Battery
Hi,
Last night I've put my battery in freezer.
This morning I took out and let it come to room temperature before charging again. It took 2.5 hours charging
Can't tell you if it worked yet but it looks good
Tell you later how long it last

i had this problem with my old battery (+3yrs old) so i got a new one just over a month ago ... the problem with WM6 is different .. the device takes about 1.5 day to drain the battery to 50% with normal usage (including wifi and bt) .. but the remaining 50% can be consumed in less than 2 hrs! .. same in charging too .. 1st 50% can be reached in less than 15 min and the remaining 50% can take around 2 hrs! .. i tend to think it's readings problem in WM6 but im not that expert.
Ok. I was responding to a thread about my phone and no reboot's. I notice that some else posted they charge there phone with it off. When i first got my phone I charged it with it off the very first time. Has anyone else done this and not had problems or done this and it still bad battery life? I have had mine unplugged since about 5:30 am and at 7:08 at 38 percent in the staus menu.

Unfortunately, as far as I know dual core is supposed to mean better battery management.
So there's that.

Yup, I know that most would say companies only advertise that as a ploy to sell more devices, but theoretically it really should be true.

I agree, especially after reading Chris Soyars' post about the battery driver. Not only does that mean our reading of the battery is directly affected, but it also leads us to believe that other drivers on the G2X could be poorly coded as well.
The battery life is ridiculous
Honestly I"m coming from a Sony Erisson w810i dumb phone due to lost of my Samsung Eternity 6 months ago. And I have to admit that it was worth waiting for this phone back when they announced at CTIA. I was so close to jumping onto the mt4g, but this unbelievable phone totally held me back. After waiting and suffering for 4 months from my dumb phone I finally got my hand not only on my first android phone, but also a dual core phone. Man this phone is blazing fast without any lag, going from apps to apps. Once I got it out of the box, I noticed the battery life was around 30%. After playing with it for about 30 minutes, it completely die out. I charged it while I was doing the factory reset. After the reset, I turned off my phone and left it charged 8 hrs while it's off with the battery charging screen. Waking up at 9:00am, it was 100% completely fully charged. Left the house to school and at 12:30p.m, it was down to 5%. It's been only 3 hours and 30 minutes! Before the battery started to drain I had wifi, syn emil, bluetooth and even brightness on low. Also, I had GSM/WCDMA on Auto, so that wasn't the cause either. My second attempt charging cycle to full battery, well see how it goes. If the battery doesn't last me over 6 hrs, I'm definitely going to return it for another new one. I'm having a bad impression on my first smartphone and I will do anything I can to get it the way it should be. It just unacceptable and ridiculous. Oh by the way, my phone is not yet rooted or done anything with it beside downloaded few apps and games. ^__^
i had this issue last night when I plugged in my phone it showed charging and 38%. woke up this morning 8 hours later and it still showed charging and 38%, I'm thinking what the f, this never happened with my nexus one. so I plugged the phone into another outlet and used a different charger and left it for an hour and it still showed the same thing. It wasn't until I restarted the phone that it showed 100%, but I find that odd. don't have the slightest clue why this happened.

I took my friend to a T-Mobile corporate store to show him the G2x I bought. I bought mine through TMO Loyalty so I had to wait for it to ship.
Anyhow, there was an LG rep there trying to showcase the G2x and G-Slate and I asked him how the battery life is for the G2x. He told me 6 days on standby and about 5-6 hours of continuous talk time.
I'll check to see if he's still there and take a PTO if I need to, to be there with him and call my office and let them put me on hold and see if the phone has enough juice to make it for 5 continuous hours.
Unfortunately tmo decided to add some apps that run by themselves....after I deleted them I havnt had any apps open without me opening them.....I get about 20 hours wth a lot of use. This is the best battery life I have gotten on any android phone

I don't see how to get 20 hours out of that battery! Are you on edge? any live wallpapers? Account syncing?
Now that Current Widget works on the Sensation It would be interesting to see what everyone else is getting on idle.
Im running standard rom Vodafone UK Branded and it doesnt seam to dip below 200mA on average, the lowest was 89ma for a few secs then shot back up. I have had it running and logging over night.
What is everyone else getting?

