Suddenly I have a problem with activeSync. I cannot connect my phone to activesync of my desktop pc (vista-usb) or my laptop (winXP-bluetooth). My desktop pc show the message shown in attached image. At the same time ActiveSync in my mobile device show the message 'Waiting for network'.
I tried several things like closing the firewall, changing 'USB to PC' setting and restarting all machines.
It worked perfect before. Today I was playing with Visual Studio 2008 and remote debugging which worked in the beginning. I also installed MyMobile application (shows mobile device's screen on desktop).
Do you have any ideas?
edited: here is some additional problems! I cannot install any application (by launching a cab file directly in the device)! I get 'Installation of <appname> was unsuccessful'. Also the list of installed programs in settings>system>remove programs is empty!
I've had similiar problems in the past. I've been able to get back online by removing ActiveSync completely and then re-install.
I'd love to find easier solutions if anyone has suggestions.
You mean on host PC?
But the problem seems to be on device. I cannot make it connect to any of my two PCs. And it has other problems also.
And one of the two PCs is Vista. How can I re-install Mobile Device Center (activeSync equivalent)?

I am using Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM 2.02.02 WWE. Hard reset fresh install. Current running programs - Wisbar Advance. Thats all.
The latest and most irritating problem I am having with Vista and Activesync on Universal is that it wont connect via USB . It connects and suddenly disconnects. Today i took some pics with the phone and wanted to transfer them to laptop on the train where there is no internet and GPRS wont work under cave. Device just wouldnt connect to laptop running vista ultimate.
Then i tried to connect Activesync bluetooth to transfer the pics wouldnt work either. All bluetooth or beam connections wouldnt work. I dont know if this issue is only occuring with me but i find it very irritating. Some troubleshoot tips would be really helpful.
Ultimately i had to transfer the pics via GPRS email.
I wonder when will Windows Mobile support Vista. Almost all my electronics are synced with vista very well like xbox360.
ActiveSync under Vista? Don't you mean Windows Mobile Device Centre --> http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
I'm having all my phones hooked up (see sig.) without any problems under Vista, Guess your vista install is corrupted then.

ActiveSync under Vista? Don't you mean Windows Mobile Device Centre - YES I mean Windows mobile device centre.
You are lucky to not be having any problems. My vista install is not corrupt . My other phone works well with Vista's Mobile Centre. My HTC Advantage X7500 that is. ... Oh well looks like Universal sux.
To be more precise. The Activesync 4.5 on windows xp is experiencing the same problems as Vista's Mobile center. >.< as i tried on my other desktop
If the only program you have installed is Wisbar Advance, why don't you hard-reset your phone? That usually solves all connection problems.

Done. No change. Using same ROM. Connection keeps dropping. Does the connection drop after some idle time? Unable to sync via Bluetooth either.
Chris
yes, i have the same problem like you. Crossbow 2.2.0 and vista business with wdcm don't synchronize. It try and return me a error.
But it is strange because it install nero mobile on my device, but he don't synchronize !
I need a solution too.
Here no problems at all. Vista Ultimate and JW ROM 2.02.02 WWE. Sync works perfectly well. I use USB connection. I think, the problem may by with cable or USB hub, if any. Also make sure that you've got the uodated version of WMDC. Main is 6.0.3783. I also install soft from my Vista, browse my uni, copy files and abslolutly no problems.

Well, I still have WinXP on my other disk, so I could upload ROM to my uni from XP. The bootloader is 1.01. I had to use bootloader to install JW ROM. However I mainly use Vista now. I am syncing my uni usualy once a day. I am taking pictures and video so I have to transfer it to my PC. The syncing proces is done using USB under Vista and no problems at all. I never bothered with USB drivers for my Uni. Simply Vista system upgrade doeas everything form me.
Hello! It seems I have the first question with my XDA Exec…
It connects to the PC without problem and I can see it on Windows Explorer (Windows Vista). But synchronization (through Windows Mobile Center)… only completes on the first connection.
If I disconnect from the PC and connect again, most of the times the “Sync” begins but never ends. In these cases, the only solution has been to erase definitions (both on the PC as on the PDA); if so… the next time I connect it does not have the problem, but of course I have to define again what I want to synchronize.
Forgive me if there is already some forum on this issue, I looked for before placing but I did not find.
Some solution? Many thanks and regards from Portugal.
am also having the same problem .. any aid please ?
Same problem here too - device connects, charges, shows in explorer but when WMDC tries to connect the device continues to charge but drops out of explorer.
If I find a solution I'll report back here, meanwhile can anybody save me the heartache?

