Battery drain, performance question - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

My first post, so just in short... great job guys! Each post and thread is very, very helpfull, informative and easy to understand.
Anyway, I am running XDA WM6 r2a. I've noticed that battery performance dropped significantly compared to WM 5 I used to run for a week. With moderate use, no WiFi or BT, just using it as a phone and PDA. I can get no more then 2 days. In fact, it is no more then day and the half.
Also, changing screen orientation when sliding keyboard is very slow compared to WM 5, IMHO.
So, my question, is that only because of using WM 6 or should I try something else? Using task manager, I see "iddle process"which is always at 50% minimum of CPU.
On today screen I use only HTC home plugin.
And yes, I o/c to 234 with battery status. Could this app drain my battery?
TIA,
Никола

uninstalla BatteryStatus...is a VERY good idea!
...XDA r2a is soooo fast without overclock
you'll see...your battery "come back" to life....
...another little idea:
before flash a wm6 rom, flash your mobile with an "original" one
ciao

i am so tired about all this stories...
I NEVER FLASHED BACK TO ANY CUSTOM ROM
I NEVER CHARGED MY WIZARD TO 100% BEFORE FLASHING
I NEVER REMOVED MY STORAGE CARD WHILE FLASHING
I NEVER SR IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLASH
I NEVER HR IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLASH
I NEVER USED CLEAR STORAGE AFTER FLASH
I NEVER REFLASHED IPL/SPL OR RADIO AFTER A ROM FLASH
ETC ETC ETC ....
AND I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS!!!
I think all of this are just stupid stories because someone did not understood what his real problem is...

Yes, overclock will drain the battery, try cpuscalar function in batterystatus ,It may help

Well, you really had a strong battery. My Wizzard only lasted for about a day and a half, when i was using wm5. But when i flashed to wm6. It seems to be longer than 2 days.
Of course, I am using it very frequently everyday

Huge powerdrain Faria WM 6 WWE

Since two days I'm having a huge power drain on the faria WM6 WWE os. Anybody else having the same problem. I already edited my reg (HKLM/Drivers/SDCARD/ClientDrivers/Class/SDMemory_Class/DisablePowerManagement change this value to 0.) but it won't help.
power drain is losing approximate 5% of battery within one hour...
Never I had this problem with all the others WM6 os versions (until now). And this is bad because I love the faria os versions. Theire good, fast and stable.
i have noticed the same thing, i thought it was something extra i installed but most of the wm6 roms i have tried are battery hungry, i wonder why? if my phone is 100% and i dont make any calls 2 hrs later i go to use it and its at 75%
mun_us rom is wm6 and the battery has never lasted so long since i had it
when i first flashed the rom it installed this cab file straight away with others i have attached it maybe thats whats helping out my battry life
Save That Power
Open up Batery Status by Clicking and Holding the icon for it on the home screen. Tweak the OMAP settings. Set the over clock to or around 260. Then turn the scaler on. set this to the original cpu Speed. That should help. Worked for me.

I had noticed the same with this ROM and tried to enable the scaler. It had no impact. I moved back to mun_rus which as easymob says is much kinder on the battery.
It would be useful if some could confirm his thoughts on this.
I notice that my battery will drain faster when I am using my EDGE connection for internet or streaming purposes, but for anything else the battery seems to last much longer (sitting idle or simple phone calls)...

It activates power management for you sd card.
The default setting is off wich means you sd card is running at full power thus draining your battery faster.
With the setting on, power is only consumed when you're actually using the sd card therefore saving your battery.
I used the CPUScaler from BatteryStatusTool which is in rom. Setting it to 121mhz, so battery last for a long time. in standby the cpu dont needs so much frequency, even with programs like im+ in the background.

Infrared modules are very efficient in recent devices so should cause very little battery drain at all. I remember a report someone did using their Axim on Aximsite.com and they reported that with IR off the overall extra operating time bonus was less than a minute.
No Probs with MB WM6
I had battery issues with other WM6 roms, but don't have that issue with MB WM6 rom. Not sure what is different.
Try putting your pda near a bunch of IR devices, and watch your pda get battery drained!

Today al of a sudden my battery started draining rapidly. I have the Faria now for a week & was very happy with it. But now my power drops extreme fast. I have nothing new installed. I enabled the powersaving for SD, but that doesn't help. Wondering what's causing this all of a sudden drain.

