Im currently using 1.27.12.11 radio rom - i find that it looses signal quite a lot has anyone on tmobile had any experience of using 1.27.12.17 and does it improve signal and battery life?
hey i would have to say that i get a poor signal around my house...had the mda vario..and wherever i am in my house i get full reception with that
as for battery life i have no idea jus yet...
so .17 is definately better for reception!
Where can I get that radio ROM JPHCCFC? I get bery poor T-Mopbile reception in my house.
Also does burning it wipe all settings and stuff on the phone (sorry, newbie)

the link didnt work for me...am i doing something wrong?
I'm having horrible problems with my vario3! People can't even call me, says that i'm unavailable... sometimes it won't send text messages, I can't make calls on it!
I'm going to send it back and see if they can fix it. My second vario so far.... first one kept on freezing.
Has anyone got the full t-mobile rom? I want to flash my phone to see if that helps but I want to be able to get back to factory t-mobile rom if I need to send it back for warranty.
Can someone post the link in its entirity please?

Try that.
The thing I've most noticed about this radio stack is the improvement to BlueTooth. It seems to hold onto 3g/hsdpa signals better as well.

But radio ROM isn't related to BT or Wifi functions...
Anyone have tried this Radio ROM and can post compared results with the 1.27.12.11 about 3G coverage and battery consumption?
Thanks.
Hmm interesting might have to try this radio ROM myself... anyone else tried it and noticed better signal/HSDPA signal etc?
still getting poor radio with .11 anyone tried .17 lately??

I install this ROM and found no major problems till now, everything looks the same as vers. .11 only I had 1 problem with .11 I must always click a few times on the send button with a incoming call before it connect now only 1 puss and it takes the call
Installing this radio now, report very soon... bye
No any problem reveald during the new radio installation.
Phone restarting normal, no problem.
Installed on no branded Htc Italian phone.
Test in progress for duration life battery and antenna function, bye
First impression 3G signal are more stable(first only one line power) at this moment same position have a maximus power, no disconnession and work very good, and more better reception.
For battery report, wait same day of use.
Bye
Same impressions as previous post, stable, signal seems to be more powerful, for battery you have to wait
Bye and tnx u all !!!
As per the other replies, I too am experiencing better hold on signal.
I also note that the radio seems to update loss of signal faster than .11
(Installed on an unbranded HTC TyTN II - UK)
Yes, another good report....

Hi!
I'm soooooo damn tired facing thousands of radio issues day in and day out
I'm using radio rom 1.15 and i find it extremely buggy . I looked through the forums and noone seems to be complaining, so i wonder if i'm the jinx here :/
The problems i face are -
1. All of a sudden i cant make calls. It throws a notification popup saying "The call has failed". Thanks! The only way out....restarting the radio. And yea, thats a nightmare too....going to comm manager, switching of phone, and switching it back on....the damn thing doesnt work right AT ALL! I switch it off....and push the button again to turn it back on, nothing happens....i push it again and again and again a million times....it gets too painful. So what do i do instead? soft reset
2. My gprs connectivity goes for a toss every now and then. again, the same ordeal....it never connects until i soft reset or restart the radio.
3. The worst part, when the phone module has taken a crap....i.e....reached a state where no calls go thru (refer problem 1.), i cant even receive incoming calls! The person calling me gets a ringing tone, but my phone's a dead corpse here. All messages sent to me are "apparently delivered" but nothing shows up here....
Is it just me?
Is there a better radio rom?
I restart my phone roughly 5 times a day, once in the morning when i wake up WITHOUT FAIL....and all this is getting to me really bad :-/

Well i see you are from Banglore,im from Hyderabad,i have been using the 1.15 radio for ome time now with the pdav latest rom(.09) sometimes my phone acts a little strangely like when receiving a call sometimes the incoming call icon stays there for about 10sec before the screen comes on the call status one.I switched over to radio 1.09 which i found the most stable on my O2 exec, but in my experience radio roms also behave differently depending on location, and also the os system try to use 1.09 as i found it the best for me in India.
Radio versions works differently depending on your location.
Try other radio versions.
Or better yet, just use the radio version that came with your device.
Do not upgrade your radio unless your having problems with it.
Like our friend here at xda-developers said, "If it's not broken, don't fix it."

