Simple Right-to-left language solution? - General Topics

Does one exist?
For example: my phone can see Hebrew letters. However, these letters are displayed backwards when read in Hebrew, it being a right-to-left language.
In english, it would be like getting a text message like this:
?gniod uoy era woH ,!olleH
Click to collapse
You can read it backwards, but it gets really annoying with long messages. And it makes it impossible to type long messages as each word has to be thought of backwards.
After installing a Hebrew font, it's no problem seeing the hebrew letters, but their Left-to-right (English) coordination is where it gets confusing.
Mind you, I don't need a Hebrew UI, or Hebrew menus, just the ability for the Hebrew text to display correctly (in the right-to-left direction) so I can send and receive text messages in the language.
Anyone got a clue as to what can solve this?
Thanks in advance.

you don't need to write backwards when writing an sms.
it will be ok when received on a hebrew supporting phone.
(thats the way i've been writing hebrew for monthes now.)
try it yourself and see..

You're right, but the reading part is still a big hassle

Try investigating the arabizer techniques, but change to a Hebrew font...
The OS doesn't natively support Right to Left AFAIK.

PhonePlus! 3: SMS

Hi All,
We have released PhonePlus third edition.
The new relase features (among other things) new easy-on-the-eye skin and SMS support.
Thank you for the support, beta testing and feedback.
We are now looking for contributers of language packs.
PhonePlus! support easy extendability of lanuages.
We currently have English and Hebrew, but if anyone is willing to translate to other langs he is very welcome to send us the translated lang file.
We will post them in our site, as well as on the retailers (PocketGear and HandAndGo).
Our site, www.mesoftware.biz, has the template for the empty lang file, feel free to experimante:
Edit this file on your computer using "notepad".
In the first line you have "name=" please add your language name in the blank area, for example: name=spanish.
Now fill in every number line your own language letters.
i.e. - "1.Text= abc" just like on your usual cell phone, and continue filling in all of those ".text=" places.
If you have uppercase letters on your language, fill those blanks with your uppercase letters as well.
After you have done all that, save the file as "your language.lng" for example "spanish.lng".
This file should be placed under the /program files/phoneplus folder in your device.
When opening your phoneplus software, you will notice that the right button has changed and now has your language name on it. You can choose your language as the default language by going to "options". Now you can write SMS or look for contacts in any language you want.
We may release in the future some app to automaticly (or GUI-ly) edit the lang files, but for now we feel it is rather stright-forward.
So, I would to hear more feedbacks and comments, if aynone can spare some...
Regards,
Micha

As Pocket PC Phone Edition users, we are facing some problems with the Built-in SMS Application, I hope you can solve it...:
- Sending and Receiving EMS, or at least Receiving only...
- Sending and Receiving vCard and vBusiness with normal mobiles like Nokia, SE, Moto...etc...
Nice application but.... (yes, there's always a 'but')...
There seems to be a problem with the Green Button assignment on my MDA2. It worked for some brief time but eventually failed and launches the original dialer.
It seems more like a problem with the OS, since I tried other dialers (MobiDial) and the same Green Button problem exsists there....
Any ideas? :?:

It's sad because the fonts apparently supports it. At least they support chinese as some of my contact have chinese name and they appear properly in the text editor.
What's really missing is the IME or a virtual keyboard

Not that sad, geez, the phone is a month old...

It's sad when a product is restricted to iso-latin. Even if the product was not intended for outside of the US market a good chunk of the population in the US speak and use a second language on a daily basis. Whether it's Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian or something else.
I18N is a pain, and managing different IME is another bigger one so I understand why it was postponed to a future date.
so no chance for arabic support till now
heeeeeeellllllllpppppp
somebody should help us (Arabic language speakers) to fix this G1 phone Arabic support issue ,,, when I read the roadmap and did not find any plans to support Arabic, i felt disappointed...
I can't read any Arabic text msg's nor the g1 browser is supporting arabic websites ,,

For Arabic support: http://www.2shared.com/file/4721532/c336ef8d/update.html
It's JF1.4 (RC30) with arial as the fallback font. You can read arabic msgs and websites but no writing yet.
Same goes for everyone else: If you need your native alphabet, just replace DroidSansFallback.ttf with whatever font that supports your language.
are the letters connected too?
looks like someone made it already.. but i hope that we will be able to get it free, as it is with everything "OPEN source"

NEW app!
I have created an Arabic Keyboard on the market, check it out.

[Question] how to make Swype DUTCH?

I have swype it works great but i want to use it now with texting... but its english anyone know how to make swype dutch? i read something about the dutch dictionary in swype via the sms program but i coudnt find the right lexicon.txt... anyone help pls?
Try SlideIT
SlideIT has already 14 language packs : Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
You can download it here: Download SlideIT
thx for ur help but i know swype is in dutch language pack and i want it and not slide it i think its a laggier program
EDIT: Cant i put the dutch language pack from slide it in Swype>? it is just a txt file right so it should bbe possible
Not even one dutch men around here who has the dutch version of swype>?
voor zover ik weet is swype er op dit moment alleen nog maar in Engels en Spaans.
As far as i know, at the moment only English and Spanish are available for Swype.
Nope, sorry, i was wrong...look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597406&highlight=swype&page=3 # 26
Dutch dictionairy is available, but no easy way to add it to swype yet.
I'm waiting anxious as well. Most of the time Dutch versions of things are quite soon available, not this time...

