This might be a completely obvious question, but I cannot seem to find a thread on it. But I am just curious if there is any risk of losing my phone's SIM unlock status if I flash another ROM and/or Radio. I read something on the Radio page about 1.27.14.09 and locking to AT&T, but I didn't completely understand it.
Can anyone vouch for the fact that reflashing ROMs and Radios will not lose your SIM unlock status?
No you will not loose your SIM unlock.. If you use a AT-T rom with a non AT-T radio you will not get sound from your kaiser. Same issue if you use a AT-T radio with a non AT-T rom all you get is no sound. If you are planning to use a different rom than an AT-T then you must change your radio to match that rom. there is a whole thread on what radios will work with what roms and I think it is stickied
I read the thread "Kaiser Radios" and I was a bit confused, but thanks for the response. Out of curosity, where does the phone store the locked/unlocked status?
TyTN II Orange sim unlocking
Guys, sorry for the hassle but I am struggling. Want to sim-unlock my TyTN II. Tried to use IMEI CHECK but it failed to work. Any help would be very much appreciated. Keep on getting the error message that the software was designed for Kaiser devices only.

I am getting an Orange branded Kaiser next week and will want to revert it to the official HTC Rom, I have never done anything like this so am a bit green. I have downloaded the file RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar
Can any one tell me if this is the official English version of the HTC rom and also is all I have to is follow the idiots guide in the other thread on this forum.
I'd recommend you ask orange for the sim unlock code before attempting this.
Unless you're happy to flash your phone and be unable to use *any* (including oranges) sim in it.

is it the same for T-Mobile? Had a HTC TYTN and now a T-Mobile Vario III and prefer to have the HTC rom because I cannot get the Windos live to auto sync / as messages arrive post a SR ever

Your fine to upgrade as long as you don't touch the radio portion of the Rom.
HardSPL your phone, then decompile the HTC rom and create a new rom using only the OS portion. then install using Pofs custome RUU installer.
Cheers
I held back on changing my Orange UK ROM for the same sim-lock reasons. However I simply used HardSPL first & then flashed my phone with the Sleuth ROM as it doesn't touch the radio & therefore bypasses the sim-lock issue.
Am now very happy and de-oranged.

Apologies in advances for the noobness of this question. I have an Orange Tytn II and would like to use it on O2. I've been using the phone for calls, so it's unlocked. I've got Internet settings for the O2 Stellar from O2 and entered them but it still won't connect making it rather useless to me.
From reading it seems to by because the radio is locked to Orange? CID locked? is that right?
I've successfully run the HardSPL, which I understand will now enable me to install other ROMs. What I'm not clear on is if I do this if I will permanently SIMlock the Orange phone or if the HardSPL gets round this problem and I'll be safe to put on another ROM and so letting me get online and 'deOrangig the phone'.
I've read that I can put on a ROM as long as it doens't touch the radio. But does this releveant only if you want to stay on Orange? Will it let you use another network SIM? And which ROM would that be anyway.
Bit confused as you can see. Any help appreciated.
Sorry for the dumbness of the question, but do I have to sim-unlock my Kaiser (Orange) before flashing with a new radio/rom (Dutty's Hybrid 29/4). I've heard of unlockers just patching your current radio, so does flashing with a new radio automatically unlock the phone anyway?
One more thing - does this Dutty's rom (I'm going for the non-cube 1.65.14.06) also flash the radio, or is it just the rom? It says +(radio) on the posts, but I just want to be sure...
Cheers
Chris
Sim unlock, no. There is something called CID unlock which you must do in order to flash. You CID unlock by flashing HardSPL. Look it up. Sim unlock will let you use your device on any carrier.
The sim unlock works by patching a special radio (which is actually non functional as a radio, but it helps reveal the sim unlock code) and running a special program on the device and a computer. When you are done you have to flash back your original radio.
Flashing a new radio does not automatically unlock your phone.
Some of Dutty's roms come with a radio, some do not. If they say rom+radio they do. If they say rom only well, its rom only. You have to read each cooks individual FAQ/
thread to know what you are flashing.
i read somewhere that sometimes when you flash with simlock it is possible that it stops accepting any simcards.
so when i first flashed i also simunlocked.
but maybe im wrong and you dont have to do this.
i am sim, supercid, and security unlocked and haven't had any problems with my phone read the wiki it will help you understand everything
Yes you have to sim unlock your orange branded tytnII before flashing, search around xda there are a few free ways of doing this...
Hi there,
I am pretty new to the forum and I havent had much experience with locked / unlocked devices so my question might be a bit naive.
I wanted to buy the AT&T Fuze from ebay and the offer says its unlocked.
Does that mean I can use it in Pakistan and Middle East. And secondly, can I change its ROM to the standard middle east rom version.
I ll be thankful if someone could guide me regarding the problem.
Thanks
yes you can
unlocking your phone will allow you to use your phone with another service provider (instead of just At&t).
You can change your ROM regardless of whether your phone is unlocked or not.
I'll get specific for you.
1. Sim unlocked
(the most common unlocked terminology) means you can put any sim in the device and use that carriers network.
As far as ROM flashing goes (don't get the two confused)
2. Security unlocked and Hard SPL.
Hard SPL is for flashing a ROM, However since you live outside the U.S. you might want to flash a Radio, This is were Security Unlocking comes into play.
If you want my recommendation, Use "Olipro's" unlocker in the Raphael Rom Development section. It is worth the money and very easy to use.

