PhonePlus! 3: SMS - General Topics

Hi All,
We have released PhonePlus third edition.
The new relase features (among other things) new easy-on-the-eye skin and SMS support.
Thank you for the support, beta testing and feedback.
We are now looking for contributers of language packs.
PhonePlus! support easy extendability of lanuages.
We currently have English and Hebrew, but if anyone is willing to translate to other langs he is very welcome to send us the translated lang file.
We will post them in our site, as well as on the retailers (PocketGear and HandAndGo).
Our site, www.mesoftware.biz, has the template for the empty lang file, feel free to experimante:
Edit this file on your computer using "notepad".
In the first line you have "name=" please add your language name in the blank area, for example: name=spanish.
Now fill in every number line your own language letters.
i.e. - "1.Text= abc" just like on your usual cell phone, and continue filling in all of those ".text=" places.
If you have uppercase letters on your language, fill those blanks with your uppercase letters as well.
After you have done all that, save the file as "your language.lng" for example "spanish.lng".
This file should be placed under the /program files/phoneplus folder in your device.
When opening your phoneplus software, you will notice that the right button has changed and now has your language name on it. You can choose your language as the default language by going to "options". Now you can write SMS or look for contacts in any language you want.
We may release in the future some app to automaticly (or GUI-ly) edit the lang files, but for now we feel it is rather stright-forward.
So, I would to hear more feedbacks and comments, if aynone can spare some...
Regards,
Micha

Hi,
thank you for your work and the posting above.
I made a language-script for german-spiaking users attached.
Have fun!
markimark

Good Work!
Hi markimark,
If you'll go to http://www.mesoftware.biz/language.htm you'll see that we have updated your contribution to languages supported.
Thanks a bunch!

Update
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the effort in the language department.
We now have 5 language free for all to download and use at http://www.mesoftware.biz/language.htm.
These of you with German ROMs: The porblem is fixed and a new version is avaiable for download, SMS problem fixed!
2003 SE: Also working with fixed icons problem.
Look for v3.03 in http://www.mesoftware.biz/downloadfinal.htm and PocketGear/HandAndGo.
Regards,
Micha

As Pocket PC Phone Edition users, we are facing some problems with the Built-in SMS Application, I hope you can solve it...:
- Sending and Receiving EMS, or at least Receiving only...
- Sending and Receiving vCard and vBusiness with normal mobiles like Nokia, SE, Moto...etc...

Nice application but.... (yes, there's always a 'but')...
There seems to be a problem with the Green Button assignment on my MDA2. It worked for some brief time but eventually failed and launches the original dialer.
It seems more like a problem with the OS, since I tried other dialers (MobiDial) and the same Green Button problem exsists there....
Any ideas? :?:

COURAGE:-) MDAIII - Key remapping project

Hi all ...
we need some (maybe a lot) help from programmers to try to remap the hard keyboard keys from mda3.
As many guys know, we are a lot that we buy the mda3 with german hard keyboard layout... and now that we all have an english os, we must remap the key and symbols.
Any idea will be appreciated, we have all files from german os an english os.
Nobody want to broke the keyboard to glue the buttons in other place...
Nobody now how and where can order another english keyboard and replace it phisically.
Remain two thinks:
1. find the file with the layout and remap the symbols via hex edit
2. recompile a new layout (and here may be usefull for future progs)
All idea wiil be apreciated, all guru's invited
Please help us ... we can not take advantage of the new hard keyboard in this mode.
Thanks all before and...
COURAGE FOR ALL NEW POSTS THAT MUST BE UPDATED(POSTED) !!!