Radio Rom?
If you are still having issues, also post back your OS Rom that you are running, this may also have some bearing on the underlying issues.
Cheers,

Using radio 1.15:
With Ivan's base it causes my device to experience problems with the phone and GPRS\3G
With Midget's base everything seems to work fine
(btw I have an O2 Exec - Just suggesting that it may be the differences in hardware...)
dreamtheater39:
Same problem here.... Since I (sim) unlocked my MDA-Pro I'm experiencing EXACTLY the same problems as you have.
I posted several items on this forum, no success till now.
I'm thinking of reassembeling my old MDA-Pro, which is sim locked but screen broken. replacing the screen with my new (sim) unlocked MDA-Pro and see if the radio problem is still there. Just to exclude if the problem can be (sim) unlocking the phone...
But it is VERY anoying, I must agree...

arjan
Also,.. I've tried almoast every Radio rom!! still no success.. even te Original T-Mobile rom (ROm and radio) give me problems...
So can it be the Sim unlocking (V1 by Buzzdev)?

Hi,
I doubt it is the SIm unlock.
I used Buzz's too, originally many Rom flashes past that.
I have Exec with Radio 15 and customised Rom with Midgets as base and no issues at all.
I would advise finding out what the latest Radio Ver offered by Manufac for your model and try that one for a bit.
Perhaps we should start a poll as to what each user is using and record Radio and OS Rom info with a comments section for any issues noted. It would at least help stablise WM6 builds.

Beast
That damn radio issue!
I think it is time to stop discussing whether there is an issue and start looking for a fix!
First off: basically all HTC-phones have had a similar probblem, going back to the MDA 2. The key problem has been, that the data connection does not properly switch between mobile cells when you are on the move.
My device loses data connection every time I go into the parking garage, where there is no reception. Also, when I'm sitting in an area with very poor UMTS-coverage, the MDA-PRO loses connection after a few successful switches to GPRS. BTW: You can see you have a problem when Active Sync on the MDA says "Waiting for Network".
This wasn't such an issue as long as we didn't have the data connection constantly on. But, latest with the MS-Pushmail this has changed - the data connection is always on.
HTC and the operators have seemingly been working on this issue for quite some time. The only ROM on the MDA-PRO that was quite stable on this was actually the last T-Mobile WM-5 ROM.
With WM6 we are back to the issue. I no longer believe it is a problem with the Radio-ROM. Most likely is that there are differences in the driver dll. THis might explain why Midget's ROM seems to be better than IVAN's.
So, guys start troubleshooting!
Yes dreamtheater, are you running WM6? It is WM6 that seems to display these problems, regardless of the Radio. If I roll back to the official T-Mobile Rom (WM5) or Orange Rom (WM5) my problems disappear
HA!
Finally some usefull information. But very strange, buying a very expensive devise, but not being able to make a proper phonecall with it....

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I installed Radio 1.09 and so far sooooooooooo good!!!! None of the issues i mentioned, it works like a charm!!!
The only noticable issue i've found a couple times is, the gprs automatically disconnects once in a while, but i can ask it to reconnect and it does so without a fuss! Wowwwweeee!!!!
A BIGGG thanks to Arvind09 for this!!!!
So guys, i guess you got to try all radio roms and find which one works best for you, no other go as i see it
Cheers!

OH CRAP!!!!!!!!! I SPOKE TOOOOO SOON
Woke up early morning and the damn things crapped again :-/

If you tried different Radio Version and still does not work, it is time you change a service provider, provided you are sure that your hardware never had problems before.
Bangalore is a big city, coverage should be good, could it be the part of area you are in has bad coverage, try asking you friends about service provider other than your current one in that particular area.
If changing provider still does not work, make a complaint to the providers, it nothing improves, its time you need to move somewhere else.
I have the same issue when I keep the Radio Band in Auto mode (GSM/3G) I change my phone to GSM and it is better.
Ye, I did the same too. only switch manually to 3G when needed. I almost forgot about this point.
Furthermore, GSM mode makes the battery last more days than 3G mode.
encountered the same probs, 4 me radio 1.12 is the most stable one (I believe it's an exotic/not commonly used version)
I have been struggeling with this since the first WM6 Pre-release ROM came out on this forum. Tried all the radio ROMs available, without succes. As said, the only ROM that does not suffer from this, is the latest WM5 ROM.

