Hard SPL with linux - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hi
First time post, please be gentle.
I am trying to flash a new rom onto my tytn II but I do not have windows or activesync on my PC.
I have tried searching but have not found the answer I need
Can I flash Hard Spl with linux only
Please help
Thanks in advance

You're probably best installing VM Ware onto Linux and then getting a copy of Windows to run through VM Ware. I think the USB should still work through this.
Not been tested but this is the best I can offer.

thanks for your reply
I have tried this and still no joy, someone must have linux installed and upgraded there rom on thr tytnII, I really dont want to have to install windows just for activesync

There is a SD method, but don't know if can work to put HardSPL, because HardSPL needs to execute SSPL into the PDA before flashing the new SPL.
I have tested WinXP box inside Windows Vista to flash using VMWare, and works fine, so XP box inside Linux must work too...
Cheers.

Thanks for your super quick reply
Is there a way to run the rom upgrade without Hardspl installed at all.
or perhaps run the Hardspl from sd card and then upgrade it that way.
Sorry to ask so many questions

I don't know what is hardspl, but have you checked hermflasher ?
Maybe it will work with some minor changes:

Yes, you can use the SD method with the ROM matching your CID (inside your SPL). This allows you to put a ROM from the manufacturer/oem of your Kaiser.
You sould not install any ROM before having HardSPL...
Search the SD method on the Wiki. With the Sd method you only copy the NBH file into SD and go to bootloader...
Cheers.

Thanks for your comments, very helpfull indeed I will look into both of the methods described and report back on my progress

I've used VMWare without a problem. Make sure you set up your fstab file to allow quickswapping USB in VMWare or else you have to constantly suspend and start windows just to get it to recognize the USB after it disconnects.

Hi
Does anyone have a copy of SSPL-KAIS.exe that they got attach or PM me. thanks.
After digging a little deeper this may work although it has been removed from the main site
**found it dont worry

Installing programmes on WM2005

Upgraded XDA2 running 2003 to an XDA Mini S running 2005. Programmes that I previously had running on 2003 (Amirsys/Elsevier -Pocket Radiologist series). Despite many suggestions and help from Elseviers techies in St Louis they now think it's an incompatibility that cannot be overcome. Has anyone any experience of patches etc or are these programmes now completely useless.
Having said that, I find the functionality of 2005 good with calls made and taken whilst running TomTom 5.21 - which is a vast improvement!
I think the only way is to watch out for a new version which is WM 5 compatible.
But I don't understand how u can make an XDA 2 to an XDA mini s with an rom upgrade? I think u mean something different.
cu
No. I've changed my XDA2 to an XDA Mini S (wizard) which is why I'm now using WM5. Kind of wish I'd stuck with WM3.
Looked in profiles but no option for newer phones

Hello k.griffin (& anyone else who is trying to get the Amirsys soft running under WM5),
I have some "older" programs that won't run on my new Wizard as well (including your example of Amirsys Pocket Radiologist, and, e.g. a PPC dictation program). I think this is an issue for everyone trying to migrate software to WM5 devices, and it is primarily associated with the new flash architecture of WM5.
I posted some questions regarding the Pocket Radiologist software to Elsevier, too. They said a WM5 version is being prepared but nothing has happend for quite a while now.
Interestingly, I have read forum posts that claim that by chance some people had discovered this software (and several other programs that usually can't cope with the WM5 flash architecture) will run after installing the "Arabizer" suite. This is said to be associated with changes in flash memory handling when this peculiar package is installed.
So my question to everyone who is familiar with WM5 and its memory structure: how plausible is that (at the moment I am thinking of ~1% ) ? I am rather unwilling to check it out blindly, because I am not fond of getting into long hours of installing and uninstalling tools for arabic character sets [that I don't need..] in vain..
Can anybody provide some statements on that ?
there is a hack for pocketradiologist so it work with wm5,
let me search it in my harddisk and will post it,but its seem its illegal
Arabizer
I installed Arabizer, but it doesn't makes a difference !
Who has the magical hack or can fix it in the registry ?

AFAIK the file "MSDAERES.DLL" is part of M$ VB runtime for PPC.
I will try to install it on my PDA this afternoon and let you know.
cheers.
I was able to install pocket radiologist without any problem.
First I installed ADOCE.WM5.CAB, then READER APPLICATION.PPC_2577.CAB and CHEST 100.PPC_2577.CAB.
It's quite good except the radiographs are quite small on PDA screen.
What operating system is on your PDA?
cheers.

Hi ttangcho,
thanks for replying. My operating system is WM5. My pda is a qtek 9000 with Spanish Rom. I tried making a soft reset before installing it, and later I tried a hard reset getting the same message in both actions.
I first tried to install ADOCEforMIMSonPDA from WM5 file but i got that message. So couldn´t keep on going.
What would you recomend me?
Thanks in advance buddy

I'm using WM5 WWE and I installed it after hard reset.
Try to install Ms VB Runtime on your device first. This VB runtime includes "MSDAERES.DLL". I hope this work. By the way, I installed it successfully without VB runtime.