Same for me, I was getting <5ma on my HD2 when idle.
I wonder if SetCPU really works with the Sensation, having 250ma when idle would kill the battery way too fast!
I'm not sure if I have the maths/theory totally wrong, but pls correct me if so.... but if we have a reading of 250mah that means we are taking 250 ma per hour. Say our baterry is 1500mah (should provide 1500ma for one hour) does that mean we get 6 hours (1500/250) from a full charge??
Shoot me down if I have the theory wrong.... but 250mah does seem a lot. Presume that we need to trust the reading we are getting from the Battery Monitor Pro widget.

I think your math is correct, but something is surely wrong as I can get 3+ days under very light usage.
something wrong with mine tooo, ex user of hd2 usually around 7-9 mah when hd2 in idle, now use sensation around 200++
I gonna leave it 1rst if my battery drain in 6-7 hours then something wrong with my sensation but if it over 8 hours seem there is flaw in current widget
When the App does logging, your phone will need more power. Not accurate in my opinion. I also got something like 200 mA for idle. But it's not so much more when playing music etc. I assume the display consumes most of the power (Android's battery usage info agrees with me). Try measuring it in standy as follows: Disable your logging apps etc, remember your battery status in %. Leave it in Standby overnight, remember the time when you turn it off. In the morning, check your batetry status and note the time so that you can tell how many % you lost in what time. Then take that percentage from your battery capacity (1580 mah with stock battery). Divide this by the amount of hours and you will find your standby drain. Mine is something like 16 ma.
Example: Your battery when you go to sleep: 80%. You sleep for 8 hours. Your battery reading now: 70%. Thats 10%. 10% of 1580 mah is 158 mah. Divided by 8 is 19.75 ma. That's your standby consumption.
I recommend you do this when your battery is around 50%. My battery stays at 100% for a very long time, don't know why...
Just installed an update to the Battery Monitor Pro Widget that is supposed to address the issue of high current readings ont he Sensation. Will see how it goes.

Makes no difference.
No app to date is accurately measuring the stdby current (screen off) Clearly 200mA is not correct as your phone would only last 8 hours wiith no usage!
I'm getting 6 mA on idle, around average of 200 mA while in use.
I'm using battery monitor widget(free version).
I'm recording the history at 1 hour interval. sometimes idle mA doesn't record because it fall within that time frame.
but when it does, 6mA.

Now here's a strange thing.... was looking at my ma usage graph over night and noticed a couple of times it was on almost 0ma and not the normal 200-250ma. On looking at the history I noticed that this as the only time the temp fell below 25deg C. All other history was 200-250 and the temp was 25 and above.... very strange.... might put it in the fridge for a few minutes tonight!!

dude 19hrs and still 43% left is not 3to 4 days nobody is getting over a day and im not ranting just stating facts i have the phone too all im saying is your phone battery is not going to last under heavy use like cell phone back in the day now thats it all that stuff you posted dont mean nothing you went around and copy paste everbody **** to prove to me nothing there still not getting over a full day under heavy use also if i go cut off a bunch of stuff of course im going to get a little more but if you use your phone with out all the tricks like stop sync or anything else it wont last the phone came that way meaning it should last without cutting off anything but it dont you have to make sacrifices for it to last none of those pics showed 2days somebody said 2days but like you said pics is worth a 1000 words
So i have decided to say something, and to write a little "MY GUIDE" :
First of all, this thread is due my AWESOME BATTERY LIFE
I'm running Insert Coin 3.4.1 with Bricked 1.4r1 Kernel.
I have done following steps :
0) First of all, you have to drain your phone dry (dead, till it powers down itself).Turn of fast boot (this is very important)
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
4) I wiped battery stats then when finishing those 1-3 steps.
5) Used phone regular.
6) For next 2 charging cycles you have to again discharge your phone untill it powers down itself
7) Charge it for 8 hours (i did it overnight)
Click to collapse
After that 2 more full charging cycles you can charge your phone as much as you want and whenever you want. Charge it on every percent..
When you are charging your phone (after all 3 cycles), try to charge it when it drops under 30% and to charge it untill fully charged green light.
But i understand that sometimes you cant manage to charge it fully and when it is under 30%. Never mind. It is recommended but it is not required every time.
I'm trying to completely discharge and charge over 8 hours once per 1 or 2 weeks.
And after all this i have very good battery life.
With moderate use, my battery lasts over 24 hours (moderate use - lotof voice calls, lot of text messaging (SMS), checking on foursquare and little surfing over mobile network (HDSPA), alot of surfing over home WiFi.
In standby it cant be compared to anything i have heard here : I have 1% per 3 hours drain in stanby.. maybe even more hours, i cant properly determine but overnight when it is not charging i loose not more than 4-5 %).
My setup on phone is following :
1. Manual setup of brightness (im thinking of getting baadnewz auto brightness tweak)
2. All options in sound settings ( increase in pocket mode, flip over for speakerphone, quiet ring on pickup etc) are disabled.
3. Network is on GSM only. When i need HDSPA i change it manualy.
4. Auto sync is off.
5. Vibrate feedback and typing vibration is ON (i cant live without it ).
6. Dont have any battery saving applcation (juice defender, watchdog )
7. I dont have any mA monitor . Im fine without looking at wrong values monitored . I just have BattStatts (percentage shower).
Click to collapse
I hope you like this, and i hope this will help to some one here.
After all this time on this forum (over year and a half), a lot of people here helped me a lot with my problems with my previous device (HD2) and with my current device (Sensation), so i was in need to try to help other people with major problem (battery).
If you want, put this thread sticky, move it wherever you like, if it is helpfull.
Best regards folks.

