Calling all Geeks LOL - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hey I figured out why my damn SD card is reading only half its available memory. Guess what happened, when i formatted in camera, camera partitioned the drive as a 1gb drive, so there is 1gb of unpartitioned space on the card (thanks to vista for showing me that). Now here is the issue, I cant find a partitioning software for free that will delete the partition and let me create it. Any ideas?

I like beer.

paragon partition manager, then sd card reader(format) to make you safe...

if you're in windows vista you can partition it through the drive manager. just go to the start menu and right click on "computer" and choose "manage" and then choose "disk management". just click on the partition of your memory card whether you are using wm5torage or you have it hooked up through a card reader (separate or camera) and use the app to resize and format the partition. i was able to do this with other removeable storage devices...

I tried that, no option to resize
And do to a very nasty virus, I had to reinstall everything on machine. Now im stuck on Vista Ultimate. Gonna have to rebuild my ROM collection. Hope I still have alot of them at work, if not, oh well, Starting from scratch is always fun.

hmm...i'm on vista ultimate and i have an option to either "extend volume" or "shrink volume" when i right click on the drive in the bottom half of the screen...
if you're in vista you can try one of the progs that are listed as compatible (never tried any of the apps):

good luck...

You can try this, it might be able to fix it, i am not sure about the partition size though.

SD card was 2GB and now :(

hi all
i have 2GB SD card
i put it in digital camera and format it
now it readed as 1GB
is there any sw that format SD to specific size coz when i try fromat it , it formated as 1 GB
best regards
MAK
Get an SD usb reader for your pc, destroy the partition in windows system manager. (Rightclick on 'My Computer' and choose Manage.) Go to the disk manager, and destroy the 1GB partition, and recreate your 2GB, -OR- make another 1GB partition along side it. The camera should ignore one or the other, and just use one of them, so you can have your phone use the other and be able to read the camera's data.
Have fun.
the problem is that windows see it in disk manager as 1GB only
seems the cam make something wrong in the card and not detect anymore as 2 GB
any sw to do reformat again
use resco file explorer on your ppc. the camera foramtted it to 1gb because that will be the maximum size sd it can handle!
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp
just install resco, tap and hold on the storage card then hit format!!
2gb sd card is back!
Have you already tried low level format?
I recommend utility called "Pocket Mechanic", but for sure there are more programs that you can use for that.
Where did you get your 2gb minisd from?
Still not sure if I wanna trust the ones from ebay. Should I wait until Sandisk releases their 2gb minisd version?

Application for bridging SDHC as device memory

Guys,
Is there somewhere else who create an application that can make SDHC card as device memory?
Thanx.

The storage card can only be used as a storage card, not for device memory. nice idea though, it would be nice to have 16gb of ram
Regards
Jay
maybe this is not about ram but about having the sd card as primary partition, which might be possible although it has never been done before. in wm2003 the ramdrive was the primary partition and the "storage" was listed as a storage card. these days the storage is the first (and on most devices and roms only) partition. but when a ramdisk is added, it is listed as a storage card. that means the order of the drives is variable and a storage card could also be the first partition.
but what would you want with a theretical answer like that? an expert rom chef, who started with cooking wm2003 might know the answer or could do that for you.
but for all realistic means, you should simply try and save all documents, pictures, videos and music, install bigger programs, derive the cache for your browser, store email attachments all on the sd card. the only problems with completely leaving out on the internal storage, especially for program installation, is that it is slow.
It should be possible but you will probably need to cook a new ROM to get it working. It's mostly just a matter of telling CE which mounted volume you want to mount as root for the emulated objectstore.
This document on MSDN should give you an idea of what to do:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms885839.aspx
The MPx200's WM5/WM6 ROMs do this already. If you do this, keep in mind you likely won't ever be able to eject the card while the device is booted as the registry will be stored there. Now, maybe you could write some sort of app that would dismount/remount and reinitialize the registry at the press of a button but that doesn't seem too practical unless you have no choice as on the MPx200. Another workaround might be to store the registry hives on an internal flash partition and store the rest of the system folders on the SD card.
As for implementing the RAM/ROM based filesystem like in WM2003, I'm not sure. The Windows CE 5.x kernel used for Windows Mobile 5/6/6.1/6.5 certainly won't prevent you from doing it but I'm unsure the Universal's hardware can persist the ram contents between "soft" resets. If it can, then I imagine it's only a matter of using an NK.exe that doesn't force a clean reboot and using a different filesys.exe than the included ROM only/hive registry configuration it ships with. Heh, if you ever looked at the MS news groups you will see a whole bunch of posts by OEMS getting yelled at for using the ram based configuration in their beta WM5 roms. "Not supported" doesn't mean it can't be done and work, it just means MS doesnt' want you to do it for either marketing or other reasons.