Good to hear that you were able to install the program. VB runtime is way too big to put in the main memory. If you want to install VB runtime on the RAMdisk or SD card, do the followings.
1. Create "\RAMdisk\Windows" directory
2. Open your reg edit program and add \RAMdisk\Windows\ in the SystemPath
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=\RAMdisk\Windows\ \Windows\..............
(Note. this is Multi_SZ)
or you can cut and paste the following and add to your registry.
----------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=hex(7):5c,5c,52,41,4d,64,69,73,6b,5c,5c,57,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,\
5c,00,5c,5c,77,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,5c,6f,65,6d,5c,5c,00,5c,5c,52,65,6c,65,\
61,73,65,5c,5c,00,00,00,00
----------------------------------------------------
3. Soft Reset using SOFTWARE or power off and on couple of times and soft reset using your stylus.
4. Install VB run time on your RAMdisk.
This is how I did in order to install VB Runtime (3MB) and M$ .NET Compact platform 2.0 SP1(2.2MB) on the RAMdisk.
Cheers!

thanks you all buddies, it worked, at the end, but worked!!!
now i can go with all pocket radiologist on my handheld device, it´s really amazing!!!

Noob Question Need Help

Please dont get mad i looked every where to see if this had already been posted. When i run Hard-SPL I keep geting to 260 error it starts just fine asks me if i will grant access to the application which i do and it starts to do its thing but then halts and i get the 260 error and it dose not go any farther any suggestions?
did you remove your sim and sd card?
In addition, if you have not removed them back up your data. Then do a hard reset. Then remove sim and sd card. It maybe an open port problem so restart your computer as well. Hope this helps.
tried
Gave that a try after it asks if it is alright to load the file on my phone it auto resets phone then 260 error happening again im on vista 64 bit and even tried what the main website said for vista users but half the guide dose not really apply so im not sure what to do or what im doing wrong. any more suggestions?
Need Help
Anyone that has been able to run HardSPL on a vista 64bit system please point me in the right direction I really want to set up my custom roms on my phone that I have found! Please help!!!!!!!!
sorry i couldn't help you i always thought a 260 error was due to open connections or ports.
When you downloaded the zip file for hardspl did you use vista's unzip?
If so you may get an error because vistas unzip program sucks ass and you need to use another application to unzip the hardspl software.

Did you go through the connection settings in the mobile device manager and disable usb connections?
Are you using vista..sometimes it doesnt look for a new set of drivers for the Phone when its in tri color mode..try rebooting and leaving the phone in tri color mode...once you do that, start from scratch after it gets all the drivers installed
This advice is thanks to tochill. Try this and see if it works. Vista often does not automatically load the drivers. I used Vista 64 to flash without a problem. It was a little tricky to get it to load the drivers at first but after they are loaded you should be fine. If it doesn't work let me know and I will see if I can find the drivers for it.
Also make sure you have the most updated version of Windows mobile device center.
not sure what to do
When am I suppose to disable usb connections of the phone in WMDC ? and also I used winrar to extract the folder. also the phone auto reboots after it is promted to allow the program to launch to install hardspl and then I get the same 260 error again any more suggestions? Im sorry for all the trouble here I just really want to get this to work. everyone said it was easier to mod tilts but it seems to be harder then my iphone lol
update ur drivers if ur using vista
for me vista was a pain to flash so i just use my desktop which is xp and its happy flashing for me all the way...piece of cake now after u do it a few times

Before you connect your phone.
You don't need to do any of that. What you need to do is DL the USB driver from A/S & associate it with you device in WMDC. There are several good threads on doing it. Start Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723
Even tried xp
I have even tried using XP I still get the same outcome my phone auto restarts after I tell it to run the program. What am I doing wrong? I am suppose to run the main file off of my PC not the phone correct? and just go trough the setup?
Can some one tell me how they did it step by step because I have followed the instructions on the HARDSPL main thread and it dose not work. And so I am correct this will work with the new ATT Tilt right?
tried all of that still dose not work any other vista run arounds? God i wish i still had my xp discs
Please feel free to message me on aim username is kl3pto really could use some help.

Thanks that was a thread I was looking for to post to the OP as the next step. I have had to reinstall vista 5 times and each 5 times had to do something different to get it to work.
NP, I also suggest with Vista, you flash HardSPL via Jump. Don't flash ROM's or Radios with JumpSPL, but with the 1.93 SPL, I have tons more success using the Flash HardSPL method than the .exe

Rom flashing on a Mac

Has anyone ever tried to flash a rom or develop a rom that can be flashed by a Mac? I have Missing sync to sync my Tilt and to download .cabs and .exe's.
Works great by the way. I have flashed several roms from Windows XP on the " other side " of my Intel chip, so no problem there. Just wondering can it be done from the Mac side? And has anyone done it?
I have been using Macs and Apples for over 25 years ( started with Apple IIc) and never once had the urge to switch so comments from the "Apple Bashers" will mean nothing to me
Just curious.
no i'm not going bash apple but i haven't come across anything for mac and i believe the kaisercustomruu.exe can only be run only on windows
I have successfully flashed my Tilt using a Parallels install of XP Pro. Of course that requires an Intel Mac to accomplish...

