Another indicator of if it gets a forum here is "will it ever see thelight of day?" I-Mate's almost as dead as a door nail.
I'm bringing this thread back to push for an I-mate 9502 forums on here. This is honestly one of the main factors on wether or not I will buy this device (if/when it's released). I love this forum and it has helped me so much with my Vox and my Feeler, I would love to have the same support if I were to buy a 9502.
actually, that's a bit unlikely, as it's not HTC-made. The forum has specialized in HTC only so far, save for a few **ahem** Atom**ahem**
I would also love it if XDA-Dev got a 9502 forum.
The phone looks perfect! I actually sold my bnib Voda V1615 / tytn II upgrade to get some cash for it!
However, being Windows Mobile it will doubtlessly be utterly useless without the XDA-Dev geniuses to iron out all the creases.
I don't see why it can't go in here. It's replaced HTC as the XDAs in the southern hemisphere (i-mate's smartphone range).
I don't see why people are so keen to keep the forum exclusively for High Tech Crap anyway. Until the Wizards they've always been terrible (of course I still loved tweaking with them with the help of XDA-Dev).
Actually, not all Southern hemisphere. In Asia, even Southern and Southeastern, HTC still dominates the WM market. Sorry to burst your bubble mate. But the final decision really would be up to the mods, wouldn't it?

Nope, it isn't dead - and, fortunately, they don't return to HTC, as opposed to what the rumors said before MWC.

I'll mention this question too in the Mod forum, albeit, I'm afraid, the answer will be no.
it doesnt matter if there' a imate 9502 forum or not. just use the cab files from this site and put it in Ultimate! i just put PIE 6.1 on Imate 6150!

Some of them will work, but I think a lot of the things that need fiddling with in the registry and I-mate's own bits of software will need device-specific tweaks.
Either way, I can have a tinker, but lack the technical know-how to do anything major. I guess if the device become popular enough we might end up with a forum for it.

Ultimate 9502 Thread
Surely we shouldn't discount the Ultimate 9502 just because it's not made by HTC.
The 'Welcome' message admits that the name XDA-Developers is pretty arbitrary, it just so happened that an O2 XDA of some model was the first that they happened to have, and that would make it more O2 than HTC.
I would say that what is much more important is that the 9502 is a WindowsMobile Pocket PC, and it will have the same kind of issues as the other Windows Mobile Pocket PCs discussed here, including other I-Mate devices, and especially the Kaiser which has (from what I understand) the same chipset.
So can we have a forum for the 9502 (and I guess the other Ultimates as well)?

As far as when the 9502 will be available from Telstra, they were able to take my order as of last Thursday. I'd say they would only do that if the issues had been sorted.

There has actually been an HTC build of WM5 for every device since the Himalaya, a developer has to licence it to customise though, so unless someone is going to take it seriously and launch it through qtek, i-mate, Orange, O2, T-Mobile, and so on, you will never see it.
HTC did their part and gave them a choice, nobody was interested though.
The Himalaya and Blue Angel versions were the core builds for beta purposes within various companies working on development and MS themselves, as those were the two most popular devices at the time.
There's no technological reason why WM5 can't exist on the Magician, just commercial.

Yes, you are right. Infact, it is priced higher that the comparitively newer JasJam($999). JasJar is priced at $1049 :\ Indeed odd.

Well, IMHO, all vendors should give WM6 upgrade to their WM5 devices since MS is not charging anything from them to do the upgradation.
Just saw somewhere on the web that the HP has announced to give their hx2xxx owners free WM6 upgrade. Now, thats too cool
I was thinking about the selling of my Qtek 9000, because Im looking for someting new (my favourite is Imate Ultimate 7150), but the official WM6 upgrade is good reason why still stay with Universal

afaik, HTC dont support the Universal with WM6, meaning that carriers can't either.

Well, may be imate wants to sell the ones still left in the stock. Also, since MS didnt take any money for the upgrade to WM6, may be one of the imate rom makers made a ROM for JasJar to attract the people to buy it

But, imate has not yet announced to offer WM6 upgrade, unlike htc/dopod :\
edit: also, since imate has divorced htc from quite a long time, jasjam won't be getting any upgrade. afaik, jasjam is the only device which could have got the upgraded to wm6 because it was manf by htc. After jasjam, they came with the non-htc products

I have been using this since April 2, and my Kaiser has been in my drawer ever since (sorry HTC)
Which one, the 8502 or 9502. I have an 8502 and I've gotta tell you, it is by FAR the best PDA phone I have ever used. Not only is it VERY small in size which is GREAT, but the battery life is good too. If it had a VGA screen, and maybe a front facing camera, it would be the best phone ever. My buddies 9502 is also a very solid phone. Abit bulky but not too bad. Thinner than the tytn II but longer.
again, this forum is called XDA-devs. I find it somewhat hypocritical that it encompasses only HTC made devices. But a rule of thumb is that if its not available via XDA, it's not getting a forum.

I'm in too! I owning one 8502 and generally satisfied. Of course, it could be better with new ROM supporting SDHC!

It will never support SDHC. It is a hardware issue, in that the Wifi card uses some parts of the SD card reader.