With moderate use i have 98 percents now.. It is awsome
That's called bump charging. It may increase short term battery life, but depletes long term battery life. HTC recommended you do this ONCE every couple of months.
Plus our batteries are lithium ion, so doing full charge/discharge cycles will practically have no effect. You could do it just to calibrate it wight the phone, so as the phone "knows" what's 100% & 0%. But other than that, fully discharging these batteries could harm them. These batteries like partial discharge. So charging them when they get to around say, 30% is more convenient for them.
Just thought I'd let you know
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
I didnt said to repeat this every day or week..
I said you should have 2 full charge discharge only once after u done 1st couple of steps..
Full charge and discharge once per 2 weeks will, in no way, harm our phones..
And i said
When you are charging your phone (after all 3 cycles), try to charge it when it drops under 30% and to charge it untill fully charged green light.

I have done steps from above, and i have great battery life.. short and long..

This method CANT harm your battery or device.. It can only help your battery life.. Try it.. See it yourself
Thank you for your guide.

Woah, take it easy my Serbian friend. All that I'm doing, is stating the facts & trying to help you understand that what you hear about charge/discharge cycles are just carryovers from previous batteries where it was good to be do several full drain/recharge cycles.
Here's a perfectly clear explanation of the differences coming from experts: http://androidforums.com/incredible-tips-tricks/69534-battery-charging-myths.html
And a more detailed one:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
What you experienced is bump charging, like I said, it may increase short term battery life, but WILL decrease its long term usability. So come on, this is a community, we learn from one another
@mzmo :
Mate.. You got me wrong. I appreciate your post in this thread . I find it useful. Ofcourse we learn from each other.
The facts ive put in OP thread are facts from my phone directly . First steps of guide was in mail HTC has responded to me.
So, all in all, thanks for your posts ,and for your future posts.. I find them all like big contribute to XDA community.. After all, i made this thread due to that

Which bricked kernel version is better for insertcoin 3.4.3, v1.4 or v1.5
Thx
Thanks for the info.. very helpful...... i will try it out frm today. i have a huge battery drain
using ARHD 4.1.7 with faux latest kernel
Ive had my htc one x for maybe 5-6 months which is almost the longest ive ever been on one phone and i love(d) it, but its always been doing something very strange and aggravating that seems to be getting worse. Battery drain has always been a problem for me with this phone but ehh i can deal with it, but once my phone gets down to about 14% which is does often because of the draining it starts acting real funny with its power and sometimes goes from 14 down to 5 in an instant literally out of no where and as soon as i plug up itll go right back to 13, or itll shut down entirely at 14% but i can just cut it back on, or itll shut down in the middle of me doing something and i have to charge it for about 5-10 minutes before itll even come back on. The latter happened last night btw. No matter what combination of roms/kernels i try this always seems to be a problem. I really cant deal with this anymore and its to the point where i wanna throw my phone into a wall and just buy another one, which im seriously thinking about doing at this point. If such thing has happened to anyone before or you have insight on this can you please help before i just give up hope completely.
What you have described is normal for our device. Remember that the battery percentage is just an estimate of your actual charge. In addition, you find your phone shutting off around the lower percentages as a result of the device attempting to prevent damage to the battery. That is what the HOXl was designed to do.

Last night when it did it, as it has before, i was still on 21%.... thats not normal. And this isnt my first android nor first htc, never happened before. Even on my aunts old one s it didnt happen
Do you allow full charges after these "forced shutdowns" occur? This should cause your battery to recalibrate.

