I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Are you moving there or just visiting? If you're moving there and you get a new carrier, then they'll tell you what your settings are. If not, then you keep your settings as-is.

im just visiting there for 20 days...

then you need a visiting licensing pack from Microsoft
and a real camera for photos
just jocking...

in europe
hello,
Welcome in europe, i live in france and i put faria rom ( OS 5.2.318 built 15341 ) since he made it. i just put 2.19.11 radio rom into my phone, thi is the more stable version with my provider ( SFR ) . Many thank to faria for this rom.

Since you will be there for 20 days, you may want to look at getting a 1 month plan with a carrier for where you will be (but if you are traveling all over this may not be a good option). Basically, you just need a GSM card for a local carrier if you can come up with that. Int'l Roaming charges will kill you if you aren't careful. YOU may want to put the NoData cab on your phone so that you can turn off GPRS access to avoid that too.
Check out http://www.fring.com. Its free and it works on teh Wizard. Will allow you to do Skype, GoogleTalk, and more from your phone, so you could go into an internet cafe and tap into their WiFi and then make VoIP calls that way (get you some SkypeOut credits or similar and it will be a lot cheaper I would think).
Good luck and enjoy!

I live in the UK and i used the radio 2.61 and it wasnt great it drained my battery more than the older radio i had m current using 2.25 and its fine. Also if you could get one of these worldwide sim http://www.mobalrental.com/gsm/sim.asp not sure if there any good though.

Living in Holland, using the Consolidated 318 ROM with GSM 2.19 UK. No problems in other countries I went to. So come on and enjoy the real continent !!!

T-Mobile Rom or Cingular Rom??

i may sound stupid but i was wondering...
i am using T-Mobiles 2.26 Rom and tmobile has horrible reception @ my work and house i was justing wondering i flash my phone with a cingular rom and than to flash to any other rom like XDA M63 will i have any better reception??? and if so does anyone know where i can download the latest and best cingular rom??
You can find the latest OFFICIAL Cingular ROM on HTC's website. However, you will need to unlock your phone (if it isn't already) in order to flash another Carrier's ROM.
You might just want to try some different radios on the phone and check your reception before flashing a whole different ROM, though. Those can be found in the ftp section.
but in theory would it work?? i dnt want to have to flash me fone for no reason.. u know?? would i be able to use my tmobile service with cingular reception??

I believe what you WANT to be asking is can I flash a cingular RADIO only rom so I can get better reception while using my tmobile rom or XM6R3...the answer is yes..radio rom's are not provider dependent.
I don't think you'd want to run an actual cingular rom on your phone and then use it with tmobile...I suppose you could but you'd have to manually configure your gprs...mms etc.
mfrazzz explains the flashing process in his first post pretty well for XM6r3 but to recap. Flash Tmobile 2.26...flash whatever radio only rom you want..then flash XM6R3.

Just to clarify, you can flash the Radio after you have installed a custom rom like XM6r3 (you don't have to do it in that exact order). I've changed radios numerous times without reflashing the entire rom with no problems (as long as its a radio only rom).
just one more thing.. where can i find cingular radio only roms?? and is there anywhere i can look to see the differnece??

You can find several radio only rom's in mfrazzz's first post (notice how I keep pointing you back to that OVER and OVER?)...you can do a search on XDA to find the difference's in the various rom's but most of the results will be suibjective depending on carrier (tmobile, cingular) and location..your best bet is to try them and see which one works best in your particular situation.
hey, i got a question, where i work i get no reception but a friend with tmobile has full reception, he has a wing on wm6 and i have a hermes. is there anyway to get into the tmobile reception while im at work? like a progrtam?
Why don't you go and ask him what radio rom he's using.
It should show up in the 'device information' area of your settings folder.

Lets not forget that tower location for each carrier will play a big part in how good your signal is. Where you work there may be a T-Mo tower fairly close by giving your friend a great signal but on the edge of the coverage area for your carrier which is why you have no reception. You can change radio roms all day long and maybe see a little improvement, but it won't put you onto the T-Mo network (unless you can configure your phone to roam on the T-Mo network). I've got the reverse situation where I work; T-Mo gets no signal but US Cellular and Verizon both get decent strength.

T Mobile UK

Which ROM(s) are best in the UK? I've noticed HSDPA has been rolled out everywhere in my local area (Wimbledon).
Is dutty's the one to try out first?
Also which radio is best for the UK / South East?
Thanks
i think you are looking for best reception. Rom and radio are dependent with each other. If you have a radio, then you must have a compatible rom and vice versa. There are way too many radios out there and what one person says is ones preference due to GPS, reception in their home/work, and battery life. I suggest choosing one and testing out yourself since there is no clear winner in what radio works best in any area.
Thanks for that, hopefully some of the UK members will post up which ones work well
Cheers,
Andy
i think u should just try it out for yourself.
Different people have different opinions!
IMHO, I haven't noticed much difference. I am currently using MobileVista 1.3 which comes with the latest ATT radio I think and that works fine here in Birmingham.

