rom suggestions? issues with faria crossbow - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

hey all, was looking for some suggestions on a rom, i'm not too comfortable with flashing and reflashing till i get what i'm looking for out of my own cooked rom (read: dont have that much time to kill), so i'm looking for something someone's hacked together that'll offer similar functionality to the "faria crossbow" rom.
since installing this rom i've had some issues, nothing huge, but definitely irritating, one of which being that zoom doesn't work on images, and they display really small when receiving mms from, well, anyone... the other of which is when i send multi-sms messages, my phone reports they've been sent, however whoever i send them to never receives them. i'm forced to send sms messages in 160 character or less blocks to make sure they're received... there are a few other quirks here and there, but nothing that really stands out. the sms issue is probably the one that irks me the most out of everything.
sooo, anyone have any suggestions? something stable, fast, not too fat, and completely functional? i'd appreciate any input. thanks!

Sorry my friend, this ROM probably won't be supported anymore... (at least by me...)

Looking to upgrade my phone. Help appreciated

Aight,
So I currently have the HTC Tilt, and although it is a good phone, it is sometimes on the slow side, so I am looking around for a brand new phone (or upcoming in near future) that has the power to handle it self without problems.
I am a AT&T user, and I do not want to change. It needs to have Full QWERTY keyboard (reason why I gave up on the iPhone/Nexus One), and be a sliding phone. Otherwise than that, I don't really care much else as long as it can make phone calls, txt (SMS/MMS) and here and there browse the web.
So anyone know of a powerhouse phone currently out or coming out in near future?
Thank ahead, truly appreciated if you can help me out.

I have htc hd2 i like it but i want to update the roms but it gives me errors that the updater failed due to loss of connection with the phone, please help me in need these roms. thank you

160 Character Limit for HTC Arrive

Hello Everyone,
I just got the Arrive and I'm loving it, but something weird is happening. For some reason, when I'm writing a txt, it just flat out stops at 160 characters and doesn't continue the message with an auto-split.
I called into Sprint, HTC, and Windows Phone support and they all think" woah, that's weird" and the majority of tech support didn't even know it had launched already. I also read the manual from Sprint, HTC, and from Microsoft stating that 160+ characters will be auto-split.
Since the phone is so new, as well as NoDo and such, I have not seen anything about this issue and it's driving me mad. My only theory is that for some unknown reason Microsoft limited the txt messaging in CDMA WP7 to 160 because CDMA doesn't handle 160+ characters well. If this is the case, WTF?!
I know there are very few of you who have an Arrive, but anybody have this same problem? Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?
The only workaround I have is sending the message incomplete and continuing it with another (and that makes me feel like I'm using my old Nokia with Snake. I haven't had a phone that couldn't handle more than 160 characters before)
Mine does the same thing, while it is a little annoying until it get resolved sending it parts is the only work around.
Well that's lame.
Why does it seem like Microsoft is just dropping the ball with the basics on Windows Phone 7? I love the OS to pieces and I really like the phone, but these little nuances (along with simple things like changing colors, custom ringtones, group contacts, etc) are just plain unacceptable.
Also, I noticed something about the Arrive.
The OS version is 7.0.7389.0
but the NoDo being pushed today is 7.0.7390.0
That 0.0.0001.0 Might be all the difference, at least I hope so. It means a posibility of a tiny update
I wouldn't count on any updates in the forseeable future. And FWIW the manual for the phone says that it will break up messages longer than 160 characters, so this definitely sounds like a bug.

I just learned this might be unique only to the Arrive
It is, I have the arrive and buddy has focus with nodo, his splits texts fine.

It must be all Arrives, because mine does the same thing. It's very annoying when you're used to having your texts auto-split. My Touch Pro 2 split text messages just fine, so I see no reason that it should be a problem with the Arrive. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

My Arrive does the same thing. Of course, I didn't read the manual, so I wasn't aware that it was supposed to work differently (but had expected it to since even my WM5.0 Cingular 8125 did it).
And I've already heard that the .0001 isn't significant in terms of build number. CDMA vs GSM difference only.
Its an issue with Microsoft not implementing proper code for CDMA text splitting its annoying but they'll fix it.
Hi, I am an employee of Sprint. The HTC Arrive was intended to allow users to exceed 160 characters by automatically creating a new message after 160 characters is exceeded. This is explained on pg. 83 of the HTC Arrive User Guide. Currently the device will not allow users to exceed the 160 character limit. This has been recognized as a known issue and Sprint has asked Microsoft to address this issue in a future update.
Looks like it wasn't fixed in Mango. At least not for me
...
I am so tempted to ditch my Arrive right *now*. Sprint/HTC has been notified many times over about this issue. They had time to fix it. There is no excuse for this.
EDIT: Anyone know if Verizon HTC Trophy owners are having the same limit? I'm hearing *nothing* from that sector.