The battery behavior on this phone has been interesting. I have the battery last over two weeks on airplane mode and I've had the battery last just a couple of hours with just a stock setup. There are so many factors that play into this. I work in an area with very little to no signal reception and my battery life goes crazy and the phone can get really hot while I'm there so I've seen the best and worst.
What I do to counteract this bad behavior:
1. Charge prior to 40% (I've had the phone go from 40% to zero instantly before)
2. Consider your signal reception and either try out different radios or use airplane mode to reduce erratic battery drain
3. Install a 3rd party app like batterycalibration (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en) and use that when things get hairy (I calibrate every two weeks or so and that does the trick for me.
My phone has been like this since I pulled it out of the box. With a little management, it is just fine. You have seen it before but I'll say it again, you have to get through a few charge cycles when flashing a new Rom to get back to normal.
Hope this helps. It works for me and I work in a cell phone reception hell.

Ive had my htc one x for maybe 5-6 months which is almost the longest ive ever been on one phone and i love(d) it, but its always been doing something very strange and aggravating that seems to be getting worse. When a new ROM or kernel is flashed you need to let battery settle for at least 48hrs before you get super worried about battery. If possible during that time let device fully discharge then charge up to 100. Please use a battery monitoring app and then see what's causing the issues. With proper config hoxl will get good battery life. There is always the chance its hardware issue but doubtful as battery prolly would of completely failed by now. Also check your screen brightness settings. Hope this helps

Ive done all three methods youve mentioned before and still same thing. Also im on 3/4 bars with lte 90% of the time so no reception issues here. And with my current setup ive been running it for about 2 weeks.

Ive always let the rom settle in and i constantly maintain the brightness on around mid level (mirror screen protector so i cant go too low) but its not just one rom or a few, its with every rom i flash ad that consists of most roms available for this device
The battery behaviour you described is completely normal if you understand how a battery of this type works, and if you understand how the software (especially the display of battery percentage) works in conjunction with it.

So youre telling me having the phone get to 22% and instantly drop to zero and power down is normal? Makes no sense at all. Also i cant get it to charge too 100% for anything. So if theres no fix to this, anybody want a one x with a troublesome battery?
What I'm saying is the battery percentage displayed by the software is never exact, it's only an estimate based on the voltage level of your battery. Your battery sounds like its long term life (capacity) has been decreased over time and possibly bad treatment (allowing the device to discharge too much too many times).

Depends on what you define as "normal". Such behavior is certainly not unheard of (although you particular collection of symptoms may point to a more serious issue, which I'll get to later). Couple things you have to remember: the battery meter is far from accurate. Being off by 10% or more is not unusual (completely normal). So jumping from 5 to 13% as you mentioned is not out of the question. The battery voltage is not actually jumping around, just the % battery number that the phone is assigning to various voltage readings. Reading errors happen, and if a jump is noticed, its just the meter correcting itself.
Which brings us to the other point that should be kept in mind: the battery % is not a "real" measurement. Its just a number assigned to various voltages to give the average person a sense of how much battery is left. Its a completely fabricated and artificial measure that just gives some relative sense of when a user should charge their battery. Phone makers just decided to use a system that average people would understand, like the fuel gauge on a car. Zero doesn't really mean zero (or anywhere close), but reporting in voltages would make no sense for most folks. Also, as we all well know, just because (for example) it took you 12 hours to drain the phone to 50%, does not necessarily mean the phone will last another 12 hours to drain the remaining 50%. It all depends on what you are doing with the phone during that time. Which leaves the question: What does the % battery really mean? Really, not a heck of a lot.
On the other hand, the battery failing to charge to 100% is troublesome, as is the apparent frequency of the meter drops and the fact that the issue remains after various ROM flashes. Leads me to believe there may be some hardware issue going on.
The short answer: IMO while some of the individual symptoms are not unusual, the seeming frequency (you haven't exactly quantified this, but it seems relative frequent just based on your descriptions) may suggest a larger issue, but its not certain.
Thanks it explained a lot but it happened again today, went to the store with ~36% on the meter and walked out, haven't touched it at all, phone was completely dead. Tried to charge and it went to 6% and stopped charging, all signs showed it was charging but it was stuck on 6. Then it started climbing again and reached about 16% and actually started losing charge while on the charger. Switched over to my portable battery charger i just got and it held the charge at about 5% for ~30 minutes, which is what it was when i plugged it in and started to charge, then it stopped againand during the whole process the phone was getting very hot. Yea im getting a new phone :/