well this program is not really for sale, they sold it for some samsung phones and they are patners with Verizon (if i'm correct). So maybe thats why there are so des supported languages. But you can also putthe language in a mail and add in that way.
oops my browser buggs with the edit button >.< Opera beta sucks
i tired to open the txt file in word and my phone crashed XD and is u swype 123 fast at&t will appear as word on screen so i think its partners with at&t...
But u sure it will work if i put it all in a mail?
Because i dont mind having english words aswell because i surf in english on the web so i can have both this way?
No connect your phone to your computer with active sync and mymobiler (so you can control your mobile via windows) --> open de txt file in windows (xp, vista, 7)! --> Then copy some lines to your email (you need to create new email) --> use the swype key and w8 a while. And repeat the entire process
This will take a lot of time, but will be worth in the end. Al though I don't use swype any more .
That sounds like alot of work indeed... i dont have that much time... well ye ill just wait for someone to edit the cab and add the dutch dictionary....
But if one person just copy and paste those words in swype then he can upload the dictionary file from his phone to XDA so we can replace it with ours and we have dutch Swype! But someone with alot of TIME has todo it then...
has no one done this?

No one has done this?
Guess not, that email method will take ages but i will give it a try.
Just gimme the files/info needed.
Wouldn't it be possible to extract apk and add language lib to add and sign it again ?

I'd really like a dutch dictionary for swype. I just used it for about 5 minutes in English and I'm really astonished by the capabilities of the product. Its hella faster than me typing
Since using the extracted version of Swype is considered a violation of copyrights I decided to try SlideIT. There is a demo version and this one is looking good so far. For only $15 i think I'lll go for this one! Not to forget that SlideIT does have language support.
I've been using SlideIT for a few days now, but it is not as good as swype (not even close!). You get a lot of mistypes, and it just doesn't work as fluently as swype.
I'm gonna try the email add method, see if that works .
The only problem i think that it will give is that you'll have both english and dutch as suggested words...

Yes it does give both as a suggestion, but as you use the dutch words more and more often it remember which words you prefer so if you swype often it'll work just fine.
What I did was split the dutch words into multiple small text files, then I open these text files with the explorer and edit > select all > touch the swype button, wait for like 30 seconds and you get an entire list saying words added to the dictionary, let me save you a little trouble a long the way here are the dutch text files I used I'd say it's around 8000 words or even more! Aprox 800 per files and some contain 1500 words. Now not every word is in here yet because it takes quite some time splitting it into a lot of different files but I'll sure continue splitting soon.
Also if words have already been added for example you added hallo doei goedemiddag or something like that and one of my text files contains these words aswell, they will not be added because it scans if the word is already in the dictionary or not, so no need to worry about duplicates.
Well after that load of text here are my .txt files containing lots of dutch words you can open each single files and just do this:
Menu > Edit (Bewerken) > Select All (Alles Selecteren) > Press the swype button to open the keyboard > Press the swype button in the lower left corner (linker onderin).
After waiting a while it should say words added giving you a list of the added words, now not all the words that have been added fit on the screen but all the words in the .txt file will have been added !

problem special characters in HTC Desire S - Sense 3.5

I have a problem, I'm Portuguese, so you write sms with catacteres 'ã' 'ê' 'ç' 'á' among others. Right now I'm using the ROM of Endymion, I've come to use the ROM and Runnymede had the same problem of special characters. When you send sms to other mobile phones with special characters, shows with other characters. If I change to the language to English (Portugal), it sends correctly, but if you switch back to Portuguese (Portugal) turn to be the problem.
I think that is the coding for sending sms. Someone can help me?
I've come to talk with lowveld, but he still could not see the problem...
i'm not sure if it would fix the problem, but have you tried downloading a different keyboard? Something like swype?
the problem is not on the keyboard, but the coding for sending sms.
have already installed some keyboards, and continues with the same problem. I can only post with special characters if I change the ROM language to English (Portugal).
Also installed morelacale2 to change to the Portuguese language and continue with the same problem.
So the encoding of sms that is defined in the ROM language to English (Portugal) is not defined in Portuguese (Portugal)
if I knew how be programmed the ROM, maybe I could find the settings to English.
that's why I'm asking for help.
I'm also Portuguese and also suffering from the same problem. My phone is completely stock with HTC updates, it has android 2.3.5 and sense 3.0 and I use the last version of Swype. I agree with you and think that the problem is not the keyboard but something else.
greetings
aBIp
I have the same problem too. I tried to change keyboard but steel with problems.
If someone could help, that'll be nice.
I had a similar problem when typing Greek characters, the sms were sent ok but instead of sending 160 characters per SMS, it would send only 70 per SMS.
This would mean that I was sending 2-3 SMS in order to send 160 characters message.
I solved it by installing Handcent SMS client from the Market.
I don't know if it would help you but you can always give it a try.
Hi everyone,
Im currently on TBD v3.1 Rom, and have the exact same problem, and really only happening when sending sms, it looks fine on my htc HD2, but the receiver instead of "~" gets a "?".
Email is working fine, facebook, everything except sms.
So far no one knows whats wrong or how to solve it =/
(my best friend, Google, cant also tell me how to solve this)