I have flashed several roms using both Parallels and Bootcamp on the other side of my Intel/Mac chip and .exe file will not run on OS X but is it possible to create a rom using say a .dmg package instead of an .exe package?
The problem is far beyond the fact that the package is in exe the tools to actually flash the rom are windows only
I'd just flash from the MicroSD card.

Obviously you can't just re-package under a different file extension. What " tools " are you refering to? Kitchen tools? Again just re-packaging. Leopard can run on an intel chip. Word, Excel, etc, can run natively on a Mac. Can you put together a rom or write one from scratch that can be downloaded natively to a Mac and then flashed to a Kaiser? Even theoretically?
You can use whatever OS you want... Just do what Peterfnet suggested... Use the SD card method... It's safer and easier.
Just follow the link provided by Peterfnet!

It wasn't a "how do I flash a rom question " , I press a button and my screen twirls from OS X Leopard to Windows XP , I flash a new rom, press another button and my screen twirls back to Leopard and all my Mac apps. ( new Intel Chip for Mac)
The question was " what do the knowledgeable people here think? " Are there limitations of computer science that would prevent this or just limitations of available ground work that I could create?
Edit: I re-read this post and it sound kind of terse, I didn't meanit that way.
Thanks for your input Rayan
I see no reason why it would not be possible to flash a ROM natively inside Mac OS. But in order to do so, the flashing application written by HTC would need to be recoded to run on Mac.
If you extract the .exe file that is inside the rar file posted by the chefs here, you will see 5-10 files, one of which is the OS.nbh file. If you can write a program for Mac OS that can communicate with the Kaiser and call that file, then it would be possible. (DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a programmer, so it is a definite possibility that I could be talking out of my ass.)
Since flashing is not yet available to Linux users, then Mac is probably still a bit off.

best option all around
Well, ever since I discovered the SD Card method I don't flash it through the PC anymore... No more fears of freezing up, power failures and such!
In fact, I carry several "test" ROMS in my card just to install them on the go whenever I'm bored! LOL...
Here's an answer from someone who is paid to write software....
You're correct there is no technical reason that you can't flash your phone from a Mac OS.
Basically the whole process is a few commands & responses sent across the USB port and then the nbh image streamed via the port to the waiting device.
Here's the bind: Microsoft is well known for not working well with others. Why would they be motivated to provide non-MS OS the ability to flash "Windows Mobile"? It's kind of like iTunes being able to integrate with non-iPod MP3 players as well as it works with iPods (or so I've heard).
Thanks all , it looks like I have my next project. Thanks for all your input. peterfnet and Rayan thanks when HTC comes out with their new rom update and new driver package at the end of the month I'm going the card method for a change.

MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe vs. ROMUpgradeUt.exe (without Activesync installed)

Newbie question:
I've noticed that MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program as found in http://vidmes.com/xda/Uni/Radios/Universal_radio-1.15.00.rar does not require to have Activesync installed.
However, ROMUpgradeUt.exe program (the one included in excellent Tomal's ROMs) does require to have Activesync installed. If not, you get a "rapi.dll not found" error.
Both programs seem to work with my SPV M5000 (I have made a couple of flash operations with them, both Radio and ROM).
I don't like to have Activesync installed, so my question is:
Is it OK to understand that it is safe to always use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe instead of ROMUpgradeUt.exe when upgrading to newer HTC Universal ROMs. (specially with Tomal's ROMs)?
Thanks.
Please, confirm
Please, confirm if is it fine to always use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe instead of ROMUpgradeUt.exe when flashing new ROMs. I want to flash from a PC without Activesync installed, and thus ROMUpgradeUt.exe is discarded.
Thanks in advance.

Help with HardSPL flash!

Hey guys I have read all the articles on how to flash my fuze and I feel pretty confident in how I am doing it but I am having no luck on getting my fuze to flash the HardSPL. I am trying to use OliNex flash instructions. What is happening is that I have hooked my phone to a XP machine running Active Sync 4.5. I also made sure I had the .NET Framework 3.5 loaded. I run the RaphaelHardSPL-unsigned_190_1_3.exe. I follow the on screen instructions and then all of a sudden my phone goes black and you can here through Windows that the USB connection disconnects. The status bar on the computer stays at 0% and then after a few minutes it gives me a Error 262 Update Error and then starts the recovery process. My phone still works, but I can't seem to get it to flash. Any ideas?
Thanks
-Smicale
This is an error with the Custom RUU Wrapper.
Extract the .nbh file and load to the root of your storage card, search on "flashing spl from SD Card" for specifics.
I believe you rename it raphimg.nbh or something like that but I don't remember.
Enter bootloader and it will load from your card.
Hmm, I didnt know that HardSPL thingy can be execute inside microSD. I thought only ROM. Anyway, what OS you're using? I still have no luck with Vista or Windows 7 as they're keep on disconnecting USB. So until any fix on this, I keep my XP around

You can flash any .nbh file from bootloader.
Here is a brief instruction.
Also, for your PC issue, make sure you have netcf 3.5 installed.
