That's the operating settings for the UK networks only. There's already a utility that sets automatically the operator settings for any network worldwide!

Yeah, not quite. Doesn't have Fido in Canada.
Well, it's got all greek networks, so Fido must be a really unimportant network!!!

We have Rogers, which is/was our biggest cable monopoly. Each baby-bell (the different provincial telco companies that resulted after the break-up of the Ma Bell monopoly), and Fido... recently bought by Rogers/AT&T, but still with its own operator settings.
It's not like we have enough providers for any one of them to be unimportant; especially when all the baby bells are CDMA...

I asked this in the regular forums and didn't get any helpful response, so I thought I would try here. I'm sure there is something you cookers can come up with.
I've searched for an answer on this and couldn't find any. My apologies if I didn't search for the correct thing.
I have an AT&T Fuze that is unlocked (using an EnergyROM) and I am using it on the BELL HSPA network. Everything works fine but the phone thinks it is roaming all the time. It's not, but the phone thinks it is.
This doesn't present much of a problem except with apps that don't allow or always prompt for permission to use data while roaming. I am using custom ROM's and right now the one thing I can't use and would like to is the Twitter tab in Sense 2.5. I can use it on WiFi but over cellular it gives a connection error.
Is there something I can change in my settings or the registry to make my phone realize the Bell HSPA network is the correct network and that it isn't roaming?
No Help from Bell...
Hi, I am in the exact same situation. I had to search around the settings on Bell WM phones to find the data APN = pda.bell.ca (try and get that info from anyone working for Bell)...
I have the same "roaming" issue but I only noticed it with the weather tab not using "My Location" in NRG's SenseUI rom.
I have been trying many different settings and am about to try replacing the manila registry with NFSFAN's Sense manila registry settings from my CDMA TP (BEST ROM I HAVE EVER USED BY THE WAY).
I just got this new phone because the HSPA network gives better reception than CDMA in some areas I am working right now.
Still roaming...
I have not had any success yet, but I am looking at how Bell phones differentiate between the multiple networks since they share with Telus.
I am considering trying to get a hold of a Samsung Omnia II from Bell, since it uses WM 6.5.
Bell and Telus use the same equipment, so I am looking to extract some info from the rilphone.dll or whatever it uses to determine if it is roaming or not.
In searching through the forums I have found a number of individuals with this unique problem.
Apparently Bell/Telus use a few different network home settings, and the one to use is not the first one on the list.
A quote from my findings so far - "Technically, 302610 and 302860 are Bell and Telus respectively, and they both use the 302880 network."
If anyone has the ability to extract this info on how the Bell Mobility phone does this, there are a growing number of us that would like a fix for this little issue when using phones from other networks on Bell or Telus.
Roaming on the Fuze, but with a Bell GT-I8000L to dissect
I have found an interesting CAB file on the Bell Omnia II that changes the data settings on my Fuze, but I have not got it to work yet. It is attached to this post.
Bell has chosen to make the data settings hidden from the user, and this file accomplished that much on my Fuze.
My hope is that maybe someone can look at this file and gain some insight on how Bell settings are different from the rest of the world.
I also have copies of the registry files, but am having a little difficulty uploading them for the moment.
I'm in the same boat with my AT&T Topaz that I've got running on Bell. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Does anything in Settings->Phone->Network need to be changed when provisioning the phone? Mine only shows 302880 and Rogers as available networks, with 302880 being the preferred.
302880 is Bell, and I think it could be Telus as well.
I am really hoping that someone smarter than me can look at this file and modify it to work in an HTC phone.
I have only looked at it with Notepad after unzipping the file with 7-Zip, and the xml file puts a bunch of settings into a Samsung folder in the registry.
My provisioning process...
Here's my provisioning process. Maybe someone can point out something I'm doing wrong:
a) Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks
b) Click "New"
c) Under "General" enter "Bell Mobility" as name
d) Under "Modem" click "New"
i) Enter "Bell Mobility" as name
ii) Select "Cellular Modem (GPRS, 3G)" under Modem type
iii) Enter "pda.bell.ca" under "Access Point Name"
iv) Leave User/Pwd/Domain blank e) Under Proxy Settings:
i) Check "this network connects to the internet"
ii) Check "this network uses a proxy..."
iii) Enter "web.wireless.bell.ca" under "Proxy Server"
f) Under "Network Manager" Select "Bell Mobility" from the drop down under "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:"
For MMS, I repeat the process above, replacing "Bell Mobility" with "Bell Mobilty MMS". In the messaging app, I go into "SMS/MMS" and select "MMS Options" from the menu. On the "Servers" tab I enter the following:
a) Server Name: "Bell Mobility MMS"
b) Gateway: <leave blank>
c) Port Number: 80 <this is the default>
d) Server Address: "http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc"
e) Connect via: "Bell Mobility MMS"
f) Send Limit: "300K"
g) WAP Version: "WAP 2.0" <this is the default>
h) Select "Done" to go back to the "Servers" tab
i) Select the "Bell Mobility MMS" entry and click "Set as default".
j) Select OK to close the MMS Options and Reboot/Soft Reset