Apparently 1.64.08.21 is suggested for UK, personally I cannot tell as I havent installed the new radio yet.
However I am chasing up T-Mobile with regards to the Windows Mobile 6.1 update it will be interested as to what they will say about with their radio rom.
Personally I find all WM 6.0 roms faster than the 6.1 roms. My favourite is Q-mobile 1.2 with radio 1.27.12.17. It's fast, stable, not too bloated, works with calls, hands free, music and GPS and all combinations.
I use it with UK Vodafone and UK O2 contracts, mostly in the South of England, but also no problems in China, Malaysia, Brazil, Mexico, USA and most of East and West Europe.

Telstra TP2 questions

Hey guys,
I recently got a Telstra TP2 on a new contract, but I can't stand what they've done to the ROM. For those who don't know, Telstra have added 4 extra tabs on TF3D (downloads, telstra applications, tv, news and sport) which can't be removed or turned off, and they've put 12 locked (unremovable) program shortcuts on the start menu.
As I'm in a rural area, I need the 850 band the Telstra version of the phone supplies, and I'm worried that flashing a new cooked rom will lose this functionality (I'm very new to this). As it is, the shipped version of the Telstra rom isn't found on this site through the wiki (version 1.19.841.3 (51489) wwe), so I'm scared that I'll lose it forever and won't be able to put it back on if something goes squirly.
Is there anyway I can get around this besides flashing a cooked rom, and possibly losing the shipped rom forever?
Also, have any other telstra users been able to use HDWall on the phone to replace the crappy blue telstra background throughout the device?
Many thanks,
Tim
Welcome to forums
Have a look on Rhodium ROM development and choose another ROM!
Good luck,
Thanks for the welcome
I've had a look around, making some heads and tails of it, but I really need to know if I'm going to lose my 850 band with Telstra if I flash another cooked rom without all this Telstra garbage on it.
No you wont
850 is a hardware stuff related and you cant change it with any ROM, so you can install
Just have a deep read on the how to section in rhodium rom development
Enjoy,
Hi there, me again.
I was at the Windows 7/Windows Phone pre-launch in Melbourne on Tuesday, and picked the brains of the Microsoft employees manning the Windows Phone booth showing off Winmo 6.5 on the TP2 and D2. One of the first things I was asked during the conversation was if I had already flashed 6.5 on my phone, which I was surprised about. I mentioned my reservations about losing the 850mhz band with Telstra NextG, and the employee told me that the support for the band is built into Telstra's crappy ROM, and would be lost if flashed with anything else.
Are they yanking my chain or what?
I would like to know this too.
I`ve changed my ROM twice, saved my original one.. and I`ve finally encountered a connectivity issue...
Perhaps it`s my using a Telstra, Unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with an Athine ROM (though it really doesn`t make any difference what ROM I use... Maybe) on my Rogers BlackBerry Internet plan.
But I`ve used the Sony Ericsson Xperia on it and a few weeks prior to this date, have had no problem surfing the internet.
It MAY be the fact that Rogers is having problems with their network in downtown Toronto, so I`m hoping it`s not my TP2...
In any case, I`m using HDWalls on my phone.. but I`m just (un)installing the individual walls as I go along.
There`s something wrong with my computer that I have to fix because I cannot install the items necessary to use HDsWalls on the phone, and on the computer.
But so far, it`s been the best.
Although, I just have to say.. if you don`t have anything like "background for all" sort of cab files on the phone, I believe;
1) The phone runs faster
2) The background quality is crisper/better
Took me 2 weeks for me to get my Telstra Touch Pro 2 from Australia to Canada, and it was worth it.
I BELIEVE just changing the ROM will do nothing to the radio.
Moving into radio talk, I was wondering if I updated my Telstra phone with the latest AT&T radio build, because the hardware is for 850mhz and so is the build...
Will it enhance my connectivity?
Does anyone have any expertise on this and help shed some light?

Question for WM6.5 users on Vodafone UK

Which radio version do you find gives you the best coverage. I am currently using 1.71.09.01 and I am finding that unless I am near a decent sized population centre or a motorway I lose signal.
I have just switched from Orange to Vodafone and don't remember losing signal completely as much as I am now so I am assuming that maybe Vodafone works better with another radio version. Yes I could spend a while testing different radios but the areas that I lose signal completely I do not go to daily and it would take a few months to properly test all 1.65 and 1.7x radios, so I thought I would ask the community because I figure I can't be the only UK Vodafone customer using a WM6.5 ROM...
I am primarily interested in network coverage, then battery life and lastly GPS locktime (as I use a Bluetooth GPS unit instead of the onboard)
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Check the The Ultimate Radio Thread for other users on network, or look @ peoples sigs on same network, the easiest way is to flash and find the best as so many variables involved.
On that note not ROM Development thread closed.

