Hi Guys.
Very impressed with the forum here, and hell to you all
I am going to ask a question that some people may refuse to answer because they know it all but here goes...
What is all this "rom" changing about?
I want to get rid of the vodafone on my v1615 so that its a normal" kaiser, do i need to download a new"rom" and change it?
Also i would like to unlock it, can somebody point me in the right direction?
Will i loose any applications or features by changing the rom etc.
Thanks, just putting my mind at rest

well if you like what we do here... please respect the fact that this thread is highly organized and quite informative, as a matter a fact... right above your thread (the top) is a bunch of links that "point you in the right direction"
im not gonna start the newb bashing, but a little reading wouldve been easier than posting a new thread... go to the xda-wiki at the top brown bar... scroll down to kaiser... and read the whole thing. if you still have questions, then ask... deal?
all you need to do is read the wiki located at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser

i just spotted that.
Thanks. Looks like i'll be going to 6.1 very very soon!
Welcome on board Flashy.
Follow the advice given above.
Closing thread - question answered.

Ok so I read through some threads and you guys are all a million steps ahead of me..I would like a simple guide on how to put custom roms/modifing the phone..where to get apps for the phone..etc..remember im still learning here lol
by the way im using the Att Tilt on the rogers network..if that means anything lol
just do some reading... there is more literature in these forums than you would probably care to read. Use the search feature to find items related to what you are looking for. Additionally, read the Wiki for Kaiser. It will basically answer most of the questions you'll have.
noob questions
I agree with you. i have read lot of this and i am still lost.
I also would like to know if you can connect a tilt through your pc to the internet using a wireless broad band connection over bluetooth.
thanks a lot i shall take a look at the wiki

All you need is in this Wiki, and specificaly you need to look under "Hacks and Tweaks"
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
By all means read the Wiki. Read the Sticky post at the top of the posts listing.
But, I would not recommend anyone that is still at the stage of getting to know the phone and learning how to install programmes, to be thinking about flashing a new ROM.
I suggest you spend sometime in the regular Kaiser Forum, getting to know what the Kaiser can do/not do and absorbing information. Flashing can go seriously wrong if you do not have a clear view of what to do and in what sequence. The single sticky post in this forum would be your starting point when you have built confidence.(in particular the link to the ROM Flashing FAQ for Noobies.)

I agree with Mike....get to know the phone and then start small....ie.programs...new theme...etc......then try some of the bigger stuff.

My advice is to start where most of us started the 3rd sticky down, faq's, wiki, and just trial and error. There is a lot of info but it will all come in handy. Just by doing the stuff yourself and getting your hands dirty, you will have a better grasp on everything. And there is not a lot of personal hand holding here because of all the information. But welcome, and once you start this you won't stop, it really fun!

It's all in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Just read, read everthing
You need HardSPL before you can flash anything. And your ROM and Radio must be compatable when you flash. What that means is explained in there.

Dave
thanks for the feedback

I agree
I did it all myself... I just got my tilt last wednesday... takes some reading but it sure beats getting flamed.

Whenever joining a new forum, like visiting a good friends house, learn the customs & house rules straight away.
Take time to read the forum stickie threads at the top of each forum section. Your biggest helper will be the Stickies & the wiki. It's also a good idea to take a look at some of the older threads, specifically Blue Angel & Hermes when it comes to tools as you will learn much of the theory & knowledge that has gone into the tools most take for granted today.

Sorry.. truly sorry for asking such a dumb question. I have found and will use the NEWB flashing guide, but even there it doesn't suggest which ROM to use.
Jade? Maybe?
I have a ATT branded Tilt, latest crappy ATT 6.1 build and am ready for all of the improvements.
Since there are so many different ROMs of different flavors, it honestly is hard to tell which one to use in general.
Can someone make a good suggestion? I even saw off one of the linked site for the ROM images, one for the new touch HD?
Hoping for ease of use, speed, and better radio reception.
Thanks.. and again sorry for the newbie question

As you could have read in the board rules, we expect some degree of commitment and self-investigation.
We are not a helpdesk where you can simply throw out questions, we expect your first attempt to investigate it yourself.
To begin with: it is helpful to have a clear topic title.
It is also useful to clarify what the problem is, what you've already tried to fix the problem, where you searched, what you have found and why it did not work.
This thread is now locked, since the above is missing. You may open a new thread, but please first read the board rules carefully.
Furthermore, you absolutely don't have to be an expert on PPCs in order to post here, it's just that we like you to think for yourself.