The ramdisk you are talking about is very different from the Windows CE object store used in WM2003 and many current non-PPC WinCE devices.
They don't even use the same filesystem! The ramdisk driver commonly circulated on these forums basically just formats/mounts a chunk of RAM as a FAT partition. It can't be resized and appears to the OS as any other flash card. You can even format it with StorageTools or whatever. The dynamic ramdisk or objectstore is built into the WinCE OS. It uses a proprietary filesystem optimized for RAM usage that is closely integrated into the kernel. As I understand it, It's more like a database than a filesystem like FAT. The registry, files and DBs are all stored in the same internal format and then abstracted by the OS and it's APIs. It couldn't even be disabled until more recent WinCE versions. Formatting Memory Card

I just got a 16gb class 2 memory card but it only shows that I only have 200mb. I've tried format the card but it isn't showing anything different. I've tried FAT and FAT32. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
It's probably a fake. Where did you get it?
I got it from ebay but when I first used it it was fine. Now I can't even see it show up on my computer.
Have you tried rebooting pc? If I do the safe to remove hardware , and then put my card back in it doesn't read....until I reboot.
Ok, I've tried rebooting pc and putting it back in it still doesn't recognize it. Weird thing is is I can put it in my Mac and it reads it fine.
That is weird. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Is it possible that I may have deleted the partition on the SD Card that needs to be there in order for it to work? when I go into recovery and try to flash zip from it it tells me that it cannot mount the sd card.

I had the same problem when I partition my card using recovery 1.5.2. I had a 8gb card but it only show 3gb when put it on my pc. I used http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ to fix it. Maybe it will help you.

I have had similar failures with generic memory cards (mine came from Hong Kong and were real looking fakes).
You may be able to repartition the card using a program called Paragon Manager in Windows (note sure if you can get this legitimately free).
Here is a great article from overclockers.com about spotting fakes and what to expect from them (click here):
Fake Memory Cards
From OCAU Wiki
Purpose
As fake memory cards have now proliferated throughout the marketplace, it is important to be able to spot a fake. This page includes methods to spot fakes, and examples of fake cards.
Why should you care?
Inferior quality card - you're not getting what you paid for
No warranty - when the card fails, you're out of luck
Fake cards sometimes have invalid partition sizes, making it likely to fail
It will drive costs of genuine cards up
Spotting a fake
A program called H2testw 1.4 has been written (thanks to German writer Herald Bögeholz and c’t Magazin für Computertechnik) which correctly analyzes and reports a flash drive's true size capacity; letting you know it is a fake.
If you don't believe that, read this article at http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/2...standard-in-detecting-usb-counterfeit-drives/
This make life a bit easier!
Presentation quality and differences
First thing to look for is poorly printed labels and material; most fake cards have slight differences from the real deal. Most manufacturers have a page where you can download high resolution pictures of their cards. Below is a list of manufacturer image page links:
Sandisk
Sony
Olympus
Example of fake 1GB Sandisk SD Card
(Click here for high resolution image)
This particular card was also missing a notch, making it quite easy to spot:
Put it in phone, boot into recovery , select partition, then change allocations to 0 for first two options, the it will format remainder to fat 32.

Why? I installed it on my storage card and it works great.
Cheers,
Arnold
Moved as not software release.
It's better to have it on main memory. You won't be able to use some of the memory card tools if it's on your sd card. You definitely can't format a card with it on the card, and I'm not sure if you can scan the card, either.
But similar programs such as Pocket Mechanic installed on the sd card is able to defragment the card ... So the support functions of the card on which they are installed.
You're still not going to able to format, though. It's also faster on main memory, or at least it should be. Just check the boot time in benchmarking.

