Anyway to make my SD card run as ram? - General Topics

My 4GB card as 1GB of free space. Is there a way to make it run as ram to make the system run faster?

no sd cards are way! too slow to do that
also flash have a limited nr of writes before they die
like cd-rw/dvd-rw discs if they were to act the role
of superslow ram they would die fast

Yup, superslow-to-write (about 100 times slower!) Flash memory just can't be used as RAM.

microSD Final Capacity

Just curios as to what your formatted capacity of a 8gb microSD card is?
My card:
8gb - 7.4gb
I know you never get the full amount - but 600mb diverence seems a little excessive. Do you think the card is ok?
Seems pretty normal mines about 450mb difference but not alot in it and when you consider how much you lose on a PC HD then it's pretty minute
Yes it is !
Thanks folks - now reassured

How about making swap on cappy ?

I don't know if anyone ever thought about making swap on cappy . I just feel a bit of shortage in ram, even I use talon big mem version still feel inadequate. What I am thinking is to make swap on external sdcard because it's faster, anyone can help me with it? Thanks in advance.

are you talking about a memory swap file?
"make swap" isnt too descriptive.
SD cards under class 6 are slower than our "ram"
if you feel inadequate with a big mem version of talon, you have something wrong.
adding another process to constantly read/write and swap files would be THE LAST THING you would want to do with your phone....
Android is pretty efficient at managing memory .... and swap files are well, terrible when you have high speed storage (ssd's, nand,) and for the class on the sd cards it is misleading. A lot of cards have algorithms that help improve their read speeds, with SSD (or NAND) you want to see the random IO speeds for reads and writes (class speeds are for reads)

I mean memory swap.
And I have a class 10 card(tested read 20M/s and write 18M/s).
Thanks for your answersI'll think about it either way.
Does the captivate even have quick enough i/o to support class 10? And either way, like mentioned before Android IS very efficient at managing memory, which shows in their design of activities (read: onResume(), onPause(), onCreate(), onDestroy()). If your foreground app requires more memory than the system can provide, lower activities on the stack will be told to pause or destroy until a later time to free up memory.
If your phone's performance is suffering, it's most likely a processing issue. Perhaps you have some nasty services running (this could also be reflected in poor battery life).

memory capacity

Hello to all!
First of all I want you to know that if it seems obvious that 8GB can be short fast, but it happens from the system stock my Moto available memory tells me they are 8GB dividing 2GB approximate for applications and another 5 GB approximate multimedia , in conclusion they are the 7.64 GB of memory 8gb. but now DIMINISH capacity considerably with custom rom and even uses all memory equally, leaving me only 3GB of storage media. be that the way in which the partition of custom rom is installed on the storage media? previously had a Samsung Advance 8GB and 4GB approximate always left me for multimedia. approximate and 2GB for applications. so my doubt
sorry for my bad english

1 GB or 2 GB?

I'm gonna use this phone for browsing the web, whatsapp, facebook, and casual gaming. Is 1 GB ram gonna be absolutely enough?
I required a phone quickly for my holiday and was unable to wait for stock of 2gb version. Yes I would have liked to have the extra but everything I have tried on the handset has worked fine.
All okay the phone is very nippy.
web, whatsapp, facebook,
As for casual gaming any games you want me to test?
2gb
what is the idle ram usage?
2GB - but in EU the start price is horrify and some weeks later started to sell the 2GB dual-sim variants.
Hello,
Some time between Android 4.4.x and 5.x, Google added extra fat to its app.
I suggest the minimum specs: 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory.
2gb is def worth the money. in the states it's only a $40 difference to double the storage and the RAM. if you're jumping between apps, you'll appreciate the extra RAM
If you only use the phone for email, browsing, navigation, texting, etc. Then 1GB is fine. But if you do a lot of multitasking then 2GB will be a lot better.
thank you all...i'm now getting the 16 gb model....
Off course 2Gb for best performance
2GB.
You won't be pressed for internal storage space and multi-tasking.

How to use MSD card as RAM in GT-P3100?

I have been wondering how we can use any Micro SD cards in the Tab as a RAM The performance of the tab is decent with the 1 GB RAM currently but it with some games like Asphalt 8 there are certain issues at times with frame freeze/drops on online gaming. Please suggest a sure shot way to do this.

There's some trick using ram expander, swap ram, but u need to find rom that support swap. Try this h.t.t.p://en.miui.com/thread-18816-1-1.html
