Iv'e started this thread after several PMs regarding this topic
Please feel free to post your tips on how to customize/personalize your roms before flashing.
Heres one to start from my inbox before i deleted it

I have done a similar thing, by putting the "owner" info into the rom and changing the registry to remove the "owner info" control pannel applet then when they hard reset they get my welcome note same as you and also they can't disable/change owner details

Do you think that you could explain to a n00b like me how you can edit the rom or whatever so that the owner details cannot be changed?
Thanks
Get a registry editor like resco regedit or something like, goto
HKLM\controlpanel\Owner
and add a new string value called
"Redirect" and leave the value blank
now delete the dword "group"
save and reset device
If you are cooking you have to search the registry for the dword "group=0" and change to String "redirect="
Now that I've been around for a little while I will try this now, but If I ever wanted to change the details (say i was to sell it or whatever, which I REALLY don't want to do) what do you do?
The best way is to reflash a standard Rom without your personal details in. if you only want to modify it reverse the registry settings with a reg editor note this must be done after a hard reset every time. best to reflash your custom rom again modifying the settings first.

Hi there
The new way to write sms is absolutely awful!
Is there any possibility to get the "old" way back? I don't like this kind of "messenger"-style!
EnzephaloN
You can disable threaded sms via Schaps' excellent 'Advanced Configuration Tool'.

Ah, thanx a lot!
Just done it buddy, REALLLLLY easy to do.
Easiest way..
PHM Registry Editor
Scroll down and download " Pocket PC 2002,2003 (ARM/PXA )
Copy the downloaded file ( .cab ) across to your device.
Once there install it then open it up and navigate too HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\
Create a new DWORD value with value name as SMSInboxThreadingDisabled and set it value data to 1.
Soft reset and its done
I did it 5 mins ago and it makes texting alot better !, seems to run smoother too. Only takes a minute to do too.
Hey XDA,
I recently used the start text modifier on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426264&page=1
I read it and it seemed to suggest if I rename the included shellres.dll.040C.mui to shellres.dll.0409.mui it would work on my device.
It ended up changing my softkey menus & start menu to French. I wouldn't have a huge problem with that, as I can use Google translate & I know French.
But all my startup programs were lost. With my shortcuts all on WAD2, and access to Settings & Programs on QuickMenu, I couldn't access anything.
A hard reset has done the job, but its still not the greatest solution...
Would anyone know if the shellres file deleted startup entries, or why my start menu did not have settings & programs (just recent)?

Hi,
The problem is very clear : the manual and explanation it the 'Icon-changer' are WRONG. You just can't change the language to any other by changing some reference in the name of a given *.dll... You need to have the correct *.dll for YOUR language. Hence it's not working. Your shortcuts etc. did not disappear, they just didn't have any reference INSIDE the *.dll, so no way to show up.
Bad explanation doesn't mean it's not working. If you like to play around, you first backup your *.dll and the start hexing a copy of that backup. If it's not working as you should expect, you can always use TotalCommander to put back your backup.
Dirk
Ah, thanks sir.
I am relatively new to this, so thanks for giving me some basics.
So I would need to do some kind of hardcore cracking open of the dll, which is out-of-the-question for a newb.

There's nothing hardcore in it Just copy the *.dll you want to change to your PC. Make a backup-copy of it, and open that copy in an HEX editor like XVI32 or such... hack the needed bits and save the file.
Then you copy that hacked file back to your device. Best is to copy it to another place as the original, cos WM won't let you overwrite like that. Therefor you'll need to use TotalCommander.
If it's not acting as you expected, you can replace the hacked *.dll with the original backup the same way.
Dirk
Thanks!
Thanks for the quick responses sir.
I will look into your suggestions. Thanks heaps!
While I need to change the language parts of the *.dll from the other thread, will this also allow shortcuts to show up? Or is it better to edit my current *.dll to change the text that way?

