Help!! Strange oil like squere on my screen - General Topics

Hello...
Sins a view days i have this Perfect square shape, that looks a bit like an oil on water (with purple colors ect.)
I can see it more clearly when i turn off the screen..
i try d to see if there was a difference in the sensitivity, but i did not notice any.
and everything els seems fine..
but i really don't like it..
and i am a bit worry d this could be the beginning of something bad...
I have a HTC Touch...
can some one help me out?

I think i fugured out what it it..
Looks like there is a little bit of fluide in my screen..
and its pushed to the centre...
very strange that this is posible..
is there anything i can do about it?
i dont know.. maybe turn it off. and blow dry the fluide ??
Any one any ideas?

It's nothing to worry about, I have had it several times on my HTC Universal.
It will dry out naturally, but a quick way is to place it in a sealed bag with some dry uncooked rice, and place it somewhere warn and dry overnight.
The rice will absorb any moisture, so if you place it in a sealed bag, it will dry out all of the moisture in there.

Hey..
thanks for the response..
Nice to know that i dont have to send it in for repair..
Just one question..
why does it need to be in a sealed bag?
why not just in the dry rice?
wont the moisture stay in the bag with the phone?
(hope i,m not asking a stupid question)
Thank!

Because you may live in a humid area, and it would soak up moisture from the air also. Best in the bag as it will dry the device out quicker.

My Droid X just fell into a puddle of water

I'm ready to cry because I love this phone so much. It has everything I can ever ask for in a phone and today in fell out of my pocket and into an extremely large puddle of water. The phone itself turns on but unfortunately the screen does not. The buttons light up and I can press the location to unlock it and lock it but can't see sheeeeeet. Please, does anyone know what I can do to remedy this situation. Like I said, I'm ready to cry. It was a gift from my brother and now its broken thanks to my clumsyness.
Wrong forum section....
...regardless throw it in a plastic bag filled with rice to absorb the moisture. May want to take the battery, sim card, and SD card out first.
I sincerely apoligize for positing in the wrong forum.
I have it ina bag of rice at the moment, no sim card due to it being a Verizone branded phone. I am so depressed at this. I mean, it's my baby, my lifeline to the outside world and now this happens!V How long do you sggest that I leave it in the bag of rice? I almost want to throw it pretty hard at the wall and hope it works but I doubt that would resolve any problems and cause only more issues but thank you for the advice and lets keep our fingers crossed. I pray to the phone gods that the screen comes back on. <tear> <tear>
You can buy a replacement screen for your Droid x off eBay for like $25 US. You can also get the digitizer to for about the same price. The screen just hooks up through a ribbon cable. Shouldn't.be to hard to replace. And I've sent an old phone through the wash and as long as it dries out completely you should be fine. But the worst thing you coulda done was turn it on while it was still wet. Water+Electronics=dead electronics

You're absolutely right.
Update though :
Thank goodness I have some good friends who was able to deliver a fresh bag of rice to me while I'm at work. I took the battery out, emptied the rice into a ziplock, sealed it airtight and left it on top of the dryer at my job (I work at a day spa). 1 Hour later, put everything back in and I feel like shedding tears because I am so happy! It works. The rice wa able to absorb the moisture and make everything work like nothing happened at all.
So for future reference if anyone ever has an issue, make sure to use rice(fill the bag up), take the battery out, zip lock it, wait a few hours, and profit!
Thank you XDA Moto forums for all of your help! I greatly appreciate it! Thank you, thank you, and one more time, Thank YOU!!!
Chris.
Another update, it doesn't want to turn on now. This is frustrating. Back to the bag of rice and I'm just going to leave it there overnight and see how that goes.

I've never dropped anything on my phone, I do remember dropping a nokia phone in the pool a few years back. The new phones tend to be more sensitive. I dunno, i'd personally try to dry it out, maybe unscrew the back and put it under a fan, or blower of some sorts. Is your phone under warranty? Dunno if accidental stuff is even claimable under warranty.
After waiting a while, plugging it into the charger without the battery, and then putting battery back in, everything is working fine. No more issues Thank you all. The rice absorbed any moisture so it worked very well,
how do we know theres not gonna be another update? But glad it's working for you, that happened to my moms cell (which was also a Motorola) except it was in the toilet. Bag of rice and a heat lamp absorbed all moisture.

