HTC Home Weather Updating with O2 PAYG GPRS? - General Topics

I would like to know if any one as got HTC Weather updating with O2 PAYG GPRS?
I have tried using the various threads on this forum, have managed to get 3 tabs on by using HTC Home Plugin Customizer v0.8b but not updating weather. It works OK with WiFi and ActivSync.
If you have managed it would please let me know and I'll keep on looking.
Tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187&highlight=n2a+weather
but not sure which dll to install, although it is already set up according to instructions.

same im having trouble too
not just htc weather but spb weather also.
stupid o2. its not like theyre satisfied with overcharging for their payandgo gprs.

don't blame 02, blame apple. they insisted on the block for prepaid sims as an added security measure with the launch of iphone. search around google, theres a big discussion on it and how to tap into the prepay gprs settings on the network.

O2 UK MMS Settings?

When I got my Xda2, I accidently deleted some settings which mucked up my ability to send/receive MMS messages via O2 UK.
Can someone guide me through the process of getting it working from scratch?
Anyone?
Ok I'll bite!
Take a look at the GPRS/WAP/MMS Settings Repository over at Modaco

This may help??
I use a combination of this web site for the settings:
http://www.filesaveas.com/index.html
and the document below to the steps.
Have fun!
Ian
I'm assuming you're on O2....with your active UI running, click on "my xda" (today screen) then connections. You should then see a screen asking what country you're in...select UK (yes, in know it's obvious!) then postpaid then GPRS......it'll do everything itself....easy!
While you are at it, try choosing prepaid with gprs, mine will not allow that combination.
the reason the prepaid combination doesn't work is because in the uk prepay doesn't support all the data features needed to get email/internet etc

HTC Home 1.5 Weather Update via T mobile proxy server?

Hello all,
Recent owner, second-time poster!
I am having two connection specific issues that I am hoping to get a clear answer on.
First I cannot make HTC Home 1.5 (Emu's build) connect to the weather server with the T mobile 216.155.165.50:8080 proxy port open. Is there a workaround available for this? Interestingly, it works just fine to update over active sync!
The related question, an active sync one, is that pIE will not connect to the web when I am sync'ed up, even though its apparent that HTC Home Weather can! PIE works fine over GPRS (T-Mobile $6 plan) or WiFi.
I have already trolled around in the registry looking for a weather-related IP or proxy setting. There are obvious settings for location, but not for anything connection related.
I am running Jaguar 4.0b with HTC Home 1.5 and Home customizer Beta5. I purchased and installed the whole SK Toolkit (great program, worth the money). I also have more player and Voice Dialer.
This is my first ever smart phone, and I am trying to learn quickly. Thanks, all!
I'm having a similar problem with HTC Home weather and my t-mobile GPRS connection. I'm running XDA Mobile 6 R5 though. Everything works fine over WiFi but not with GPRS. Internet Explorer works over GPRS but drags its knuckles when connecting, it takes a few minutes once the connection is initiated. I've tried both settings for T-mobile data and neither works real well.
Shane
I have a familiar issue with Orange. All works fine except the weather update using Orange World GPRS.
Where can I change the connection that HTC Home uses to get the weather info???
I just got the T-Zones plan for $5.99/month and put in the proxy settings with the 8080 port for connections, Internet explorer works fine (but slow obviously), but no other program that uses the internet seems to work.. maybe its the settings? maybe the program has to use the proxy as well? any thoughts?
I believe the weather program may be timing out too fast. Dunno weather it's a registry entry or what that changes the settings for it. Or if it's even changable. Everything else works great over GPRS just not HTC Home Weather. Although it works fine over WiFi.
Shane
anyone ever have any luck with the weather downloading over proxy?
i have never been able to have the weather update from the tmobile proxy, I think it has something to do with some blocked port or something of the sort. I have looked for months for a workaround, only solution is to upgrade from the 5.99 plan to the full internet plan and it will work, but that wont happen everything connects fine except htc weather and some other application i had on my wizaed cant remember right now.
if you guys did some homework and did a search of the forums for specifically: htc home proxy, you would find the htc home proxy patch which lets you do exactly what your asking
thanks i found it and it works

How did you fix it? Please let me know.
Thanks

the fix is easy. remove that old proxy and change your wap to epc.tmobile.com.