It wasn't. This was the single thing I was most looking forward to. If they didn't update it with Mango, I suspect it will never be fixed.
I really hope that Sprint releases a new device, as I am ready a Windows Phone variant of the Galaxy SII.
Got the update notification. Updated, and sure enough, that limit is still there.
I don't think any words can sum up how much rage I am feeling right now. I really just want to throw caution to the wind and grab a Photon 4G.
To note: If this limit was stated clearly in the manual, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It is the fact that this is a feature that is SUPPOSED TO EXIST, but does not.
I son't understand why you're all raging of such a simple thing, I rarely need to write more than 160 chars in an SMS (a 1 minute call would be cheaper for me in that case ), but yeah it's apparently an Arrive-only bug because I don't have it in my HTC 7 Pro.

Correct...last we knew it was a Sprint firmware issue as you can now type more than 160 chars but the phone won't send it. I haven't been over to BUZZ in a while but try seeing if the Buzz About Wireless people are talking about it since that's Sprint offical forum
The 7 Pro won't have an issue because it's GSM, and GSM can support it no problem.
Only the 7 Pro (US Cellular) and Arrive will have this issue.
And I regularly send messages that get close to or go over 160 characters, and rarely make phone calls. So for me, this is a pretty big deal.
EDIT: Got one person saying this isn't an issue on the CDMA Trophy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280146
If this is the case, it's HTC/Sprint's problem, not Microsoft's.
EDIT: Got first-hand confirmation that this is now HTC/Sprint's problem:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/anticitizen/6193110593/
That is a CDMA Trophy, doing a messaging split. I sent it to myself, and sure enough, it came through as two messages, but it did come through.
Btw, bump, just in case no one saw my edits. (Since they're a tad significant)
Yet another edit: Reached out to HTC over this. Gist of the response from them: We have no updates coming to fix any of the issues with the Arrive.
Going to give this one last bump, because seriously, this problem is really, really irritating.
I have some communication with HTC, but all I'm getting from them is "We'll notify you when we have more information!" Listen, I don't want more information. I just want to know if some kind of fix is being worked on. Or if they're going to get around to it. It's getting infuriating to wait on this.

[Q] Pure Software Vs. Latest specs

I'm curious what you guys think. Since I am a Sprint customer and plan on getting a new phone soon, I am debating between the Nexus S and Evo 3D. I know that since the nexus is a google phone, it will receive updates first, but I am concerned about the update life-cycle of the phone since it is single core, whereas the Evo 3D, while it does have Sense, has a dual-core. So it seems like it would have a longer life-cycle (seeing as more and more high-end phones are using dual-core processors now).
I'm mainly concerned about the life-cycle because the only way I can afford either phone is by locking myself into another 2-yr contract, so I want whichever phone I choose to last as long as possible without becoming outdated.
My advice would be just get a phone you know you'll be happy with and learn how to root your phone. If your phone is rooted I guarantee you wont want to use your phone on anything else but a custom ROM. For example,I've got an x10,users that aren't rooted have been on 2.1 since its release and are only going to get 2.3 (after much protest) 3rd or 4th quarter this year, but guess what,2.3 has been out for months from xda developers and its pretty stable for daily use. I've always liked the x10,its got great specs even 9 months after release and I'm happy with the software on it. All that counts is that you're happy with the look and performance of your device.

Thanks so much for your response, I've just started learning about rooting and flashing custom roms and your advise was extremely helpful.
I do have a question on this subject you might be able to answer as well then. My friend has an Incredible which he pretty much flashes roms onto on a daily basis. He said though that he cannot receive texts now unless he sends a text to that person first. Is this true for whenever someone flashes a rom or did he just do something stupid, cause I don't think I will flash roms if people can't contact me unless I text them first, since I receive lots of texts I want to make sure that I don't lose any from flashing roms.
Thanks again for your help. Since I am still using the original touch pro, I'm pretty sure that whatever phone I choose will be an improvement.