Provisioning looks fine.
This thread is dealing with the roaming issue on Bell Mobility.
I have uploaded the registry files from my Bell Mobility Omnia II for someone to see what can be modified on my Fuze or any other HTC phone for that matter to work on Bell without the roaming symbol.
I noticed a number of unusual items when searching for "302"
Bell Samsung registry files
There are quite a few differences under the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr] vs what I have on my hand provisioned phone. I'm tempted to just delete that branch of my registry and reimport this one just to see what would happen along with the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook] branch. I can always hard reset is there's a problem.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL] also has some stuff that I don't have.
I have tried making a copy of the ril.dll file, but it seems to be blocked from copying from the Bell phone. There are also a few rilbubble.dll files and a rilgsm.dll file on the Bell phone.
I tried importing the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr] and [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook] branches but it made no difference. In fact I noticed that the phone thinks its roaming before the HSPA connection even comes online. I'm starting to think that this is something to do with the network and not the phone. Is it possible that Bell is monitoring IMEI numbers at the network level and that any IMEI they don't have in their DB they identify as roaming?
Did you notice that [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State] has a lot of subdirectories containing "302"?
ie [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\RIL\NetID\CS]
"302880"="Bell"
I also wonder about the Samsung directory being full of phone stuff.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\SAMSUNG\Phone]
If any of these are being referenced by the ril.dll file or some other file, I cannot even figure out how to copy these files from the phone to dissect.
Did you try to copy the dll files to the SD card with Total Commander?
Btw, I don't see a [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\RIL\NetID\CS] branch in the registry files you posted.
Sorry, I will upload the registry files before a sim card was inserted later this evening. I thought about that after. I just cleared memory on the Bell phone, and a bunch of registries are not there now. I may have cleared memory with a sim card still in it before.
Yes I have tried Total Commander and a few others, and the files will not be copied. I am ready to try dumping the rom and checking to see what I can.
I do need to sell this Omnia 2 soon before it starts to lose its value too much.
I doubt the ril files will make any difference on a HTC anyway. They basically broker the calls between the OS and radio firmware. The HTC radios will be so different they wouldn't do anything anyway.
Well I have tried importing a number of these settings to the point that other things have dropped off, or changed, but that annoying little roaming symbol remains.
I have an I8000 kitchen, and I am going to dump the ROM from the Omnia2 before I sell it, so I have something to take apart and examine. I don't know how that would interface with an HTC kitchen, but I will keep on trying until I get this.
I believe that Bell would have a program AND some settings in the registry to cause problems for other phones. Just talking with ANY Bell rep about basic internet settings on the HTC shows off their bad attitude and pride, so I would not put anything past them.
Thank you for your help on this codf4ther. I know their is a growing number that would like to see this issue resolved.
I've been looking at some other threads on howardforums about unlocked phones. Whats interesting is that the NexusOne doesn't seem to show as roaming. Telus Android phones (Milestone) don't show as roaming, but Rogers and Fido Phones do.
Bell and Telus share the same towers and basic connection, so it seems reasonable that a Telus phone will work fine on Bell. I am tempted to get a Telus SIM and try that theory with this Bell Omnia2, but I have yet to unlock it. I'm looking for the best unlocking price (free would be great since I will be selling it anyway).

Telus is explainable, but why wouldn't the Nexus show up as roaming?
I need the help of xda-developers!! I have a HTC Hermes and so far only one rom - I can't remember which, recognizes my Virgin (UK) sim as "Virgin" or "3G Virgin" - all the others I have tried see it as "T-Mobile UK" or similar. Is there anyway to fix this without things like Personalizer. I do not want to make the operator name fixed, I just want it to recognize it as it should.
EDIT: It was MrDSL ROM that recongized it as Virgin:
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543842&highlight=mrdsl I tried the 3G version.