My samsung galaxy y fell in water... what should i do?

i took within a second when it fell in water... then i removed my sd card, battery and sim... now im drying it... here now its night so my service centre also closed... please help me what should i do?????? :'-(
Good that you removed the pieces ASAP. I'd recommend filling a tupperware-type container with dry, uncooked rice and placing your device in that for 24-48 hours until it's really dry. Be sure to seal the lid. The rice will absorb any moisture in the container, including out of the internals of your phone. It's very important to make sure you get all traces of moisture out of the device before you try to power it back on.
open it up and dry it
In all honesty if it got a good dunking rather than just a dip ............ Just buy a new phone.
Chances are its screwed, generally any kind of water damage results in just about everything being screwed ........ except the casing
Staying optimistic. Codeslice's advice is decent but 48 hours is nowhere near long enough to hopefully dry a wet phone out not even close. The rice works a bit but the best method is to leave lid corner up and put the whole thing in an airing cupboard or somewhere else that has constant regular warm temps.
Leave it for at least a month IMHO if you want any chance at all, do not get impatient or curious remember your trying to rescue yourself from a situation where you'd lose hundreds of pounds ....... be patient.
But don't expect miracles ......... its probably screwed.
48 hours in sealed container with dry uncooked rice is more than good for a hot country like India where temps in most cases is higher over the uk
a bowl of rice does wonders mate saved my phone which fell in he sink
Yeah the bowl of rice is certainly the way to go. Always saved my phones.
Use an old phone until sgs3 is out, look at it as a win.
Yeah thanks for everyone.... I read the Rice bowl trick in ever blog.... But unfornatly im staying at outside... so its difficult to search for rice... instead i place my phone above the crt monitor and hell yeah my phone back to work... thanks everyone again...

[Q] Help! Water under lens cover

Went to take a picture tonight and there is water or condensation underneath the lens cover. No idea how this happened. But any idea on a fix or drying it out??
Any way to pop the lens cover off??
Not what I was hoping for.
Hair dryer on low setting?
sassafras
Rice leave it in Tupperware with dry rice overnight always has worked for me IMO
Bury it in rice overnight. I went swimming with my One X and this obviously got water all through it. I had put it in rice but ended up just claiming insurance on it, however, all of the water was out of the camera (and there was a lot).

Do NOT use heat on the phone. However low of a setting, it would either be low enough to not remove the water, and if it was warm enough then this can also weaken the adhesives inside the phone and cause other problems later on.
Tried gently blow drying it...condensation clears but come back
Tried gently blowdrying it, and the condensation clears but then comes right back once it cools.
Rice?? (of course i used the last of our rice for dinner tonight, so its off to the grocery store).
Of course off blowdrying on low while you are posting me not to...oh well, off forrice and see what things look like in the am.
I don't think it got very wet. I did have it on the counter while I was doing dishes, but it was a few feet away. All I can figure is that some water got on the back and somehow under the lens cover, but the phone itself wasn't wet. I popped out the sim card and that whole area was dry.
My concern is just whether the lens cover dries "clear" or if it remains clouded or dirty from the inside. Anyone know if there is any way of popping off the lens ring and cleaning the inside?

Uncooked rice in Tupperware! Take out microsim and cover. This phone is sealed up too good. Could take a few days.

If the rice thing doesn't work, I'd exchange it.
just say it randomly reboots. Good luck finding one at an AT&T store though

The rice thing may not work for true water damage, but it WILL remove the water from behind the camera. My phone was sumbereged for a couple minutes and one night in rice took away all of the visual water that was behind the screen and camera lens.
that reminds me, since the phone is so sealed up, where's the water damage indicator? inside the headphone jack?

the best thing to do in take out the battery and sim and dry them both thoroughly. Then put them both in some dry rice. can also try a vacuum
put it in rice and have it in rice for 1-3 night

I deal with about 100 mobile phone users in my company. I keep a zip-loc of rice in my desk for exactly this situation. Pop off the battery cover, and remove anything in there you can... Battery, Sim, SD... leave it all apart, and put it all in the zip-loc filled with rice and let it sit at least overnight. Shake it gently, as well!
Definitely do not put it in the oven as mentioned above =p
rice is the best option for most electrical gadgets
Bag of rice is your best bet.

