TyTN onT-MO (USA) - General Topics

I've been using the i-Mate JAM for almost 2 years. Decided to bypass the Wizard and wait for the next generation device (preferably with 3G). I am on T-MO and have grandfathered unlimited data plan for $19.99. For the last 2 weeks I tried the Dash and although I loved the device in general (especially phone part of it) it doesn't do it for me. The shortcomings of the Outlook (no notes synchronization, notes field in Contacts does not exist and notes in the Tasks and Events only sync one way) and luck of software I am used to on ppc phone are my problems. I would love to the get the 3G, but T- MO does not have it yet, which means I would have to move to the Cingular. I looked into their data plans and to pay $40 for the unlimited plan seems ridiculous for me. But even using Edge on the Dash made me jealous. It is noticeably faster than the GPRS I have.
So what do you think? Should I get the TyTN and use it for now on T-MO with Edge and wait until 3G will become available or should I get an MDA with 1 year contract? Is there anyone who is using the TyTN on T-MO?
Any advice would be appreciated.

The TyTN on T-Mobile is the MDA Vario II - at least in Europe.

XDA Zinc coming soon on O2

Just checked the O2 website and the XDA Zinc is on the coming soon list due for release in Jan. Did some research and this looks like the handset to replace my Mini S (wizard).
Anybody have a Zinc yet? What are your thoughts?
I'd quite like to get this however I'm not sure about sticking with o2. The MDA Vario II on T-Mobile seems much more attractive with the web and walk tariff

Totally agree but T-Mobile call quality/coverage is crap compared to O2 (in London at least!).
Is it possible to get a Blackberry tariff and use it in an xda? I've noticed that they have unlimited data tariffs at reasonable prices, but I'm not sure if it would work in an xda and if it covers that type of data usage
not sure, good shout though. I was even considering get the handset and picking up a 3 sim card, they have got good deals at the mo and also offer unlimited data access. Not sure the sim would work in the handset though.....
Just spoke to customer services, release date is 15 Jan however no new data packages
I rang o2 and asked them if they could match the T-Mobile offer. They said for £36 a month I could get 36mb of data. They pretty much told me to go with T-Mobile...decided that's what I will do!

Also does anybody know if the Zinc has a jog wheel / dial like the TyTyn?
does anybody have any links to reviews of this handset ?
just spoke to O2 and the new release date is March! even though their website still says jan!

Sprint HTC Mogul VS AT&T Tilt.

Hey all, Just wondering what some peoples opinion would be if they were in my situation.
I'm thinking of one phone or the other. No matter what I have to get them through a contract because of lack of money and I need a phone this week.
I'm leaning towards the HTC Mogul through sprint. For the sero plan's available. But when I read forums of unhappy Mogul owners, it makes me think I should just go with the updated and newer platform in the Tilt.
But the main problem I have with the tilt is the pricing of the plans. If I got the phone, internet is important to me. I don't think the 20MB data plans would be enough for someone using the Tilt daily would it? So I'd be forced to get the 39.99/monthly data plan, which is painful because I'd have to get the cheapest rollover plan possible just to afford the monthly bill. And of course that would mean I'd barely be able to use the actual phone. So that would suck.
But I'm afraid if I get the sprint plan I'm always going to regret not getting the Tilt because of poor performance and issues with the bad roms.
So for those that own either, is the Mogul that bad? Is the Tilt really that much of an improvement, or do they both have issues that will nag at you. If you could have either phone, 1 on the sero plan with a Mogul (49.00, unlmited night and weekend starting at 7, 1250 anytime minutes, unlimited data, and unlimited texting) vs AT&T tilt (39.99 450 anytime rollover, unlimited night and weekend starting at 9p.m., and the 39.99 unlimited data plan). Which one would you choose now, or in hindsight?
Is the tilt really worth it? Or should I stick with the mogul?
Anyone?
Love the Mogul and the SERO plan. Best thing I've ever done. I really enjoyed at the camp where everyone's GSM phones were searching for signal but I was roaming with full voice and EVDO data coverage. And with SERO it didn't cost anything extra.

It's very hard to look past how amazing the Sero plan is for a staving college student. That's for sure.
Has the mogul been reliable for you for the most part? And how is the network in terms of voice? Sprint wasn't always the best back in the day, has is it now?
go with the mogul trust. I've had the mogul since the day it first came out about 2 years ago and I love it. the features and programs for it are unlimted. u could do so much...download hacks...programs....templates and other useful features. not to mention with the new software updates that keep your mogul up to date and working even better than before. I personally prefer the mogul rather than the tilt because it is a hole lot cheaper and when it comes down to the date plan sprint all the way. besides the only real differences between the tilt and mogul is that the tilt can obviously tilt and may have a little better megapixle camera....but never the less, the mogul is a great PPC
I'm sure the OP has most likely made his decision in the nine months that have gone by since he started this thread.

