Do I need to change the clock?

This is the first time changed I have gone through with this phone. It has not changed the time by itself like most other phones and computers do. Do I need to do it manually, synch it up or will it do it itself after a while?

Not sure how it all works. I happened to be (drunkenly ) using my XDA2 at 2am this morning when the time changed and it changed the hour itself and gave me a dialog box to let me know. I wasn't connected to ActiveSync at the time.
I would have thought yours would have changed automatically too, provided your location/timezone is set correctly in its little brain. I don't think all locations have daylight saving.

Well I even did a soft reset to see if that would somehow help but to no avail. I guess I could manually change it but I can not imagine that it is not supposed to do it itself. Plus I do not want to change it manually and then have it change itself sometime soon and make me off another hour Any thoughts?

seem to recall some place where you set it to auto change but i could be confusing it with the auto adjust when you sync
have you choosen the right country under local settings ?

Does anyone know how to unlock an MDA II from admin control?

I'm pulling what's left of my hair out.. Somebody must know how to help me out.
My problem is. As a subby to a very large firm, I have been issued, along with hundreds of other guys, a T Mob MDA II details bit:-

I guess you'll need it. Well, an admin geeza has locked them all up sooo tight we can use it to make a phone call and oh yes the other thing receive a phone call.. Imagine my excitement!!!
NO menus no FUNctions nothing! just login as administrator. Now, though very basic, i have a laptop running W98, with Microsoft active sync 3.8, a comm D9 pin to cradle (XDA II from O2 shop) oh yes and no active sync!
what can i do to open access to this wonder of Tech and close the "Kiosk Switcher" window i may not escape from??
PLEASE HELP ME! P.s. great site guys, lookin forward to using my unit as soon as i can.

Doesn't it violate any company agreements/contracts if you modify your company issued MDA ?

Well, i have actually paid in full for the MDA. It's locked up to stop some ppl messing the things up. I'm not the brain of brit but i have a plan. 512mg MMc on its way and no danger of compant software being messed up. :idea:

Well, it sounds to me that they have modified a reg. string that gets loaded and written during the hard reset, (i.e. somewhere in the Ext_Rom!)
Try to press CANCEL while loading (installing) the ExtROM stuff and if the TAPDisable is functional.. then press on the center NAV button during the same process.
I know that restriction :evil: it sucks huh :?:

how about if you just reflash it to 1.72?
all that admin stuff will be gone as last year's snow...
you can even flash it with 1.60 stock version if you like...

Since you paid for it, take it to the admin geeza and tell him to unlock it.
Make sure you look menacing when you tell him.

Update!!
Joy, got in by nav keying the hard reset! Result, had a play but most s/w hadn't installed. This gave me a taste of things to come. Now i looked in the startup for this alpha sequence that boots the thing to locked window and realised it hadn't been installed yet so unable to get rid now i know it's there some where as i hard reset it again and back to sq 1 again!!! this stuff is stored somewhere, but where should i look. gained active link via IR aswell. will re try just need a map to the memory holding install S/W in the hope that maybe i can re write the lock up bit and hard reset to an open book!

Now that you have succeeded in breaking the start-up sequence, you are left with a basic WM2003.
What did not install iis in the ExtROM.
IF
You install the ExtROM Tools (found on tis site), you can unhide the ExtROMand then one by one install the apps that are in there, UNTIL you find the one that introduces the blocking of functionalty. To do that (after unhide & unlock) look at the config.txt file. That file lists the installation script.
When you find the blocking app, one more time hard-reset, install the tools, inhide AND unlock and: Just remove the line with the app that introduces the blocking.
After you finished dont forget to LOCK the ExtROM & hard reset . . .
BTW Flashing is a good idea too, but maybe you lose some company-specific apps you might need . . .

Well i found the offending item last night after many resets and nav key meddling... looked in file explorer/storage and an auto run file(?) was there with a clue in it's title. i hadn't read the reply above at that time so i just put an mmc card in, cut n paste jobbie on the file to the mmc card and Bob became my uncle. I hard reset again to go for the full install and it stayed unlocked from the kiosk switcher!! RESULT! However, the above sounds like a far more sencible idea!! Will do that for the rest of the gang..

i'm finding USB settings every where but my cradle is a D9 pin comm connection. Is there some specific settin listed in the instruction manuals we never had with the MDA's?
Oh yes. the V2.2 unlocker worked first time for me. No probs as yet to report... OPCS sim works fine. better signal in some places but only to be expected from a different network!

