Evening,
Wonder if somebody can point me in the right direction...
I have a E650 - WM6 phone and connected it to my Wi-Fi router (Linksys)...
All was happy until yesterday - no settings have changed, but I can no longer browse over the wi-fi...every time I try, the phone fires up the GRPS connection.
Putting the phone into flight mode results in no browsing at all...
Phone is allocated an IP address from the router and I can see the phone in the router web interface / IP address list...
Any ideas?
Cheers

Hi all - i have my xda mini s setup to connect to the internet and collect my exchange emails all works fine.
i use it at work + at home a lot and both locations have a wifi broadband network.
i would like my xda mini s to only connect to GPRS for web browsing and emails when a stored wifi network is not in range (eg when im on the road)
Is it possible to enter in this preference anywhere? thanks in advance for any help
Actually, as far as PIE or any program that connects to the internet is concerned WiFi takes precedence over GPRS by default.
The problem is MS push mail. It forces GPRS even if WiFi is connected. If you try to serf to a graphics heavy site wile connected to both GPRS and WiFi you will see the speed difference.
I am not sure what the logic behind this MS stupidity is, and unfortunately I don't know of any cure except deleting the GPRS settings.
hi - and thanks.
damn.
well i did have a qucik test i went on the web and it seemed to be connecting to gprs (while i was already connected to a wifi network)
i will have a play.
There's one other thing I forgo to mention:
When connection to WiFi make sure you select the correct value under "This network connects to".
I assume your GPRS settings are under My ISP and that is what's selected in Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection.
You should then select "The internet" for the WiFi network.
Hi there, I'm having problem connecting to the internet using WIFI on my Tornado smartphone (SP5m)... it always connects but takes a while to locate the url, it says "Locating..." in Internet Explorer for a long time and then finally open up the url. To me, it looks like a DNS issue?!
And that's using my own WIFI router at home with a DSL line (5 Mbits), no firewall on it, etc.
But whenever I'm connected to any other WIFI access point (e.g. coffee shops, etc), web pages and other internet stuff would load and open as quick as any WIFI laptop, any thoughts??
Thank you all for your time,
highmighty
I'm having similar problem on my home wifi with 128bit WEP shared key - but i never get over loading...
But I discovered that if I run Skype on the phone, it can connect and since then internet works OK (even mail through POP etc...). I have no idea how to fix it :/, it works excelently with a free wifi networks...
Yep, could it be because my personal wifi connection uses wpa encryption as oppose to no encryption at all (like in coffee shops or elsewhere)?
Try assigning IP manually.
Where would I change that? I'm running WM6 on a SP5m and I don't see where I would modify the way IP address are assigned, either auto or manual?
Thank you for your time
To threadstarter, check your router settings, are you using WEP or WPA which you did not configure on your phone.
Then check to see if you have any MAC filtering included, also ensure DHCP is enabled on your router.
Last resort, if you are using Andot's Perfect English Edition v6, there should be a WLAN IP manager in it under Accesories
You know what? I installed Opera Mini and without changing any wifi settings (router & phone), it now works ultra fast, it locates the proper URL as quick as anywhere else... Internet Explorer for mobile seems to be the problem here?!
Here you go: http://www.modaco.com/WLAN-IP-Manager-t251147.html
You can change IP, gates, DNS and so on.
IE for mobile is slow...
How come IE for mobile is taking forever to "locate" the URL while Opera Mini locates it super fast? Does IE for mobile uses a proxy to render those pages? If so, can I disable that? What other tests could I ran to isolate the issue?
I'd like to find a permanent fix because I'd like to use IE for mobile, which works fine with youtube videos... thanks to you all!
I have 2 questions:
1. Internet over wifi doesn't work. I think wifi is working fine, becouse conmanager easiliy find my home AP and conect to AP.
But IE dosn't working at all over wifi, and over usb(activsync) IE working fine. Any solution??
2. Can i use activesync over wifi or join to my local network over wifi?
I have Qtek 8310
ROM: Greek WM6 ROM v5 by NiTroGen
OS: WM6 5.2.1616.18120 - Radio: 02.61.01 - SPL: 2.00.0014
budy wi-fi connection has some issues, that it gets connected with pc, or ppc, coz the connection settings are stored in router.. but as the connection remains down so IE wont work atall..and on wi-fi router u cant guess net connection is working or not.. check with ur net connection..