Nope, you'll need to use YOUR *.dll... That's the only one that is integrated in your OS, and has all the connections to your shortcuts.

hi everybody !
i have blackstone mobile , i need to edit registry for some application ..
could anyone tell me how to do that clearly plz ..
i'm using ' REGEDIT ' application ..
get total commander it got a nice regeditor
Yeah, TC will be easier to use. Go to \\Plugins\Registry, and then navigate to the registry entry like you would with file explorer. When you get to the key you want, click on it and a little applet will pop up where you can change the value. Change it, click 'ok' and then in most cases you need to soft reset to get the change to take place. That's all there is to it. HKLM stands for 'hard key local machine', HKCU is '... Current User,' and HKCR is '... classes root.'
Since you don't know what you're doing, be sure to do a full back up beforehand in case you do something dumb.
Have a look at this guide for noobies to registry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257844&postcount=30
guys thx so much all of u .. i did it
Hi guys,
sorry for noobiness but i have tried my best searching the forum with no luck.
Basically i'm trying to make an edit to my registry using total commander but cant understand how to change the value.
All i've found in the forum is assistance on how to get to the desired key/sub key etc. I can get to the file fine, just not sure how/what alteration needs doing. Heres the edit i'm attempting:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila
HomeLSKPath = !"\Windows\manila.exe" --switchtopage Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page
HomeLSKText = Contacts
Do i edit 'HomeLSKPath'? and if so to what? Actually it says "Function not supported" when i try that.
Thanks so much for any help you can give me!
you are trying to change value, but you dont what you are suposed to change it to?
Or did I misunderstand?
I think I uderstand that you dont know HOW to change it.. but do you know WHAT you are changing it to?
ok.. I didn;t know Total Commander had a reg editor.
I just played with it, and I highly recommend you get PHM reg editor. Google it. It's free.
If you insist on Total Commander, you should be able to tap and hold the item you want to modify and choose properties.
The current value will be shown.
Change it to what you want it to be.
Please be careful.. if you mess up a value you may need to Hard reset your phone.
You are trying to modify your left softkey in Manilla.. What you posted looks like it's either currently mapped to contacts, or you want to change it to be contacts...

I guess you're trying to edit it with the Notepad button. All you have to do is just double-tap the HomeLSKPath to edit its value
Hey thanks alot for the help guys!
And thanks x51, i downloaded PHM reg editor and its much better than total commander.
Ok so i think i'm pretty sure how to edit the file now, the question is to what?
the edit i'm trying is:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila
HomeLSKPath = !"\Windows\manila.exe" --switchtopage Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page
so should i set the HomeLSKPath value (i think its empty at the moment) to this whole line? !"\Windows\manila.exe" --switchtopage Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page
thanks again
Hi everyone,
I was recently experimenting with my LG Quantum, trying to add another theme instead of the two that are already available. I know you can just change the values of one of the existing themes, but I wanted to keep both of the other ones. Anyways, I was using the Registry Editor app (not sure whose it was), and trying to add a key called "2" to HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes. It kept deleting when I refreshed the Registry Editor, so I decided to go into MFG and create the value HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes\2\BaseThemeColor. I then tried to go into the Registry Editor application to see if it had created the Key. But the registry editor didn't open. So I restarted my phone and everything works fine...except none of the applications that have been installed will open. I've tried reinstalling them and downloading different applications that I've never had. Nothing works.
Also, in settings, under the theme, it usually says the name of your current accent color. Now it doesn't say anything, so I'm pretty sure the problem has something to do with the new key that's been added to HKLM\ControlPanel\Themes. I can't delete the key either because the MFG application and Registry Editor won't open... I have no idea what to do.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

EDIT: push notifications from applications work, I just got one.

Time to reset the phone.
Settings
then select about.
Then scroll down and select Reset Phone.
You will need to reinstall things and reconfigure your email accounts.
Use the same Windows Live ID and you will be able to reinstall everything without repurchasing.
that's what I was dreading... I'll just restore it in Zune. So it's not too far away from what it used to be.
LET THIS BE A WARNING FOR EVERYONE WANTING TO ADD ANOTHER THEME.... DONT DO IT
