i have a a xv6700 with the new rom (WM6) upgrade that one of the users created. i noticed that the new rom doesn't have a character counter for the text messaging program. i have verizon wireless and they only allow 160 characters per message so it is hard to figure out if my message will be sent as two. is there a registry edit to make the counter appear again? it would normally show " x/160 " below the lowest line of text. thanks

I am having problems with text messages on my XDA IIs.
It happens intermittantly. Sometimes SMS works fine, but most of the time it does not.
It is sending messages that are shorter then 160characters using multiple texts.
Most of the time, when you begin writing the text, it says at the bottom 0/160. But once you hit around 70, it says something like 71/70 (2 Messages), and then so on. A Full 160 character text uses, like 3 or 4 messages.
When I send these, my girlfriend reports never receiving the other parts to the text, and only the first 70 characters, and a friend of mine says he receives them all seperately.
This is very annoying. Occasionally, it comes up 0/70 at the bottom. I'm close to smashing the phone up because of this - good job I have insurance eh?
Any ideas....?
By the way, I'm new around here. Nice site by the way!
Hmm... could a Mod move this to the Blue Angel forum, I appear to have posted by mistake in the General Forum...
Sorry guys...
What language is your blue angel set up in ?
Inbox --> Accounts --> Accounts --> SMS --> "Send SMS messegages using Unicode when necessary"
On or Off?
Unicode messages gives about 70 characters..
It enables you to send funny looking characters, but fewer of them..
Yeah, that's where I was going with the language thing.
I assumed that there must be some charaters being used that could only be encoded using two bytes
You are ok woth a lot of international characters but ©, ® and æ for instance will put you in unicode territory.
Unicode...
I can type 160x "æ" pr SMS...
This is native language for me though..
(NO! I don't go around saying "ææææææ" all day..)
My suggestion:
Disable the unicode thingy and try typing æ, ø, å, ©, ® and stuff..
Does the 2s have the intellipad text entry system like on the 2i?
I've noticed this when trying to use it on the XDA2 and it had the same issue, only once I'd removed Intellipad from the 2003SE install did the problem go away.
As far as I know it's a bug that MS / O2 are aware of, in the meantime you'll just have to a) not use apostrophe punctuation or b) use the " ' " on the keyboard / use Intellipad WITH the "1" button to put in the punctuation.
Cheers
Ant
sorted ive turned off the unicode and now when the apostrophe puts its self in there it doesnt go to 7 messages like it has been doing wrote a 145 character text the other day and it was showing as 9 messages because of all the punctuation took it out and back to 1 ,no need to do that now punctuation works fine
thanks Bonzo i carnt tell u how much this has been buggin me lol
Hi,
I was reading that in order to prevent it from happening you have to set tmail.exe as an exception in the close options.
Being the newbie I am, my question would be, how do i do that?
Is the cause of the problem Pocket plus? Should i just remove it?
Pls advise.
Thanks.
Qtek devices do not send SMS twice but SMS requiring unicode cannot contain 160 chars each.
Check the counter at the bottom of your messaging application before sending in order to see how many SMS will be sent.
Avoid unicode chars and you will always get 160 chars per SMS.
Sascha
if you can
1 set it so pressing the X dont close the application but minimize it like mw does default but plus changes
2 you can add outlook to the list of exceptions and close other applications like plus want to
both are don in the plus settings
or you can just wait untill the msg sendt icon is displayed on the title menu before you close outlook
Apologies if someone has posted this before - couldn't find anything.
I'd like my Tornado/SP5 Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone to only display the words "text messages" when there is an unread message - with outlook mail, if there is an unread message it shows, but if they have all been read it disappears from the today screen.
Don't know anything about changing the registry but think I read somewhere that this will be the solution.
Has anyone got the patience to describe what I need to do?
Cheers
try this:
http://filexoom.com/files/2006/11/7/42820/oldSAP SMSPlugIn Label.cab
you cant change the registry entry manually because it will revert back to the original "Text Messages (0)" value
execute the file i sent and then use space " " as your label then save and hide the application.
It's not perfect yet but i will update it soon.
Thanks for this...worked great to being with but needs re-setting up regularly...look forward to the update you talk about...cheers
this is what i got:
http://oldsap.blogspot.com/2006/12/smsintercept-freeware-smartphone.html
you can add a shortcut link to your startup folder so that it will automatically launch the applications when you reboot.
In Windows Mobile 6.1 the sms was now threaded.
Which is good but i have some question
how to display the received time in the sms.cos for now it only show date.
thx
I have the same question.... Maybe show something like 2/13/08 5:32 PM next to each message in the thread would be excellent
I would also like to know how to delete an specific message from a thread. I tried click/hold, but only displays select all. There's no delete option for just one message.. only the complete thread.
Same thing here.. Can't delete specific sms.. the only thing that i can do is to delete the entire thread of sms.. =(

Click to collapse
While viewing the thread, use your D-pad (arrows) to select the desired message to delete, it will turn blue, then you can delete/forward/etc.. to that SMS, this is also the ONLY way you can forward a message.
what about searching all your texts? you used to be able to type in anything and search for any text with that word in it. it was so helpful and i dont think u can do it anymore any one know?
thanks for the information, kasush!
i have another question. when in inbox, the choices at the bottom are "delete" and "menu". would it be possible to replace "delete" with "new"?
Is there any way of removing the "threaded SMS" altogether
(i.e. go back to the traditional viewing options??
i did this on the universal but im sure it will work on all devices
Remove Threaded SMS & Return To Traditional SMS
Open a registry editor and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\
add a folder "OEM" (without the quote marks)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\
add a dword value "SMSInboxThreadingDisabled" (without the quote marks)
and set it to 1
ta-da! you now have traditional SMS
using Mode sms for disabling threaded msg is much easy go here

SMS Folders
I'm unable to create SMS folders in WM 6.1. Option is disabled. It was very easy with Windows Mobile 6
Can´t ENABLE threaded view
I just got an Acer DX900 with WM6.1 pro and I noticed the sms inbox is shown in the old non-threaded view.
I´d like to use the threaded view I had before in my previous HTC phone.
I´ve checked and the registry key (SMSInboxThreadingDisabled) is not present so I don´t understand why the messages are not shown in threaded view.
Any ideas???
how to change number of SMS (is thread view) displaying on one site (default 12) to other number?
SMS for configuring MMS
Hi all,
my provider (t-mobile germany) have a service to automaticly configure internet and mms on windows handys.
he sends a sms, which I have to "install". This worked on my old windows versions. but in the new one, with threaded sms, the question to install the configuration, don't apear.
Do anyone know, how to install this configuration sms?
greetings from germany.
Harry
The easiest way to change your sms from threaded to the original (classic) individual messages is to go your system settings (start menu, settings, system tab). There should be an icon for text messaging, in there you can switch between classic and threaded.

Nice Job dude!!
Hi,
I would like to send long text as multimedia message. How can I do? In android I add object to message, but I dont know How It is there.
I have HTC 7 Trophy with WinPhone 7
Two options:
1: Attach a photo or something.
2: Enable the Group Messaging option, and add an additional recipient (could even be yourself, I think).
There may be others, but those are the ways that I know of to force MMS.