Touch Pro + Exchange + 3G + T-mob = No Go

Hello everyone,
Got my Touch Pro yesterday, first impressions were good but I just realised that there is no way to get my exchange to sync through 3G (or even GPRS).
I'm with 1and1, my parameters are fine (they work on my Vario III with the same SIM card). I'm with T-mobile (I know the 3G reception is not good on the TP, I had to switch to 2G to avoid getting cut off during a call, but I get 4 bars from my desk in a loft, so that shouldn't be a problem!).
I tried the default t-mobile parameters setup by the touch, and I tried to configure the connection manually with the parameters that work well with my Vario III:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
User name: user or nothing (instead of T-mobile)
Password: pass or nothing
Still a no go. I get the same error message:
Activesync cannot reach the server. Check that the server address and proxy server settings are correct.
Support code: 0x80072F78
I've called 1and1 and they say they support WinMo6.1.
Anyone with T-mobile able to sync an exchange account on 3G/GPRS?
Would you mind sharing parameters?
I could live with the Touch Pro with 2G until they release a better rom/radio, but I can't live without push email/exchange!
By the way, there is no problem with the server itself or the exchange parameters, it synchronizes fine on wifi, so it looks like it's a touch pro (works on Vario III), winmo6.1 (works on Winmo 6.0) or t-mobile (works on wifi) issue!
Thanks for your help!
PS: before you ask, I did a hard reset to make sure there is no problem with third party software, this is after a hard reset...

Use the settings the connection manager applies automatically....untick the proxy server and you should be good to go, i also am on tmobile UK, same settings and use an exchange server. The proxy has been messing which alot of stuff recently, im sure theyve changed something on it since this happened on my Hermes aswell.
Perhaps flash the newer radio onto your Raph....update to HardSPL first then flash Radio 1.02.25.31 to your device from the wiki pages. Read everything to the letter and ul be fine.

Thank you, that was quick and efficient! Unticking the proxy did the trick (even with the manual parameters).

Not yet, trying to get the basics to work first. Used to do this with my Vario III (BT PAN) and was very happy with it. I'm hoping it will be faster with the TP.
Forgive me if I'm being think, but the radio you mentionned is listed as coming form Cingular in the wiki. Will it work with UK T-mob, and will it improve the 3G reception issue?

Ive had some improvment with the reception yes, calls dont seem to drop as much, it works fine with tmobile.
it is possible.
Hi, I got a pro, use it on the dutch tmob netwerk, both G and H work fine with the (free) mail2web exchange service.
t-mobile uses standard proxy to bring webpages faster .. unfortionatly it doesnt map all other ports so youtube and such wont work either.. it keeps trying to connect when one plays a video. since it is not neccesary to have a proxyserver it is best practice to turn it off.

Hi MrVanx!
I've tried to setup my BT Pan as usual with my Vaio TZ11, and although the pairing and setup goes fine, when I try to connect I get a "connection is denied" error. Does the BT PAN work out of the box on the TP or do you need a tweak like on the Kaiser?
Sorry I'm afraid this was a "RTFM" case...
As the internet sharing option has disappeared from the comm manager, I assumed the connection was automatic...
Of course you need to launch internet sharing and select BT PAN...
It works great, I get 400-500kbps down and 300-400kbps down, 130-140ms ping. Far from my home broadband, but still good enough.
I tried with my Vario III, I get about the same results (with 3 bars on HSDPA on Kaiser, 4 on TP).
So two questions now:
1) Do you get better performance with T-Mobile UK on the Touch Pro (I'm in Salisbury)
2) Any way to bring Internet Sharing back to comm manager?
This worked for me
Man I wasted 30mins - had already read this post before I ordered and forgotten. XDA dev is the best!

htc raphael - tmobile austria - gprs setting

hi all
maybe you saw my unsolved thread on getting my htc touch pro working with BB connect with tmobile austria.
after looking on my htc kaiser (which works with bb connect) i saw that on the gprs setting there is a username "t-mobile" and a password "***********".
my htc touch pro does not have these settings and my guess is that i need that username and password on it to get it work like the kaiser...
has anybody a clue on that t-mobile user password ... I am just missing the password but cannot find it anywhere ... it was a preset on my kaiser
thanks
cedric
T-mobile USA has a department for unsupported phones. When I got my TP, I called Customer Service, and they pushed an execute file that set my GPRS, MMS, and SMS settings all at once.
Call Customer Service, and ask for the same (611 here in the States).
Good luck
I was t-mobile austria customer quite some time ago and they had a quite decent "business support" hotline. Where they could even answer specific questions like yours instantly (or push them to your phone as mentioned above). You should try that.
If that doesn't work, maybe you should have a look at this forum: http://umtslink.at/. It's specific about austria's mobile network providers and therefore maybe better for your specific question.