Vista Sync Problem
Which version of WMDC are you using?
I am using 6.1.6965 and having no problems. Alternatively, go to the network icon in your task bar after connecting your PPC thru USB and repair connection. This should resolve the problem
I had a similar problem, I reverted to 6.0.6783. Although come to think of it I think this was particular to an app I use, that refused to sync using the later version of WMDC.
Might be worth a try though.
Has anyone applied SP1 yet? What version of WMDC do you end up with?
I seem to remember unticking (and maybe reticking) the "Enable advanced network functionality" on the "USB to PC" applet on "System" tab of Settings.
Can't remember if that's what fixed it.
hey guys, the main problem if ur using an antivirus/internet security or firewall it will be blocked!!
u need to configure ur antivirus/internet security or firewall to allow and solve the sync problems

This fixed it for me too, which is interesting given that the general advice is to *enable* it if there are problems syncing. This is definitely what fixed it for me - the device now always syncs on my recently reforatted XP machine whereas previously it was intermittent (which is odd because I'd never experienced problems before, but hey, it's fixed so I don't care any more)

Managed to solve the Problem
Hey there guys,
I seemed to be having the same problem anj just solved it...
1 Remove the Enable advanced network functionalty check from the USB to PC connection settings "Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC".
2 Make sure that the Mobile Device is connected via USB to the PC.
3 Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (either 32bit or 64bit, I installed 64bit)
4 Open Control Panel on the PC and run Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
5 At the bottom of the application you will see Mobile Device Settings, and within that you will see Connection Settings. Open the Connection Settings
6 Make sure that the second check box named Allow connections to one of the following is checked, and that the Drop Down below is changed to COM 1 (or which ever COM Port your Mobile Device is connected to via your USB cable) and save the changes
7 Disconnect the Mobile Device and Reconnect and hopefully it will work for you.
I realise that this solution might not work for some, but it did work for me, and hopefully it will work for others.

I understand that you do not own an HTC Universal (Universal not means all HTC devices!, it´s a model. One of the best by the way)

I already done all the instruction, disable the firewall and antivirus, i also go to device manager too to update the driver/device, but still couldn't connect. Anyone can help me please.

How did you resolved the issue???? I have an Iolite which does not synch (connects only as a guest), keep getting the message "there is a problem with your connection........"
any help will be appreciated
Even this is a legacy thread there are some people out there (including me) still using Windows Mobile devices (but also using WP7 ...).
Had exactly the same problem and in my case just using another USB cable did it! It seems that WM devices are a bit "fragile" when using a not 100% perfect USB cable
I recently flashed my ROM from WM5 to WM 6. Thank you XDA. The problem I am having is now my Vista Computer won't connect with my MDA. Before the Flash it snyc fine. I uninstalled WMDC and reinstalled it and nothing. WMDC is aweful, Active Sync is great. Help maybe it is some kind of trick to get Vista to recognize it again with the new flashed WM6.
make sure you are using Active Sync. ver 4.5.....?
with some roms you have to uncheck the box "USB-PC" Found in settings/system/or sometimes found in connections,"USB-PC" and uncheck Enable advanced Network functionality. Then try and Sync
I can't use Active Sync with Win Vista. Any other suggestions..?
Then restore Vista to when it was working.
I'm also having trouble with Vista Ultimate (x64 and x32) and my Wizard (Octavoi's ROM)
It sees my device for a few seconds and then it closes.. The WMDC doesn't see my device at all...
The Event Viewer shows the following:
Windows Mobile-based USB device is plugged in but is unable to make a network connection to the desktop.

I've tried to uncheck the 'Advanced Network Functionality', but that also doesn't seem to work.....
Firewall could be the culprit.
Check your settings in your firewall. If you have Windows OneCare that would also interupt your connection with WMDC. But with any firewall program make sure that it allows or is in the trusted mode for any Windows Mobile Device.
I have Windows Live One Care but I don't think that's the problem.
I turned it off and tried to connect... without succes
But I'll give it a try again this afternoon.
i'm the other way, i went from vista to xp at work because of stupid autocad 2008 problems (don't get me started) and i prefer wmdc over activesync.. i have ver 4.5 and i have issues like it sometimes will randomly disconnect or won't complete a sync. other times i have no issue though. I never had a problem on vista with wmdc.
when i first hooked up my pda in vista it would load the driver in vista but, wouldn't connect, turned out it was loading an older driver and i manually updated to the newest one and just like that it was connecting, later i downgraded the driver to be able to update the rom and it was still working.