That would just be something he messed up with, it would be very unlikely that you would have that problem. If you did it could be fixed I'm sure.

[Q] Photo Not Sent

Has anyone experienced flashing a new rom only to find out you cannot send or receive photos? This has happened on several occasions. What sucks is that the rom is normally pretty good, quick, fast and in a hurry...lol but no MMS! I also wipe everything clean as well as making a nandroid back up. I even browse through the FAQs and comments to make sure. Could I still be doing something wrong?! If so please feel free to drop knowledge on the issue. Thanks and happy rooting!

[Q] Workaround for MMS problems?

Hello all,
So a brief intro before i delve into the slight inconvenience I'm experiencing. I came from an HTC HD2 running a custom MIUI rom found here on XDA. It worked fantastically until one day it decided to commit suicide via jumping out of my pocket and falling to the floor while I was on a ladder. Anyways, using that phone when I wanted to send a mms I could select the picture I wanted to send, hit send, and it would switch my data on, send the photo and then turn the data off and when receiving, it would do the same.
Fast forward to now, I bought this wonderful Infuse with it's huge screen and it's stock android and I was all set and excited until I tried sending/receiving picture messages. In order to do so, I have to manually turn on my data every time I want to do either. It's a stock official Gingerbread build via kies and the Samsung website and I'm only running a custom launcher through sslauncher. I've tried go sms pro and handcent sms and it's the same issue.
Is this just an issue with the phone itself? Gingerbread? Will a custom ROM fix the problem or is there another work around?
Thank for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

That's just the way it is...been that way on every rom I've tried...but it probably is possible to modify the system files and what not to auto turn the data on for mms ...something I would not be able to do

Thanks for the response.
I've noticed also every one I send, the data usage counter im using with zdbox keeps going down. It's a very small amount, .04 mb per picture, or something but if im paying for unlimited messaging that is supposed to include picture messages, why is that counting towards data usage? It's like I can receive the picture but in order to see it I have to use data to download it. kind of sucks
quick thing actually, just talked to an at&t rep and she said while you have to have the data option enable to send/receive, it shouldn't count toward the data usage plan. good news i guess :|
Why not turn it on and leave it on? You need data to get an mms. Its not infuse specific, rom specific, that's the way it is

Well I don't need it on all the time, so why drain the battery? I understand you need data to send/recieve mms, what I don't understand is why do I have to go into the settings menu to turn it on if I want to send/recieve every single time (yes I know there are apps and widgets, but that's not the point). Dumbphones could do this without the user having to go through menus to turn on data everytime a picture message comes through, why do I have to with a more advanced smartphone?
In a MIUI rom I had with my old HD2, I didn't have to do this. That's why I was asking.

Why cant i start my car by looking at it. Why do i need a key?!?! Use a widget, not the point? You want a custom rom? You're complaing cause you don't have a rom YOUR way. That's the way it is. If you're THAT paranoid about battery life tell people not to send you mms or maybe Id rethink the switching from a dumb phone to a smart phone.
Suggestions:
1. Suck it up
2. Make you're own rom
3. Use a widget for its intended purpose
4. Get an iphone, use iMessage on wifi

The point is if you make something thats more advanced, more user intuitive and user friendly, why go back and make things more complicated thus being less user friendly than before? I was merely asking a question if there was something I wasn't seeing, or a setting I hadn't enabled yet, or something I was just merely missing because I only just got the phone. I know of other smartphones that have this capability, maybe it's a Samsung thing because the two HTC phones that my parents own don't have this issue. I said it was more of a minor inconvenience than a real problem, but nonetheless it's still there.

Private message material if I've ever seen it.
If I came on here adamant about "Well, I want to make things more difficult" "My old Nokia flip phone did this why doesn't this?!" And basically complaining when the reason for my problem was my stubbornness, the lovely folks here would be the same way!
Really though I think its an attitude that I get used to having at XDA. The infuse section isn't bad but A LOT of the people here are rude, ignorant deuchebags and would much rather ***** at you for asking a question than answer it and be done.