Actually, keys and numbers are fine. It's punctuation that is almost impossible to use unless you have a good memory
From what I remember of the old thread that got wasted, a few things were looked at but it seems harder than it should. You would think one or two files transferred from the PDA2K to the MDA III, like a keyboard dll and a mapping data file, would do the trick but, as usual with engineers, they made it harder than it should.
I can suggest another way for this remapping: just writing a kind of program lookind for keypressings and substitute them with another keystrokes.
I've already done it for Russian keyboard (project home page is http://ae.inc.ru/bahrus.html , but it is Russian only). Current state is "beta".
I can do some key remappings this way. But I need to know which of the keys should be replaced with which one. Or replacement table may be simply saved in config.
I'll do a tabel with the replaced hex value ...
You need only the xex value for this or need more ?
Thanks a lot
Denis
Let's try (before find all remapping simbol) to remap only the two letters z and y.
Symbolic constant Value (Hex) keyboard equivalent
VK_Y 59 Y key
VK_Z 5A Z key
like ... if '59' then '5A' and viceversa...
If we can remap this two letters, we can remap all we want.
Thanks a lot
Denis

Ok, I decided to implement more general solution for this problem and develop customizable hardware key-remapping software. This application wil allow to remap not only BlueAngel built-in keyboard but almost any hardware keybord connected to wince (some of my friends use Luch or Flexis external keyboards with PDA).
Hope first beta version will appear next week.
thank you!, sure i'll be back with more questions though!
Fantastic!
I'm excited about this

Wow, that's great news. (exactly what I wanted to hear!) Keep up the good work. (you rock)
AEKMap is available at http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.html
To make "remapping" you need:
- install the program;
- run Start - Programs - AEKMap Settings and choose "AZERTY MDAIII with English ROM" in first combo box
- set three other optional layouts to "unassigned" and/or unassign "switch" key.
If you want to create specific layout, you may start with editing one of the existing. Use \Program Files\AEKMap\AEKMapScan.exe to define keyboard pseudo-scan codes.
To find unicode character codes use Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map on your desktop
This program may be closed with popup menu on system tray (lower-right corner of today screen).
And I'm definitly sure that some bugs are in this utility now. Let me know if you find them
Also send me with your layouts to be published on site (will appear in a days)
P.S.: AEKMapper may be used to remap almost any external or built-in hardware keyboard recognized by system.
AWESOME!
Thanks for doing this. If i understand correctly, what's needed now to get the German MDA III keyboard mapped correctly, following the imate english rom installation, is to:
use AEKmapscan.exe to identify all the keys that need remapping
then look up the correct unicode characters for the desired keymapping
enter them into a .AEK file and put into the Program Files/AEKMap directory on the MDA III.
If i get some free time today, that's what I'll do. If anybody beats me to it, please post!
thanks again, AE!
So here is a mostly working layout file for the MDAIII German. The only thing that seems to be not working is the semicolon/colon key just to the right of the space bar. that key seems to have no shifted mode, according to aekmapscan.exe
also: if aekmapscan.exe is running, this appears to stop the keyboard from working at all in applications. it needs to be stopped entirely.
Thanks again for this great tool!
It is always nice to know your job is needful to someone
As for the problem with semicolon: changing CapsLock/Shift processing flags should help:
HookShift 1
HookCapsLock 1
Probably I'll find a better solution for this later, but now I can't...
Official project home page will be available at http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.html
thanks for the tool, works great. Can you add an option to not have the mapping name on the bottom, i.e. DenisJ Layout? It covers up the wireless icon that I use to turn Wifi on & off.
thanks again for the app
you already can turn it off. that's the "hint" option in the settings.
A parts from thanks the great job from AE, i wan't to try to ask a question:
In the registry there's a part...
HKCU/Keyboard Layout that have a profile value..
Could it be usefull..
My German Mda3 have... preload/1 set to e0010409.
Can anyone post the english Pda2K value...
Rups..
Bug report
AEKMap works quite well, thanks to the developer!
But...
I noticed that, when AEKMap is on, you can´t adjust sound/volume levels from the external button on the left side of the screen. Is that a bug or a feature?
Second thing is that if you switch the AEKMap off, you can switch it on only by softreset. Is that ment to be?
Can anyone confirm those features, or is it just in my MDAIII?
-Jigi
Sorry guys but i just arive from my fisrt (this year) snowboard weekend
AE many many thanks from me and (as can you see) from all other guys with the same german mda3...
I just tryed some days ago to begin something like this using EVC++ 4.0 ... but it's too much to study for an as400 programmer
This will be surrely in my startup programs for a log live time of my mda3...
Surelly we will ask you some options in future ...
Another lot of thanks