Ok could you tell me which provider are subscribed to? I use Airtel and hutch on both my pocket pc(universal and orbit)Ive noticed that airtel tends to loose its signal whereas hutch has never given me a problem.for this reason i use hutch on the Uni,though i cannot say that im very happy with their service, they are any day much better tha Airtel and Idea both. Also try to change the rom and see if the problem still persists.
Hi Guys,
I am having a strangle problem with my VOX. The phone's radio is getting turned off every now and then.
The phone will show full network signal and the very next second the signal bar becomes empty followed by an automatic turn off and turn on of the phone's radio. Sometimes it keeps on restarting the phone's radio for 5 to 6 times. It is driving me crazy as most of the time when someone calls me, my phone is in the switch off mode and I never realize that unless I am staring at my phone. And it is happening at least once or twice an hour.
I upgraded my phone to the latest ROM version 1.34.405.1 but still getting the problem. Actually I feel the problem has become worst now after the upgrade.
Any thoughts on what could be causing it?
Thanks!
that doesn't sound familiar
did you try with the original radio version too?
What radio version do you have? There are updates on the ftp! ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Smartphone/Vox/Radios
The radio version I have is Radio 4.1.13.54_03.10.90.
I had the same issue (not so frequent) with my previous radio also. I guess it was 4.1.13.41. That came with the phone when I bought it.
But one thing I noticed; when I am in the office I am not encountering this issue (at least not for the last 8 hours) but when I am at home, this issue appears very frequently. Wondering whether there could be any network parameter trigerring this behavior.
maybe its the networks issue
you should try to compare the readings you get from the service menu at the office and at home, and give them a call
>>you should try to compare the readings you get from the service menu at the office and at home, and give them a call
What reading are you talking about? Also, how can I collect that?
Thanks again for all your thoughts.
he means that you should check the network strength at your workplace and your home.
Hi Guys;
Slightly OT, but hopefully someone can help.
I have recently upgraded the GF from a Nokia 6230i (about 2 years old) to a Orange E650 (Vox) running Dr Martin Gonzo's ROM, which is very nice... The E650 was a refurb that i bought from the Orange Store on ebay.
The issue is that reception at home is far worse than it was on the nokia - and is almost unusable at home... I did a check last night and the radio installed is a very old radio (doesn't appear on the FTP..)
Can anyone suggest what is the best Radio to use that will work with Dr Gonzo's ROM? (and is it a simple job to upgrade )
Cheers

HELP !
My issue seems to be network related. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I am encountering this issue only when I am at home and everywhere outside the phone is working nicely.
It is kind of making me think whether the network reception capability of the phone has gone down slightly and hence the no network issue when the network is slightly weak.
Hey
I am experiencing the following problem with my new Sensation (EU, unbranded, ROM 1.28.401.1, radio 10.42.9007):
From time to time it suddenly loses its signal and the only way to fix it is to disable and enable the radio (flight mode or testing-menu).
Any ideas how to fix/debug this?
I could get a new SIM card or flash the leaked RUU with the newer radio or get a new unit. How should I continue?

Search "Death Grip" and learn how to hold your phone to avoid this problem.
Stinks, but you can get around it.

