Purchuase advice - HTC Vox

Hey,
I am in desperate need for a new cell phone, as my old HTC wizard died.
I am looking for a phone that can also support GPS software, such at TomTom or iGo. It was no problem running iGo or TomTom on the wizard. The Vox seems to have the same processor so, it should run fine.
My only concern is the lack of the touch screen. Will this be a big problem?
How it the lack of a touchscreen with daily WM6 operations. I am actually looking for a device that does not have a touchscreen, but I think WM is designed to have a touchscreen.
Also can you recommend a place where you purchased your device?
Please give me any comments you may have.
Thanks,

E-Ten G500 What do you think

Okay I THINK this isn't an HTC device but I wanted to know if anyone has looked into it.
I really like the built-in GPRS and Bluetooth 2.0
I do know that it doesn't have WIFI but on my PDA2K I don't really even use the wifi so it's not a big loss for me.
I also wanted to know if anyone knew of a website like this for that device, I really like the way people help here and would hate to not have a place to go like this if I did buy the G500.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated

I just bought 50, for a specific purpose, but first impressions are:
rugged
stable
small
but
average battery life using GPS
no sodding instruction manual
FM radio promised but not yet released
No Keyboard
No WiFi
i haven't tried to install any GPS software yet, but i can confirm the hardware works virtually underwater, as we use it to track drivers as well as mobile data.
We're paying £272 plus VAT, and for our purposes it's great - which doesn't involve wifi or keyboard....
if the battery life was better i'd be buying 100 more
I'd suggest also thinking about the Mio A701.
I think it does everything the G500 does but is smaller. I went for it over the G500 mainly because of it's size. And also because it takes full size SD cards
Hi mach1!
There is a forum for ETEN owners:
http://www.eten-users.net
One thing you should consider is that this device uses mini-sd so there is no SDIO support, thus no way to add WiFi if you decide you need it.
Also no EDGE, HSCSD or 3G so forget about dissent internet access.
Any way, you should check out http://www.gsmarena.com. They got info on phones (PDA / Smartphones) from all leading companies including ETEN, all arranged nicely with full specs and user ratings and comments.
No prices though...

We have 10 of the a701 and 5 a700 yes thay are a bit smaller but
thay are not as stable as the G500 we use ours for personal tracking etc
and have not had any problems with then at all
and thats with tomtom and our own GPS tracking software.
hope this helps
bought a mio a701 and to be honest i really like it and i think it'll go a long way before i replace her. tried out the gps navigation using mapking (in bangkok) and i sure didn't get lost. the voice nav told me where to go and such and from there all went fine. i didn't get the eten because of the mini-sd; all of my accessories are using sd card (example; my digicam). i also like the mio because of the looks and the size. i'm not a fan of wifi nor do like having a keyboard so it works fine for me. mio will be releasing a rom sometime later on and that will support push email AND a2dp (for stereo bluetooth function). since i use an itech clip s headset it's just a matter of waiting until the new rom is released. when i listen to the tunez i can hook up my bluecon bt adaptor which allows me to listen wirelessly.
cheers
A701 GPS
Were currently testing both the A70 and G500. Has anybody seriously tested the 'location call' software on the A701?
In the tests we have performed the GPS position is incorrect. In a comparison between TomTom and Visual GPSCE the position do differ. I am assuming there is an offset or algorithm which computes the correct location.
What i'm looking for is a program which does the same thing as location call, i.e. send your gps position by sms, but actualy send the correct gps position.
Has anybody come across one?
Cheers
Paul
E-TEN G500 bought instead Qtek 2020i (waiting for Qtek S310)
Hi,
I changed devices cause i wanted integrated gps. Sometimes you're in your car and the bluetooth receiver is at home (for safety of stealing), and sometimes pairing bluetooth takes a while.
Actually i'm waiting for the HTC Trinity (Qtek G200) or Qtek S310.
Both devices will be with GPS & WIFI inclusive.
The Qtek S310 looks very spacy and will be released end of 2006 (hopefully).
At the moment I also have an all-in, the E-TEN G500 with SPECTEC MINI WIFI-SDIO CARD. I like the smooth blue colourlines / size / battery and functions.
I updated the rom to the 0097 and now can receive FM radio & TMC (Traffic messaging control) which gives you information about busy traffic and leads you away from it. This only works when you connect the wired headset as antenna, but no problem.
Now that it's also become an all in, i'm doubting to buy the new upcomming Qteks, I like this E-TEN very much, smooth look, compact, processor very good, and carkit included in package!
I never doubted about the Mio A701, the E-TEN is a much cooler device. Only the sound quality & speaker is less, but I love this device!

Using Raphael as a GPS module

Hello Everybody and thanks in advance,
after i have reached satisfaction with tweaking my HTC TP excluding the battery that runs faster than i do,
I'm now eager to know whether it is possible to use my HTC touch pro as a GPS module and use a PC pc software on my laptop to connect to the phone over cable or preferably bluetooth and start navigation on a larger screen and so...
Thanks

I-Mate JAQ4?