What font is being used? is it the typical Chinese ac3 font or Segoe?
I'm afraid i don't understand your question beacause i don't know the fonts you are talking about. please explain!
Guys this really works,
Just installed it on my SP5 over an SP5m firmware. Its very quick to install too. it took 3 minutes to install.
I will advise if it worths.
any news on this?
This is the fastest rom I used on tornado without overclocking. Quicker boot, quicker logoff and menu control. It is very pretty looking like Iphone.
The only negative is that the default input language is chinese, so you have to press * a lot to write. Everything else is in english.
If you are a tech freak use it.
Cheers
I am confused about the language options. If you goto Settings you should be able to select Locale and change it to US and English right? If not then change the registry to delete every other language besides English. I have don that in the past and worked great. However, I am not willing to risk downloading this ROM if the language isn't right. Any other bugs with this ROM??

Saw the link that you gave, it uses the usual chinese font, they are a lot thinner than the usual WM5 font which is called Segoe..
Not a big deal since we can change fonts easily thru Registry

Would appreciate if someone could post the free storage space and RAM left right after loading the ROM..
Thanks
anybody going to strip this down?!
would be great to get an aku3.x rom update for the tornado!
this one looks great. wm6 would be better though.
Wow, decided to quickly throw this on right before I took off to work this morning.
The very first think I noticed was the fix for my Motorola ht820 A2DP headphones! No more will I have to deal with the high pitched distortion/noise!
I'm assuming this was either just a partial flash, or it was built upon an imate rom because I still have my imate splash screen at the beginning.
I'm at work now, and I really should be working, so I wont have a chance to install any programs or tweak with the homescreen at all . . .
The iphone stuff is well done, but I couldnt care less about having a minimal looking screen, I'll go back to my previous settings . .
Also, hopefully I can search around here enough to find out how to get my t9 back. . . . not the end of the world but would be nice.
Would also be nice to get the midlet manager back.

Hi, i've already tried that solution but it doesn't work.
it's a diferent input software they used in this rom, it lacks suport for t9.
Can someone who knows how to speak chinese try to contact the maker of this rom (it's the guy in the link with screenshots i believe) and ask him for suport on how to make a xd-devs rom???
that would be fantastic.

How to Display Asian Languages?