I have also heard rice is the best thing. It pretty much acts like those little silicon packs you usually get with electronics.
Repaired iPods and phones with the rice method, but only works if you catch it in time

boiled rice or just raw??
Raw, uncooked off the shelf rice.
Uncooked rice absorbs water. When you cook it, it absorbs water and gets the nice soft stucture. Salt absorbs water as well, but wouldn't advice to put that in your cell. For this reason you often see grains of rice in salt dispensers (or what's it called in english? shakers?) The rice absorbs water and prevents the salt from sticking together etc.
yes, I think that rice is the best help in this case!
I disassembly my
sgs2 dry it assembly and it works ok, thanks anyway

The rice trick
Hi There,
Rice really work, belive me. not just saying that to bump up my post count.
Let my go off topic for a second.
I used the rice method to get condensation out of a sealed cheap diver's watch.
Just dump a laod of raw rice in a suace pan covering the phone and leave it there for a couple of days.
Really sucks out the moisture.
Uncooked rice is very useful in this situation. Place it inside an uncooked rice for a few days and the rice will absorb the moisture.
My HTC Sensation got wet and I didn't cover it with rice until next morning and I couldn't save it, what a shame it was.
I also tried to switch it on while wet, which I think put things worse and now it's being repaired by some paki, I don't think they will get to fix it...

Nexus 4 Waterproof case

I can't seems to find a suitable waterproof case for me. I don't like weather waterpoof case that's like a bag and thick. I'm finding a slim waterproof case just like normal casing. Example Lifeproof?
anyone got suggestion ?
I use dandy case I got from amazon. But it's more like a bag than a case. But it works really well. I use it on a lanyard.

I would not leave my phone in a waterproof case over long periods of time to avoid condensation created by the heat generated by the cpu!

Most random comment ever. Unless you phone is exuding water vapor it wont condense on to the inside of the case. Conversely your phone exuding heat would warm up the case driving away condensation.
Putting your phone into a case while in a humid environment then moving to a cold one would fog up the inside. Nothing else can really.

you are free to do what you want, but this is a problem that I have observed on computer controlled machinery in wash bay application (humid environment) there was actually more humidity going into the electronics when customers covered the machinery with plastic air tight covers when compared to customer who only used them straight with no protection and left the machines to dry afterwards!
Only trying to give out advice, in the end you can make up your own mind XD!

lol wut? only explanation is your customer sealed the cover when it's warm and wet. later on things cool down and condensation forms.
so guys, do not open & close your nexus 4 waterproof case when you are in a wet wash bay... wait I can't believe I actually drew a conclusion :silly:

ok let me get back to the basics, condensation is created from humidity, humidity is a term we use to describe how much water is in the air (because there is always water in the air) so that means that you can be in a dry room in California and there is still some water in your air (maybe not a lot but some)!
Now because you obviously don't know how to do a simple google research before talking, here let me google that for you !
p.s: new members cant link so i had to space them sorry!
this link here is very short and straight to the point:
https : // www . educate-sustainability.eu/portal/content/interstitial-condensation
here is another example of a totally different application where condensation is observed in an air/water- tight environment ( conservatory windows):
http : // www . conservatoriesprices.org.uk/tips-for-preventing-condensation-on-my-conservatory-windows/
there are lots more examples like watches that can sometimes still create some small amount of condensation with an unbroken air/water seal (this is rarely the case because watches generate very little heat so they adapt to the surrounding temperature easily)
now im not saying his phone will break because he uses an airtight case, i was simply saying, hey if your gonna use one be mindful of condensation ! thats all.
Now there are forums on the net where ppl are cool and share information and help each other and others where ppl just flame each other. dont worry i learned my lesson trying to be nice here. I wont bother posting anymore ill keep to myself and stay in the development parts of this forum.
thank you good day

Sorry man i didnt mean to offend you. And yes i know what condensation and air humidity is. In fact i know that a moajority of air by weight is indeed water (vapor obviously) i live in india where the humidity hits 78%+. Out in cali i know its less and by less id say in the 50s to 60s.
Condensation happens when warm air which can hold more moisture hits a colder surface and drops the moisture (thats the same concept as rain). Now if you case up your phone in a reasonably dry place and you head out so long as your case isnt super cold which is unlikely youre much more likely to fog up its outside than its inside.
(at this point i read your link)
ok man look at the diagram you have high vapor content hitting the wall. If you sit in your bedroom and put on a airtight case which sits snug enough your case and phone will heat up to within a few degrees of each other which is not going to trigger condensation unless it was packed in a high moisture environment. It simply cannot hit the dew point like that. package your phone in summer and take it out in winter yes. Can happen. But if you packaged it somewhere reasonably dry youre good to go.
Peace r3d we are both on the same team here. Two guys trying to be helpful.
If you are going swimming, use a waterproof case. Science! There is such a thing as over thinking things.