... it is funny...
i can remember, that there was a guy here on the forums, some time ago, asking how he can lock XDAs for employees... just wanted to allow them using the phone only...
maybe it was your geeza admin... ;o)))

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE..... Just how much info there is on Locking these up. Every site every official O2 an T Mob Site hold details on who, where and how to lock the babys up. Could i find a thing on unlocking?? Beleive me I did my home work. I know soo much about the selfish safe software and by total luck i heard of this site. Full of PDA guru's i was told!

Cheers for the guidence guys. If i wasn't told you could interrupt the installer i would have tied a noose round the MDA's bettery by now!! Hope this string helps others in my OLD shoes.

Help Annoying ROM

1st things first complete noob i apologize for any stupidity in the following post. Right i have faria wm6 ROM on my phone it is unlocked and i did all the steps to installing as to the instructions on this forum. Now heres wots happening my device will not load past the boot screen where it says windows mobile unless i take the battery out, now i thought it might be because of the new american dst so i ran the microsoft cab to patch it up. Well no luck there i sync my time it lags so much so i take the battery out it resets to feb 2006 and it's fine. Also active sync is a pain when you click sync the bar comes up at the bottom and thats it no roatating arrows the softkey does not change to stop. Also when i configure my exchange it says message format and i can change to plain txt or html well wen i first used it i could change it to html but now its stuck on plain txt but i dont know whether thats a setting my exchange provider has to change on there sever - i dunno. But it all seems to revolve around active sync and the devices time. Please help or point me in the right direction because i would hate to go back to t-mobiles rom which is boring!

This post makes no sense to me. First you say you can't boot past the 3rd splash screen (Windows MObile 6). Then you start talking about doing cab files and other stuff (which indicates you are past this screen and working on your device).
Please take a breath and give us more information and full details of exactly where you are at. You also have to tell us your current IPL, SPL, and OS versions that show when you boot the phone (we need exact numbers to be able to help). Is your phone a G3 or G4? What is the last / current ROM you have on your phone? Are you now able to get into your phone (ie: did you flash back)? Is your phone CID Unlocked?

Sorry for my confusing post. I am able to get past the boot screen if i take my battery out and put it back in but turning on normally It wont get past if you get what i mean. further explained below...
Heres my numbers: ipl is 2.21, spl 2.21 os 2.18 gsm 02.19.11 , it is CID unlocked, it was flashed to farias rom from t-mobiles latest rom. Ive flashed farias rom twice now going back to t-mobiles first in both instances.
The main problem i seem to get is with the devices time - i'll try to explain this as well as i can - if the devices time is set to now then it is really slow and active sync does not work and the today screen will only show the time and nothing else like messaging, live, tasks, calender etc. and if you reset the device it does not get past the boot screen. Taking the battery out therefore reseting the devices time it works great but changing the time back to now and it lags again. Hope you understand this
P.S. I have installed microsofts dst patch

I honestly don't know if this will help, but you might try flashing the latest TMobile US ROM to get you to 2.26 instead of 2.21

Then flash Faria's over that. Note that the 2.26 ROM will put the 2.25 Radio on your phone. You may want to then get the 2.19 UK radio from the ftp site here and go back to that one (I find the 2.19 works better than the higher versions on WM6 for me).
Also (and maybe before doing what I just suggested) try either turning off BatteryStatus, or upgrading it to 1.04.201 Beta 3. There have been fixes and I had a lockup problem (I couldn't reboot my phone if the USB cord was plugged in and BatteryStatus 1.04.200 Beta 2 was running). I'll attach the cab to this post.

Are you overclocking or anything? Have you installed other apps, or does it work this way right after installing Faria's WM6 rom?
Faria's WM6 ROM is very good and I've never seen stuff like this reported so it seems its something with your setup. You could try flashing the fixed mUn's ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1172977&postcount=361 ) and see if it behaves the same way. If it does then you have an issue with your phone it would seem. If it doesn't then its an interaction with software on the device.

You don't have to install this on WM6.