Well that's pretty obvious, I meant when the unit is in standby because generally the Wizard isn't going to be near/communicating with IR devices. In standby it is very efficient like most things compared to being powered up. Also I just got Noviiremote coincidentally and I found that the IR module was pretty weak, especially compared to my old Axim, I have to be very close to use it. If its weak then its probably not using much power so I would say IR, unless being surrounded by IR devices a lot is of insignificant drain to the battery.
I also had the powerdrain issue with the Faria rom; but when I deleted the SC.lnk and javapushservice.lnk with the StartUp Manager it seems I lost the powerdrain issue.
I disconnected my phone at 7am this morning and now it's almost 11am and I lost 3% with use of Pushmail, Internet GPRS and 2 phonecalls.

What does these two do? especially SC.lnk? - Sorry. I got the ans. Thanks anyways. I will test and let the forum know.
SC.lnk is the shortcut to rotate the screen; that one should probably have no effect.
The javapushservice.lnk starts the elatepushservice; I assume that one consumes the power

Battery Life

Hi Ladies and Gents-I am having the WORST time finding a solution to my battery life problem. I've even goten a replacement device from AT&T in case it was an internal problem.
Sitting idle during the day except for the device checking email every hour, a text here and there, and an occasional 5 minute phone call; my Tilt ends up at 20% at the end of an eight-hour work day.
Others have indicated that they've had upwards of 70% battery at the end of the day, with much more device use!
I've had the battery tested at Batteries Plus, and they conclude there are no bad cells nor leakage.
I live in the Indianapolis area and am using Radio 1.64.08.21 and Utty's April 29th Hybrid ROM if that's useful information.
I also use GPS golf software, but can only last 8 or 9 holes. It's madening!
Can someone help?
Thanks....

Well, if you leave the program running in the background instead of closing it, then it will continue to actively use the GPS. In which case 8 hours would be a good battery life. Try actually exiting the programs that use GPS when you are not using them to see if that affects the battery life. Some roms will kill the program if you click the X in the corner, and others only minimize it. Just a thought.

Obviously, your not just complaining about battery life on the golf course. That does sound like abnormal battery drain during a regular day. I had the same problem when I had push email active.
I hard reset , reloaded all my programs without push email , and my battery life was back to crappy normal. 100% to warning popup in about 24 hours.
The push email was keeping Edge connected all day despite my settings in Kaiser tweaks/Advance Config.

Thanks for the thoughts. I appreciate all of you input. This is exactly the first thing I did when I noticed the drain. I set my preferences to "CLose Programs When Tapping X". I also double-check with the "running programs" tab in the top, right corner of the Today screen. At least I feel good about trying the right things to help my situation.
I'm thankful for any and all input. I hopefully will find a solution soon.

Thanks so much for you input. Now... I'm using the email setup program that came with the ROM. I set up my POP 3 account (somehow it reverted to IMAP but still works) with SBCGlobal and all works well. but what I DON'T know is if this is PUSH mail. Not familiar with how it works exactly.
i would never use the GPS unless its pluged in...
In the car gps on, I leave plugged in
I also use gps today, cool little program too.

Listening to music via bluetooth and leaving gps on all day will kill the battery. 4 hours at best.
I charge at my desk and listen to bloototh music, (people think just an IT guy with bluetooth ear piece)
Charge in the car Listen to music, GPS and take calls.
I try to stay above 50% on battery if I can, just in case I want to flash a new rom when I get home.

If IT refers to the GPS being plugged in... Uh... it's integrated. But if you mean the DEVICE being plugged into a charger... that's not possible if I'm outside of the vehicle. And for my golfing program, carts don't have chargers (I usually walk anyways).
But there's definitely something going on that's eating my battery.....
I appreciate all of the comments thus far.
Hi maiahsdad,
It was me who was getting 70% at the end of a day, what can I say, not anymore... I don't know what the problem is - but i was using the same configuration (Leos V7 with included radio). last week the percentage was falling in front of my eyes... i didn't know what to do, flashed again and again different roms and radios, still no god results. I'm now on Leos v8 light with SPB Shell on top of it, but am not happy with my battery life AT ALL... 7% of battary gone in standby overnight - used to be 3%. the only thing is I have BT onn at all times.
looking for a solution....