i can connect my laptop on my AP,
solution is maybe in aplicatio "Tornado Wi-Fi Settings "
siouxNS,
I had similar problem on XDA IQ. WIFI was connected to the AP, but IE was stuck in 'locating', and after some time (about 1 minute) error message appeared. I noticed, that when pinging my phone IP from laptop (also in my home network) few pings were ok (just after wifi connected to the AP), and rest of them timeouted. Sometimes, but very rarely, all ping responses were ok (I used ping -t on windows).
So, what I did to get wifi connection working:
1. started IE, when wifi is off
2. started wifi
3. shortly after wifi connected to my AP, I opened some internet page in IE (try to use one, that is not cached) - and it worked
And this works for me every time now.
Few more things:
- check that IE uses the same connection, to which wifi is assigned.
- you can use WLAN IP manager to manually set your IP, gateway and DNS servers
- my system is: windows mobile 6, OS 5.2.318, build 15341.0.0.1
hey guys,
I have the same problem. just flashed the new v3.6, can connect to the router, can even ping the mobile from my laptop via wlan, but still get the no connection error - from IE and opera.
what can I do?
EDIT:
finally got it. just had to change the type of internet from 'private/work' to 'internet'. thats it. stupid comment about vpn under it confused me...

whatkind manager u use? i use "tornado WI-FI settings"
on home network i use static IP's
adsl router, 192.168.1.1 (gateway)
wirelles AP 192.168.1.252
phone is connecting with 192.168.1.5 ,
can i use DHCP and DNS?
one more thing, when i go in some caffe with hotspot i don't have any problems with connecting and surfing.
I hope some of the more experienced Qtek users can help, I am really happy with my Qtek 9100 in the most part, I can use the internet explorer and outlook features when I connect to the internet via the USB cable via my laptop but when I want to connect to wifi connections in hotels etc or hot spots when travelling and try to access the wifi connection as usual it asks me for the password, I enter the password but am never able to connect to the web can any one help, it's driving me to despair.
Cheers
first of all (and i'm aware it's a stupid comment), notice you're not backspacing your chars when entering the password.
secondly, check your network definitions for anything weird which might interfere with connecting to the networks..
and make sure they are free to use hotspots, alot in airports arent..
Hi !
Few days ago I have noticed problem with wifi. I searched some on net and I found thing called "death grip" , but it's not the solution. My Wi-Fi is still turning off and on, it always says that is searching for a wifi connection (even if its off), it's not router's problem (ASUS RT-N10) becouse I have Desire connected, my PC and other PC.
And a second thing is a camera focus. Text on photos is blurred and macro looks like not working.
I have tried a lot of ROMs and problems are still the same . Any help ?

It seems that this is yet problem of the router. I also have it was. The router assigned to an existing network IP. First I solved the problem using a static IP. And then I turned on a dynamic IP, but set up a router, linking IP and MAC (I have a D-Link DIR-300).
Staic IP on a phone or on router ?
@I found Wi-Fi once but after a while i lost connection again and it says "error"
HTC sometimes find weak signal without a housing but its losing after a moment. I dont know how to fix it ... Its pretty annoying .
Please describe more exactly how to set router or phone on staic IP.

On a phone: "Settings - Wireless&networks - Wi-Fi settings - Menu - Advanced - Use static IP". Then set IP address, Gateway, Netmask and DNS1. For example (router 192.168.0.1):
192.168.0.5
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
192.168.0.1