Hello all!
I have the Fuze from AT&T, and I can't seem to find how to display asian webpages / music titles.
I don't want my whole phone to be changed, just the ability to show asian fonts instead of symbols! I tried adding chinese/korean/japanese fonts to Windows/Fonts folder, but that didn't help...
Anyone have a tutorial? I also checked htcwiki, but no one has the answer
Thanks a lot!
You need to link your fonts to the base font (Tahoma) by adding some registry entries. Instructions here:
http://leeblood.com/2008/02/16/windows-mobile-6-changing-the-system-font-adding-korean-support/
Keep in mind for MP3 tags (and possibly also other formats), the TF3d player (which uses WMP) also requires the ID3 tags be encoded in unicode in order to be read and displayed properly.
there is a file somewhere on this forum that allows you to view chinese, korean and thai. search for KoreChiThai
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
Ok, I got my phone to display chinese/korean/japanese using korechithai.cab
but... now none of my keys are working!! Including the slideout keyboard, the home key, the back key, etc etc... It still lights up with i press the fn key or the shift/caps lock, but nothing shows up on the screen.
Also, the onscreen keyboard won't let me backspace, and letter recognizer is screwy too...
UGH... T.T HELP!!
Here is Chinese for you
Here I found something to display Chinese.
Works for sms and some system things (I currently got a Chinese Sim in my mobile). Didn't work for my Chinese e-mails though. Didn't test with websites... Found it as part of a Chinese translation program... But these are just the fonts not the program. You can find ChineseFont.cab on this page:
http://sites.google.com/site/wmdict/wm-dict-general/wm-dict-v20/wm-dict-v20-install-wm
Hope it works for you.
I didn't experience any problems. Again, this is not for input (I guess), just fonts to display.
Try CE-Star, it work, also you can write chinese too
CE-Star ... and what about Japanese, Chinese, Thai
Hi,
I tried CE-Star before and it wasn't really stable. Changed a lot of things on the phone such as fields and text sizes being incompatible. One being too large that is...
Yesterday I also installed the KorChiTha and the Japanese I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
However, I already had the cab I mentioned two posts ago and of course it froze my telephone needing a hard reset
Too eager and too impatient... anyway learned my lesson. Now I am looking for something like KorChiTha (which works fine for me by the way, I only use Chi and Tha) but with Chinese, Thai, and Japanese. This of course to run on my UK Raphael (well I bought it as HTC Touch Pro). These are the languages I need, I know a bit specific...
Does anyone know if there is this combination package somewhere? I don't want to crash everything again by combinging two different packages.
Thanks,
You can install fonts separately. Find three fonts that you like (Chinese traditional and/or simplified, Thai, and Japanese) and place them in your \Windows folder. Then add a reg key like so:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
Tahoma = (multi-line string value)
\Windows\msyh.ttf,MS Yahei
\Windows\cordiau.ttf,CordiaUPC
\Windows\msgothic.ttf,MS Gothic
Of course, substitute font filename and font name for whichever fonts you use. You may also need to create a similar key for "Courier New" if any of your apps use it as a base font and are also trying to display Chinese/Thai/Japanese.
CE Star problem and solution
Hey all,
I bought my TP in Hong Kong and it came with a version of CE-Start which I'm guessing was written for the Touch Pro. I say "written for" because:
1. I tried to install the version which came with my TP on my friends Diamond and it wouldn't install oh the Diamond.
2. Same friend that has a Diamond installed a version (not written for the Diamond)of CE Star and one day his Diamond's SMS messed up. From the TF3D screen, he could read the message but if he tried to open the SMS in Window's the page would just be white; no text no nothing and he couldn't write messages.
Googled the problem and found the answer:
Delete CE-Star and SMS can be read again in the Windows SMS app. He deleted CE-Star and what do you know, his SMS worked again.
Same thing happened to another friend that installed CE-Star on his older WM phone. I told him to delete CE-Star and his SMS worked again also.
Luckily so far, my phone has not experienced this problem; could be because of the version of CE-Star I have. Hopefully this won't happen to other CE-Star users but if you can't read SMS all of a sudden, CE-Star is probably why.
PS If you do get your TP in HK; the version of CE-Star on the Application CD doesn't work...I called HTC HK and the customer support lady said the wrong version was shipped with the TP. To get the correct version which will install on your TP, go to the HTC HK website and download it from the support section. I bought my TP and called HTC in October 2008, so maybe this version problem has been solved already.
?? Can't Read Chinese in the Calendar Notes Section
Hi everyone,
As posted above, I have CE-Star installed on my TP. I can read and write Chinese in everything so far except for the notes section in the calendar area.
The subject line in the calendar entry will display Chinese, but not if I write Chinese in the Notes area. If I write Chinese in the Notes area, Chinese is displayed but when I try to view the entry, the Chinese text is gone and replaced with "???????????"
Any ideas why?
Thanks

Is your TPro set to use Chinese regional settings? If not, you may give it a try. Without it, the Calendar app may not be reading the calendar database correctly.