Best data plan

Hey everyone
I've been thinking of getting a smart phone for a while now, and for most of my time I've had my heart set on the HTC Blackstone. After viewing it in the shop today, I was left thinking about how large it was. Does anybody who has a Blackstone find it too large/cumbersome?
The phone I want to get def. has to run windows mobile, and I'd prefer it if it was an HTC. (Their touch screens just seem a lot more responsive).
What do you guys recommend is the best HTC touchscreen that runs windows mobile at the moment?
Also I'm based in the UK, I'm looking for the carrier that provides the cheapest sim-only contract that includes unlimited data.
I know vodafone, T-Mobile and 3 can get you contracts for £15 which I think is okay, but I heard from 3 today that they block voip unless you use skype that runs on one of the contract phones that they provide. I'm not interested in any carrier that claims to give unlimited internet but then blocks certain applications.
Do you guys know of any decent carriers that don't do this?

Any luck with AT&T data plans not for smartphones?

Just wondering if you anybody has still be able to get passed AT&T's "smartphone" higher data rate.
I have an LG non smart phone that I am thinking about using to purchase the unlimited messaging and data plan for $30. Then swapping my sim back to my fuze.
But I dont know if AT&T has gotten wise to this or not.
yep they seem to catch ya quick now ....we signed up 3 weeks ago and got the unlimited data plan with our 2 pantech impacts ..then i bought a fuze a week later
and within 3 hours of turning on the fuze the nailed me and changed me over to the 2gb smartphone plan ...so unless someone knows a way around this looks like att gets to screw us some more
or if someone can figure out how to block the imei ..cause i think thats how they can tell
Just my experience but yesterday I had to go to the AT&T store to put the $30 data plan on my HTC Fuze. What happened was I put my sim card in my first gen iPhone so it activated the $15 data then I put my card back in my Fuze so for the last two months I had an iPhone plan running on the fuze and they never said anything but after about a week I stopped getting 3G service so I guess as the saying goes you get what you pay for. If you want to, try it but beware if anyone does have the $30 unlimited data plan if you even switch it off for a second you can't get it back good thing was that the iphone was a smartphone with unlimited data.
Signed up with AT&T years ago. Been staying with them contract free because I get the $15 medianet internet.
From what Ive seen, if you never call or contact AT&T, you're fine.
I have a Fuze and a unlocked Telstra Diamond, both with $15 a month medianet on our family plan.
Never been contacted about a change, and have been running on these phones for well over a year. (and on my phone, I frequently go around 5-10gb a month of data). Before these, we had a treo 750, and a palm centro on the medianet plan, and before that a Treo 650.
The 750 and up have all been considered "smartphones" yet Ive never been forced to upgrade.
I should note that I have never bought a phone through AT&T and all of these have been unlocked phones bought on ebay, and just switched out the sim.
As always YMMV.
Yeah IDK. When I swap in my sim card to the LG, AT&T online changes my device. Then when I put my sim back into my Fuze, it will pretty much instantly change it back on the website. Even if I go in and manually change it, it will revert right back my Fuze.
I just think it is a rip off that smartphones get charged more for the exact same network access.

[Q] Best/Cheapest AT&T data option

First I would like to say I have looked at the other topics and not found one (though I guess I could have missed one) that answers my question.
I am with AT&T and have been for years, it just works a little better than Verizon where I live. To give the run down: I had a Samsung Eternity and then bought an iPhone 3g (turned data off) and had that for 1&1/2 years till it broke, I then bought a Samsung Captivate from a friend and a month in got hit with a $25 data package when the data got accidentally turned on so I swapped back to my Eternity since I couldn't afford the $25 data plan. I now have a LG VU Plus that I'm testing out to see if I'll like it or not.
All that to say this: I am contemplating getting the unlimited non-smartphone data plan ($10 I think) and want to know what closest to smartphone AT&T non-smartphone is. I would like it to have:
touch screen (capacitive pref)
horizontal qwerty keyboard (no BlackBerry style)
Camera (flash would be nice)
OR
Could I Get a UK model smartphone and try to use the unlimited non-smartphone data. I'm thinking/hoping I could call using an AT&T branded non-smartphone to get them to add the unlimited non-smartphone data then swap to the UK smartphone?
