Ok ok, before I get heat for not searching the forums, I have tried. I've tried and tried again. No luck. The last thing I want to do is transfer each of my contacts one by one using Bluetooth, so I was hoping someone can help me out.
I tried PIM Backup, but that froze my phone and I had to do a hard reset, and well, we all know how annoying hard resets are... So I was hoping if anyone else had any other ideas non-Outlook related. I'd usually have problem retyping in phone numbers, however I have all sorts of info linked to my contacts... photos, birthdays, multiple phone numbers, etc.
If anyone can PLEASE help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thx!
EDIT: In case it helps matters, I have a Cingular 8125, and a Samsung Blackjack. Both still at factory settings.
Did you try SKTools ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317789 )?
outlook would do it in like a minute....
Why are you avoiding using outlook?

Because I currently don't have any way to connect my Smartphone to my PC.
As for SKTools, I didn't know it was compatible with smartphones. I'll look into that when I get home, thx.

I am having a problem with ActiveSync on my phone an Orange M700 running the HTC P3600 ROM. It was working with no problems until a few weeks ago when it stopped syncing. I have tested the laptop with another PPC and ActiveSync notices it straight away.
I have installed ActiveSync 4.5 to no avail so I returned to 4.2 and still nothing. I deleted all partnerships in both the phone and the laptop and when I plugged it back in the Windows saw the device as there was a pop up bubble in the bottom right corner but ActiveSync never kicked in.
I have had a look at the ActiveSync settings in the M700 but everything looks fine to me.
I have also been having problems with my 3G connection not connecting and doing the regular syncs it normally does e.g. my personal mail every 5 mins, my yahoo mail every hour and the weather every 2 hours. The only thing that has changed in this time is that I installed Fring, I can't imagine its related but I uninstalled Fring just in case but still no luck.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix it as I have some new appointments (I'm not sure which ones) in my PDA which I want to get synced before messing around with hard resets etc.
Thanks
Did you delete any notifications of any kind, usually replog files? If YES, then you just deleted your notification to activate Active Sync on your computer. You can solve that easily by returning the file. READ this for the solution: http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/blog/index.php?entry=entry051203-201515

I don't think I did that but I tried the file anyway, still no joy. I think my phone is also vibrating when I plug it into the PC now, very strange.

Have you ever used Check Notifications? It is a free software to clear away JUNK notifications.
Link: http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/cn_overview.html
Sometimes, our PPC just creates duplicates of certain Notifications that can cause conflicts with some softwares. Maybe this is what is happening in your device. You can try and download Check Notifications, even though it says it is only compatible with WM 2003, I use it for my HTC Universal (WM5). Just go to Check Notifications settings and tick the 3 choices, run it and CLEAR those pesky bugs.

Right I ticked the three boxes and cleared the issues but still nothing
Normally I'd just hard reset but I am worried about losing appointments I've forgotten I have made since my last sync.

I don't know what else to suggest.
If you do decide to HARD RESET, take a look at this FREE BABKUP program for contacts and calendar events: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=backup
I hate doing hard resets myself, that is why I have SPB Backup configured to do automatic backups everyday at 5AM.
Good Luck...

Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure how I am going to progress this. My major issue is that we use GroupWise at work with a third party app to allow the PocketPCs to sync with it. When you set it up it blanks the device before you can do anything, if I wait and import everything after this it usually can't cope with the levels of changes and kills the system on the server.
Oh joy, why wasn't someone looking at the "bigger picture" when we choose an e-mail system.....
Hi...to some of the more experienced hands out there. I have a problem with Microsoft Active sync 4.5.
I introduced new categories for my contacts in Outlook 2007. these copied fine, but what happens is...i get an error message saying synchronization cannot be completed. at this time, when i sync using the active sync application on my vox, it works and synchronises fine....all this after i disabled advanced network functionality.
the above process takes nearly 10mins! that too, after i manually press the sync button on my mobile! is there any way to solve this problem?
also, i wish to know if there is anyway one can add more fields to the phones contact book. i added and entered data in new fields in outlook 2007, but this wasnt transmitted to my mobile.......we have useless entries like pager, radio ( what the hell is that!! ) and so on, but not a single place where one can enter an extra mobile no. for instance!!!
can any one help? tried a lot of fora, but no one seems to have any proper solution for this one!
a new challenge for xda developers forum! thanx in advance, its maddening doing this sync manually every bloody time!
Try deleting the device from activesync while device is disconnected and then adding it again by reconnecting.
Tried but no result!
thank u but i tried all the obvious solutions.....else i wouldnt have started this post. all this works only with advanced network functionality off, mind u, and it takes ages!