What radio to use

Hiya peeps well i am new at this so am not a out blown expert i did a lot of research and i could not find some answer to some wanted question on radio and stuff like that now where i should start
ok i had my treo 750 to att 2.25 and wm 6.1 and i wanted it unbranded to 2.27 so i followed the instruction and i tried to do the radio up date using cheetah but i most have did something not right, for this part i got one question
using a sim card in the network setting for band should it work on auto or its normal that i need to specified what band am using? or i did something to my radio? (and not talking what tower it should connect to that automatic am talking between gsm and umts since am on telus that uses bell/telus shared tower that on UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900 network code of 302880 since i did that at lease it said the right provider and its no longer disconnecting me or saying no service)
if i update my radio should i use from this site?
www crc.id.au/files/xda/Radio_Roms
if yes what version that is safely work with unbranded 2.27 and wm 6.1
if no then where i can find the right radio rom i can grab for my treo 750 and instruction how to install it lol
am trying to understand how the phone should be setup while using a sim card without any disconnection by the phone also gime ability of roaming as well since i like my phone to be able too for future use
anyway thanks for reading and really do hope someone reply
also P.S: about the roaming icon any solution to that?
When you flash an OS ROM, it doesn't change the radio ROM. You have to flash it seperately.
I would suggest you only use the most recent radio ROM for your provider.
I have used 1.54.07 and 1.54.27 on my AT&T Treo 750 with success.
The Treo uses Hermes ROM's ... here is the repository.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Do not install 1.54.30.10 ... it's not a great radio from many accounts and once flashed, you will be stuck with it. You can't flash a new radio over the top of it.
ok now the radio is updated and it work i used the 1.54.07.00 so now am happy for that part but i got 1 more treo 750 i could not updated the radio due to there spl is 0.25 then 1.40 like my main one i normally test on them other treo so if they turn into a brick i would not care lol
is there a way to update a bootloader or i miss something somewhere?
Sounds like you need to Hard SPL the second phone.
well that what am trying to do when i do try with the hard spl v7 it does not work it goes blank so am trying to see if i can find a bootloader that 1.40 so i can so the same thing on the second phone to test radios and other kinky stuff
also on the side spot i notice that my phone fails to auto detect its band and the only way i can make it work is to select the right band for my provider is it coz i didn;t completely unlock my radio or i did something that bad? or re-flash the phone?
Anyone tried the 1.48 Radio ROM. Some are claiming better battery life than the 1.54.

I wasn't aware there was a v7 to Hard SPL, I just used the version in the first post of the HardSPL sticky here in the Treo 750 forum. It's worked on both Treo's I have tried it on. I would say re-download and re-format the SD card and try again?
As for having to select bands on your phone, my guess is whatever ROM you have flashed might not have the carrier information for your provider included, or your radio might not support the proper bands. Telus doesn't use the same 3G bands as AT&T, but Rogers does. Depending on which version of the phone you have, that could be the issue.

I tried it on AT&T and both the 1.54.07 and 1.54.27 ROMS were far better in terms of reception for me. Can't remember on the battery life since it's been awhile, but have to believe at the time if it was an issue I would have made the change back.

Okay - mine has 1.54.27 on it so I'll leave well enough alone. I just got this off of eBay (non camera version so I can take it to certain places at work) so I'm not sure what to expect for performance. The orginal battery lasted about 1/2 day so I just got a new OEM original battery and still burning it in.
Thanks for the tip.

I've always been able to get through the day without issue, but can't say I'm a heavy user.
The stock battery is 1200mAh, but Innocell makes a 1600 mAh battery that fits in the OEM space if you need more juice.