Hi slovoflud, you could try to remove spb shell and see if it is eating up your battery. I used to install it but now no more and I noticed some improvement in battery life. The radio included is the best IMHO in terms of battery life.

are you talking about V7 or V8 ?
I'm using V7. I have not tried V8 yet because I'm waiting for V9 but I would think that V8 should perform the same.

I've found V7 & V8 to be refreshingly light on battery usage with the 1.58*** ROM that was found to work.

I ran some tests - which I have a hard time believing - on Push on/off and the Kaiser Tweak settings for a constant connection. The tests were run over three evenings (so I was sure I was not using the phone for calls or data sessions). I found that having push on, off or the Kaiser Tweak settings for disconnect after 1 minute or constant on made no difference. Obviously, if you get a bunch of email from the Push connection, that will make a difference but my intent was to check to see if the persistent data connection made a difference in battery life; it did not.
The reason I did this I found that the Kaiser Tweak setting for automatic disconnect prevents simultaneous data and voice connections in HSDPA mode; which is key benefit to using HSDPA, at least for me.
Like I stated; results I have a hard time buying but I have repeated the tests with the same outcome.
As a result, I just leave the Kaiser Tweak setting at constant data connection and turn Push Email on when I need it (usually during the work day when I am out of the office).

over there
I have to kind of disagree with the whole push email thing draining battery. Yes it makes sense but heres my scenario
I'm using Dutty's Diamond V1 ROM
Radio: 1.65.16.25
I'm using Windows Live for my Hotmail acct. which pushes my email
I have Blackberry Connect software from 3 other email accts. for my job
Always using H signal 3.5g speed
Bluetooth stays on even though I don't use it because I find that I save battery life when I keep it on.
Yesterday I charged my phone it was at 100 percent in the morning. Haven't charged it since and right now 3:00 pm eastern time my battery is at 64 % casual use. Which is by far the most pnenominal life I'd had. I'm going to see how long it'll last before it dies.

Battery Life Diminishes with Cooked ROMs

Hello all,
I was wondering if there are any other S710 users who have been experiencing battery issues with the HTC Vox.
For a while I was running Dr. Gonzo's Guava Rom and everything was great with it all except for the battery life. I didn't pay much attention to it, but it finally got on my nerves. It came to the point where I could only use the phone for around 14-16 hours under moderate use and wifi+bt OFF after a full charge.
Today, I flashed the VOX with fireburned CLEAN v1.2. and it seems to be the same. I don't recall having this issue with the Official ROM.
Battery issue? any ideas? I dont want to spend money on an extended battery if it is a software issue.
Much appreciated!
It seems same to me too. I flashed not less than 20 ROMs in my VOX's use of nine months and I found that my battery slowly got weakened and was going only for 14 15 hours without too much use. Practically I had to buy a fresh battery from www.megacapacity.com. It arrived yesterday and serving me about 1.5 days for normal use. It is 1100mah in place of 1050mah original but is of std size.
Opinion of other users invited.
Did not notice anything as such. My Vox is nearly 1 Year 4 months old. So I am not expecting much from it.
Because during my initial flashing, I never had any noticeable battery performance issues. I have flashed almost all ROMs of Dr. G's, a couple of fh's and 3 of fireburned's ROM, about to flash with the 4th
I've had my phone for approximately the same amount of time and I've only flashed it probably 4-5 times in total.
Perhaps I shall look into getting a new battery as well...I want to be able to use Wifi normally without losing the phone halfway through the day.

I think you may have a hardware issue (not sure though). When I am not travelling, my phones battery at the end of the day shows more or less 60% charge left. I use flexmail to check my mails every hour. If there is any mail worth reading, then I use i.e. to check mails. So I think you can consider it moderate GPRS usage, plus there are of course voice calls . Though I do not use wifi or BT.
If you plan to buy a new battery though, I think it will be better if you go for an extended battery.
I read in another topic that it's somehow related to the Radio version.