I bought a I-MATE JAQ4 from a software developer about 8 months ago. I guess this model never went into production, and the phone is a prototype. I-MATE quit the JAQ line. Oh well.
Anyway, anybody know what alternative OS builds I can install on this thing? I am guessing it is not too much different than the JAQ3, it just has WM6 on it.
Any insightful information about this device would be appreciated.
Thanks.
*bump*.....
Imate Jaq4
I also have a the Imate JAQ4 (which is a prototype) - I have been in touch with Imate (via their site) apparently the model is due for release anytime now in this country.
Try checking out the site for suitable downloads.
The only problem I have now encountered is finding a replacement battery - I had to do a hard reset on my unit and since then the battery wont charge (unless any one out there knows a way to jump start the battery back to life).
Everywhere I have tried that advertise compatable batteries do not seem to carry any stock.
I am not sure what is going on with the I-Mate JAQ4, however...
Isn't the same as the Pharos Traveler M619 (http://www.pharosgps.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=001%5FPTL619%5F7%2E9&cat=136 )? I got one, pretty good, but slow processor and low memory (very similar to the Dash, at least it seems to me, but with bigger screen, touch screen and gps, )
There currently not much support in the way of firmware upgrades, but they did release version 6.1 a while back.
GPS refuse SD CARD ,WHY?
my configuration: 2G MICRO SD WITH ADAPTER
when i launch GPS , sd disappear and can't be accessed. i have to plug out and insert again.
why?
there is some patch for this bug .
thanks

I asked the same question the other day and this is the reply I got.............
"The extra 8GB is nice but not essential, and there is always the miniSD for expansion.
In some ways the X7510 is a retrograde step- the lack of a joystick is a total PITA as there is no way to manually navigate some programs without executing a screen click.
The keyboard is a big improvement, but TouchPal is so good that I very rarely use the physical keyboard. The X7500 ROMs by Michy et all are every bit as good as the X7510 ROMs- no surprise I suppose as the hardware is identical in most respects"
I dont have a X7510 myself, I have a X7500. hope this helps
Jay
I wrote the above comments and have had both the X7500 and X7510.
IF my X7500 had not been a little battered, and IF O2 had not offered me an XDA Flint FOC, I would not have considered the update a worthwhile investment.
From a hardware perspective they are almost identical apart from the keyboard and the 16GB Flash Disk. There is no difference in battery life so i suspect the X7500's microdrive is just as power efficient as the flash drive.
The lack of physical navigation is a real problem sometimes, especially as the stock HTC and O2 ROMs do not have the 'finger friendly' enhancements of later WM6.1 builds.
If buying from scratch, the the X7510 can be had for quite reasonable prices now!
Waiting with anticipation for Toth :]
For some strange, yet unexplained, reason, the 7510 IS faster when we use GIS-map navigation software (MapInfo Mobile). I havent been able to figure out why, but it is. Even with michys clean 6.1 rom on 7500, the map-scrolling is faster on the stock (htc) 7510 rom.
We've been testing this quite thouroughly and... the 7510 is faster, same softwareversion used.
Since there are, afaik, no drivers that enables/accesses the gfxchip on the 7510 either, myself and some techs at mapinfo havent been able to crack this one yet.
I have X7500 and X7510.
For me the main difference is 16GB Flash Drive. Most of you here ignore this, but I have a very good reason to prefer X7510, although lack of joystick is obvious disadvantage.
Here is my point: 16GB Flash Drive starts very early when you reboot your device. This lets you install almost all software on Flash disk, instead of main memory. More, it consumes less power then 8Gb hard disk in X7500.
Practically most of my software is installed on Flash Disk, which means it is constantly in use, which again means, it constantly consumes its share of power. This does not change that I am able to use my device pretty hard for 2 days without recharging.
I could use my X7500 for 2 days as well, but in that device non of software was on Hard disk. All of it was on main memory or on SD. However, SD does not start as early in the boot process as flash disk in X7510, which means, I could not install any software on SD, which was going to initiate services, while I can do it on FLASH disk in X7510.
That left my 8GB HD in X7500 only for storage of media, which was not so economic. Whenever I was showing my films or photos, I could see how fast the power gauge goes down.
This is enough to make me use my X7510, although it does not have such nice toy as joystick.
does both have g sensor or they doesnot

[Q] GPS for Samsung Scala (OmniaPRO B7330)

I've recently acquired this smartphone, but was left disappointed when I realized it had no GPS software with it. What should I put on it, seeing as how it doesn't have touchscreen and quite a small screen resolution. GPS isn't my strongest side, so I'd like an advice on which software I should install on it.
I've tried Garmin (multiple versions) and iGO 8 so far, nothing seemed to work, even though I found that IGO 8 should work on 320x320 device, but still it keeps coming up with some error.
Surely there are other B7330 users out there who had same problems as I?
Come on guys, you're my last hope.
