I have a Wizard from Cingular that I unlocked to use an old ATT Wireless simcard with. I would like to install Windows Mobile 6, but I read that I'll need an IPL/SPL over 2.xx, but I currently only have 1.xx (forgot what they were exactly). How would I go about upgrading my IPL/SPL?

The wiki is your friend.
As long as your Wizard is CID unlocked (best done whilst you are still running IPL/SPL of 1.xx) you can just flash a current Carrier ROM (T-Mobile seems popular) your IPL/SPL will be updated to something like 2.26 Once at 2.xx you can flash one of the ROMs described on this Forum.
Warning the whacky world of WM6 Wizardery is highly addictive.
I would recommend you keep your ipl/spl in the 2.xx range..there is no real benefit to going to 3.xx (ok some people claim bootup is like 4 seconds faster) but it can cause all sorts of issues if you ever need to install another rom and need to downgrade the ipl/spl. Details in the wiki I'm sure.

I currently have IPL/SPL: 2.26 is it good to upgrade IPL/SPL to 3.08 i see alot of people have this. WM6 on my G3 Wizard. Can someone tell me what is the benefit of having IPL/SPL 3.08.... SIM/CID Unlocked.
i kno that when u update your IPL/SPL to 3.08 when you turn it on it starts the phone up faster...less time with splash screens...**(but it does boost your phone speed overall...i think...so small u would barely notice tho...)**

I dont suppose any of you guys have IPL/SPL v 2.xx to pass on do you ?? Or know where i can get hold of such? I tried to upgrade my miniS to WM6 but used the IPL/SPL 3.08 as i couldnt find v2. now i cant get the wm6 rom to take.

Well, my guess is that your phone is already unlocked if your SPL is 3.08.
Is is a G3 or G4 Wizard?

So just try to launch the setup for BD to know if it really isn't already unlocked (in case it is, the Rom will install, and if it isn't, then it just won't, so theres' no risk for your phone.

Just to forewarn you, do not install the downgrade ROM until you bring your IPL/SPL down from 3.08 to 2.xx. If you don't you may end up like a lot of other people on here where you can't upgrade the IPL after you get done unlocking your phone and go to install WM6. To get it down, just go to your service providers website and download their official version of their ROM and install it first and that should bring your IPL/SPL down to a 2.xx version, then flash the downgrade ROM.

I did find one workaround that appears to almost always work is to have a minisd with a dumped raw image of a previous rom with ipl/spl included (r2d all command)...this was able to downgrade a phone on 3.08 back to 2.24 even after having gone to wm6. (it downgraded it back to wm5 at the same time)...conventional flashes were failing due to the ipl/spl.

Yeah, downgrading your IPL/SPL is easy, it's when you go from a 3.xx IPL/SPL straight to a 1.xx IPL/SPL that can cause problems, like your IPL sticking at 1.01 afterwards and not wanting to upgrade back to a higher IPL.

In the future, don't send private messages to people who haven't contributed to this thread. If you can't figure out how to downgrade and/or unlock your phone after reading the many, many threads on how to do it, I suggest sticking with WM5.
Here, run this. It's an IPL/SPL version only. It won't affect anything you info or programs you have loaded on your phone right now, all it will do is lower you back down to an IPL/SPL of 2.26.

That's not normal, try running it again. I think I just put a file that will change it to 2.25 in another post that you started. If the 2.26 one doesn't work after running it again, try the 2.25 one and see if it works for you.
Just install a factory T-Mo or Cingular ROM
(Gotta locate 1 yourself)
You'll lose all your info but you wanted to flash another Rom anyway.

I followed Dr. Puttingham's thread and Yippie's thread to a tee in addition to reading threads in this forum for a good number of hours each day for two weeks. Yesterday, I became brave enough to downgrade my 2.26 Ipl / 2.26 spl; GSM 2.25.11; OS 2.26.10.2 MDA with a goal to upgrade to a custom WM6 rom with touchflo.
* Started with flashing the button rom then cid unlock with lockwiz2b which looked successful no errors but got a 1.xx IPL / 2.26 SPL since I got a 2.26 SPL then
* flashed the wizard love rom then then cid unlock with lockwiz2b which looked successful also but got the same results - a1.xx IPL / 2.26 SPL again then
* flashed the 2.26 T-mobile rom from the Tmobile website then
* flashed NBD 8.3 only to go back to Tmobile's 2.26 rom - DISAPPOINTED after two hours...............
Any assistance would be appreciated without bricking my MDA. Also, I read the thread on how to install a 2.x rom in a cid locked G3, this method appears a little bid complicated and if I need to move forward with this method, would this method work for any WM6 rom with touchflo and if somebody could simplify the method in layman's terms for newbie's like me could understand, please advice.