Parthabhatta, what were shipping charges to india? how much is the total cost? How much time does it take in delivery?
i am looking to buy a new one same 1100mAh.
Because im new with Vox in generally can someone tell me what should be aproximated battery life with vox? (NO wifi, NO bt, 1-2h/day using normal phone calling)
What could be normal battery life with TCPMP and movie divx 320x240 256kbit ?
Everyone seems to have great battery life, so I wouldn't be the person to tell you what the average battery life is.
I just tested out the battery life this morning. 100% charged and i turned on Wifi to use. 45 minutes later, my phone dies.
So I get less than an hour of power on Wifi. I don't think that seems like a battery problem. Using it normally, gives me at least 14-15 hours+ (no wifi/no bt).
Perhaps its a hardware bug? Software bug? Any input is appreciated.

Hi gwmnx!
The same problem i have to, my battery life is very poor , maxim 10- 12 hours(no wifi/no bt), without browsing internet or other else and battery dies.
I buy a new battery, and exact same problem with it, in maximum 14 hours is finished
I was in a service , and they verify my batterys, and they told me the batterys is very good both.
And probably the phone have a hardware issue , but they don't know to repare it because they don't have a electronic schematic of my phone
I tested 3 ROM's by now, but nothing is change, with every ROM, same problem.
I don't know what to do and what to say, i'm very disappointed
Excuse me for bad English , i don't speak very well!
Same issue i am facing here. My phone battery dies in 10-12 hours. Don't know if it happens due to lot of ROM upgrades everyday or using overclocking...
I am going to purchase a new battery soon. If that also works same, i will revert to original VOX 6.0 ROM. No overlcoking, no R&D, no research no development further because you need to compromise with hardware malfuntioning, damages etc against this kind of R&D.

I bought my battery for 15.5$. Shipping is free worldwide on all items. It reached me in 16 days. It is now giving me 1.5 to 2 days on fireburned 1.2 ROM.
For a change, you just change the homescreen from sliding to anything like windows default. And make normal usage. I'm dead sure you'll get better results even if you're in Rose ROM. I mean, you'll get better battery performance if you're not in sliding homescreen.
I'm using Fireburned's 1.2 version ROM.
Thanks

How does the sliding panel attribute to 45 minutes of wifi usage. I'm not even on the homescreen, just using the web browser?
I mean, I think it might be a definite reason since I only started noticing poor battery life after 6.1. With the original Vox WM6.0, I definitely had better battery life.
there are some roms that kills the battery life to around half or more. like gonzo's latest rose rom.

Great man! Rs.948 is still cheaper, HTC service centre rates are Rs1390.
What do you mean by Extended battery? Any difference from normal battery?
And what about 2250mAh battery, does it fit fine or looks odd?
2250 mAh is the extended battery. I didnot buy although it was comparatively cheaper because to me it will not only look odd but make the phone bulky and heavier too. But now i feel that 2250 would have been a better choice as i am an avid gprs user. Now think and buy- difference of only 2.5/3 USD.

Well, being in browser doesn't mean your homescreen is off. Sliding panel itself consumes lots of battery. Just change your homescreen from settings to something else not related to sliding panel or Rose Homescreen. For a change just change it back to windows default. let it be changed for a day (You won't loose anything). I strongly believe there would be some difference in battery consumption and consumption will be lesser.
Thanks
Extended Battery really looks too odd. it looks like you've added another battery

how long does your battery last

first thread.
im using energy rom, the battery dies in a day.
anything i can do to make it last longer?
thanks in advance.
dim your brightness
there are lots of things you can do, dim the brightness is one (turn off automatic adjustment of the brightness too, so it stays dim)
make sure any pop3 email isnt checking too often
turn off push mail
there are some hardware disable cabs i used on mine, i dont remember the link but they are from ninjaduck on ppcgeeks
use NRG's service disable cabs to turn off background services you dont need
although even after all this mine still only lasts about a day, but its ok for me since it docks on a charger every night
one more thing to keep in mind, CDMA phones will always have shorter battery life than their GSM counterparts, since CDMA phones have to keep in constant contact with the tower (so the radio is always in use)
I've used to rum sprint stock rom and my battery lasted me only a day if even that. But now, I'm running my own clean and simple 6.5 no manilla rom and my battery last last like 3 days.
Definitly backlight adjustments will help. Also there is a setting under the WIFI, for Performance which made some diference on mine. The big thing is to make sure: Bluetooth is off when not in use, because it'll search non stop, same thing with WIFI, keep it off, when not in use. And the big thing I did, I switched my email, to check every 2hrs, rather than on demand. I went from 4-6hrs to an easy 10hrs. Hope something helps!
Also, when I'm using apps like Trapster, or a radio streamer, you obviosly need to keep the "system" on, which includes your screen, And when I started using a Screen Off App, I noticed a pretty big diference.