Get rid of ActiveSync ASAP else you will regret
getting rid of active sync is fine, but the alternate solution? how else do i sync all my info? do u have any good programs for that? can u upload here
Hi all-
I am having some trouble with active sync and outlook. I have a standard rom fuze syncing to outlook 2000 on a windows xp computer. The other day after a sync I noticed my contacts in outlook were all deleted, yet they are still on the phone. I noticed in active sync on the computer that it is only syncing the calendar, favorites and files, not contacts. When I look in the active sync program on the phone I see that the contacts option is now grayed out and is not available to select. I am not worried about loosing my database, I use pim backup, I just want to get my contacts back onto my computer. I have been using windows phones for several years and have never come across this problem before..
I deleted the partnership both on the phone and on the computer, and then re established the syncing partnership. At first if appeared it would sync the contacts, but when the syncing process was done, I was back to where I started with the contacts grayed out again.
I did come across these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428257
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264609
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=246075
and none of them provided any help to my situation.
One person did suggest installing some office xp updates which did not help, someone suggested to hard reset the phone but before I do that I wanted to ask if anyone knows of anything else I can try, and how I can prevent this from happening again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jon
http://myphone.microsoft.com/ its free, use it next time.
Handy thing that
thanks Jack of Clubs for the helpful link. I will definately check that out...
But for now, I need to get those contacts back into outlook. I use outlook to sync from my windows phone to a few nokia phones.
Anyone have any ideas I can try before a hard reset?
You didn't setup any type of exchange for your contacts for another server did you? Since my move to Vista/7 and the updated WMDC I haven't had that problem. Good luck...let us know how its sovled.
no, i don't have any type of exchange setup. just basic syncing to activesync through usb cable. quite baffling to me..
Deleted Out look contacts
This happened to me, luckily i found all my contacts in the deleted folder of Outlook and simply restored them, it has to do with the direction of syncing, i.e. pc to device or device to pc, on will over write the other......
yes, I did copy the deleted items back into the contact database.
I am trying to figure out how to re establish the syncing relationship between the phone and outlook..

thats really hard to do. i couldnt figure it out the one time i ended the partnership then tried to re-establish it.
I have been doing a lot of digging around, but I cannot seem to find anyone with the same problem I am having.
I got my Samsung Captivate a few days back and against my better judgement let the AT&T guy move all my info over from my old iPhone 3g. Everything worked until I tried to open the Contact app which fails and has to be force closed everytime. I have a feeling it does not like th way something is formatted or is corrupt.
Here is the error it gives:
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again...."
I also have a log if anyone is interested. Save re-flashing and wiping the phone is there an easier way to just wipe the contacts db, or is it possible to delete the contacts program (and is it safe to do this) and sideload it back in?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.
I actually have the same thing. AT&T guy switched ym contacts and now it doesnt work. Havent found a solution either

That's because the cellbrite machine that we use to transfer contacts is not yet setup to work on the captivate. You will have to do a master data reset, then transfer via sim card, or over gmail. This should be fixed by the end of August.
Yeah, I would never let the AT&T guys transfer anything. Anyway - how did they do it? Via cable?
How were your contacts backed up previously? What was the iPhone syncing too? The easiest thing is to reset the phone, then sync it with whatever the iPhone was syncing with. Since Android is meant to sync with gmail, import your contacts into gmail, and sync. Or sync with Exchange.
There are many options, but please reply with some more info.

I am just going to do the master reset and move from there. I'll post here once I get it fixed or if I am having any problems. The iphone was synced so I will just pull from that and convert everything over manually.
Thank you everyone with the quick responses.
I wouldn't let them do anything either. When I picked up my phone on launch day I was the reps first captivate sale. I had to show him how to open the battery cover. Don't you think they would have some sort oftutorial before they launch new devices

Well, we had the phone over a week before it launched, and the rep should've had a training on the device too, but you can't control everyone from a corporate standpoint. Just as with any industry, you find some people who don't know what they're doing.

LOL I had to show my Rep how to open the battery cover too. Then she was like have you use this phone before. I didn't know what to say after that.

Same here, "No, slide the bottom part!"
I know that there has to be a way to retrieve deleted files and really need help. I unfortunately never used ActiveSync to backup files as it never 'recognized' my phone when I would USB it to this old [XP] computer. Finally last week I went thru Activesync program on phone and it kept trying to sync by going online which was eating my money as I never heard it connecting and it would just stay online. I found great this site last week and tried some the fixes that I read to stop ActiveSync, but still no go. So I went back into the phones ActiveSync and unchecked the contacts/calendar/tasks/e-mail boxes that it was trying to sync to thinking maybe that will stop it. HUGE MISTAKE! It deleted ALL of my contacts/calendar appointments, ect. I've searched this forum and haven't found anything to help.
These smartphones are just computers right? So isn't there a way to retrieve those deleted files?
I really would appreciate any help as the contacts list is a devastating lose.
I don't know if this helps but when the phone starts, the reading are:
R 1.58.21.23
G 25.65.30.04H
D 1.26.00.00
