What are you trying to backup? Your ROM? You can backup the ROM using Mestrini's Wizard Service Tool (WST for short).

[Q]Flashing related..basics

I was quite disappointed by not getting a reply to my questions in my phone section so i decided to post it here, hope you guys'll help me out.
Before i perform flashing a rom, i have a couple of questions to ask you.
1. I'm not familiar with nandroid backup and all that. So if someone can give me some explaination of how it works and what i need to do to have a backup of my rom so i can flash back to orignal one whenever i want?
2. Also i heard from people that after flashing some ROMs, you can't get back to stock rom (recovery), if so then how you know that certain rom isn't flashable
3. Is there a difference between recovering (flashing stock rom) and downgrading? if so then what?
4. How can one brick cellphone and how to recover back, is it easy to brick?
Also some basics if i need to know so that i don't brick my cellphone and can easily get back to my official rom whenever i want. Please do tell me anything which i should know, Thanks !

[Q] Need stock nandroid for i9023?!?!

Hey guys. First off, I want to appologize if this is not the right section for my question. This is my first time here at your forums.
Anyways.....
My real question is...Does anyone have a nandroid that i can use for my i9023?!
I bought it two days ago. Got ahead of myself. Anyways long story short I can restore through clockworkmod recovery. But I can not flash any roms. kernels, anything. That is completely locked out. I need this phone for tomorrow. Hoping someone can save me a few hours of sleep. I need pretty much any version of a nandroid backup for nexus s i9023.
My phone does not have root anymore, but as i can not do anything else but clockworkmodrecovery (specificially the restore function.....) I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could send me any type of nandroid backup. I will try all of them. PLEASE!?
Also. I have been at this for approx 5 hours now. tried everything there is. but no installing a zip file. PERIOD. only thing i have gotten to work is the restore fucntion

TWRP Files

I have what might be a dumb question, but i'm new to flashing roms. I'm rooted, unlocked, have TWRP installed and have created a restore file. So i'm ready to try flashing some roms.
My question is, since the TWRP restore files are huge, is it ok to move them over to my PC for potential later use? Is there some brick case where i wouldn't be able to put them back on the phone's memory over usb?
Thanks!

Yes, you can do that without issue. I believe its actually reccomended just in case your files get corrupted or something haha.
I always keep one back up and a copy of what ever Rom I'm running on my sdcard just in the event that I couldn't access via usb in the event of a problem.
Just my two cents

[Q] How safe is flashing alternate firmwares?

This is probably a silly question, but I hope some more experienced Android experimenters can help ease my mind. I'm an Android noob, but I do know enough to follow instructions and I've successfully installed aorth's CWM Recovery and made a backup. (If I understand correctly, this is called a Nandroid backup and represents a complete backup of the system. Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Now my Tab boots into CWM Recovery when I hold the volume-up key. It sees my backup when I select the "restore" option. All that looks as I would expect it to.
My question is: How safe is it to play around with flashing other firmwares, for example CyanogenMod 10? Will I always be able to get back to where I am now simply by booting into recovery and restoring? Or is it still possible for something to go so horribly wrong that that won't work? On a scale of 1 - 100, how high are the chances of being able to recover no matter what?
(BTW, I do have a copy of the backup on my PC, so if it got wiped from the Tab I would still be able to get it onto the external sd card.)
I am not a developer by any means. But I love to tinker. My rules are. Read everything. I have never been unable to restore a backup if somthing seems to have gone wrong. These guys are not out to mess up your device. Once you understand the terminology and flash a few it will bring new enjoyment to device. Go for it.