Where did you get the newer drivers from?
Try this :
Go to device manager in Vista
While connecting your wizard the device manager should refresh and add a 'MS Windows Mobile Remote Adapter'
Now right-click that adapter and choose 'uninstall'.
Vista will add the device again and soon after WMDC should connect.
At least it worked for me...

Ok, I've flashed my phone and now it seems to work with Octaivoi 6.3!!
I can't for the life of me get my touch dual to connect to the Windows Mobile Device Center on my vista machine. I've tried everything -
1. uninstalling and reinstalling USB drivers
2. uninstalling and reinstalling WMDC
3. hard resetting my device
NOTHING works!
When I connect, all I get is "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it ...."
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've called Dell, HTC, Msft. No one knows. I am totally frustrated b/c I can't flash my device with a new ROM or even just move files to my device.
HELP!
Did you install SP1 on your vista machine ?
My phone was syncning perfectly up until i intalled SP1 2 days ago.
I also tired the 3 things you did. Fortunately after the hard reset i discovered that the phone WILL syn using the BT connection, just not via usb
try this. Open task manager on your PC (ctrl+alt+del) and kill wmplayer.exe (windows media player process) reconnect your device. See if this helps.

@rostol - no, i'm don't have SP1. it just says Windows Vista Home Premium.
I'll try to connect via bluetooth to see what happens. if you guys have any other ideas, I'm totally open.
Update: I can connect via bluetooth now, but still not USB. Grrrrr ....
I had a similar problem. I have ESET Smart Security and Vista SP1 installed and found that, with ESET's firewall actively filtering, I am unable to sync. I set ESET to not filter while the phone is plugged up and all is well.

1. Keep the WM device connected.
2. Go to Start > Start Search.
3. Enter Device Manager or devmgmt.msc to launch the Device Manager window.
4. Look under the Network adapters node for Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter. If this is not present, skip to step 5. Otherwise, right-click Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter and choose to Uninstall.
5. Look under the Mobile Devices node for Microsoft USB Sync. If this is not present, skip to step 6. Otherwise, right-click Microsoft USB Sync and choose to Uninstall.
6. Disconnect and reconnect the WM device. The device driver for the PPC Phone will re-install and Windows Mobile Device Center will launch.
Did you try this?
Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"

I've tried everything on Win 7 machine, and it won't work. Phone is HTC TyTn Hermes 200. Don't know, what to do anymore...
Hi All,
I'm running Windows 7
1. Suddenly my Windows Mobile Device Center Failed to recognize my phone and connect to sync. After some troubleshooting I realized the "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter Driver" Failed to work correctly Saying "This device cannot Start (Code 10).
I uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager and attempted to Search for the Driver again after a Restart, my phone was again found while attempting to Sync but once again during Driver installation it failed and gave the Exclamation Mark stating an issue and sure enough it is the Code 10 error again.
2. This exact same issue happens when attempting to Tether to use the Phone as an Internet Modem. The Network Adapter driver to Tether is "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" and it also doesn't install fine anymore. So no Tethering for me via USB.
Now, all the above happened suddenly while using the Internet Tethering with no issues. It simply disconnected and then that was the end of that.
Let me tell you to what Extent I went to try to get this to work. I re-formated my hard drive and re-installed Windows 7. And NOPE it didn't work. Windows Mobile Device Center is properly installed and that is when all the drivers are provided, during the WMDC installation. Once WMDC was installed, my phone was found, the Activsync feature and the Internet Modem feature, and the driver installation attempt happened, The correct drivers were found, but they just weren't Installed successfully as explained above. I'm currently browsing the internet using the Bluetooth PAN Internet Sharing, which works wonderfully with no issues.
But I really need to get the above two items working again, otherwise I can no longer connect my phone via activesync or better said WMDC for Windows 7 to Flash a New ROM.
Now so that nobody thinks it's a problem with my phone, I have three other computers where I can connect via WMDC and Tether via USB with no issues. But I'm having trouble with my Dell Inspiron 9300 which gave me no issues for Months until now.
I considered myself very computer savvy but at this point I'm really stuck!
Any help?
Thanks in advance,
Raudel

The Windows Mobile Device Center that gets Installed is the one with Windows Update. So it must be the correct one with the Win 7 Drivers.

I'm also getting this problem. It just began after a hardware upgrade. Microsoft remote adaptor cannot start. I have tried re-installing device centre numerous times and i cannot get device center to recognise my phone.
It works fine in disk drive mode however.
Edited to add that my device is recognised fine on other machines. So it is an issue with my PC. Interestingly my wireless usb adaptor won't work either.
I had a similar problem, found a solution online. There were some issues with Intel P55 chipset, it sync up immediately after BIOS update and reboot.
Hope this makes your day, best of luck.