well what does not work when the rom sees your sim as "tmobile uk"
you can manually set the data settings if that is what is wrong.
Well nothing doesnt work - it's just that I want it to correctly recongize the sim. I realize that I have to set the data network manually, but I want it to say Virgin in the corner without me setting it that way with the Personlizer or the registry hack, because if I use that and go roaming I will need to disable it.
Whilst on the subject of Virgin Mobile, can one of the mods add Virgin as an option for the carriers on the User CP, I only chose T-Mobile cos Virgin uses their network here in the UK.
QuePPC UNLEASH ROM also works for me.
Hi
I just bought a second hand unlocked HD2
I am on Orange. The phone will pick up 3G but I need to sync with Exchange. At work we have our own APN options. So , I have go into the connection tab but from some reason , there is no Cellular 3G,GPRS option, only GPRS. The phone does sync, but I don't think I am getting a 3G connection
With my previous phone Diamond 2, when I did the same thing, the 3G was an option
Am I missing something?
Which version of HD2 did you buy? Did you even check if your HD2 3g bandwidth is compatible with orange?
Not sure I understand your question , but I believe I have a
HD2 T8585
Did you even check if your HD2 3g bandwidth is compatible with orange?
Others at work, have a HD2, so it will work on 3G. I was unaware that there was different types of HD2!!
as long as your basically anywhere but america the 8585 should work (dont quote me on this, obviously there are others) ie uk, europe, south africa should work. I believe australia has their own band specific version as well...
id suggest you go to the rom site, install an original rom, and see if it works afer you run an auto configure in the network settings.
Alternatively, try flashing a new radio rom and see if it works. the 2.07.50 works well for me in SA. some others also only give me EDGE.
I don't know how you have it in your country, but here in Denmark the providers have downloadable 3G settings to their networks that we have to pull down to get it to work...
Unless of course we set it up manually.
Maybe you haven't gotten the setup from Orange?
Hey there, you should check your band settings:
Go to settings > connections > network advanced > in the first tab you can choose "off" or "only HSDPA" or "HSDPA/HSUPA". click on the last option for 3G band.
My former devices (X1i and Hermes) you had band-settings for GSM or 3G but on the HD2 i cannot find it, so this option is changed in WM6.5 i guess.
Hi guys,
I have 2 x Nexus S SIM free mobiles which I bought from Car Phone Warehouse in the UK, which we are using now in Spain.
Both handsets have SIM's for the Simyo network (Which is basically Orange's network).
Even though both handsets are unlocked to all networks, I constantly have the roaming icon showing, and I have to enable roaming and data roaming to have coverage.
Now I know beyond any doubt the handsets are NOT roaming.
Has anyone encountered this bug in the Nexus S please, it is really annoying.
Regards
not a bug, simyo has its own network code, which is different from orange's. Therefore, when you use orange's network, it's roaming. Simyo and orange have a roaming agreement, just like yoigo and movistar.
For now, you'll have to enable data roaming for data to work. (there was a discussion somewhere about not labeling it roaming when the country code is the same, which is the case for most of MVNOs)

Thanks for that info. My misses is saying she tried a mates Orange SIM and that it did not show roaming.
However, we also both had Nexus One's, which we purchased here in Spain. Did not get the roaming icon when using the Simyo cards on those...
It is bloody annoying, as we also loose connectivity sometimes and keep having to re-enter the passwords to our google accounts :-\

Ah, you can fix that!
simyo uses dual sim cards (sims with 2 numbers), to make their roaming agreements easier to manage internationally. When you go abroad, it switches from the spanish number to a netherlands one, i believe (though you don't notice it), just like if you changed the sim card.
The thing is, the switch is made when the sim card detects no service for a while. Problem is, that can happen when you lose signal for a while (underground parking, metro, etc...) And what happens when you change your sim card on an android device? yes, you lose google login.
Solution is to lock the sim card to use the spanish number always. You need a phone with STK app (sim menus), and you need to go to Servicio Simyo -> servicio roaming -> seleccion de red -> Seleccion manual -> Nacional. All nokias can access this menu, for example, but stock nexus doesn't have a stk app.
After changing that, hopefully you won't see the login error again. And about the nexus one: it must use a slightly different method to determine roaming, something I don't really know too well.
Woo, OK thank you for the info. Never knew about the dual number thing. Interesting...
This STK stuff, you know of any app for Android mate?
Regards
Hi, just to confirm, I did manage to fix the SIM issue, I borrowed a mates Nokia 1200 and as you said, I entered the STK menu and switch it to Nacional.
MANY THANKS!!
Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device
Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.
Sent from my Evita
If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.
thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this
nevermind, i finally fixed it
Please share the fix so the information is available for anyone who might have the same problem in the future.

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.
Thankyou, these threads live on long after we're finished with them so it's important to have the information readily available for future troubleshooters.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.
Happy you got it figured out.
