Trion or EXEC? - General Topics

Hello all,
I am new to PDA's, and I know this may be a stupid question or one that is obvious to the regular users, but I have the offer of the 2 for the same price, and am not sure which to take?
So it comes down to which is best. Is it a matter of which you prefer or is there a hands down best PDA out of these 2.
Edit that should be Hermes or Universal....
Many thanks.....

I was a bit undecided whether i wanted this model as well but it just looks great! I saw a video and some live photos for the O2 XDA Trion and I dont really care how well it works when it looks that good :->

I got the Universal, I picked up one cheap and it is great condition. Thought it was bulky, and the phone is not too good. My friend had a Hermes and he has passed it on to me for doing a job for him. Anyway after using the Hermes for a day or 2, I think the Universal is better overall. The Hermes is great, it is compact ,does everything well. But the Universal is such a good PDA.
Which one to keep? Hmmmmm..

PDA to XDA help please

Hi guys,
I'm a noobie here as my whopping total of 1 posts indicates.
I've been reading through the forum over the weekend and have learned a lot from the posts here. Unfortunately its left me more confused over which XDA I should get. So i'm going to take the easy route and ask you guys.
I've got, and have been happy using an Ipaq H5550 for a couple of years now. Both for work and pleasure, but 'The Powers That Be' now claim I need a mobile as well :?
I've spent a fair bit of time, effort and money on the H5550, what with Accessories, Utils, Apps and Games, which i'd like to keep if possible. So, my question is:
Which XDA would you guys advice as a replacement for my H5550 ?
On spec's my guess is the XDA Exec, but any advice from real world users would be more than welcome.
Thanks ZaForD.
Ah yes the H5550, an oldy but a goody!
Any way, for us to recommend a device we need to know more about your preferences / intended use.
The hottest thing (if you can wait a bit) is the Hermes / TyTN that's about to come out. It's only deficiency is that it is not VGA like the exec.
Personally, I like my Jamin (Prophet) because of connectivity and size and a price that doesn't go through the roof, but some people might say it's a bit slow, and has no keyboard (not that I need one).
And, if you don't mind a big device with a square 240 by 240 screen, there is the HP 6900 that has WiFi BT and GPS (a rare combination in a phone).
As they say to each hi own, so you have to be a bit more specific.
P.S. Welcome to the forum!
Hi levenum,
Oop's, I can see how some info on what features I need/use would be helpful before you give any advice.
Basically, I do mobile repairs, helpdesk/support, for small offices in London. So I need a fairly powerful device to run Network/Daignostic software. WiFi is a must both for connecting to local networks and our office via the Net. BT would be handy for handsfree use, the Ipaq can get pretty heavy when using Skype for a while.
Size isn't really a problem, as i'm used to the H5550. Which from what I gather is bigger than most of the XDA's here. Again the Ipaq has no keyboard so thats not a problem. Neither is GPS, after 10 years as a messenger around London, I think I know my way round.
I'll check out the Prophet and Hermes, the more options the better.
p.s. Thanks for the welcome.
Well now that I know that your main uses are WiFi and Skype I can tell you that Prophet may not be the device for you after all.
It supports WiFi b and g (where a lot of phones only support b) and it has BT, but from what I've seen on the forums it needs to be overclocked for Skype to work smoothly (although it comes with Skype preinstalled).
I haven't tested this my self though.
One thing I forgot to tell you is that there is a comparison chart in the WiKi for different HTC devices, and there is a nice site www.gsmarena.com that gives specs and user ratings on most GSM phones out there today from different companies.
Check it out.
Thanks for your help levenum,
I checked out GSMarena and came up with a short list of XDA Exec, and Atom Exec there was no real info on the Hermes. But I read alot about it here, so I added it to my list.
After hunting round for most of the afternoon, it turns out that the Atom and the Hermes. Aren't really available yet, so it looks like i'll be getting the XDA Exec. Just gotta see whos got the best deals now.
And start working my way through the Universal forum.
Welcome to the forum!
Having had xda's for a few years now, (since the 1st one was released) and in my work testing many new devices, im still delighted with my exec, espcially the screen, but mainly the keyboard and connectivity options. For your uses the mini laptop mode the exec on a desk whilst working, in tandem with the keyboard, you will soon wonder how you managed without one!
Down sides to the exec, as a phone its maybe a bit bulky to use as an everyday mobile (pub, days out without the car etc) but not much worse than any other pda phone on the market.
Hope that helps settle your mind to the exec, you wont regret it i reckon!
Cheers,
Bryson
Hi Bryson,
Thanks for the welcome.
I just saw a couple of comments about the 'laptop mode' while getting very confused in the Universal section.
I have to say I really like the idea of it. I used to use a Thinkpad X21 [lovely little laptop] for work and missed the screen and keyboard when I first swaped over to the H5550. Now it looks like I can have the best of both worlds.
The Exec is around the same size and weight as the H5550, which I usually carry around with me as an MP3 player when not at work. So the bulk shouldn't a problem.
A couple of things i'm still alittle unsure about [due mainly to not having a mobile for years] is how well it works with a BT headset, and is it possible to use it as a phone via the BT headset, while using Terminal Service over WiFi ?
If it can, I may never have to leave the pub.