I have had my 8502 for about 11 weeks and it is by far the best unit I have ever owned.
This is at least my 8th PDA and I migrated from a JasJam and in every aspect the 8502 is far superior even with WM 6.0.
I use it quite heavily with lots of software installed and certainly have not had the issues that some of you are talking about.
All I am waiting for is WM 6.1 and some Rom cookers and the 8502 will be even better.
i'm suprise that my Imate 9502 is very stable and everything just works!
i have a tytn 1 upgraded to WM6.1, and usb tethering keep disconnecting!
8502 user here........ must agree this is the best windows mobile i have used.....just check out my signature, been through a lot of pdas in the last couple of years....

I think we should open a forum only when XDA starts to carry it. We are XDA-developers, not HTC-developers.
I don't get why XDA-Devs is kept exclusively HTC. I mean, back in the day, the name made sense because XDA's were the primary (or only?) PPC phones commercially available.
I guess HTC is still the most popular, and nobody wants XDA-Devs to become saturated with a section for every new device, but surely if other devices get popular it'd make sense to allow people a place to cook roms for them? I'm sure some of the gurus on here must have non-HTC devices, and its a shame that they have nowhere to develop them.

The ROMs here are actually quite good but even if the ROM from HTC (the new one) does not compare with the ones made by XDA gurus they did some nice stuff...for example clearing the storage automatically after flash (no hard reset??) and the radio looks to be quite good it has all the countries in EUR now and the auto network configuration actually works...and there is no bluetooth activated right after flash...
Maybe some of these good things can be implemented in the new custom ROMs also...
More than blaming HTC for its ****-ROMs , we should contact the people who is working on port the Diamond drivers.

I wished the same thing until I realized that here in this forum we only represent negligible fraction of what could make an impact at all for their revenues.
hi guys,
i used the kaiser since few month with the org. german vodafone rom 1.58.... and all thinks work fine except voip with the rear speaker problem, and no drivers .. we all know.
Yesterday I use the new official german rom and this works so bad for me ... same speed, problems with the touchscreen, BT headset works but kaiser works slow with BT on.
Before I throw the Kaiser off the window :-/ I wait for a community rom with diamond drivers and give the people here a detonation for that. No more money to HTC from me.

Still didn't get a driver, which they promised us and a crappy performance when it comes to graphics... So don't frustrate the people over here with your shortcomings, but irritate the HTC staff .

Remember when they "HTC" announced the Kaiser II , the promo how cool it looked. We all couldn't wait, built in GPS smaller design "not as thick" I fell for the hype. Now what are they pushing the "DIAMOND" wow lets all sell our Tilt's and Kaisers II on eBay and go out and buy a Diamond. but wait what is the Diamond missing what are it's short falls. Do we all trust HTC since they have been so honest with us up to now, it seems that everyone is tring to make a Iphone look alike. If you want an Iphone buy one. it's cheeper then a Kaiser II and you can get 2 for the price of a Diamond. I like my Tilt and I am going to keep it. but I don't like HTC and I would be willing to contribute to any legle suite or team that can go after HTC and hold them accountable. They may reside in a foreign country but I live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and we know how to screw someone in court. Land of the Free and home of the Class action suite! I am extremely happy to belong to this XDA community, I feel like this is a big extended family and we have family members all over the world. We have all been waiting long enough and apparently in vein, for HTC to release video drivers. I believe they never had any intention of correcting these problems. Oh and one more thing I never used a Windows machine at home until I got my first HTC device Samsung SX66, then 8525 now the Tilt. I am a die hard Mac user have always been. but in the world of PDA's Windows is King! I can't get what I need out of an Iphone and looks like I am not going to get what I expect from HTC. I'm sure the folks at HTC are reading all this on a daily basis, and take pity on your plight, and will be releasing a driver asap to make us all happy.
The kaiser does what it's supposed to - it's a business centric device and as for the multimedia part, it might not be a monster, but it does do the job relatively well.
Face it, HTC doesn't care about a 7 month old device, neither do they care about you. Try and think about it from their point of view - Releasing a brand new device boasting of 3D capabilities is MUCH better for sales than worrying about implementing it on an already released crippled one.
With that said, I hope this will be the last of such threads and the ROM development forum is no place for this sort of rant anyway.
So... after thinking it for a long time I have gone back to the original WM 6.0 ROM.
- Official WM 6.1 update by HTC: No text in landscape mode, programs crashing, skype does not work
- Cooked ROMs based on this: same problems with landscape
- Cooked ROMs with 1.65 radio: do not work well with my router, slow GPS fix
- Other cooked ROMs: display problems, have many programs I have no use for or I have to install others that came as standard (this leads to little storage free at the end). Skype does not work on most cases.
- Original ROM: Big free storage, GPS works fast, WiFi works, Skype works, all programs work, no crashes.
So, by updating what the hell do I gain?
My other choice would be WM 6.1 3.02 ROM, I've been using it for weeks, but hell, in the original ROM skype works.

It helps if we don't buy into their next product. Multi-million dollar companies are made buy consumers. If you take away the consumer then you don't have a multi-million dollar company.
why dont we all put our kaisers in a big bag and then take this bag in a helicopter and release over HTC Corp. (with some TNT, or some Hydrogen in Fusion) and Bang !