Wierd problem with backup battery

I hope someone knows the answer to this wierd problem!!!
When I had the original WM5 ROM from i-Mate installed, all work well. When I started installing the various WM6 versions, a strange problem occurred. Although the main battery was charging normally, the built-in backup battery failed. So, if I removed the main battery, the phone would reset itself back to 01/01/2006.
At first I just thought that the built-in battery had packed up and didn't worry about it. As soon as I plugged the phone into the PC, the time and date was automatically updated, so it was no big deal.
Anyway, when I installed NiTroGenious's WM6 Platinum Edition, I was amazed to find that the backup battery had started charging again. I could removed the main battery, put it back and there was no loss. Great!!!
Now I have installed GnatGoSplat's WM6.1 ROM and, guess what, it's not charging again!!!!
I don't really want to go back to WM6 so I hope someone knows how to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem?

But all seems okay with USB charging (set to 1). It would appear to be a registry setting

Nitro's ROM didn't fix your battery. Its an HTC hardware or software problem, where the phone stops keeping the time settings. I can't say this for sure, but from what I see, Nitros ROM keeps track of current time. If the battery is removed, when you start phone again, it will start with Last Known Time(when you removed battery), then will further update that time with either PC time when you sync with PC or Server time if your Service Provider has the feature and you have it ticked in your Time Settings. Nitros ROM syncs time with Service Provider "IF" your company has that feature. Mine does and now my phone syncs with server. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Gnat's 6.1 doesn't sync time with server. However, if you read Gnat's thread, he has stated that he is re-working the ROM and will very soon have a more pure and clean/less buggy ROM. I have already sugested him to see if its posible that his new ROM will have Time Sync. If you have CeleTask on your phone, go to MENU-->UTILITIES-->POWER STATUS and you will see your Backup Battery status there. Mine reads 255% Status: High Voltage: 0mV

As far as I know, Yes. I have 2 identical SDAII's and both have same problem. One I bought with the problem already, the other one was NIB and the problem started few months later.

Same problem here...
I have an Orange SPV C600 and even before I upgraded to WM6.1, if I remove the battery, the time / date is lost. So I agree, it's nothing to do with the ROM anyone is using. For me though, I never need to remove the battery. I don't change SIM cards, or memory cards so there's just no need. As mentioned, as soon as you sync it's automatically corrected, so no big deal there

Hide SIM contact

Hi I have problem permanently hide SIM contact.
I used registry editor and made this chage:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone
"ShowSim"=dword:0
It works perfectly until I made soft reset. After soft reset went the value ShowSim back on 1 and I see the SIM contact again.
Am I doing something wrong ? I made many others changes in registry which are without change after soft reset.
Please help.

Change the value to 0,close properly regeditor(menu-exit) and softreset using some software utility or hold power key for power off. Don't use hardware reset button!

You can hide contacts with Advanced Config It really works even after soft reset...

This is strange, bud I tested all and it comes allways back on "1" after soft reset.
Do I need to do some unlock to be able make changes in HKEY_CURRENT_USER ? Other modifications in registry was permanent...

This also happens on my device, have tried changing this in AC and editing the reg, but with a soft reset it comes back

I'm lost, I've tried this just now and again they keep coming back I really don't know what else to do now

It MUST be performed like this (try to not ommit any step)
1.Change known registry value to 0
2.Install NikiSimFix patch
3.SHUT DOWN TP - don't perform Soft Reset - SHUT DOWN TP.
Now....it works

I just don't get it anymore....
After doing all these steps it just won't work.
In my contact list I can see still all my contacts twice.
True my mobile shell I can see my contacts twice...
ONLY with my spb diary I see them once....
Really really strange.. who gets this?

Just a precaution....because if someday ( only god knows when ) my device crashes of whatever....I will loose all my contacts....and that's something i do not like...

For those who can't get this working, which ROM are you using? NikiSimFix worked fine for me on the stock ROM, but I've tried everything on DCS V13 and V14 ROMs and nothing works.
Interestingly if you make the registry change and you don't use TouchFlo 3D then this is fine, but as soon as TouchFlo starts the SIM contacts reappear. What I have found is that if you make the registry change after a soft reset the SIM contacts will remain hidden until the next soft reset (or until you manually restart TouchFlo).
I made a .reg file to do this quickly (below), but I would still rather find a permanent solution.

ahh allrighty...I misunderstood it then...
But also this fix didn't work 4 me...
Get a little bit tyred of it now....I just don't understand why I still can see all my contacts twice!
I will explain what I did...
I did the setting in AC, then I checked the setting in DT after that I checked the setting @Regiustry editor... So now knew 4 sure everything was off.
I runned my .cab and after that I turned my tp down.. no reset but just turned it down...
didn't work.. also didn't work witrh a soft reset...