o2 Orbit

Hello,
I am new to the site and I have just purchased myself an o2 orbit. I am really happy with it but also very keen to understand how I can enhance its performance or tweak it.
Will their be a section for this phone?
Sorry if I am being impatient but I am raring to go.
Has anyone else got this phone yet? if so what have you done with it? Also where can I buy accessories for it?
I look forward to your responses.
Steve

Orbit and TomTom
Hi
i am very new to this thread, so hello and i thank you in advance for any help people are willing to offer.
I am going to be picking my Orbit up tomorrow from my local O2 store. I was wondering if anyone can confirm that TomTom is definately included with the UK models. I have seen on a couple of forums that some people are saying it isn't.
I think your phone is in the Artemis forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=316
Obit
Hi all,
I have never owned an XDA but thought I would put a post about the Orbit that I purchased 2 days ago.
It is an excellent piece of kit .. By default it does not come with TomTom (I was offered CoPilot with a £40 contract but I already had TomTom so I declined. I have put TomTom on the device and it works brilliant .. it seems much more accurate than my palm version (probably more accurate GPS device inside).
I used TomTom for an hour today and my battery went down 2%! Brilliant.
Everything is good about the device .. the only gripe I have is that the microphone socket is mini usb (but I am sure there is a convertor out there for that).
The radio is good too (this also seems to have a minimal drain on the battery).

Suggestionz please!

Hi Reader,
As a request, Id like to ask for a favour in helping me get a new phone.
Been using a HP IPAQ rw6828 for a yr now, and quite frankly didnt disliked it much.Need to change to a WM6.. have had a enough of all the Nokias.
Used the Black N95 for abt a day and got rid of it.
Kaiser TYTN II/ Blackberry Curve or anyone you guys could suggest.
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but didnt found any other forum best suited for this.
Cheerz
I suggest the Tilt....
Thx
Hi Bruv!
1st up thx for the reply!!...I kinda like the black one too... I guess tilt and Tytn II are same... js the weight thing kinda puit me off....
i noe this is XDA PDA forum, but Blackberries are outta liking??
Anyhow... I see you guys breaking a lotta code n making new ROMS... id suppose HTC TYTNII can be tested for a lot of ROMS and softwares.. can it?
tytnII and tilt are identical except for the difference that the tytnII has the front camera while att has cleverly removed that from the tilt.
As far as upgrades go there are a ton of options available here. All depends on what you want and which route you want to go on. Before doing any upgrades though i highly recommend that your read the kaiser wiki.
If you are going to be flashing new roms than don't forget to flash hardspl first to your device; again this is all explained in kaiser wiki so please do read it if you plan on going that far with device.
As far as suggestion i definitely recommend the tilt. It is a great phone/pda/micro laptop and has the capabilities to do alot of wonderful things.
enjoy,
peace
sire
Cheerz bro!...
Will go on wid TyTN II
XDA fo sure roks!

Do you still use your device?