WP7 on Giffgaff

Hi everyone, I have a HD2 running Windows Phone 7 but I am having problems and I want to check with anyone on Giffgaff if they have the same problems.
I have my phone setup correctly and all the bars have been lifted by Giffgaff, my email works, I can watch Youtube fine and I can surf without fine and I can remote desktop to servers at work.
But the problem I have is I cant use XBox live and I cant download anything from the marketplace (I can browse the marketplace fine) I just get the dots across the top of the screen then after a minute or two it says there is a problem and to try later.
If I connect via WiFi then everything is fine and if I pop in my old Orange sim card and configure accordingly that works also. So I know there is nothing wrong my my Live account or my phone its something to do with Giffgaff.
So does anyone here have a WP7 phone on Giffgaff? does everything work for you?? I have tried on the Giffgaff forums but no luck. You guys are my last hope.
Thanks in advance.
Hi mate,
I have an Omnia 7 with a GiffGaff SIM in the phone and its running fine. Not sure why it wouldn't work on your considering you've got browsing and youtube working.
Anything you need me to check, give us a shout.
Cheers
Jas
Thanks Jazzyuk, did yours work straight off? did you have to configure Giffgaff manually and did you have to get anything changed on your account?
I ask because at first I could not access the marketplace at all and when Giffgaff lifted the adult bar I can browse the marketplace but not purchase anything. XBox live has never worked for me.
Thanks again.
Hi mate,
I didn't have to do anything related to my account. I got the giffgaff sim on Wednesday, put it in my phone, setup the APN details on the phone and it worked from there. Didn't have to do anything else.
Sorry not much help other than that...
Jas
Ok thanks for your help
you have to activate your phone
wp7 licence is bounded to the device. hd2 wp7 emulates hd7. you have to call microsoft to get it activated. live services needs this activation. it does not have anything to do with your sim.
its a port and basically you are using illegal copy of wp7. you need to call microsoft to activate the phone. how to do this? use the search button or just browse the hd2 wp7 forum.
p/s: in my country, calling to activate will not work anymore because they are asking you to bring your phone over - so no dice there.
I have activated with Microsoft (twice I did not keep the code first time) and as mentioned via WiFi or Orange everything is fine and tried with different roms which is why I was looking at my operator as I have eliminated practically everything else.
But thanks anyway
Just in case anyone else is following this thread, I flashed one of the new NoDo HD2 roms and everything works
Thanks for everyone who helped.

Exactly the same issue with HTC Titan.
Mine is Windows 7.5 7740/7720 the recent update that we had yesterday.
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:55 PM ----------
Here I found the solution: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-gb/howto/wp7/apps/download-apps-and-games-faq.aspx
I hope it will help future WP7.5 users and giffgaffers!
Add the apn settings manually, that worked for me
Copied from the GiffGaff pages...
Connection Name: giffgaff - GPRS
APN - Access Point Name: giffgaff.com
Proxy Server Address: 193.113.200.195
Proxy Port:8080
Login - Username: giffgaff
Password: password
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Open settings, mobile network then add apn and fill in what you can, also make sure the adult bar has been removed from your account.
Same problem here, new to GiffGaff and can't download any apps. Can browse to them but just hangs installing.
Only thing I haven't done yet is remove the adult bar as the web page doesn't appear to be working.
What is ''Giffgaff'' ?
Giffgaff is a new mobile operator in the UK (check my sig)
Get the adult bar removed and make sure you have the apn settings correct

GiffGaff is one of the UK's newest and best sounding PAYG network around. However, it isn't worth anyones time or money. The service is constantly messing up, I have had several weekends over the 9 months with them were I couldn't call in or out and couldn't send receive text messages, I get text messages coming through at random hours, literally days after they were sent. My girlfriend is on it too, we once tried to make a call from my phone to hers in the same room and it kept going to her answer phone. '3' offer essentially the same thing as their £10 deal for £15, and I was more than happy to fork over an extra £5 a month for a network that worked properly.
GiffGaff is good for kids, but for an adult who uses it as a business number also? Not in the slightest. Their customer service consists of a forum (one of the reasons they can be cheaper) where people spam you with the same reply and tell you that you are wrong because theirs is working fine ¬¬ it was one massive nightmare. I'd strongly suggest everyone stays away from their crap.
Not wanting to take away from Siksik6 problem but here's my twopece worth.
Ive been on Orange, Vodaphone, O2 and Virgin mobile and out of all of them Giffgaff has worked the best.
I had no connectivity one weekend in November last year but that transpired to be an O2 issue and it was just data only. Calls and txt were fine and the few times I have used the forums for help I have always got help from other members.
I personally would recommend Giffgaff to anyone

This is the problem with the network.
People are so quick to get £5 through a refferal sim (they pay you through paypal to tell other it is a good network and get them to order a sim from your link) that they are willing to pretend it's "better" than any other network. I'd believe you if you said it was a good network, but better? in what ways? the 3G isn't even as fast as O2's!
I seriously suggest everyone go take a long at the mess of a 'customer service' forum there before even considering going there (every single thread is a mess of 20 things saying the same thing, people telling new members they are wrong and that the service isn't bad and is 98% total illiterate gibberish)
You know what a proper mobile networks forum has? Hardly anything because they don't constantly have problems from everything from sign up to complete phone blackouts.
And yes, sorry to steal the thread, but people shouldn't believe it is good. £5 more on any other network for the same deal will seriously do you more good. If you have problems you press a button and sort it out.
