Don't get ruffled if this is off topic...
I just picked up the new ATT 'OGO' email / im client. It's not a phone but does use a sim card. I pulled the sim and put it in my ppc and a treo and it will allow you to get im and email..! for only 17.99 a month!!! no browser and you have to switch chips to use your phone but email was costing me over $60 a month for the last two billing sessions...
The appliance itself is ok but i hate carrying the brick around with me. works on the att gprs network...no account necessary and it's no contract - the hitch is you gotta buy the appliance to open the $17.99 account as it only activates through the device itself...
oh - don't think you can use it outside the u.s and canada...
Hey all,
I'm off to Ireland at the end of the week and I'm taking my XDA with me, I'd like to be able to use GPRS to get onto MSN etc, but I'm not sure how much I'd be charged for this, I've spoken to O2 about phone call and text prices, but forgot to ask about GPRS.
O2 do appear to have their own GPRS settings for Ireland, so my question is: If I use the GPRS setting for Ireland, will the MB's be used from my inclusive ones ? or will I be charged extra for them..
Cheers
read somewhere that they were making tons of money with overpricing roaming
read that a person using a local phone company could expect to pay up to
10£ pr MB when traveling around in europe
of cause if it's the same phone company maybe it's much cheaper
I've been using the i-Mate JAM for almost 2 years. Decided to bypass the Wizard and wait for the next generation device (preferably with 3G). I am on T-MO and have grandfathered unlimited data plan for $19.99. For the last 2 weeks I tried the Dash and although I loved the device in general (especially phone part of it) it doesn't do it for me. The shortcomings of the Outlook (no notes synchronization, notes field in Contacts does not exist and notes in the Tasks and Events only sync one way) and luck of software I am used to on ppc phone are my problems. I would love to the get the 3G, but T- MO does not have it yet, which means I would have to move to the Cingular. I looked into their data plans and to pay $40 for the unlimited plan seems ridiculous for me. But even using Edge on the Dash made me jealous. It is noticeably faster than the GPRS I have.
So what do you think? Should I get the TyTN and use it for now on T-MO with Edge and wait until 3G will become available or should I get an MDA with 1 year contract? Is there anyone who is using the TyTN on T-MO?
Any advice would be appreciated.
The TyTN on T-Mobile is the MDA Vario II - at least in Europe.
Is anybody using LG KS20 in Japan? Can you teach me how to setup the MMS with a softbank network. I have found and tried many solutions here but I just dont know why all unsucessful.
Thank you so much.
I am not using your phone but my Universal here. Works like a charm and so will yours. As for MMS, you may be able to get it to work - I think there is even a translated version of the Softbank mail application somewhere floating around in the forums. But unlike SMS you have to have a data tariff to use that feature. Be very careful! Softbank literally punishes people for using their WM phones here in Japan.
If you don't use the flatrate 1 MB translates to 1,000 Yen transaction cost. Do the math and watch all those horrifying scenarios unfold in your mind You can use their packet flatrate, but your device will automatically be recognized and you will be billed about 10,000 Yen at the end of the month. On paper that flatrate may start at 1,000 Yen, but there is no way that you can get below the max if you even remotely use your device.
It's not too expensive compared to the other scenario, but it definitely makes you think twice before abandoning SMS. Those are free to other Softbank customers for just 980 Yen (and you get free calls from 1am until 9pm every day). But if you want to send them abroad, be careful again - It's possible to do so, but each and every SMS goes out for 100 Yen. They even warned me at the Softbank store about this...
All in all, if you need lots of data you might want to consider E-Mobile. They cater to the smartphone crowd with a 6,000 Yen flatrate and even offer roaming for voice into DoCoMo's network for some of their devices (not that you need it with VoIP). I think that your device might support their frequency - it's at least worth a try. SMS might not be an option, but with a full blown flatrate you can just use an internet SMS service.
So I'm due for an upgrade, voda UK won't give it to me, so I have requested PAC. They do have the HD2 as web only but voda always put their own firmware on it.
So what I want to know, is what are the best deals around for the HD2 in the UK. Ideally I want unlimited text, unlimited data and 500+ minutes. I pay at the moment £35 pm for 750minutes, unlimited text+unlimited data and would like to pay maybe a little less .
Help me find a better deal please oh and I'd like the phone un-modified and I don't really want to pay for the bloody handset lol.
Is it possible? Help me find out.
It's very good!
The vodafone hd2 has no operator specific software on it and mine is sim-unlocked too!
I got it free on-line and this tariff:
Plan 18 month
900 mins Unltd texts £40
+ Online exclusive - this plan includes 300 extra minutes
+ Unlimited land lines
+ 500MB of mobile internet and webmail
With £90 quidco cash-back that makes it £35/month
Was it from the vodafone uk website?

Yes and it was a new contract, although I PACd in from Virgin.
Well, have ordered my Leo today and apparently it will arrive tomorrow. So fingers crossed
nice one did you get it from vodafone in the end? seems like most people can't anymore
No voda stopped them the day I was going to order it lol, so ended up ordering off mobilephones direct, still on Voda connection though but the handset will be unlocked and unbranded.
I really hope it comes tomorrow.
You know you should get it on O2, thats what Im doing. Buy an unlocked hd2 and then pick up a free O2 sim card and I cant remember the name of the deal (describe it to them) where IF YOU CHOOSE to top up £10 you get free texts, or if you top up £15 a month, your get free texts AND unlimited internet, and then the cash goes to talktime and whatever else you need.
Im getting my HD2 for xmas, its here but im not allowed it yet then christmas eve im gonna go pick up the sim from O2
hope you love the HD2, I know I will, looks AWESOM!!!!!!!!
I did receive it and it is awesome, there's a few problems that I need to work out (some software I had on my Diamond, doesn't work on the Leo) but it's all good fun and i'm loving it