Hey fhsieh,
Thanks for the advice; I didn't even think about that.
Tried changing the regional settings to Hong Kong but the calendar notes section still displayed "???" in place of the Chinese characters. Numbers and letters of the alphabet display properly though.
Any other changes you can think that might help?
It may be an issue with the default locale ID/codepage, and could be causing the SIP to not send the characters to the Calendar app properly. You may try adding/editing the following keys in order to force WM to use the specified codepages and locale IDs:
[HKLM\nls]
DefaultACP=dword:000003b6 (decimal=950)
DefaultOCP=dword:000003b6
DefaultLCID=dword:00000c04 (decimal=3076)
SystemLCID=dword:00000c04
Microsoft lists the Chinese (Hong Kong) codepage as 950 (for DefaultACP and DefaultOCP), and locale ID as 0c04/3076 (for DefaultLCID and SystemLCID). Please refer to the following:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms776446.aspx
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/win2k/setup/lcid.mspx
Please note: Changing the NLS settings affects WM system-wide. You won't damage your phone, but you may have unwanted side effects. So please backup your data in case you need to hard-reset. Also, CE-Star has its own way of using NLS, so changing these settings may break CE-Star. Furthermore, I can't guarantee it'll fix the "???" character problem, because it may be an inherent problem with CE-Star that cannot be fixed with these NLS registry keys.
I do know those keys worked for me when I needed to fix Japanese input problems on my TouchPro, but I am using standard MS IME, not CE-Star. If you're unsure about the settings, you can also try searching elsewhere for those specific registry keys (DefaultACP, DefaultLCID, etc).
Awsome, thanks for the help again. I'm backing up my phone now and will try these regedits after work tonight. Hope things go well; I'll report later.

Made the registry edits but "???" still show up in the notes section when I open a calendar entry.
The good news is that I didn't have to hard reset my TP. Seems like the only changes which occured are a mixed bag of font changes related to Windows menus. The Programs, Settings, Start Menu, calendar and call history, and the soft keys are all different fonts now: the lettering is "thinner." Other Windows apps like email, SMS, and Contacts have no font changes. Also, it seems that all the lettering in TF3D is not affected as well
Thanks again for the help fhsieh.
One more question: how do you have Japanese (other language) input? Did you have to install a Japanese reading/writing program or by IME do you mean the same thing I use to type Chinese in Windows with my keyboard? If I can use IME (if WM6.1 comes with a language pack), can I just install it like I do on XP?
Japanese, Chinese, Thai combination wanted...
Just refering to my posts above... is it possible to have the combination:
Japanese
Chinese
Thai
Like in the solution for KorChiTha..???
Thanks
I use the standard Microsoft Japanese IME, which I installed through a CAB. I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to ask so forgive me for just trying to be clear:
IME is not a program but a collection of dll files (and other system files, which add language and keyboard support) and registry settings (which load those files). There are programs that can do input without any special IME, but the input only works inside the program itself and will not work anywhere else in the system. 3rd party IMEs like CE-Star are the same, only they use their own dll files/settings.
Adding IMEs to WM is similar to adding keyboards to XP, but it is not the exact same. With XP, you can simply install regional support and add keyboards by inserting your XP disc. Microsoft does not provide such a disc for WM. But the required dll files / reg settings are pre-installed in certain phones (regional ROMs), so some people have extracted them to be able to install them to other phones that don't have it pre-installed.
With Japanese it's easy, since there is only one charset, one regional setting, and one set of keyboards (unless you want to use 3rd party IMEs). But with Chinese it's hard because of traditional/simplified, numerous regions and settings, and all kinds of keyboards (pin-yin, jyutping, four-corner, etc). CE-Star is a good alternative because it's just one single "suite" that can be used on practically any WM phone. But for that reason there will be small problems like the "???" character issue.
The benefit of Microsoft's own IME is that it may be able to avoid those problems. The trick is to figure out exactly which combination of traditional/simplified, regional support, and keyboards you want and then finding a package that has it (or finding the files setting it up yourself). Moreover, you may still have the same problems because not all packages are set up for every kind of ROM -- so there may be all sorts of other settings you need to change in order to get it working.
Still, if you want to try Microsoft's Chinese IME, a good place to start is Asukal's e-China package. You can also search XDA for Chinese IME threads. I would also recommend talking to some of the cooks who have setup Chinese ROMs, they will know better than I exactly which files you need and what settings. One of the newer Chinese ROMs is Jack's Chinese/Japanese Xperia ROM.