I've used to rum sprint stock rom and my battery lasted me only a day if even that. But now, I'm running my own clean and simple 6.5 no manilla rom and my battery last last like 3 days.

I got this phone from someone, and it has manilla of some sort, what kind of rom do you have? where did you get it from?
Thanks
I built it myself using Calkulins kitchen. Is your TP2 HSPL unlocked? If so, I may be able to upload it for you so you can download it, PM me
Since OC'ing my device, I have been getting 2-3 days per charge using the stock Verizon MR2 release. Others who have OC'd have noticed the same thing. Check the OC threads both here (where it all starts) and on PPCGeeks (where we talk about what we find on XDA).
Stock Sprint ROM. Seidio 3500MAH Battery. 3G always on. Surf over 3 hours a day, make quite a few calls, signal in both my work location and home are not that great, so phone looks for a signal a lot, and Stream video from time to time. Doing this, the battery still lasts about 8 to 10 hours. My wifes phone has a stock battery and lasts about 9 hours without doing all of what I do on mine. Her battery sometimes is down to 10% or less. Mine never gets under 25%. If I am streaming from my SlingBox, I can get about 3.75Hours out of my battery.
Improved Battery Life!

Similar experience for me. After OC'ing my stock 6.5 MR2 VzW TP2 with OCT v1.5, turning off push email and push internet, etc., I can get 2 days most of the time.

[Q] Best ROM for battery

Hi all,
I have a few questions about the great ROMs posted on this forum:
1. does WM 6.5 consume more battery than WM 6.1?
2. what ROM do you find to be the best for battery life?
Thanks
well,possibly energy

As long as you remember this little tidbit:
• Backlight is set to high. You might want to change that.
Then maybe you can get a little bit better battery life on the phone.
Nah.. my ROM is not best for battery. It's built for speed...
However you can run it and expect a day out of it. Like other users suggest, turn down the backlight, turn off 3G and don't sync too much (do not use data too much in general) and you'll have plenty of battery life.
p.s. Let's not forget the batteries in our phones are a couple years old too now, so you definitely wont get the same battery life you were getting when you bought the phone
Right mate, Sense uses a lot of battery so use the standard windows mobile home screen, Disable 3G unless our using the Internet same as Data Connection. I only lost 12% battery today and i was playing a bit of Boing as well installed a few apps and listened to music (only like 3-4 songs) So yeah .....

No offence, but concerning battery life, try anything BUT Energy ROMs. Even though NRG developer claims there are no reasons for it, these ROMs suck your battery dry in a very short time (a day or so). Especially CHT 2.0 versions, besides they are pretty and fast. Very poor battery life was the reason I had to switch from NRG to stock ROM only 2 days ago.
you mean stock htc rom or a stock-like wm 6.5 rom?

Well it depends also of your use voice and data use. Personnaly, I have 2 full working days with Exquisite 4.20 (Radio 1.17.25.09 & Ril 1.15.25.14), Active Sync push @15min, and mainly a mail and web usage (so it's mainly Opera 9.7 that lays in RAM). I consider this as pretty good, but if you have an extensive use of Music, or Video over voice and data, no miracles are possible whatever the rom you use.
As far as I remember, a stock HTC rom did not gave more stamina, but cooked stock 6.5 will do. Sense or TF3D are not neutral for battery at all.
NRGZ don't be so shy...
I use EnergyROM and it can go 2 whole days with good amount of usage before it needs a recharge. And 3-4 if I do not use so much, or just answer calls and send txts.
Anyways, great ROMS! And god thank you that you still update for us Raphael users!

My experiences concern one but latest 21680 ROM. I hope in 21681 something was done with the poorest energy management I had ever seen. My phone couldn't last one whole day (sic!), so I got rid of that ROM and now battery lasts for 2-3 days, as always. Besides, I like NRG stuff very much and consider this a single stumble on a way to perfectness.