I will definitely try this later, because I been having this problem for a while now, and it only happens when at home!!! and nowhere else!!!
I'll let you know guys!!! wish me luck guyz, cuz if this dosn't work .. ama take to them chines around the corner, and pray they bring back safe!!! ...
I also have this problem and nothing seems to resolve it.
Its certainly not the death grip issue as it happens when the device is sat on a table and not moved, can change from 3 bars to no signal and back again.
I however dont have to disable the radios though as it just comes back on its own.
I always have mine set to GSM only due to the intermittant 3G in my area so its alos not that either.
This never used to happen to either my magic, Desire or Desire S, or any other phone ive had recently for that matter, very, very annoying.
Upgrade your RUU.
1.35.401.1 has fixed this for me - no sleep problems, WiFi connects a HELL of a lot faster, and temproot still works
(I have (and have had) no touchscreen issues)
I have exactly the same problem as dndxn
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Same problem here.
t-mobile US.
Also, it has happend on 2G and 4G.
Hoping for a update soon.
So far flashing the newest leaked RUU fixed it for me. But flashing also included a full wipe, so doing one might also help.
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, .... it worked!!!!!!!!
I changed the Network setting to GSM only and now I have my network signal back ...!!!! full bars!!!
is there anyway to guide others having the same problem to this thread???
Thanks guys ....
Now I already know that there are dozens of rants about the Wi-Fi death grip problems here in the forum, but this one is going to be different.
I've read most of the Wi-Fi Death grip problems and have concluded that some phones doesn't have it (based on user experience, here and here)
Me thinking, one good reason that some might not have the Wi-Fi Death grip is because of the difference of the Stock-Shipped ROM flashed on our phones depending the country where we bought it, also included are the HBOOT and RADIO/Baseband versions.
Based on the two user experience above and checking their profile, both lived in different parts of the world, while me being on a different part as well.
I'm trying to confirm my theory, I've already PMed both users but still haven't received any reply.
It will be really greatful if those who hasn't flashed any custom roms to their phones, who doesn't experience the wi-fi death grip, to reply and maybe post here the:
Kernel version
Baseband version
Build Number
Stock-Shipped ROM on the phone (if possible)
don't get me wrong, as you can see on my signature, I've already have a custom ROM installed, but too bad Virtuous Unity haven't implemented the "software" Wi-Fi fix yet.
I have already PMed one of the devs of the Custom ROM and added it on their bug tracker about this.
So now I'm asking the community for their help about this.
Feedbacks will be greatly appreciated.
Best advice really is to flash another rom for a couple of days and see if you get issues, at least it'll tell you whether its a hardware or software issue with you device.
Grip lightly.
I have never had the problem!
i had the deathgrip even when i was in stock ROM
this was how my stock device was before rooting
SAGA PVT SHIP S_ON RL
HBOOT - 0.98.0000
RADIO -38.03.02.14_M
ROM-stock
kernal-2.6.35.10(stock)
country of purchase- India
but i noticed that the signal dropped only when i was far from my router (& the signal was weak)
so i used wifi analyzer to check the drop of signal when it was strong & i got a drop of around 20dbm which is a lot
i think those who say that they dont have this problem didnt test using any app like wifi analyzer & instead just saw if the wifi signal got cut (this only happens if you are not close to your router)
& if i remember correctly the software fix only lowers the value where the signal is cut & doesnt do anything to improve the attenuation (not sure about this)

AFAIK too that's what it is..
Again we need to have users who haven't flashed any custom roms (i hope that there's still some, now that AlphaRevX is out) yet or changed their radio images to confirm my theory.

I fixed my wifi deathgrip issue by using a silicon cover.
I have the wifi death grip with stock and LBC 0.5.3.
Still drops around 20dBm when the top is being covered by human flesh and skin.
The wifi fix just makes the phone not drop the signal at -90dBm right?
Still a hardware issue i think.
It's a combination of hardware and software issues actually. Hardware one is the antenna design that leads to signal decrease when covered by hand, and the software issue is the completely unnecessary wifi drop at -88dBm. The later one is fixable by changing the drop threshold.
Kernel version
2.6.35.10-g136602
Baseband version
20,28b,30,0805U_38.03.02.11_M
Build Number
1.28.401.1
I have wifi death issue too. But only when I cover top back of phone.
Purchased from Orange SK, Slovakia

no matter what its made of,when you put your hand on top of a receiver the signal attenuates, this is unavoidable
but the problem here is that it drops too much (around 20dbm)
so it could still be a software problem

The problem with design is that physical surface of antenna area is very small and easy to accidentally cover completely, that the reason of signal decrease being so high.
maybe we should just contact HTC? Since they should be the one who should fix for us or release a software update that could solve this problem...

When you say stock radio and changing radio, what exactly do you mean? Sorry, I'm a noob (most of the time).
When I bought the phone, I had the WIFI death grip. A few days ago, I flashed the Virtuous Unity ROM1.27.0. I saw this thread and tried the grip again just now, and it's still as apparent as when my phone had the original ROM installed.