After u do cid unluck and sim unluck and its reboots do a downgrade again to the button rom and ur ipl and spl will change.(u do not have to re-due the onlucking procedure again)
I tried again performing Dr. Puttingham's CID unlocking process in terms of flashing the button rom then the CID unlock process using Lokowiz2b but while I am at the DOS screen trying to CID unlock my MDA it the DOS screen showed unlocking phone........DO NOT DISCONNECT UNTIL THE PHONE REBBOTS.
This process went on for 5 then 10 then past 30 minutes until I gave up. To be on the safe side I turned off the LAPTOP by taking the battery then pulled the USB cable from the PC to the MDA.
What is the typical timeframe for the unit to CID unlock? Why is is it hanging? Am I missing or skipping the process? How can I complete the process?
Any help would ber greatly appreciated by newbies who read threads.

The problem is that you need to have an IPL/SPL of 1.xx before you try to unlock your phone. CID unlocking will not change your SPL which means that you had an IPL of 1.xx and an SPL of 2.26 before you even tried to unlock. You need to reflash the button ROM over and over until your IPL and SPL both show 1.xx and then run lokiwiz.
dont get your point, i have been using shelltool for ages without any problems and quite a lot custom roms. my SLP/IPL is 3.08.

if your device doesn't reboot almost at once after the unlock, it probably didn't work. That is what happened to me. Did you get four lines of File cannot be opened or a similar message? I got that from following the 17 steps carefully. What was wrong for me was unzipping to the root directory of C:/. When I redid it to the desktop and executed from there, no problemo.
Your symptoms sound exactly like mine. I posted a longer thread, somewhere....

Ok i did a little booboo and yesterday was using equinoxe's softspl tool by mistake (didn't notice i had a g3), this causes you to actually end up with the exact same os you had before you flashed.
The best advice I can give: Open the Dr's guide and follow every step closely. (also just found this guide. Its a bit simpler http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305225)
Once you CID unlock you should be able to use the RUUs to flash.
Make sure everytime you do any of the steps that dr. putt gives to be comepletely synced to activesync.
Also dont forget to load enablerapi.cab on your wizard.
Also you must use the unlock function before the cid unlock function in lokiwiz.
OH also the unlock will work after your ipl drops to 1.xx After you do the unlocks reflash button to drop the spl to 1.xx Then just flash up to a higher IPL/SPL as the Dr states.

Umm I believe the IPL/SPL of 3.08 means your phone is unlocked... so you really shouldnt need to use shell tool. Some correct me if I'm wrong

Just cause you have 3.08 does not mean you are unlocked..you could have upgraded a 2.xx ipl/spl without having downgraded and unlocked first.

right, i installed the latest german t-mobile rom and my device is still locked. the point i made is why the hell does somebody want to downgrade? It doesnt matter if u use the shelltool.

Perhaps they want it actually cid unlocked for resale value...or perhaps they prefer the RUU method of installs vs having to use shelltool.

1.installing the rom that downgrade the ipl to 1.00
2.cid unlock
3.installing the rom that changes ipl/spl tp 3.08
any rom that i try to install finshes 100% succsesful
but still boot a wm5 rom with a new icon when starts
any help will be great

Personally, I went from button 1.05 rom to TMobile 2.26 rom to new WM6 rom.
I flashed 3.08 later - as is does not change the O/S - only IPL/SPL. Did not find any benefit to it, so went back down to 2.26
Please note that there are freezing issues if you flash down from 3.08 to 1.05. Apparently the spl can freeze if you do this - and that is a problem. So, to play it safe - do not do that - thanks.
It is always recommended that you flash a solid 2.xx rom such as the TMobile one when going between the different WM6 roms available here - you may want to try that - go down to 2.xx, then upgrade to WM6

Well,after downgrading to 1.xx and CID unlocking,its essential to upgrade to ipl/spl 2.xx for upgrade to wm6,its highly recommended to upgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile 2.26 for a solid base,but,however, you can still even upgrade to wm6 with ipl/spl 3.08.Wm6 works on 2.xx and 3.xx.

I believe your phone is still CID locked,you didn't do the CID unlock method correctly,but you upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08,now you can only CID unlock your phone by downgrading to 1.xx. Yes! SPL freezes if you downgrade to 1.xx from 3.08.So always first downgrade to 2.xx and then to 1.xx.Now I'll advise you to upgrade to IPL/SPL 3.08 again and then try to downgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile or Wizard_love Rom or official stock Rom of your carrier if other then T-mobile.If succeed to downgrade to 2.xx,only then flash Button's Rom 1.05 to get to 1.xx and apply the lokiwiz02b to CID unlock the phone.After that upgrade to 2.xx by flashing T-mobile 2.26 and upgrade to any wm6 Rom.

why do you wanna downgrade?
I use 3.08.0001, too, but don' see any reason to change it.
If you still have to, you can try the Wizard Service Tool. It allows to flash almost everything, even an older IPL/SPL.
All you need is this tool and a ROM file with the IPL/SPL version you want to flash. Tryout the OEM Roms in the Wizard Wiki. At least one of them should have the right version.

I got an Wizard G4, too, with WM 6.1, IPL/SPL 3.08.001 and CID NOT unlocked.
As said, you can try the WST, worked very well for me. Maybe you have to flash an original WM5.0 ROM before trying to flash WM6, that's how it worked for me.