It's likely not the OS ROM causing it. Assuming you have other phones that lock onto a signal properly in the same locations, then it's probably the radio ROM. However, if the Treo in question was not originally sold for your carrier (which I assume is Telus) then it's possible that the phone is trying to find a frequency for 3G that is not supported by Telus. For example, AT&T shares the same 3G frequencies with Rogers, which are different from Telus'. If you have a Rogers or AT&T version of the Treo, you would probably be better off just locking the phone down to GSM only.
As for finding the proper radio, you would need to try to find any Telus radio ROM that you can. Have no idea what that would be, or where to find it. If you have the original WM5 or WM6 official Telus installer package it would likely be included there. Otherwise you are just going to have to scour the net in seach of it.
Hmm, in my tests it is the OS that handles the Band selection only, what bands the Treo supports is up to the Radio firmware. You can flash a radio that, say, doesn't support UMTS 850, and yet it's possible to write a code to have it selectable.
And a word of advice. If you flash any of those Hermes ROM's, there's no taking it out. No overwriting. So, say if your wireless carrier upgrades their network like mine did, there's no going back to any of the suitable Radios that you can find.
And, just to be helpful, I'll write down which Official Treo Radio can be found in where(the ones I have):
CNG 1.16 (Cingular WM5) with Radio 1.12c [no HSDPA enabled by default]
VFU/VFE 2.18 (Vodafone UK and EU WM6) 2.18 with radio 1.47.02.00 [fast HSPDA on UMTS 2100 band]
H3E 2.19 (H3E Australia WM6) with radio 1.52.30.00 [no GSM locking, AUS band]
ROW 2.23 (WWE Generic WM6) with radio 1.54.00.00 [equal performance on all bands]
ATT/CNG 2.25 (AT&T WM6) with radio 1.54.27.00[Optimized for 1900/850 UMTS bands]
TEL 2.26 (Telstra WM6) with radio 1.54.31.00 [Extra band locking to single UMTS band (850)]
ROG/ROW 2.27 (Rogers and WWE WM6) with radio 1.54.01.00 [Slight performance increase over ROW 2.23]
VFE 2.30 (Vodafone New Zealand WM6) with radio 1.54.02.00 [bug fixes and improvements over ROG/ROW 2.27]
All personally flashed and extensively tested by me on two wireless carriers testing all bands.

I guess we have different experiences then. I have had improvements in my phone locking onto a signal by changing radio ROMs without changing the OS ROM. I also have also used several of the Hermes radio ROM's and have been able to flash new radios without issue. The only exception I have ever seen is the 1.54.30.10 ROM which was widely reported to be impossible to flash over once installed (which for that reason I never tried).
I took from the OP that he was having trouble with his phone locking onto a signal and it was showing up as roaming a lot. I guess my thought was that perhaps he had a phone that wasn't originally sold for his network and it was trying to lock onto a band his carrier didn't support. Logically it seems like that might cause his problem, but I'm not well versed enough to know for sure.
As I mentioned, I am on AT&T and am using the 1.54.27 radio you report. It's the best of the radio ROMs I have tried. The Hermes 1.54.07 was the second best I tried. Thanks for the list, I'm sure it will help a lot of people. Of course you will now start getting requests to post them ...
Heh, when I said it's the OS that controls th selection, I mean just that, basically the drop-down menu in Band Selection. I too know that one can flash new radio's without changing OS's (you don't even have to Clear Data to use the new radio, just edit your choice of Data Connection setting, save, and your phone will automatically re-list your internet setup for use), and that's the thing. The OS will retain the Drop-down menu selection of bands, as it is tied to the OS (or both .pxp packages), an example is several tests I tried, for example the H3E ROM, does not have a selection for "GSM only" in the network type list. Say, if you flashed the ATT radio only then it will still retain the lack of GSM, because it is tied to the OS.
And yeah, I'm sure there would be at least one request. The problem is, I lost my source of instructions for ripping the Radio Firmware from the .nbh files and I do not want people having bricked Treo's all because I didn't follow instructions [I don't have]. Other course of action is to share th ROM itself, but that's large and I don't have an always on connection (this here Treo is my only source for internet, tether and built-in browser)
By the way, there are a lot of others who could not flash over other Hermes Radios, not that .10 one. I myself have 2 AT&T Treo's, and I flashed radio 1.50.00.00 and it remained no matter what I used to flash over it. I eventually gave away that half past dead Treo :/
well it used to be on auto with my telus card and it works on 3g network, the problem happend when i updated my treo 750 to 2.27 from 2.25 with wm6.1 am starting to think i mightn eed to reflash the rom it self
ok my wife as a fido sim card indeed i think its telus sim card the problem i have to use selective band it didn't needed that before i turn the phone from 2.25 ATT to 2.27 rwe the fido card work with the last radio version and i finally updated the bootloader
telus work with selective band >.>
now to know why fido card work auto but not telus
what does the radio do?
i got radio 1.54 .and i got two battery indicator when i installed HTC home (six tabs)
one bat is full and the other is like by bar. i want to remove the two battery because i got some newer/cooler battery indicator.
and i search some radios (idk why) so i try to installed other radios. and my phone stucks at the three colors.
and something pops up to my mind. i use cheetah unlocker. it got
FLASH SPL
RADIO.
idk the one.
so i flash spl and till i get to radio. it automatically updates to 1.1six some other icons on task bar changes.
but what does the radio do? and i dont know.
-sorry for the Six. because my Sixth button on keyboard is broken.