You can download it here: Download SlideIT

EDIT: Cant i put the dutch language pack from slide it in Swype>? it is just a txt file right so it should bbe possible
Not even one dutch men around here who has the dutch version of swype>?
voor zover ik weet is swype er op dit moment alleen nog maar in Engels en Spaans.
As far as i know, at the moment only English and Spanish are available for Swype.

well this program is not really for sale, they sold it for some samsung phones and they are patners with Verizon (if i'm correct). So maybe thats why there are so des supported languages. But you can also putthe language in a mail and add in that way.
oops my browser buggs with the edit button >.< Opera beta sucks
i tired to open the txt file in word and my phone crashed XD and is u swype 123 fast at&t will appear as word on screen so i think its partners with at&t...
But u sure it will work if i put it all in a mail?
Because i dont mind having english words aswell because i surf in english on the web so i can have both this way?
No connect your phone to your computer with active sync and mymobiler (so you can control your mobile via windows) --> open de txt file in windows (xp, vista, 7)! --> Then copy some lines to your email (you need to create new email) --> use the swype key and w8 a while. And repeat the entire process
This will take a lot of time, but will be worth in the end. Al though I don't use swype any more .
That sounds like alot of work indeed... i dont have that much time... well ye ill just wait for someone to edit the cab and add the dutch dictionary....
But if one person just copy and paste those words in swype then he can upload the dictionary file from his phone to XDA so we can replace it with ours and we have dutch Swype! But someone with alot of TIME has todo it then...
has no one done this?

I'd really like a dutch dictionary for swype. I just used it for about 5 minutes in English and I'm really astonished by the capabilities of the product. Its hella faster than me typing
Since using the extracted version of Swype is considered a violation of copyrights I decided to try SlideIT. There is a demo version and this one is looking good so far. For only $15 i think I'lll go for this one! Not to forget that SlideIT does have language support.
I've been using SlideIT for a few days now, but it is not as good as swype (not even close!). You get a lot of mistypes, and it just doesn't work as fluently as swype.
I'm gonna try the email add method, see if that works .
The only problem i think that it will give is that you'll have both english and dutch as suggested words...

Yes it does give both as a suggestion, but as you use the dutch words more and more often it remember which words you prefer so if you swype often it'll work just fine.
What I did was split the dutch words into multiple small text files, then I open these text files with the explorer and edit > select all > touch the swype button, wait for like 30 seconds and you get an entire list saying words added to the dictionary, let me save you a little trouble a long the way here are the dutch text files I used I'd say it's around 8000 words or even more! Aprox 800 per files and some contain 1500 words. Now not every word is in here yet because it takes quite some time splitting it into a lot of different files but I'll sure continue splitting soon.
Also if words have already been added for example you added hallo doei goedemiddag or something like that and one of my text files contains these words aswell, they will not be added because it scans if the word is already in the dictionary or not, so no need to worry about duplicates.
Well after that load of text here are my .txt files containing lots of dutch words you can open each single files and just do this:
Menu > Edit (Bewerken) > Select All (Alles Selecteren) > Press the swype button to open the keyboard > Press the swype button in the lower left corner (linker onderin).
After waiting a while it should say words added giving you a list of the added words, now not all the words that have been added fit on the screen but all the words in the .txt file will have been added !