We need to identify if it lies on the RADIO image/drivers or maybe on Kernel..

based on these (here, here, and here), there's a combination of KERNEL and RADIO for the Wi-Fi to work properly..
So another theory, there maybe is a proper combination of KERNEL and RADIO to avoid the Wi-Fi Death Grip?
also I've read a few on the kernel explanation, and as far as where I've read the last, KERNEL handles the communication of apps to and from hardware. So my theory above i guess makes sense..

nice find..i'm sure update will be soon on forum (calling Football )
Hi,
My One S seems to occasionally have a few connectivity issues with 3G, I am not sure they are related to the signal issues already discussed in other threads in this forum. I have an international handset, MAO black version (has two tiny chips too, but not worth complaining about), running stock firmware, haven't done the dev unlock yet.
1) Sometimes the phone shows 'No Service', but I still have a working data connection and can make calls. Sending/receiving SMS appears not to work for some reason though. Can work around by switching into and out of airplane mode. Until I do that any SMS I compose under these conditions just pends, after the workaround they do get sent after a few minutes.
2) Sometimes something seems to go wrong with the 3G data connection, all the internet apps suddenly say they have no connection, alogcat says that DNS lookup is repeatedly failing even though I have a strong signal and 3G/HSPA connection (also tried connecting to IP addresses directly, doesn't work either). Tried getting online via Wi-Fi and it works, but all the Internet connectivity fails if I turn Wi-Fi off. If I reboot the phone it is able to get online again.
I brought this problem up in a live chat with HTC customer support and they have advised me to arrange for them to collect the phone for repair, the shop from whom I bought the phone advised the same. Just thought I would share it here and find out if it is common, or it is likely, as HTC think, there's something wrong with my phone's antennae. (My thought is that both could also be software problems)
Anyone else experience problems like this?
I get the no service thing all the time, I pull it out of my pocket and press the power button, it says no service. I am going to call t-mobile in the next few days, I am trying to collect more data. It does it on my same spot on the couch where I used to get good coverage on my old phone. It does it on the same desk at work that I used to get good reception at. It kinda sucks.

Yup, I get that and trying to get more data before sending it back to HTC. I'm not really certain but it's as if there is something wrong antennae? Seems to be quite a few with similar mobile network issues though.
I still have my old Motorola and with sim out of One S in the reception is good where the One S struggles to get a signal - if at all
I have the same issue as Kenyw:
No connection for a while although within covered area.
Strong connection bars but no internet
Usually I switch to airplane mode and back then it works...until the next time!
Very frustrating! I don't think changing the phone would solve the problem!
I have the same exact issue as the OP. Another example would be the streaming of music using Pandora and Slacker. I can listen to 1 song and skip 2 or 3 songs at best before I start having issues where it just keeps loading and I am in 4G range and 3G which shouldn't be a problem still.
Same issue here.

I did exchange my One S for another and it is just the same
It's a bit of a queer issue. I know where I live I have a good Three UK signal as per experience with the Motorola phone. I can be anywhere between 2 bars (approx 104dBm) and no signal in the house and around the yard. Yet I can walk 20 yards towards mast approx 1 mile away and as soon as I get LOS (no buildings, trees) on the mast I get full signal???
I buy my One-S a week ago in Germany and facing the same issue in Israel with Orange 3.5G network. I really don't know what to do now.

Alon,
As mentioned in many different threads opened here in XDA, the issue is related to the phone and its current software version and not to the operator/SIM/area in the world.
Stay tuned and hopefully shortly HTC will provide OTA update or root your device and install one of the custom ROMs based on the new RUU 1.70 which might be solving this issue.
Oren
Thanks,
I will keep waching the threads around waiting for solution.
I tried TrickDroid v1.0 base 1.70 but still same problem

Thanks for that Info.
You saved me the thoughts about rooting...
I'm still trying to wait for a decent s-off not related to HTC...

Noticed decreased benchmark performance on quadrant but improved battery life and system UI seems to be more fluid.

ok but more fluidity shouldn't affect cpu and I/O results!! HTC isn't doing a great job here...