[Q] playing movies from 64gb sd card

I have a Note 10.1 with a 32gb sd card. I put a bunch of mp4 movies on the card and can play them without any problems on my note 10.1. I started running low on space so I got a 64gb sd card. I copied some movies to the card and figured everything would play just like with the 32gb card. However, the movies won't play. They are on the card, the titles show up on my list, but the length of the movie shows as 00:00:00. I know the data is on the card Beca use when I look at what is taking up space on the memory card, the movies are a big chunk of it. Can anyone tell me how I can get them to play? I don't get what the difference is between playing from the 32gb card and the 64gb card.
Thanks, GL
Might just be a copy error, can you use a card reader and play the movies off your PC
Sent from my SM-T700 using XDA Free mobile app
It looks like your microSD is corrupted:
Unplug your microSD from your SGN 10.1
Insert it into a MS Windows PC
Press Win+R then type: chkdsk [your_card_drive_letter]: /x /f /r
Wait until it is finish checking
After finish & if it found some errors open Windows Explorer & in the Address Bar type: [your_card_drive_letter]:\FOUND.[3_digit_number]
Replace [3_digit_number] with (usually) 000 or increment it by 1 if there is no folder by that name.
Inspect the file(s) if there's an important file (look at the content, not the filename)
After everything is done you can try to repeat step 1 again to make sure.
Re-copy the movie you want to watch
Replace [your_card_drive_letter] with the appropriate letter of your microSD card.
Thanks, but I have a mac. I tried formatting the card to FAT32 with disc utility. That may have been what messed the card up. It's strange, because my tablet recognizes the card and shows that it's a 64gb card, other functions work normally as far as saving data to it, but it won't play the movies. I've also tried formatting the card with sdFormatter for mac. It goes through the whole process and says the card has been formatted, yet it ends up the same as before I started. There are still folders on it that should have been erased during the process, and when I load a movie on it and try playing it on the tablet still nothing. I have tried formatting the card in the tablet, but the same thing happens. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, GL

Never ever use FAT32 on 64GB & above storage (any storage)
Filesystem standard for storage nowadays is dominated by Microsoft, so you need Ms Windows to repair any errors without compromising any other data by formatting it (I hate this, but what can I say....).
Luckily, in Linux (Mac long lost sibling ) there's a tool called fsck & it can check & repair any MS filesystem (not recommended but handy if needed)
And also LUCKILY......Android=Linux.....
Back to point 1,AGAIN.....never EVER use FAT32 on 64GB & above storage.
The following limitations exist using the FAT32 file system with Windows operating systems:
Clusters cannot be 64 kilobytes (KB) or larger. If clusters were 64 KB or larger, some programs (such as Setup programs) might calculate disk space incorrectly.
A volume must contain at least 65,527 clusters to use the FAT32 file system. You cannot increase the cluster size on a volume using the FAT32 file system so that it ends up with less than 65,527 clusters.
The maximum possible number of clusters on a volume using the FAT32 file system is 268,435,445. With a maximum of 32 KB per cluster with space for the file allocation table (FAT), this equates to a maximum disk size of approximately 8 terabytes (TB).
The ScanDisk tool included with Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 is a 16-bit program. Such programs have a single memory block maximum allocation size of 16 MB less 64 KB. Therefore, The Windows 95 or Windows 98 ScanDisk tool cannot process volumes using the FAT32 file system that have a FAT larger than 16 MB less 64 KB in size. A FAT entry on a volume using the FAT32 file system uses 4 bytes, so ScanDisk cannot process the FAT on a volume using the FAT32 file system that defines more than 4,177,920 clusters (including the two reserved clusters). Including the FATs themselves, this works out, at the maximum of 32 KB per cluster, to a volume size of 127.53 gigabytes (GB).
You cannot decrease the cluster size on a volume using the FAT32 file system so that the FAT ends up larger than 16 MB less 64 KB in size.
You cannot format a volume larger than 32 GB in size using the FAT32 file system in Windows 2000. The Windows 2000 FastFAT driver can mount and support volumes larger than 32 GB that use the FAT32 file system (subject to the other limits), but you cannot create one using the Format tool. This behavior is by design. If you need to create a volume larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system instead.

It means that the maximum capacity that FAT32 supports is 32GB.
Normally, 64GB & above storage come with exFAT from the factory....until....you format it to FAT32.
In MS Windows, you can't format 64GB & above storage with FAT32 (even if you want to).
Unfortunately, Mac & Linux users can accidentally format it to FAT32.
How to covert it to exFAT without losing data?
In MS Windows: convert /FS:EXFAT
In Linux: gparted
As you use Mac, I don't know how to do that....BUT, I can recommend you to use any Linux LIVECD/DVD.
I'm using Linux Mint & in the LiveCD Gparted is included.
it's a partitioning application with GUI (of the command line tool called parted)
Try it & ask me if you have any question.
Ok, thanks. I was formatting to FAT32 because that's what I read on one of these forums was the way to be able to use a 64gb card with my tablet. I will try your suggestions when I get back into town next week and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help, hope this works

I don't know what ROM that you use but remember to UPDATE beforehand.
exFAT filesystem needs a kernel support & older Android kernel version doesn't support it.
Using custom kernel can guarantee kernel support for exFAT.