This is just an interest of mine to know about how many of the devices are alive and still being used.
Please answer correctly.
The poll is reserved for the users/owners of:
HTC Universal / O2 XDA Exec / Qtek 9000 / SPV M5000 / T-Mobile MDA-Pro / Imate Jasjar / Dopod 900 / SFR v1640 / Vodafone v1640 / Vodafone VPA IV / Grundig GR980 / E-Plus PDA IV.
.
Of course!
Uni is my main device for working and personal
I use it to read txt files, very nice!
No plans to part with mine
even though I use a second mobile now, hehe.
You see, I always wanted something incredibly stylish, like LG Prada, so had a chance to purchase one in a messy state for next to nothing, repair it, bring it to brand new condition and use it... until I got a chance to get LG KU990 Viewty that was run over by a car, possibly more than once, hehe. So now I am torn between Prada and Viewty... and Uni enjoys its very own separate SIM...
The thing is, the only feature Uni lacks is elegance and grace, while both Prada and Viewty lack features (must add that hacking and modifying Viewty proved to be as satisfying as upgrading WM). Although the camera on Viewty is fantastic, I no longer use my regular Canon or Casio cameras at all, so that's another thing Uni lacks. Other than that - it's one amazing machine!
I also run my other toys for a day or so from time to time, just to keep the button and ROM habit - Wizard, Elf and a whole bunch of various others. And look out for new ROMs for my other toys as they come out, of course.

And O2 XDA EXAC
very handy for lawyers...
I still use my Orange SPV M5000, good as new
Very good for the Medical profession as well. You only need to look at the Voting in the Device poll to see how popular they are as well.

Jay
Qtek 9000 is my best friend.
QTek 9000 love it use it everyday and loosing to much time waching movies and listening to mousic on it. Also thinking what am i going to choose for my next phone. May be a triple e pc with gsm ??? who knows...
Hi Tomal,
meanwhile I use my MDA Pro for about 3 years every day. I use it for :
special studies and research,
telefon,
mp3-player,
video,
PIM
...and a lot more.
Your ROMs are one reason that I did not buy a new ppc up to now.
So, please, proceed in building your brilliant ROMs.
Yesterday I bougth a second htc universal (VPA IV) + 2pcs 64RAM chips in order to try an upgrade to 128MB Ram. I'd like to use your next 6.5 ROM!
So, please go on cooking!
Best Regards,
Thomas
Using mine for main phone/device and will keep using it

Universal is my all in one for the last 2,5 years.
I can get a new device but only with a 144€ discount. I don't want to pay 400€ more to get the HD, even more because I see no big improvement(taking in accoount the money to spend)
I would like to upgrade the memory to 128, but the only offers till now are 100€ which is expensive...
Cheers
I use it every day -Work and fun-and don´t see any reason to change for a new one.
Jasjar. gr8 processor
My Universal is my second favorite device, right after my precious Athena.
I hope you'll continue cooking your magical ROMS
i use my HTC Universal
I have O2 XDA, and i used to use it a lot.
recently i am using it less at work dut to new camera resrictions on some areas however i still use it a lot, as my phone, e-mails and even as GPS.. i can't go anywhere without it -
I'm using it for 2 years since now. It's my first mobile device!
So please, Tomal, go on cooking!!!
Shuvo nabo barsho!
Translation: Happy Bengali new year!
cheers

Raphael or Dream?!

Hello,
I want to buy a new mda and i'm torn between a Raphael and a Dream...
I'm having trouble choosing between these two.
I mean i'm very curious about the Dream, running Android and all, but on the other hand, looking at the tech. specs, Raphael seems a bit more packed and i could still use IGO. Kind of got used to WM i guess; i currently have a Nike200...
Could anyone please tell me what's your opinion, which one would you choose...?
Thanks.
WM or Android
Welcome to forums
I´ll choose Rapahel definetly
I think Android OS is not mature yet, perhaps in a few years but not now.
Just my 2 cents.
read , search, respect and enjoy!
Good luck,
well..im having a dilemma now too..i tot of buying android phone..but i love to taste the window mobile phone..but i suggest u to take raphael like what orb said is true..but if u have little more money to spent on android phone i would take both.cos i want to get familiar with the OS...
Thank you for the replies. I guess I just needed a little push towards HTC Raphael...
Great choice!!
Then go to Wiki and to Raphael secton and enjoy!
If you are not in a rush, you could even go for the Touch Pro II. T-Mobile already has it available and it is roughly the same that AT&T, Sprint, etc are charging for the Touch Pro/Fuze.
But I agree with orb, Android is far from being done (although the Hero interface does look pretty neat)!