I already did, read post 4
Everything you ever wanted to know is in the WIKI.

Hey Everyone-
This post has probably already been answered but i have been searching the forums (and google) and getting mixed results.
I looking to flash the ROM on my HTC Touch Pro (Fuze). However, I've read that my phone must be unlocked to flash a new radio, but not a new ROM. However I've also read that with a new ROM comes a new Radio. So which is it? Do i need to unlock my phone to flash a new ROM because if not i will have a phone w/o a Radio?
Thanks alot, these forums are awesome.
From my understanding, you only need to unlock the phone if you want to use another device's radio. For example, you have a Touch Pro, if you wanted to put a Touch HD radio on it then the phone needs to be unlocked. However, if you want to put another Touch Pro radio on your touch pro you shouldn't need to unlock the phone.
To answer your second question about Roms with or without radios.... They come both ways but I have mostly seen Roms without included radios. Just read the desired Rom info page to find out if it includes a radio or not.
Unlock (HardSPL) is always necessary. No matter if u flash a radio, a rom or a radio/rom.
The only moment when u do not need to unlock is if u flash an official update , radio or rom, that is made from ur provider for ur phone. Or if its unbranded , the update is downloaded from htc itself with ur serial number entered befor.
BTW: Unlock (HardSPL) means that the loader of ur phone accepts NOT signed Roms or radio files for flashing.
Thank you both for the quick replies. So that i have this clear-
I can download and run hardspl according to the instructions etc, etc. Then if i choose to flash a rom without a radio i can. Then (or before) I can flash a Fuze Radio to my phone all without sim unlocking my phone?
Do i have that right?
Thank a million

Not shure if I got u correct in the first post:
By unlock do u mean SIM unlock ? Means use sims from any provider.
By unlock u mean entering the pin number to use ur phone ?
By unlock u mean (what I thought first) enabling the phone to accept any kind of rom ?
Normally a new radio is not always needed, I flash most of the times leaving my radio as it is, if its good in reception and power consumption
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.

These are what I understand as the levels of Unlocking... so you're right. I was talking about a security unlock (my apologies). The carrier shouldn't have anything to do with the process. And i don't need special software to security unlock the phone right? (that's where i was getting confused)
As for that last part--
So assuming i like the reception and battery usage i get right now I can flash any ROM i want w/o worrying about losing the radio? And if i do get a ROM with a radio is the radio installed automatically or are there two steps? Thus enabling me to install the ROM without the radio that came with it?
Many Thanks

Ok, first u have to HardSPL (What does: Ur Phone accepts any radio and/or rom)
From here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150
NOTE 3: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs or radio packages. also, this has overwrite protection, if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, we will soon post a stock SPL downgrade package.

If u have a touch pro and want to use Diamond or Blackstone radios then u have to do look here, first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426609
Then:
Flash ROM -> ur radio stays the same
Flash Radio -> ur rom stays the same
Flash all in one -> Both are changing, radio and rom.
Look in the roms thread, they tell u if it comes with or without radio. I think most of the times without. The original Raphael rom from HTC is WITH radio btw
Thank you very, very, very much!!!
Im gonna give this a try now.
Once again, many thanks.

Hi to all!
I have a Sprint Touch Pro2. I already went through the whole process of doing the Olipro Security Unlocking and the RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocking for US SIMs.
Everything worked very well and now I can use my phone with an ATT Sim Card.
My question is, can I update to a new/different CDMA ROM without losing the ability to use my ATT Sim Card? I would like to eliminate all the Sprint applications and be able to get new ones.
I will really appreciate your help!!!
just run the radio again once ur unlocked it stays unlocked so just run the radio again and u should be fine works for me everytime

You should be able to use the ATT Sim card, after you flash a new rom...as long as the RUU that you use does NOT flash a new radio.
I am guessing that because you want to eliminate the Sprint Software, that you are NOT planning to flash a stock rom.
If that is the case, and you plan to flash a custom rom from here or PPCGEEKS, then you should be fine. Other wise, if you find that you did lose the ability, then just re-flash the new radio after you flash the rom.
